Arabelle 0 Posted May 17, 2018 #1 Share Posted May 17, 2018 (edited) ❃ Magnolia ❃ la quinta orchestra > permanently closed. EXP: 2,572 [in effect:] custom ambition tool [~] On early mornings, the melodious notes of a piano can be heard floating down from an open window, heralding the start of a new day for Taft's inhabitants. Located along one of the narrow streets connected to Taft's teleport plaza, is a narrow three-story building known amongst players for its pleasant wake-up calls. Painted to blend with the aesthetic of the establishments surrounding it, purposefully trimmed vines climb along its exterior walls and colorful banner-like decorations hang beneath its tinted third floor windows and along the wooden supports bordering the entrance. A sign bearing the shop's name is posted above the doorway and on a wooden standee nearby: Open on Monday to Saturday 8 PM to 11 PM The first floor is the only area customers can access. Much like its exterior, it conforms to the whimsical and mysterious medieval style common to the trope. Dusk brown walls hold landscape paintings. Wooden shelves hold rectangular blue crystals, all etched with the silhouette of a black phoenix, which glimmer faintly under the yellow of hanging pendant lights. Stacked crates serve as dividers between shelves of different enhancement types; further inspection of the contents would yield different objects such as rolled-up scrolls containing write-ups of known quest details, vanity potions neatly ordered and stacked on trays, and a small ivory carving of a piano rested atop the only closed crate. "Good evening." Her silvery voice joins the faint song originating from a vanity crystal placed on a stand near her: undecorated, and perpetually looping through the songs in her repertoire. Standing with her gloved hands tucked behind her back is a young purple-haired woman dressed in warm comfortable clothes. If one caught her a moment too early, they might have seen her lazily twirling a finger through her purple locks as she flipped through the pages of a book, or staring blankly at the multiple trinkets and precious stones dangling from a "branch" on the ornate perch fixed atop her counter; a rare occurrence, she ensured. When she speaks again, a small intrigued smile plays on her lips. "How may I help you?" Arabelle 0 Posted May 29, 2018 Author #2 Share Posted May 29, 2018 (edited) Arabelle grinned and took a few steps back from her shopfront. She had just finished hanging the wooden sign above the doorway, marking the last of her preparations as done. Halfway done, anyway. While the outside looked gorgeous (not counting the obviously uncreative sign she made), the inside still had a lot of things lacking. Furniture, decorations, and most importantly...products to sell. As of now, she only had one, and it was the healing song she had crafted for her profession quest. It had a nice memory attached to it, and if she didn't need the money, she wouldn't be willing to let go of it. The small purple-haired girl would have loved to take a nap on her new bed up in the building's third floor, but she put that off for now. She needed to craft stuff and level. So she entered her shop, closing the door behind her, and ran up the stairs leading to the second floor of the building. She lifted the cover, placed a few music sheets on the music rack, and sat in front of the piano. And, before she forgot, Arabelle placed a crystal on top of the piano's lid. She took a deep breath, straightened her posture, and played. Two failed attempts, which both resulted in her Performer Crystals shattering due to the wrong notes being played at the wrong time, left Arabelle thinking that maybe she should have taken a nap first. Arabelle 0 Posted June 1, 2018 Author #3 Share Posted June 1, 2018 (edited) Moondust flew into the second floor and saw Arabelle sitting in front of the piano, warming up with a few scales. The crow perched on her shoulder, but she simply reached up and gently set the familiar down on a perch she had placed beside the piano. "Not now," Arabelle sighed, patting the familiar's head lightly. With that out of the way, she placed a crystal on top of the piano and started recording as she played. Her two crafting attempts both resulted in failures, though she was able to successfully salvage the crystal on her second attempt. No point in moping about it. She had seriously fallen out of practice. Arabelle lowered the lid over the piano's keys and left the room with Moondust on her shoulder. Arabelle 0 Posted June 4, 2018 Author #4 Share Posted June 4, 2018 (edited) Arabelle huffed, placing a crystal down in front of her. This was no good. She can't have a Performer shop and only have literally one song in stock. And if she had this much difficulty crafting songs she herself chose, how the hell would she fare with custom orders? She played a warm-up scale, pressed record, then started to play a song. Her two attempts today both resulted in failures, though as luck would have it, she was able to salvage one of her crystals again. She placed the lid back down and left the shop, ready to do literally anything else except crafting. Arabelle 0 Posted July 9, 2019 Author #5 Share Posted July 9, 2019 (edited) She pulled up the lid and sat down. Placed her recording crystals