(PP-F1) Mourning in the Morning

Recommended Posts

Fae was still a little bit upset about what happened recently, so she decided to visit the monument of life to pay her respects, even if it wasn't much her fault. Fae had wandered around the Town of Beginnings for a while until she had finally found the giant monument. She walked into the large room where the big stone was and looked for a certain name. Sure enough, even though it had just happened recently, the name had already been crossed out.

The monument was a bit dusty where Trixe's now crossed out name was, so Fae wiped out off a bit of the dust. Fae sat down on the floor and stared at the monument, looking at all the other names as well. Just seeing Trixie's name crossed out had filled Fae with plenty of guilt. Fae still couldn't help but blame herself for it all, and a few tears came into Fae's eyes as usual. She wiped them away and took a long moment of silence over it all.

Domarus never bothered much with the monument.  It was only a list of those too weak to survive.  There were so many ways to be weak too, and Domarus knew most of the reasons as to why players in this game were dying.  Arrogance was one.  Players taking on more than they could handle, even in groups.  Even higher players begin to think their invincible and one day take a risk that was too fatal for them to survive.  Another common one was fear.  So many humans have died through either suicide because they couldn't handle the stress of the situation, or they got themselves killed because they tried to overcome their fear, left the confides of the town, and died in an attempt to run away from a monster.  Greed was also one to add to the list.  Whether it was taking on more and more monsters, or reaching for higher floors you're not guaranteed to survive, people wanted more and more.  Wrath was a very common one in this game as well.  Some players consumed by bloodlust, while others drawn into it, always starting with revenge but then delving into the pit.  All of them were imbeciles, weak, pathetic.  When Domarus saw the monument and the amount of names crossed out it made him sick to think he entered a game with these people.  However he was here to build up his reputation by 'paying his respects'.  He stood there, making it seem as if he genuinely cared that all these people had died, completely hiding the cold dead heart inside him.  He noticed a girl nearby crying and walked over, stopping a few feet away from her in case she wanted some space.  He reached over and placed a hand on her shoulder, his eyes revealing nothing but encouragement, despite his disgust for this place and it's weakness.

"Are you alright?  Did you lose someone?"

Fae felt someone's hand on her shoulder and she stopped crying as soon as she felt it. Fae turned around to see a red haired player asking her if she was okay. Fae nodded and wiped away her tears, but more just kept coming out. She couldn't control herself here at all. It was embarassing for her to cry in front of a stranger like this.

He had asked if Fae had lost someone, and slowly nodded. She wasn't sure how to word it, so she decided to just leave it at a simple yes. "Yes mister, Fae lost someone, that's why Fae is here obviously. Fae still feels a bit guilty after all that happened. Even though it doesn't make a difference, visiting here just makes Fae feel a little bit better." Fae answered, standing back up and looking up at the red haired player. She didn't quite get why he was here either, so Fae decided to ask. "Did you lose someone too mister?"

The obvious answer was yes, he didn't even have to ask if she lost someone.  Unless of course she was one of those people who cried over the deaths of individuals she had never known.  The latter was foolish as these individuals died because they weren't able to defend themselves, or stay alive in general.  Then of course she spoke and one thing that caught his interest was the fact that she spoke in third person.  The second was that the girl, her name apparently Fae, felt guilty about what had happened.  Well Domarus now knew her name, and since she didn't tell him outright, he had no reason to give out his.  Hopefully it would stay that way.  As for her guilt there were several forms of it.  There was guild of regret.  Guilt of nothing.  And survivors guild.  There was more but these were the most likely.  Guilt of regret would imply that she killed someone, or at least took part in it which he did not dismiss as this was SAO after all.  The guilt of nothing was translated as she did nothing to stop the event, which was also a possibility given the amount of individuals who let themselves be controlled by fear.  And then of course there was the survivor's guilt which was always a great possibility despite the absurdity of it.  She then asked him if he lost someone.  He shook his head.

"No actually.  I'm here to pay my respects to the fallen but I have yet to actually lose someone."  This and he had been searching all over creation for a player named Trixie.  He needed to jumpstart his guild but unfortunately there was absolutely no one interested in joining.  Well, save for Kotone and Hidden.  Domarus could use Keres actually, who was in his shop at the moment.  Perhaps that would be enough.
