[SP-F6] Finding Myself, Part 1: The Waterfall, and the Familiar Encounters

Recommended Posts

Vigilon glanced over to see that Auranika and Ind0minus had finished off the monsters they were facing, and that Azrea's next attack missed. He looked to his fellow party members in their fight, and saw that although Renixx had some trouble, and had a stumbling fall into the stream, Kaldui was able to take out the monsters with a well delivered AoE attack that struck all but one. The last Giant Silver Salamander in that fight stepped back, regretting it's decision to jump into the battle. Kaldui pounded her fists together, glaring at the monster. "Three down... YOU'RE NEXT!!" The Giant Silver Salamander must have wished it could move faster, but that thought lasted as long as it did, for Kaldui's next attack sent him flying to a tree, and shattering upon the impact. Vigilon looked back over to his own opponent, wishing he could have had the damage output to finish this already. Both Vigilon and the Giant Silver Salamander he was facing rushed for each other, and missed one another by an inch.

Vigilon was getting tired of this little miss streak. He needed to get a hit sooner or later. The Giant Silver Salamander wasn't even in the water yet. However, if Vigilon didn't act fast, it would most likely jump in and get some sort of advantage in this fight. The Giant Silver Salamander looked like it was about to make a vicious lunge. Vigilon readied his Sword Art, Delayed Sword, and with a paralyzing strike that also inflicted bleed, he stopped the monster in it's tracks. "Oh, no. Not this time." Since the mob was paralyzed, Vigilon had a chance to look and see how one of the other fights was going, for there was no fear of getting struck...yet. He saw that Azrea was able to finish off the Giant Silver Salamanders she was fighting against. All of the monsters had been finished off...all but one. "...Are you seriously still struggling against that little runt?"

"Easy for you to say when you don't have a weaker skill to slow you down!" Vigilon was tired of being the weakling. He had been needing to get stronger, but he just didn't have what he needed to accomplish that. He looked back to the monster he was facing, which had just gotten over it's paralysis. "Alright, let's get this over with."  He attacked with the Sword Art known as Delayed Sword, knocking the Giant Silver Salamander over towards a tree. It wouldn't be getting to the water at this rate, and maybe Vigilon could actually be able to "get this over with". He saw that his attack had also dropped the monster's HP to the yellow. "Oh, finally." The other players decided to not jump in, and see how Vigilon fared in the rest of his fight. The Giant Silver Salamander glared at Vigilon, and it appeared that it was ticked off at how the tides were turned.

"All I need is one more good hit...then this fight will be over soon!" Vigilon wondered if he could just keep going the way he was. Obviously, that didn't seem to work. The Giant Silver Salamander turned around, and Vigilon's attempt to attack failed by stepping and slipping on that tail. "Agh! Dang it!" Auranika seemed really disappointed in Vigilon's battle capabilities. "Luck seems to be either fickle towards you, or against you. I honestly can't tell anymore. You'll need more power to you attacks if you're ever going to have a way to make up for it." Vigilon sighed, and Veriost returned to his shoulder. Her expression showed that she was waiting for a battle combo command, rather than just breathing frost every time. "I get it, I just haven't found any good ones yet... I guess you'll have to keep fighting like usual until we can figure this out. We've got a salamander to slay."

Vigilon got up, and Veriost took flight, waiting for the right moment to strike. "I'm not done yet. I'll finish this fight, and I'm going to claim victory here." The Giant Silver Salamander didn't seem to care. From the looks of things, there was yet another miss streak starting up. "Oh, come on!!" The Giant Silver Salamander had chosen to prevent Vigilon's attack, rather than attack him. It almost had a mishap of it's own, but it still stopped Vigilon's attack in it's tracks. Ind0minus facepalmed. "Do realize that you don't have to use the same Sword Art as if it was a pattern, for some monsters can realize that, and take that to their advantage. Don't let that runt outsmart you, Alex." "Yeah, I can see that." Veriost also seemed to be giving Vigilon a look, as if she was tired of this miss streak as well. Vigilon could understand her being tired of a miss streak, but not the look she was giving. "What?"