beside her sheet music on the rack and shooed Moondust away. Some weird force of nature had compelled her to start grinding for levels again instead of just doing vanity recordings. Arabelle cracked her knuckles (a bad habit, she knew), warmed up with a few scales, and played. Processing. Processing. Failed. She toggled with an option to erase the recording, only for the first crystal to refuse to cooperate and shatter into blue dust. Did it sound that bad? She remained seated in front of the piano with her eyes closed - sort of meditating. Then she played again and received another failure. The small purple-haired girl groaned and slammed her forehead against the keyboard, generating a rather unpleasant sound and a sharp but not so painful sensation. She turned her head to the other sole occupant of the room. "Clauuude. Stop laughing." Arabelle 0 Posted July 10, 2019 Author #6 Share Posted July 10, 2019 (edited) Arabelle dismissed the remnant shards of the crystal that was her first failed craft of the day. This wouldn't work. If she wanted to actually level up as a Performer, she would actually have to craft something other than the song she played during the EaL quest. The small purple-haired girl stared into space and ran through a few more warm-up scales. She activated her second recording crystal and started to play. A light sprightly tune filled the second floor of her shop as her fingers danced lightly on the keys. Eine Kleine Nachtmusik could be literally translated as "a little night's music," but she thought it was something more suitable to be played on a spring day. She finished playing, oddly feeling a bit more refreshed than before. Looking back at the recording crystal, she quickly learned why. "Eeeeeee." The small purple-haired girl allowed herself a moment to express her delight over her first success. Lowering the lid over her piano, she skipped downstairs to add it to her display. Arabelle 0 Posted July 11, 2019 Author #7 Share Posted July 11, 2019 (edited) This was a weird trend, but if it meant that Arabelle could finally have her successful crafts, she was totally fine with it. "I'll let you choose this next one, Moondust," the small purple-haired girl had said after she flipped through her music sheets with nothing really standing out in particular. She had felt uninspired after her first craft ending in a failure and she watched as the crow flew down from its perch - despite having no enhancements, it still understood basic commands, apparently - and flipped a few pages seemingly at random, and then stopped at one, nipping at the edge with its beak. "Good boy. Now go back. I'll play this one for you." She ran through her scales, pressed 'record' on her last performer crystal for the day, and played. When she finished playing, the crow was fast asleep. Arabelle 0 Posted July 12, 2019 Author #8 Share Posted July 12, 2019 (edited) And her streak (if you could call it that) disappeared just as suddenly as it came! Hell, even Arabelle was cringing at her playing. It sounded and felt so wrong, that she wasn't even surprised the performer crystal shattered violently upon finishing the song. The small purple-haired girl banged her head against the keyboard once again - this turning into an unhealthy habit - and turned her head to the side with a groan. She halfheartedly pressed down on a key. Then she sat straight up, internally cursing herself for her forgetfulness. The darn thing had been out of tune this whole time. Arabelle 0 Posted July 13, 2019 Author #9 Share Posted July 13, 2019 (edited) Staring up at her third-floor room's ceiling, she kicked off her desk and spun on her swivel chair. At the corner of her vision, the walls of her bedroom and the paintings - courtesy of her best friend - and photographs hanging on it blended together in a dizzying, colorful blur as she kept up her momentum, going faster, and faster, and faster - Arabelle put her foot down on the floor and her spin skidded to a sudden stop. The world around her was still whirling. She took a moment to recover from her dizziness. Then it was back to aimlessly staring at her ceiling again. She wanted to do something today - anything that wasn't crafting. But then she clapped her hands on both of her cheeks in an attempt to motivate herself. She wanted to level up her shop. She wanted to sell stuff. Okay! Getting up, the small purple-haired girl almost stumbled as she made her way out of her room and downstairs to the second floor. Maybe the dizziness had an effect on her; she only crafted one item and it was of the lowest quality. Bahr 0 Posted July 14, 2019 #10 Share Posted July 14, 2019 (edited) Bahr strolled into the shop, seemingly unaware that the shop owner was even around. He was looking for anything that would help him locate a familiar for the quest he had failed earlier. As luck would have it, there was one such item that seemed to stand out among the rest, a Familiar Sight. He examined the product for a moment before the shop keeper caught his eye. The was rather small in stature, her lavender hair tied up neatly on the back of her head in a bow. "Hey, uh, I had a question about this item," his deep voice boomed, "What exactly does it do? I'm hoping to nab a familiar later and it looks like this might help." Looking at the prices that were posted, he fished out some col and placed it on the table. Regardless of how exactly it worked, he wanted it. If he sat around and thought about it too long, it was possible someone else would stroll along and scoop it up before he had a chance. - 700 col @Arabelle Edited July 14, 2019 by Bahr
