Emerath stepped out into the sun of the Second Floor. He would normally have had to shield his eyes from the sunrise, but the dark lenses of his mask took care of that for him. He breathed in the fresh air mixed with the potpourri of his mask, and savored the aroma. Mist flew above, scanning the area around her master as they walked, ensuring that no danger encroached upon them, despite the safety of the city. Emerath was fine with having his eyes in the sky, as it were. Emerath pulled up the screenshot he had taken of the quest board posting, describing a lost mother looking for her daughter, and hoped to find the area to begin said quest. All while waiting for his brother to show up so they could get this show on the road.

As desired, Emerath was garbed in his plague doctor outfit. Much to his delight, it seemed to breathe a bit more than he had expected in the sunny warmth of the Second Floor. Though he still dreaded the idea of places like Floor Five, which would be a sweltering nightmare for the man.

Endilix groaned as he shielded his eyes from the sun after stepping off the warp gate. He squinted at the light, as he headed to the place that Emerath told him to meet him on the Second Floor. He let out a loud yawn as he walked, the metal plates of his armor shifting and scraping against one another lightly as he stretched, before he placed his hands back at his sides as he walked, his blue shoulder cloak falling neatly back into place around his arm and hammers. With the revamped look, Endilix had taken to wearing both of his warhammers, just in case he needed to switch between the two. With Emerath in his party, it certainly made the paralyzing hammer more viable.

As Endilix managed to catch up to his brother, the obvious sore thumb sticking out in the middle of a bustling crowd, he grumbled and said, "Did we really have to go out and do this at the break of dawn? You know I'm not a morning person."

Emerath looked over to his brother, who had clearly not thought to at least do so much as straighten his hair out before heading towards their designated meeting spot. He rolled his eyes behind his mask as he said, "Look, if I hadn't dragged your sorry bum out of bed this early, goodness knows we never would get this, or anything, done at all." He took a moment to go back to surveying his surroundings, before grabbing his brother's arm and pointing over to a woman who was sobbing in the street. Some other people would come up and talk to her, before they walked away towards the town gates. "I'm pretty sure that's the quest giver. Let's go. You can wake up on the way."

And without any further conversation on the matter, Emerath was striding up to the sobbing woman. As she looked up to him, she looked taken back by Emerath's apperance, before she suddenly latched onto the lapels of his leather robes. "Please! You have to help me!" she shouted, as she seemed to have done with the other adventurers who had talked to her. "My daughter, she's lost. She was adventuring with some friends in a nearby cave, but they got separated in the dark and now... and now..." The woman broke off her sentence into hysterical wailing, as a quest prompt popped up in front of Emerath, who gladly accepted before saying, "Don't worry ma'am. We'll bring her back." The woman simply nodded, tears still welling up in her eyes as Emerath turned to Endilix and motioned for him to follow as Emerath walked for the town gates.

Endilix grumbled some more as Emerath led the way and forged a path towards the quest for them. "He's calling me a lazy bum... my own brother... that hurts..." Endilix mumbled as he followed along towards the town gate. He had no real need to interject during the quest dialogue. He had no real need to interject during any of this. Endilix was here to serve as a meat shield, and while he knew that, and accepted it, a part of him still felt depressed. "So there's nothing that I can really do until we do the fighty bits?" Endilix mourned to his brother as they walked, passing by the town gates and out into the wild mountains and valleys of the surrounding area. "You know, I expected this. But I have to tell you, you haven't gotten any more fun when it comes to teamwork or anything in the past few months."

Out of Combat Material Gathering

Spoiler

Roll ID: 89609
LD Roll: 20 + 4 = 24 [Success]
CD Roll: 1 [No Gatherer Bonus]

Result: Emerath Obtains 1 T1 Crafting Material

Emerath tried his best to shrug off his brother's jabs as they began to hike through the mountains towards their destination. "Look," he finally said, a bit exasperated, "It's not like I told you to shut up or anything. You didn't insert yourself into the conversation." Emerath huffed and scanned the ground as they walked, trying to use his practiced eye to find some crafting materials on the way to their destination. "If you want to participate, feel free to jump in next time. Though really that quest introduction didn't require your input. Would've made no sense," he continued, before spotting a nice juicy mushroom sprouting out of the ground near some shaded rocks. He walked over, and yanked it out of the ground before placing it in his inventory and heading back down the pathway.

"If it makes you feel any better, I'll let you start the quest next time, okay? And I don't mean that to be condescending. I'm trying not to be as bad as I used to be. So really, just let me know next time." Emerath said, before stopping in front of their destination. "And besides, we're here," he said simply, pointing at the cave mouth, "this is where you get to shine."

Endilix tried his best not to read too much into Emerath's words as they walked. Despite the muffled nature of his mask, Emerath's words seemed sincere enough. Besides, if he really wasn't into the whole teamwork thing, then he probably wouldn't have been working with Endilix again in the first place. Endilix remembered when they had first tried questing together. It resulted with Emerath commanding Endilix around and ultimately just being bossy. This wasn't as far away from that, but it was better. Endilix could accept that it at least seemed like Emerath was trying. As Emerath pointed to the mouth of the cave, Endilix cracked his neck and pulled his gaudy orange pumpkin shield from his back. "Alright then. Let's save a little girl," he said, as he stepped into the cave.