Vigilon sighed as he looked back to the Giant Silver Salamander. "I'm getting tired of this, so I'll just make this quick." Vigilon called out, "Ice Blade!" Veriost, with an expression that could be read as "Finally.", coated Vigilon's hands in a sharp layer of ice for the intended attack, the Sword Art, Delayed Sword. The successful attack knocked the monster even further away from the stream, in case it got any ideas. The Giant Silver Salamander's HP was also now in the red. Of course, the monster was able to retaliate. Kaldui watched the fight continue. "Y-you're getting close...keep...keep going." Kaldui was right about that. It would only take one more successful hit to finish the battle, and then they could finally get the ingredient they needed that was in this floor. "I'm going to win, I just know it. This will all be over soon, then I can at least take a break...hopefully."

He had to make a hit against the monster, and he had to do it fast. Just as the Giant Silver Salamander started moving towards him, Vigilon called out to Veriost a new command that he had taught her in a training trip prior to this day. "Comet Strike!" Vigilon got to a high-ish position, holding on to a tree branch, about five feet above the ground. Veriost landed above on a higher branch. Vigilon dove down to attack as Veriost also came down, coating Vigilon's hands in sharp ice, and then letting loose the raw power of her frost breath upon the monster. "Fo...Krah Diin!!!" Vigilon's attack dealt the final blow against the Giant Silver Salamander, and it shattered. Vigilon checked his inventory, and there was a vial of Silver Salamander Blood in there. Now they could return. "It's about time! What took you so long?" "Calm down, Azrea. The less damage you deal, the harder it is, and the longer it takes, to finish a fight."

The players began making their way back to Crocus Concoctions. Vigilon walked over to Kaldui. "So, I guess we're going to return the blood extraction kits too, aren't we?" Kaldui, in response, handed her kit to Vigilon without even saying a word. "...Ok then..." Once they'd finally returned, Vigilon got a message from one of his newest info brokers.

To: Vigilon

Hey, I thought you might want to know this. You're not gonna believe it, but there's someone who you'd mentioned was someone you knew in the real world, she's here in this game! I do have to say, though, she's got quite the power...

-Akudo

"Um...April...you didn't happen to, by any chance, encounter someone by the username Akudo, right?" "Akudo? Never heard of him." "From what I've been told, is that he is a scout who gives information, at a cost of col that depends on what intel is shared. Sometimes, if you're lucky, he'll share for free."

"Could you describe him? I may have encountered him, and not gotten his name." "Well, he has red hair, his choice of weapon is a dagger, he prefers black apparel, and always wears a red scarf, no matter what else he has on." Auranika took a few minutes before giving her answer. "I don't recall seeing anyone with such a description." Renixx had a theory, but he needed some confirmation from Vigilon first. "Did he message you about Lady April?" "Well..." Vigilon hesitated, but he opened up his messenger for the others to see. "'Quite the power', hm? That sure does sound like me...it couldn't possibly be Amelia..." "...And why would you suggest that? She couldn't possibly be here. You didn't see her, did you?" "Nope." "Ok, phew! I was worried that one of my friends was stuck here for a second, there!" Vigilon really disliked the idea of more of his friends being at risk here.

"Could this 'Akudo' have possibly spied on you to learn about you, Lady April?" "And why would you suggest that, despite that it would explain me not encountering or seeing him? Suspicious?" Vigilon pulled up his messenger.

To: Akudo

Um...how's your sneak?

-Vigilon

He soon got the following response:

Quote

To: Vigilon

Um...rank two. Why do you ask?

-Akudo

And Vigilon replied to that with:

Quote

To: Akudo

April didn't necessarily see you when you found out about her, so...

-Vigilon

"I swear, it sometimes feels just like texting..." The next response?

Quote

To: Vigilon

Oh, so that's April... I was wearing my cloak, so there may have been some confusion when I spoke to her.

-Akudo

"...He claims to have spoken to you, April." "Are you sure?" "He said he was wearing his cloak, so my guess is that the cloak obscured the hair." "And the scarf." Auranika thought for a minute. "Well, he did ask me quite a few questions...I guess that might have actually been this Akudo you speak of."

