      » Real name: Thomas Ryder
      » Age: Twenty-Six

      » Weight 190lbs

      • Description •
Standing tall at six feet two, and weighing in a 220 lbs, Vandal makes for an imposing physical specimen, with broad shoulders and a muscular build. He has the appearance of an athlete or soldier in his prime, who carefully maintains his physical health. With short and spikey dark hair, a scar across the bridge of his nose, and a serious brooding look on his face he can seem intimidating. Despite his perpetually serious mindset, Vandal is a good man, once you take the time to get to know him. His rather rough appearance and taciturn personality are just the surface, beneath them you will find an honest and loyal man who will gladly lay down his life for his comrades .

      • History •

      • An American Marine stationed in Camp Fuji, Vandal is of mixed American and Japanese descent. His father, Big Tom Ryder, married his Japanese mother after having met her during a tour overseas. As a child Vandal was exposed to Japanese culture and etiquette, and upon graduating and enlisting in the Marine Corps, Vandal found himself stationed the Camp Fuji American Military Base in Okinawa. Even with his knowledge of the Japanese language and culture, Vandal found himself surprised by the culture shock. Many Japanese looked on the American Military Presence as controversial, and interacting with the locals could prove tense as relations were easily strained. Never the less Vandal was fascinated with the chance to experience the culture first hand, his memories filled with the explanations and stories he had heard from his mother. When he heard of the world's first VRMMORPG being released, he saved for weeks to purchase the Nerve Gear Equipment and figured that he could enjoy the game as a means to forget his worries on base, and simply interact with others from behind an avatar. Being fluent in Japanese, he could safely blend in with the thousands of Japanese players without having to worry about being the social outsider. Or so he had hoped, unfortunately life has a tendency to go FUBAR at without a moment's notice.

        • Personality •

        • » Virtues:

[*:3oz9farw] Determined Marines are stubborn, it's in their nature before they ever put on the uniform. Vandal is the type of man who will never stop going, who refuses to acknowledge defeat, and will do his utmost to ignore the odds stacked against him. Whether it's storming a battlefield, enduring Boot Camp, or surviving a video game trying to kill him, Vandal simply doesn't know how to quit. If he is going to die, it's going to be on his terms, pushing forward.

[*:3oz9farw] Courageous As a member of one of the world's most highly trained military branches, Vandal has been combat trained. Even the dire situations of Sword Art Online and the amped up stakes of Win or Die, do little to dampen his spirits. Vandal sees the state of the 'Death Game' as little more than a different kind of battlefield, and as a Marine he has been trained to survive the battlefield. Whether it is a sword, or an assault rifle, in his hands makes little difference.

[*:3oz9farw] Patient Some might consider Marines to be ready to rush headlong into danger, they would be correct to assume such. However, a Marine knows when to rush and when to wait. Vandal has learned that patiently waiting for the right moment to unleash hell is the best way of dealing with most enemies. While he is fully ready to rush into the fray at a moment's notice, he has tempered these impulses with patience and makes for a very tactical fighter.

          » Flaws:

[*:3oz9farw] Serious Vandal approaches each challenge the game throws his way with the serious demeanor of a warrior tryig to survive a war. It is no longer a game, just another battlefield, and Vandal has been trained to survive on the battlefield. Surrounded by players much younger than himself, Vandal seems almost out of place at times with his serious and driven demeanor.

[*:3oz9farw] Bullheaded Try telling a Marine what to do and you will find a whole new meaning to stubborn. Vandal is utterly focused on one thing, and that is surviving the 'Death Game'. Quite simply, he is not going to let anything come between himself and survival, which means that while he makes for an excellent team player when coupled with those sharing his beliefs, he isn't one for screwing around.

[*:3oz9farw] Taciturn Vandal is for all intents and purposes an adult. And currently he is trapped in a game with several children, some of which are only half his age. While the stress of the situation would be enough to get on the nerves of anyone, the fact that the marauding children all around him seem intent on full out recreating their own version of 'The Lord of the Flies' makes the situation that much worse. At best that means Vandal has little patience, most of the time that just makes him a bit of a grouchy ass old man surrounded by teenagers.
