Pinball 1 Posted January 20, 2018 Author #41 Share Posted January 20, 2018 (edited) Pinball nodded. The sooner they got this done, the better. If Benjamin decided he wanted to keep going, Pinball wouldn't argue against it. Especially since he had enough energy for a few more good hits. "Alright then," Pinball smiled, leaning against his spear a bit, "let's get to it." Pinball rushed at the Nepent Variant, the spear in his hands glowing brightly with the activation of a Sword Art. Pinball jabbed the creature, landing a solid hit against its chest. It knocked out a good chunk of its health, but unfortunately, none of his affects were activated. And so the Nepent Variant, in response, struck Pinball across the shoulder with a thin, vine-like tendril. It barely took a notch out of Pinball's HP, and truth be told, the boy was certain there was no way a monster of this calibur would be able to defeat him. He jumped back besides Benjamin. "Your turn! Benjamin Bookworm 0 Posted January 20, 2018 #42 Share Posted January 20, 2018 Ben charged at the Nepent variant as well, focused on at least weakening it enough that the next hit would do it in. Here I come! he shouted as he charged, his blades connecting first with the top, then the bottom halves of the enemy. Even with the speed he struck with though, he only made a few superficial cuts onto it, leaving the Nepent mostly unharmed. Dang it... he said as he skidded back from the last few blows I barely scratched it! Do you think that you can take what's left of it in one hit? That stupid thing is just way too tough for me to hurt very well. Ben caught his breath while the Nepent gathered itself from the repeated attacks, readying for another round. Next big quest I go on I'll definitely bring some damage potions to try and even the score.... this is ridiculous. Stupid Nepents. Spoiler ~Combat~ ID# 94446 BD: 8 + 1 acc (Hit!) Pinball 1 Posted January 20, 2018 Author #43 Share Posted January 20, 2018 (edited) Pinball took a step forward, levelling his shield for another charge. "One Sword Art, coming right up!" Pinball charged the Nepent Variant once more, his spear taking on the same bright glow... and he tripped. Pinball stumbled and nearly fell flat, but he managed to recover by slamming the end of his spear in the dirt, pushing himself off the ground. He was on his knees now, his spear the only thing having saved him from completely losing his balance. For a moment, he struggled to process what had just happened. "Jesus," he mumbled, just in time to see the Variant reering back for an attack. "Jesus!" Pinball pushed himself backwards, and the Nepent flinched. "Damn it," he said, marching back to Benjamin, his face bright red. One Sword Art coming right up... Yeah the hell right. "Sorry," he murmured, refusing to make eye contact with the other player. The Nepent Variant stood its ground, and Pinball had the odd, albeit aggravating feeling that the monster would laugh if it was capable. Combat: Spoiler ~Combat~ ID# 94447 BD: 2 (Miss!) Benjamin Bookworm 0 Posted January 20, 2018 #44 Share Posted January 20, 2018 Ben charged up his own weapons, readying another sword art for attack. All right, well let's see if we can't whittle this thing's health down! This time he aimed for the Nepent's dead center, trying to finish it off with some critical damage. His aim was true, and he struck the Nepent right in it's center before bringing his second blade around to smash it for more damage. The monster staggered back, reeling for a second before it's health reached zero and it faded away. He quickly checked around to see if they finally got the item they were looking for- Not here... no... Aw man, I finally kill a big one and we get nothing. Pinball 1 Posted January 20, 2018 Author #45 Share Posted January 20, 2018 "Damn," Pinball stomped when Benjamin told him they had gotten nothing. He then shrugged. "Well, I'm nearly out of energy. We should rest a bit before moving on, and then rush through it like we did this last group." Pinball took a seat by a tree, using the trunk for support. "I know it sucks, and it's gonna be boring. But - the longer we're here, the more experienced we get." Pinball mimicking a wise old man, wheezed, "and experience - that's the most valuable thing of all." He laughed, and got comfortable. "Plus," he added, "once we finish, we never have to fight nepents again." They would need to rest a while, if they were to get back into the fight effectively. He didn't want to take a risk by rushing into another fight, only to end up having Benjamin getting hurt. Being the higher levelled player, Pinball felt it was his responsibility to keep his party member safe. "Well, you got any interesting conversation topics?" Benjamin Bookworm 0 Posted January 20, 2018 #46 Share Posted January 20, 2018 Huh... Ben thought, trying to come up with a topic. He propped himself up by his elbows to make himself more comfortable as he did so. I've mostly been thinking about how to get my shop going. I haven't really had luck selling anything yet- do you know what kinds of consumables players usually are looking for? You know, just so I can get some col from sales. I'm hoping to start buying some new items, and that would really help. I'm hoping to eventually get my own place with a workshop, maybe even join a crafting guild too... How about you? Do you have something you're saving up for, or trying to find? he said with a smile. He liked listening to other player's goals and what was going on with them. He was pretty bad a figuring things like that out himself, so preferred the direct approach of just asking.