"He considered Lady April's strength and power remarkable. He also complimented on how wary I was, full of common sense and caution. to be fair, he did come across as suspicious at first..." "He then asked me quite a few questions, as I said before, and before he left, he said such power could truly rise to greatness, and I took that to be encouragement." "...Ok then..." Azrea sighed. "If only I could have such power...I could tear apart my foes, and hear them scream as I finish them!" Kaldui looked at Azrea with a shy, but stern expression. "S-see, this is one of the reasons I am unwilling to teach you. You would merely toy around with and abuse the battle style..." Vigilon looked to the two players. "You're still discussing that? I thought it was an official 'not gonna happen' that was accepted." "Hmph, apparently not. In Azrea's case, that is..."

Vigilon decided to drop the subjects of Akudo's apparent discovery of Auranika, and of the obvious reasons that Kaldui had to not teach Azrea her battle style. "So...anyone else have any thoughts on why they're interested in this little trip I'm taking?" "Um, w-well, I'm...I'm just...c-curious. J-just curious." "I'm interested in seeing what exactly you become." "Right now, you're absolutely weak and pathetic. I'd have a little fun with that if there was no such thing as an orange cursor. I also-" "Excuse me, Azrea, but do you mean to say that you would kill someone if it didn't give you an orange cursor?" "What? No! Well, not on purpose, definitely not." Ind0minus continued to look at Azrea, in hopes of possibly seeing whether or not that was a lie or truth. "If I was to kill anyone, it would be someone with an orange cursor themselves, only if they deserved it. My cursor would remain green, and I could have the chance to give them a taste of their own medicine, make them suffer, and hear them scream!"

"Yeah, um, Azrea, the way you presented it still makes it seem bad." Azrea realized that everyone was staring at her. "Uh...." Kaldui, once again with a shy, yet stern expression, had some words to say to Azrea. "You seem to act and speak as if what you want is chaos and destruction. If not, you should change the manner in which you speak." Renixx now had a stern expression as well. "Why do you fight, Azrea? To destroy, or to protect?" Vigilon looked at her and shrugged. "Hey, an honest answer is the only way you'll get out of this one...I think." Azrea decided to go with that. "I just can't get over the thrill of combat. As a result, I try to fight for the best reasons possible, and the occasional duel seems fun, too. ...But I always get so carried away..." She kind of trailed off there.

Auranika walked slightly closer to Azrea. "It seems to me that you crave the rush and adrenaline of combat, and thus you have trouble keeping it in line. I am not all knowing, so I'm afraid I don't know the solution to your problem. Perhaps speaking with someone who can might protect your cursor, as well as others' lives." "...I like where you're trying to go, but how you ended that doesn't make me feel any better about it..." Crocus Concoctions was in sight, so Vigilon had to break what was going on, and going to go further downhill. "Hey, there it is! it's in sight!" Vigilon rushed for the building, and the others followed so they could keep up. Vigilon knocked on the door, and a voice said to come in. Vigilon opened the door, and walked over to Scilla to deliver some things. "Here's the blood vial, and here's the blood extraction kits."

"Ah, there we go. I hope you don't mind me taking the other necessary ingredients you have off your hands." "Yeah, I don't mind." Scilla took the blood vial, the jar of waterfall water, the blood extraction kits, and a bottle of some weird fluid Vigilon had found in the tenth floor. "All we need now is a Dragon Fang." Vigilon looked at the time. It would be getting dark soon, so there was no time for another shenanigan before it got dark. "I'll have to handle that some other time, but I'll get it to you eventually." "Alright then, but could you give this to Vervain if you're heading back to the settlement?" "Sure thing." He turned to leave the building so he could head back, but before he reached the door, Peony tapped him on the shoulder. "Hm?" She was holding out a song crystal to Vigilon. "Um...here. I had found a single verse from a song on some unusual texts. I don't know what it's about, or even why I bothered to sing it...but maybe it may give you some courage if things look grim? I don't know..." "Hey, don't worry. I'll take it."