Arabelle 0 Posted July 14, 2019 Author #11 Share Posted July 14, 2019 (edited) Today's last notes still lingered in the air as Arabelle watched her second performer crystal break into pieces. She cracked her knuckles and relaxed her posture, dematerializing the first crystal she had managed to salvage. She wasn't feeling it today either. Downstairs, the shopkeeper's bell rang as the door opened. Her crow flapped its wings by its perch. No one was scheduled to come in today, and her friends knew she wasn't a fan of surprise visits, which means... The small purple-haired girl smoothed down her casual clothes and went downstairs. "Welcome to Magnolia. How may I help you?" she greeted with a smile. Her tone was clear, professional. It was definitely not something she repeated to herself every day for practice. "It's a Familiar Sight. Play it after you accept the familiar quest, and it'll boost your chances of finding one by a..." Her gaze flicked from the man's vibrant red coat to the craft in his hands. "A +2! And the buff lasts until the familiar quest is completed, so you only need to have one. Do you want it? That'll be 700 Col." She would accept the payment and give one bit of advice before he left, "That quest has pretty low chances, so it's most effective if you stack other buffs on top of it. A Spyglass from a merchant, an LD consumable from a cook, and an equipment with LD enhancements. Good luck on finding that familiar, mister." And that made her first customer. Arabelle 0 Posted July 15, 2019 Author #12 Share Posted July 15, 2019 (edited) "I forgot to do that thing!" Arabelle whined. That, coupled with the constant loud and unpleasant sound generating from her arms pressing down on the piano keys (it was turning into a bad habit), was enough for Moondust to very smartly fly back up to the third floor where it could continue its nap in relative peace. She buried her head in her arms and underneath the keyboard, her legs swung in a rather frantic and childish fashion. "'Thank you for shopping. Please come again.' It's basic shopkeeper etiquette! I rehearsed it in my head beforehand. How did I forget? Do you think he's gonna come back?" "You're doing fine," and it was followed by the sound of him dismissing his half-finished craft and his sewing materials to his inventory - lest he also end up failing all his craft attempts at her constant distraction, "If anything, the advice you offered gave him something else to come back to." The small purple-haired girl lifted her head. He had a point. Then she saw the remnant crystal dust of the crafts she had failed today. "I haven't crafted anything decent in three days, too!" Arabelle 0 Posted July 16, 2019 Author #13 Share Posted July 16, 2019 (edited) Today didn't yield any good results either. She'd made sure the piano was properly tuned. She did her usual ritual of closing her eyes for a second and meditating before pressing 'record' on the crystal. She played her favorite song for a change, and she thought she even felt a spark ignite in her dull heart at its beautiful, somber melody. And when that didn't work, she continued with the song she performed on the day she took her profession quest. But no matter what she did, it felt wrongwrongwrong. Arabelle salvaged her last craft and slumped over the piano, staring vacantly at the window that had appeared in front of her. Level up! The small purple-haired girl dismissed it with a flick of a gloved hand. Maybe she was just out of it today. The small purple-haired girl picked up her first successful debuff crystal and examined it for a moment before carefully placing it in her inventory. Arabelle wasn't sure if the increase in the number of daily craft attempts that came with her profession rank up was a good thing or a bad thing. She didn't even have enough to use up all her craft attempts for the day! The small purple-haired girl took her place in front of the piano and breathed in deeply. So she was going to make it count. Straightening her music sheets, the pianist stretched out her hands and began to play. The first shattered though she simply continued with a shake of her head. The second had the same result and her brow creased in frustration, but she took another deep breath and played. She stared intently at her notes, fingers gliding gently across piano keys as she translated silent instructions into a dark foreboding sound that reverberated around the room like the tolling of a funeral bell, until the sounds were absorbed as input by the performer crystal. Darkness swirled inside her completed crystal. This song was not meant to heal. Arabelle 0 Posted August 10, 2019 Author #16 Share Posted August 10, 2019 (edited) A couple of things went wrong with her first attempts, leading them all to result as failures. But Arabelle wasn't giving up yet! It was only because she'd spent a few days more than she'd expected gathering materials and the like, and now that she was actually crafting again after a huge restock, it