Pinball 1 Posted January 20, 2018 Author #47 Share Posted January 20, 2018 Pinball shrugged. "I've never heard of any crafting guild before. In my guild, we just have our members fill in the roles of our crafters... though the only active ones are Hei and I." He took a minute to think. "You said you were going to be an alchemist? I don't know much about what they do, but potions seem very handy. Health potions are always nice, though, then again, they're the only ones I know about." Pinball made a mental note to pay a visit to Benjamin's shop once he made some money. He was going to need the potions for questing, if he wanted to keep up with Mars. "I'm... I'm not really saving up for anything. I don't have that big of a goal, really. The only thing I've planned ahead is challenging this other guy to a duel." Pinball laughed. "In fact, that's most of the reason I'm doing this quest now. Besides the fact that the compleshionist in me won't let me rest until I pass through all the quests on this floor before moving on too much." Benjamin Bookworm 0 Posted January 20, 2018 #48 Share Posted January 20, 2018 Well, I haven't heard of any guilds focusing on crafting either- which is a shame, since I've seen some of the buffs you can get if you do. I am hoping one of the newer guilds might go that way... or I could start my own one day. It would be a bit silly to start a guild and get a guild house set up just for the buffs though. Ben thought, still a bit sad that there weren't more support players. I suppose I'm with you on getting these beginner quests done- having more so will allow me to get skills that support my crafting. Plus I can finally get to explore some of the more dangerous floors. he paused So... do you mind if I ask you who your training to duel? Is it someone you had a fight with? Ben hoped he hadn't overstepped any lines by asking, but he was genuinely curious. EN recovery- 2/
Pinball 1 Posted January 20, 2018 Author #49 Share Posted January 20, 2018 (edited) Pinball listened to Benjamin, nodding as he did. Ben seemed dedicated to being a support player; something Pinball respected, by all means. In all of his time in Aincrad (so far), he had only heard about two support players. Had only seen one with his own eyes. "We have a support in our guild, too. She's the guild's blacksmith - Eatos. I haven't talked to her much, but she seems really professional about stuff." Pinball chuckled when asked about his duel. "Nah, we didn't get into a fight. Though it came close, if I'm being honest. We're on pretty friendly terms right now, though. We've got a bit of an arrangement going on. Once we both reach Level 20, we're gonna duel. Just a friendly competition to see who's stronger." He didn't mention how uncomfrotable he was with admitting someone else was stronger than him, of course. It was something Pinball didn't like when meeting people when they were relatively close in terms of power. But, it was, in all honesty, something that couldn't be helped sometimes. Benjamin Bookworm 0 Posted January 21, 2018 #50 Share Posted January 21, 2018 Interesting. I guess that make him a rival of yours then? Ben said as he got up and brushed the dirt and leaves off himself. That sounds like an interesting fight that you two are going to be having. Hope it turns out well for you. Bow though, I think my energy bar has finished recovering. If yours is as well, I think we can start on the next groups. I figure we can take both the minions and the boss in one go again if we push it, and probably save us a bit of time. He pulled his daggers out again and swept them back and forth, warming up his arms as he warmed himself up for the fight ahead. Hopefully it just takes one more boss to get the drop we need.... this has been taking a lot more tries than I had hoped it would to finish the quest off. Pinball 1 Posted January 21, 2018 Author #51 Share Posted January 21, 2018 (edited) Pinball rushed in, activating his Sword Art... to little effect. He hit and killed one of the nepents, but in doing so, he was left vulnerable. And so, two of the Nepents managed to hit him. It wasn't very damaging, mind you, but it did annoy Pinball. What use was an AOE if it only hit one enemy? Pinball jumped back, twirling his spear. "Damn," he muttered, looking to Benjamin. "I'll try again in a second. Looks like I'm a bit out of practice." It was the first time he was using this spear in actual combat. It made Pinball worry. He was going to need something that helped his accuracy, it would seem. He put that on his To-Do List, which was ever expanding. "See if you can take one out, I guess. Benjamin Bookworm 0 Posted January 21, 2018 #52 Share Posted January 21, 2018 Ben came in behind Pinball, running at the Nepents for another swipe. Don't worry, the next boss will drop it for sure! We got it this time. He swept in at the lead Nepent, aiming for another head shot on this one. That is, until he tripped over one of the overturned roots in the area, sprawling out flat a good ten yards from any of the enemies. He barely kept a grip on his weapons as he landed, luckily not taking any damage from the