The Curse of being Jinxed

In a world filled with competitive games, it’s expected that new names would appear. After all, the scene would be always developing and no pro was safe from the hungry jaws of those waiting to replace them. However, no one in the professional FPS scene was prepared for the wave that crashed into them.

At first, it was seemed ‘bad luck’ at they lost. The name was spotted in high-ranked play ‘Jinx’, and ‘Get Jinxed’. The name had appeared overnight, and reached high rankings in several FPS games. At first, it was deemed this player was simply lucky despite their impressive winrate, and that they would fade away. This turns out to be far from the case. As in the first online tournament they participated in, Jinx came first in the 1v1 tournament by a wide margain. Finally, the question was asked: Was this Jinx more than just a fluke? And who was behind the controller?

After a year of dominate performances, Jinx was invited to a live broadcast event to participate in the 1v1 tournament with a hundred-thousand dollar prize pool. It came to the surprise of many as Jinx revealed herself to the world. 16 year old Larissa Lagoon, a name that nobody knew appeared. In an event against some of the top names, this one girl stood out like a sore thumb and everyone expected her luck to end.  Being the only girl in the event, some accused her of cheating online. In this event, she came first. That established her legacy. Whenever Jinx arrived, all those who faced her were ‘cursed’ with bad luck.

What is most impressive in Jinx’s career in FPS games is that she doesn’t limit herself to a single game, branching out to several popular titles and claiming above average results in many events she plays in. She’s credited for above-average reaction speed and unique, if risky, decision making. Like her, love her or hate her. In the scene of FPS games, Jinx is a gal you gotta live in fear.

 

Upon entering Sword Art Online, the girl joined forces with several other players who she knew from the real world. However, unaware of the penalty of death, they pushed their luck and all of them died before her eyes. It was then she learned that this was a death game, and the grief consumed her. For months, the girl couldn't comprehend the world she was in. Denial ate at her, refusing to accept her friends were dead. These months dragged on, until she met a player who picked her up, got her back on her feet. Give her a reason to fight, gave her something she could grasp onto to survive. 

 

Personal History:

Larissa Lagoon was raised in a family with one elder brother and two younger. With this upbringing, she was introduced to video games at a young age and it became a friendly family competition between her and her brothers about who was the best. At first, she disliked the violent nature of the games and refused to play. But after a few days, she caved and played the FPS games as a family. She soon discovered how to win, she didn’t have to outshoot her brothers, she could outthink them. By knowing their moves, she would plan around their actions.

As she grew older, her success rocketed as her quick reactions and intelligent thinking allowed her to reach high ranks in competitive shooters. She figured why not, and started looking at the option to go professional. It turned out that a female professional was rare, and upon her first big event. She became famous, or infamous, depending on whose opinion you asked. Some saw her as using the fact she was a girl as her ‘selling’ point, while others pointed out her wins was her skill, not her gender. She put up thick skin, and went pro.

Strengths

Intelligent: Behind her crimson eyes is a very intelligent brain. Able to absorb and assimilate information very quickly, Jinx typically does this to work out an opponents play-style and find the way to beat them within the match itself. This intelligence does result in overthinking a situation from time to time, however.

Quick-Thinking: Along with absorbing the information, in the pro scene, you’ve got to be quick witted and even quicker on the draw. Her reaction speed upon spotting something is near perfect, and her brain is always reacting to what is around it.

Humble: Some, upon reaching the pro scene, would act as if they deserved to be there. For Jinx, it was never about being the best, but having fun. She tries to spend time with her fans, at least the ones that aren’t’ creepy, and offers help when she can.

Flaws:

Lacking a Filter: Despite her humbleness, there is a limit to her patience. In times of annoyance, her filter disables and she’ll say what lies deep in her head. Often times, it is very critical, but for those who want to learn. She’s the best, and aggressive, teacher.

Flirt: In part, she can’t not flirt with the cute guys who adore her. She loves the attention and can’t keep the comments within. She’ll avoid too flirty or direct comments, but winks, sticking her tongue out and slightly revealing clothes are all fair game.

Fidget: In part with her active brain is the desire to be active. Typically this results in her hands always doing something. Playing with her hair, flicing something or touching buttons she just shouldn’t, she can’t stop herself.