would naturally take her a while to get back into the swing of things. So she decided to do something simpler. She played the Flea Waltz. The monster. "Ehhhh?" She quickly padded over to her familiar which had fallen from its perch as soon as the song ended. It was on the ground but thankfully, still alive. And kind of twitching. Whew. She wouldn't ever be able to keep on living as a pianist with the fact that she just killed her crow with the sound of her playing. The small purple-haired girl left it on a chair and returned to her piano. Okay, now to smash the craft -- oh? Holding up her finished rare craft, she shook it and the dark energy swirled within the pool of blue before gathering once again into a spiral-like clump in the middle. That wasn't supposed to be a debuff crystal, but whatever! A rare craft is a rare craft! Arabelle whistled happily to herself as she placed the crystal in her shop inventory. Arabelle 0 Posted August 27, 2019 Author #17 Share Posted August 27, 2019 (edited) The pianist led them forward, ever forward, her hand gently clasped around their wrist. They could back away if they wanted to. A few steps up the stairs, she looked over her shoulder to meet them at eye-level. "I haven't seen you in a while and I did disappoint with my last encore, so humor me for a bit will you?" Arabelle smiled, cold yet all-knowing. "Take a seat. I'll be recording this as a craft too, so stay quiet, okay?" She seated herself in front of her piano and straightened her music sheets. Skimming through them once again, she dismissed her latest craft to her shop inventory and set down another empty Performer Crystal. "Close your eyes and listen. Don't even look at me. Do you know how rarely I say that? Yes, rarely. Appreciate it." The small purple-haired girl breathed in deeply and her fingers hovered over the first notes. "A poem, from me to you." Recorded on a rectangular blue crystal with a black phoenix etched to one of its sides. A dark energy swirls in spirals within -- "Wait, this wasn't supposed to be a debuff crystal! Ah, well, a rare craft is a rare craft!" -- Somehow, it produces a suffocating sound wave that disorients an opponent when played. Arabelle 0 Posted September 19, 2019 Author #18 Share Posted September 19, 2019 (edited) Arabelle was having lots of luck with debuff songs recently, so she thought to try it on expanding her collection of support songs. They weren't as good as the crystals Alchemists offered, but they did give their own buffs which were limited only to her profession. She slid open the lid and warmed up her scales, starting off with a simple beginner piece she already knew by heart. To her delight, the performer crystal accepted the recording and she happily picked it up to check her enhancements. Uncommon. Yeah, whatever. It was an easy piece, anyway. The small purple-haired girl dismissed it into her inventory and flipped to the song she had marked down for a Familiar Sight. Jinx 0 Posted September 21, 2019 #19 Share Posted September 21, 2019 The final one, and the item she was happiest to pick up. Out of everyone in the guild, Jinx was rather excited to see Arabelle again. After months of inactivity, it would be nice to connect to the girl she felt a strong bond with, the same girl that gave her a lot of advice over the fights. She walked up, knocked on the door, and poked her noise inside...before entering her entire body. "Hello Arabelle...it's been a while, huh?" She said softly, making her way up to the counter, the soft and warm smile on her face "I was wondering, if you had any familiar searching song? I'm looking for one, and welll...i'll need some help doing it" The girl let out a soft, happy hum as she discovered the truth. Arabelle did indeed have one. Smiling, the girl placed 1000 Col on the table, completely forgetting the price and picked up the item. "Thank you so much! I'll make sure you get to meet them once i acquire them! I owe you Arabelle!" With a skip-in her step, the girl left the store (Not listening if Arabelle insisted she'd overpaid) with the item in her inventory, and excited to message a certain someone to ensure she had a friend to join her on her search. Purchase: 1000 Col (Paid upon post completion) Perfect Tier 1 Familiar Sight
Pinball 1 Posted December 25, 2019 #20 Share Posted December 25, 2019 Kobold stepped into the shop, his face downcast and his gray eyes tracing gently over the building's layout. It was a quiant little place; but he couldn't really appreciate it, what with his heartbeat pounding in his chest. This was the shop ran by someone he knew - someone who was close to a person he dared to say he cared a lot about. Troubling. But he was here because he needed a Performer, and there weren't many that would accept an orange player - let alone someone of his particular reputation. Still, he wore his disguise. As a buffer between him and his past. The girl who ran the shop was a bit - er, troublesome, to say the least. He bought the two crystals relatively silently, and paused before he turned to leave. "If you can make more of these, I'll buy them," he said. Pinball hesitated. "It's very nice music." - Buying: [x1] Le Gibet ~ Incarceration ~ [reference] Recorded on a rectangular crystal with a black phoenix etched to one of its sides.