It was probably a vanity song crystal, but he accepted the gift anyway. "Well, I guess I'll be back with the Dragon Fang." Peony waved goodbye as she said, "Safe travels!" Vigilon saw the others waiting for him as he walked out. "Um...I'm running out of today's time, so I'll be heading back to the safe zone." Vigilon considered taking a look around as he made his way back to the safe zone. He spotted something that seemed slightly different than the rest. There was a multitude of large leaves on one spot on the side of the path he was walking on, so he decided to uncover it. Well, what do you know, there was a chest there. Ind0minus grinned lightly. "Very attentive there, Alex. Well done." Two chests in one trip? Score! Well, hopefully. He pulled the chest out of the patch of leaves. "All right, let's hope there's something good inside!"

Well, it was now or never, moment of truth. Vigilon hesitated as he moved his hand towards the chest to open it. Vigilon rolled to the side when the chest began to move. It kind of jump scared him, too, as well as the others. The chest was moving. It was a mimic. Figures. All the players pulled out their weapons, but just their luck as well, for it was then that tigers decided to show up. First the mimic, then the tigers. Clearly, the tigers would be distracting the other players. The mimic attempted to lunge at Vigilon, but he jumped to the side and avoided the attack. There would be more imminent chaos around, chaos that Vigilon certainly wouldn't be able to handle. There was only one thing to do here, in this ambush that happened from the sides of the path, so unexpected that it would disrupt all peace within...Vigilon knew exactly what to do. "I'm getting the heck out of here!!"

With that, he turned tail and attempted to make a fast getaway. This wasn't the time to wonder and ask himself, "Don't tigers usually go alone?", or, "Did every one of these tigers head over to this exact area coincidentally at the same exact time?". This was a time to flee. There was no way Vigilon was gonna stay here! Even Veriost was afraid! Vigilon moved past his allies as gently, but also as fast as he could. "Gang way!!!" He sped off, hoping to get away. He almost lost the mimic...but of course he had to get his left foot caught under a freaking root once again. Now wasn't the time for mishaps! Definitely not now! Vigilon fell on his face. As he was getting up, he heard a snarling growl followed by a tingle in his butt. He looked behind him to see that the mimic had bit him there.

"Get off my butt!" With some difficulty, he managed to remove the mimic from his behind, and toss it a good enough distance for him to get his foot out from under the root and start running again. The mimic kept following close behind as he ran. Guess a head start just wasn't good enough. Or, at least, the amount of time the head start was. Vigilon was worried that it would reach him, and possibly corner him or something, when, The mimic was struck with a correctly timed attack. Judging from the full force strike, as well as the familiar face behind the monster, Ind0minus had gotten the attention of the monster using the Sword Art known as All Might. "I'll be taking on this creature, and I'll get all that it drops." "Just take it! I'm outta here!" Vigilon took a shortcut through the floor's native flora, and the last trace of the fight faded from the horizon behind him.

Well, he'd gone and done the coward's deed, but hopefully one day, he wouldn't need to worry about a stupid mimic next time. Had he been able to dish out more damage, he might have been able to take that thing on with little trouble. The safe zone was in sight now, and by the time it took him to get here since the fight started, they must have finished by now. Vigilon pulled up his messenger.

Quote

To: Ind0minus, Auranika, Kaldui, Azrea, Renixx

Hey, I'm sorry if you found my cowardly choice of action stupid and all, I just didn't have the damage I needed to take the thing out, nor the mitigation to keep myself alive. I guess I'll see you tomorrow.

-Vigilon

He headed over to Vervain's place to deliver the item that Scilla wanted delivered to her. Vervain saw him coming, and asked, "So how did it go?" "I delivered it, got myself into some shenanigans, and now I've got this to deliver to you." "Hm? Oh, the research notes I requested. Thanks." Vervain walked away to her home, and Vigilon decided to sit on a rock to think about where he was gonna go to stay...but the rock he sat on...was the same one he'd slept on earlier that day. Images from both his trips to his mind flashed in it, and he fell on the rock, on his back, asleep. It was back to crazy dream land for him.

Summary:

Vigilon receives: 4 SP, 2500 Col, 8 T1 Mats, <<Unidentified T1 Perfect Light Armor>>, and 2 <<Unidentified T1 Rare Consumables>>
