(F4-PP) Restocking the Forge

Recommended Posts

Eatos let out a deep breath, and started to lock up her forge once again. It was what she always opted to do before she went out, close up the forge and ensure that all her materials and stock were safe and protected when she left her store alone. After all, she didn't want to lose anything. She double checked her equipment, weapon and armour, before closing the door and locked it behind her. Once again, she walked in the direction of Frostbite Lake, and with a pickaxe in hand, intended to get to work. It was her hunting group for materials, so to speak. Every time her stock ran low, she'd go there and gather what she needed, then return. It was rather simple, and more than anything, it just consumed her time. But, it had to be done, but she did have an advantage over other players. She'd invested 5SP into the abiliy, Gatherer, which meant that when she went out hunting, she'd reap a lot more.

It didn't take long for Eatos to find herself at Frostbite lake, as was typical of her. It was her favorite place within Sword Art Online, and she'd never deny herself that much. It was where she went to sing and to clarify her assistance. She draw the pickaxe out of her inventory, and went on the hunt. She had to find materials, at least 20 to make this trip worthwhile, although she did hope to hunt at least 30-40 before heading back. It would allow her to emerge a huge boom in smithing and, hopefully, push her up. Once she reached a higher Smithing Rank, she'd need to focus on levelling up to gain access to Tier 2 and Tier 3 materials and equipment. Of course, that was another problem for another day.

Todays problems, it seemed, started off well as she snagged 4 materials right off the bat. So far, so good. She grinned, it was a good start!

As the girl continued her hunt through the ice and cold wind that constructed her home floor, she thought about Tier 2 and Tier 3 items. It was obvious that that those were desired by players now, Tier 1, while relevant for most players, were less relevant for those operating on the front line. The real issue with that though was that she was simply too low of a level of construct any weapons of that quality.

She took a swing with a pickaxe, but it resulted in nothing. She let out a sigh as ice splattered around her from her failed swing, but that was how it went for her and there was nothing she could do about it. Eatos knew that her future was a slow one, first getting access to Tier 2, and then eventually, Tier 3 equipment. It was some time before she'd be the type of support player she wanted to be, her First Aid skill was only Rank 1, Battle Healing the same. She would be useful....She just wasn't there, yet.

It was simply a matter of time before she'd be able to help her guild in battle, assuming they wanted her help that is. She'd never be tank, nor relevant on what was called the front lines. It simply wasn't in her nature to place herself in such a risky position, so instead, she'd be in the 'backline', like she always was before. It was her style of combat. Of course, this required more skill points into her abilities before she did anything else. But when she had them, she'd be able to keep them alive!

She glanced through the snow, and threw herself into action, hacking at the ground with her pickaxe at what she thought was a patch of ores. Of course, it turned out to be the roots of a tree. The girl groaned at her failure, why did everything look like what she wanted through the snow! "Urgh, what luck...At least its not the 1st floor with that stupid dirt" she muttered, recalling a certain adventure on the first floor where stupid dirt was all she could find! She hoped this time wouldn't be anything like that, or she may lose herself to anger.

"I wonder what it would be like to fight on the frontlines..." The blacksmith muttered to herself as she continued her hunt through the frozen waste. She'd moved away from Frostbite lake slowly, going further away from the save zone. While on most floors she'd be worried about moving away solo, she'd yet to encounter a beast on the 4th floor that threatened, or even attacked her. While it may have been ignorant to assume it would remain this way, she could hope.

The front liners, strong players who worked their way through Sword Art Online. They were the best warriors and tanks currently available, and as a result, needed nothing more than the best equipment available to them. It made sense, they were fighting high level monsters and the floor bosses. Without the best equipment available, they'd get slaughtered. Players like Stryder, combat focused players. She knew that there was no room for a wanna-be support player like herself, they needed damage dealers, no someone who wouldn't inflict anything onto a boss and who was in constant risk of dying.

She shook her head, it was foolish to even consider it. She'd never be a front liner, and that was as simple as it got. She examined a bunch of rocks for any ores, but found it lacking, and moved on to try find more materials with which to craft items.

Despite the obvious notion that being on the front line simply wasn't' for her, she couldn't help but wonder about them. Those players who were willing to risk everything for a chance to allow everyone else back home. Was it that selfless, or were they selfish and wanted to get home, and fought with their life on the line to get what they wanted? It was a curious mystery to the girl, after all, she was too scared to die. If the options were to fight and have a 50/50 chance to escape or die, or to live out her life within Sword Art Online, she knew which option she'd take, the cowards way.

Deep within thought, the girl tripped over a small snow ledge and crashed into the soft snow. She dragged herself up and rummaged in the snow, but nothing. She sighed. Last time she'd come here, she'd had relatively good success, was it just not to be anymore? Without access to materials, she wouldn't be able to craft armour and weapons, without them, lower level players would be left with a less than effective way to fight, putting them at risk. She couldn't do that. While she was starting to level up 'First Aid', there had to be more she could do to help those players. But what?! What was there?!
