Trusty_Patches 0 Posted January 6, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 6, 2018 (edited) The center of the Town of Beginnings was busy as usual. Businesses were packed with players and NPCs alike. It was a regular day, well as regular as you can get in a deathgame that is. One player in particular was resting on a bench, sunlight grinding off of his bald head. This player was known as Trusty_Patches, Just Patches to people he worked with. At this very moment he was deep in thought. To be frank, he was bored out of his mind. There hasn't been any reason to wander about, given the fact that he had explored most of the city. He hummed to himself, perhaps it was time to head back out into the wilds to see what could find? He nodded to himself. A little trip was in order. Just as he about to stand up, his attention was drawn by someone yelling. To be more precise, yelling at him. "I finally found you!" The rather irate player yelled, drawing the attention of a sizable group of players. Patches gulped to himself, and quietly took a deep breath as he stood up. He was afraid this would happen. Putting the most kind face he could manage he faced the player as they stomped up. "Yes, can I help y-" He was cut off by a hand grasping him by the collar of his shirt. "Help?! You tricked me!" The player yelled. "I'm sorry?" Patches feigned surprise. "You nearly got me killed!" The player continued to scream. Patches had been telling another player about a small cave system he had come across when the currently irate player had overheard. The player had come over and asked to know where the cave was. Patches being the friendly man he was kindly pointed out it's location, for a nominal fee of course. He might've refrained from mentioning that the cave was occupied. That had been some time ago, roughly a few hours ago. Patches internally winced, he wasn't quite sure on how to get out of this one. "It seems you've gotten confused about this." He began. "I didn't put you through anything, I just gave you the location of a cave." He said. "You didn't mention the fact that it was full of monsters, I wasn't even ready for something like that!" "Well, that's not my fault now is it?" Patches said. He was getting tired of getting yelled at. Edited January 6, 2018 by Trusty_Patches
Outlander 0 Posted January 6, 2018 #2 Share Posted January 6, 2018 "The town of new beginnings," Outlander whispered "how overrated." He smiled "Just a few more blocks and I'll get the payment I need." He says as he is trying to avoid getting in the way of other peoples ways." Unsure of its location he opened his menu a second time, "Thats, a lot further then I expected. Hmm, I'll cut through the center, figure the sooner I get paid, the better." Outlander looked down the street at all the restaurants, shops, inns, and just plain buildings. On his way down the center, he passed a blacksmithing shop, looking in the store window, he saw a costly blade he'd been dying to get his hands on. "Maybe soon, you'll be mine..." he said in awe of the powerful broadsword. He continued down the street to the center of town. Once, he got there he notice quite the disturbance. A man was literally threating to rip someones spine out, assuming that it was the man he was grabing by the collar. Outlander stepped out of the observers of which were yelling fight over and over agian. And said: "Look, I love a good kitten fight as much as the next guy, but is this really necessary?" Outlander smirked and put up his face mask.
Trusty_Patches 0 Posted January 6, 2018 Author #3 Share Posted January 6, 2018 (edited) Patches looked towards the new voice, and the crowd that had evidently surrounded him and the angry player. He signed internally, this was just great. The crowd was chanting fight over and over again. "Exscuse me for a second." He said to the angry one. He then turned his head to the stranger. "Fight? Oh no this isn't a fight. Just a.... misunderstanding." He gestured to himself and the one grabbing his collar. He frowned as the players grip grew tighter. He then turned back to the angry one. "Do you mind letting go?" He said as politely as possible. He was getting somewhat agitated the longer this went on. The armor he wore was somewhat uncomfortable as it was, it grew even more so when someone was grabbing him by the collar of the tunic he wore. He added finding something new to wear to his mental checklist. His current set looked like it was roughly put together from bits of metal and leather, which it was. Outlander 0 Posted January 6, 2018 #4 Share Posted January 6, 2018 (edited) The stranger that asked the question certainly looked like he has had better days. With a rugged tunic covered in random straps of leather most of which was dirty. "I'm pretty sure I got were your coming from, I've had plenty of "misunderstandings" before, one of the put a friend of mine in a coma for three days on a poison that was supposed to make someone suicidal." Outlander looked blankly at the man. "Don't ask." He continued "Oh, where are my manners, I'm Outlander, the last Outcast and Professional Mercanary." Outlander looked behind the stranger at the enraged man, "You did this?" "No, no, no, its all a simple mi-" The stranger was interupted "Lemme handle this... " Outlander said "...after all, this is probably the most passive thing im going to do this week." Outlander starred at the enraged man. Trusty_Patches 0 Posted January 6, 2018 Author #5 Share Posted January 6, 2018 Patches watched as the man approached and internally shrugged. If he wanted to help he's let the stranger help. The last Outcast, huh? Patches knew a little bit of who they were. A band of mercenaries. He'd never met one in person before, at least until now. "No, truly. I have this handled." He muttered to himself. He knew better than to try to dissuade the stranger from helping. It never worked.