"But damn is it dark in here," Endilix said, not too far into the cave, as the darkness became thick and stifling. His eyes adjusted just enough that the trickles of light from the mouth of the cave were enough to make out basic shapes and such. "I almost wish you had meant it literally when you said it was my time to shine. That would be really helpful right about now," Endilix said with a chuckle, as he crunched rocks beneath his steel boot. It wasn't until he had stepped on a few twigs and kicked a rock across the cave that he heard a creature's deep, guttural growl.

"Well, that isn't a sound a child would normally make..." Endilix said as he whirled towards the source of the sound to see two crimson eyes staring at him in the darkness. He could make out the basic shape of what appeared to be a bat, before it suddenly flew at him, prompting Endilix to duck out of reflex. Endilix grunted, and tried to make out the shape of his brother in the darkness, "Emerath, combat. Get ready!"

Endilix watched the bat swoop around him, before shouting at the creature, "Get down here you little winged rat!" Its eyes flashed red as it seemed to recognize the insult, and dove headfirst for the armored man. The bat's swoop struck true, but Endilix had managed to get his shield up in time to stop the blow, as the pumpkin lid's thorns tore into the black creature's flesh, leaving red gashes as it shrieked and flew backwards. Its health dropped, but not quite into the yellow, as Endilix grunted and kept his shield at the ready, hoping that Emerath might be able to finish off the thing before it became a nuisance.

[Combat Has Ended]

Emerath had been following behind Endilix, straining to see in this accursed darkness. Everything looked the same, black and depressing. He kept an ear out for any sounds that might be made by a little girl, but really all Emerath could hear were the sounds of their footsteps echoing off the walls of the suffocating enclosure. It wasn't until Endilix had caught the attention of a bat and had snapped into combat that Emerath brought himself back to the present, rather than focusing on the droning sound of their own movements. Emerath couldn't see anything, and he knew Endilix was no better. But there was one thing that was clear in the darkness, and that was the bat's eyes. Emerath tried his best to focus on the creature's movements, but was finding it difficult as fast as it was moving.

It wasn't until the creature ran itself into Endilix's shield that he was able to get a good gauge of its location thanks to the sounds. Mist hooted, and flew off of Emerath's shoulder as Emerath took a fighting stance, and tried his best to focus on the point where he had heard the clash and then the following shrieks of pain. If only for a moment, he caught the creature's eyes in the darkness once again, and his fists glowed a crimson red as he dashed forward. He managed to catch the thing by the wing and tore it into the ground, before kicking it and giving it a solid punch for good measure. It shrieked again, and Emerath punched it one more time to get it to stop, as he watched its remaining health drain away from its HP bar. The eyes dimmed, before the creature exploded into a million pixels in his grip, and he huffed as he looked back to Endilix as best he could in the darkness. "Well, that could've gone worse."

Out of Combat Regeneration

Spoiler

Endilix Regains 1 HP [340/340]
Endilix Regains 1 EN [25/32] [1 of 3 OOC Turns]

Endilix squinted against the darkness as he watched Emerath catch the bat mid air and pummel the creature. It had happened so fast, and Endilix realized that it had been a really long time since he had seen his brother fight. His eyes nearly bugged out at how strong his brother seemed to have become, despite only being a level higher than him. As Emerath turned back to him, Endilix smiled, though he wasn't sure how visible that would actually be in the near pitch blackness of the cave.

Endilix made his way over to his brother, and offered to help him to his feet before saying, "Could've gone a lot worse. You've certainly got more power behind those punches now. It's good to see you doing so well in combat." After helping him up, he gave Emerath a clap on the back and said, "Now let's go, before this bat's friends show up. I know this is a starter quest, but I still don't want to be here any longer than we need to."

Out of Combat Regeneration

Spoiler

Emerath Regains 1 EN [31/34] [1 of 3 OOC Turns]

Emerath was still breathing a bit heavily as Endilix pulled him back to his feet, and a part of him felt a bit of pride at his brother's praise. Though he still bristled a bit at the idea that Endilix was praising him, just out of sheer sibling rivalry, it felt good to be appreciated for the first time in a long while. He gave Endilix a return smile in the darkness, only barely able to see his brother's own smile on his face. But as Endilix turned to continue into the cave, Emerath couldn't help but feel a bit of a pang for how Endilix was acting. He hadn't realized how much events in this game had hardened him. The fact that Emerath had been acting more aloof than Endilix lately hadn't been lost on him.

Trying his best to shake off the depressing thought that Emerath was slowly losing the fun loving brother he grew up with, he said, "Endilix, hold on. Mist can see in the darkness. Maybe we should have her fly out in front and hoot at us if she sees anything."

Endilix paused as Emerath spoke, and realized that his brother had a point. Stumbling around in the dark would only get them so far, especially if this cave started going in circles. Endilix nodded and took a step back to allow for Emerath to send Mist out. "Okay," he said, before thinking about the quest as a whole, "you know, we haven't even seen evidence that the girl is in this cave. I know she is, because this is a premade quest by the game, but say we find her. How do we find our way back out again?" Endilix sighed and this was about the time that he started to wish that they had brought a torch or something. "We should start carrying a light from now on. I hadn't considered how much of a mess wandering around in a dark cave would be." Endilix started walking through the cave again with another sigh.