falls. Ow... I'm OK. Let's maybe try that again. But differently this time. he joked as he scrambled to his feet. At least the Nepents didn't even notice his fall or taken the opportunity to hit him while he was down. Pinball 1 Posted January 21, 2018 Author #53 Share Posted January 21, 2018 (edited) Pinball immediately followed up with the same AOE he had used just before. It was his job to take out as many as possible so that Benjamin was able to pick them off. However, just like last time, he only hit one of the Nepents. This time, he was able to rush back before any of the remainin nepents managed to get a hit on him. "I'm gonna cool it with the AOE," he called to Benjamin, readying his spear for another attack, "If you miss, I'll use another. If not, we'll just pick them off individually." Pinball wanted to get this quest finished as quickly as possible, so he had to conserve some modicum of energy for the fight with the Variant. Pinball prayed that this upcoming fight with the Variant would be their last. He was beginning to hate this quest just a bit more than he already did. Benjamin Bookworm 0 Posted January 22, 2018 #54 Share Posted January 22, 2018 Ben nodded at Pinball's plan, since they would need to conserve some energy for the later battles, especially with the kind of luck they were having now. He then readied his follow up attack, dipping and dodging once again at the first Nepent. He spun about and stabbed his dagger at the enemy, but the Nepent threw one of its vines in the way disrupting his strike. He swung a few times to keep the vines from knocking him over as he backed away, trying to keep himself from getting hit again. Dang it, stupid Nepent! These things are way too wiggly! Pinball, your call on this... I can't seem to hit any of these things right now! he shouted as he pulled himself back for another run. Pinball ran forward, activating Hellish Twice, and eliminating both of the Nepents in a single hit each. "Phew," he sighed, leaning against a tree. He had rushed in and executed the move way faster than he was used to. Good thing exhaustion wasn't a thing in the game. Pinball stood straight, leaning on his spear. Pinball prayed they would be able to finish up this quest soon. True, it was a low drop chance, but they had been here for what seemed like forever. Pinball started walking. "Come on, let's go get this Variant." Pinball walked deeper into the forest, where he knew he would find the Nepent Variant. "Let's pray that this thing gives us our item." He really didn't want to be here any more than the next guy. He hadn't realized just how monotonous this quest really was... if he had known it was going to be this bad, he wouldn't have taken it with Benjamin. Pinball 1 Posted January 23, 2018 Author #57 Share Posted January 23, 2018 (edited) Pinball nodded. It was time to finish this fight. "Let's do this!" Pinball took a single step forward, then broke into a walk that eventually made it into a full on sprint. Or, it would have, had he seen the tree root. His boot snagged against the stray piece of wood, and Pinball fell face first into the dirt, his spear clattering against the ground. He lay there a while, the only sound coming from the boy being a low groan. "Oww," he whined, picking himself up. There wasn't truly pain in this game, at least not like there was in the real world, but the game still simulated it to the best of their ability. And the feeling when he had hit the ground had been real enough to shock him. "I'll... I didn't... I'll get it in a second," he complained, shuffling over to pick up his spear. Luckily for Benjamin, the Variant made no attempt to attack him. It was probably amused by the failure. Pinball picked up his spear, and made his way back to the fight. Benjamin now held the creature's attention, and the Variant leaned back for an attack. Pinball rushed forward, his spear pointed forwards, but he was too late. A small, whiplike vine lashed out at Benjamin, chipping off a piece of his damage. "Damn it!" Pinball needed to land his next hit; Benjamin wouldn't be able to take too many hits like that. His missing was becoming a problem. He had to hit it. "Don't worry - I'm coming," he sighed, a death grip on the haft of his weapon. It was now or never. Pinball distanced himself from the Variant, giving himself enough room to rush at it when he saw the oppurtunity. "Try to focus on conserving energy, now. I'll try to take it out, but if I can't... I'm OK... sorry I can't hurt him much more right now... he panted as he did. His energy bar started to trickle back up, filling enough for another attack or two next time he got a chance. Pinball had still been trying to land a blow against the creature, but these last few groups they had been running into were slippery- we had both been having a lot of trouble landing even the occasional blow. He readied his daggers for another run next time- he still would need a lucky shot to really start to do damage, but he could still fight. He didn't want to go through the whole quest without doing some damage to this boss, and wanted to prove he was a bit tougher than he looked.