Outlander 0 Posted January 6, 2018 #6 Share Posted January 6, 2018 "Alright," Outlander said drawing his longsword "let him go." The enraged man's eyes widened. "You wouldn't." Outlander looked at the man directly in the eyes. "Well then, you clearly don't know who I am." He looked at the Stranger the man was holding. "What did he do to you?" "He lied to me! I could have died!" Outlander looked disappointed "Is that it? He 'lied' to you? Oh boy, if I were get threatened like this everytime I lied to someone I'd be having quiet the dramatic life." Outlander snickered The man dropped the stranger and yelled this as he pulled out a curved sword: "You will regret that!" "Are we really doing this?" "Now, you'll pay!" The man ran at Outlander whom responded by steping out of the path of the sword and grabbing the mans throat. Outlander lifted the man up untill he could no longer touch the floor. Outlander smiled, "F****** Amateur..." Outlander dropped the man who responded by coughing and gaging. "There, problem solved."
Trusty_Patches 0 Posted January 6, 2018 Author #7 Share Posted January 6, 2018 (edited) Patches dusted off his shirt, and nodded to the stranger, or rather 'Outlander'. Strange name, but who was he to judge? "I appreciate the assistance." He said as he adjusted the straps of leather across his chest. They had gotten a little loose from the brief scuffle. "Names Patches, by the way." He said as walked up to Outlamder and held his hand out for a handshake. Internally Patches measured up Outlander. His armor drew Patches eye chiefly. It looked sturdy and well made. Maybe served a uniform for the, what had he called it, the Outcasts? It certainly made Patches own armor look rather piecemeal in comparison. The second thing he noticed was that the other player was rather short. As in a good deal smaller than Patches. Although he was relatively small he appeared to be very, very strong. If the fact that he bodily lifted the other player with one hand. All in all, Patches decided it was a decidedly bad idea to get on Outlander's bad side. For now at least. Outlander 0 Posted January 6, 2018 #8 Share Posted January 6, 2018 Outlander accepted the handshake. "I was actually on my way to help someone out, yeah know, being a merc." Patches nodded in acknowledgement. "I was told I was going to rescue someone from so dungeon. And I could use some assistance. Yeah, know, cannon fodder." Outlander chuckled "Anyway, I can see life hasn't been treating you well." "Yep" Patches responded "But I wasn't kidding about that offer, if you do want to join, I have a House a little north of Horunka. Meet me there. Got it?"
Trusty_Patches 0 Posted January 6, 2018 Author #9 Share Posted January 6, 2018 (edited) "Cannon fodder eh?" Patches chuckled as he asked. Eh, he had been called worse before. That one bandit had been surprisingly creative. Too bad words couldn't shield you from a spear in the ribs. "Eh sure, why not. Haven't got anything to do at the moment." Patches agreed. He did need some money after all. Not that he wasn't somewhat well off, he just wanted more of it. Money, or rather Col as it was called now, did make the giant deathtrap of a castle go round after all. He quietly opened up inventory and winced, his spear was still somewhat damaged from that last group of monsters. They had been rather insistent on separating his head from his shoulders, which Patches really didn't appreciate. Edited January 6, 2018 by Trusty_Patches
Outlander 0 Posted January 6, 2018 #10 Share Posted January 6, 2018 (edited) "I'll message you the location on your menu." Outlander said looking around at the scenery, "Its a rescue mission. I don't know the target. I'm getting that information, now." He said pointing at a blacksmithing shop down the street, "In there is the man I need to talk to, in the meantime, make it to Horunka. So, see you in a few days." "Bye" said Patches. "See you there" Outlander continued to walk down the street to the blacksmithing shop, and began to notice the lack of people. "This section of town is awfully quiet." He said, "I wonder why." Walking into the blacksmithing shop, he man wearing a soot stained white tunic with a black smithing apron, he also was wearing brown pants with leather knee pads. "So, how can I help you?" Outlander stated. The smith turned around, he was suprised, and didn't hear him walk in. " Your the Outlander, right? The last Outcast?" Outlander smiled. "Guilty as charged." "I have a job for you..." Edited January 6, 2018 by Outlander
Trusty_Patches 0 Posted January 6, 2018 Author #11 Share Posted January 6, 2018 (edited) Patches watched as Outlander walked away. Off on some business, which was rather interesting, but none of Patches business. Patches turned back to the formerly angry player and nudged him with his boot. All he got in return was a gurgle. Shrugging to himself he sidestepped the player and began walking to a more secluded area. He had some business to attend to before leaving the Town. As he walked he began to think. He had heard of the name Outlander before, but he couldn't quite place it. The Outcasts he definitely was familiar with, a band of mercenaries, having a few run in with the group. Last he had heard the group was wiped out entirely. Patches continued to the item shop to stock up on supplies, even if the food tasted like burnt wood half of the time.
