Rithe 0 Posted August 7, 2018 Author #41 Share Posted August 7, 2018 (edited) The chaos of battle reverberated off the trees, shaking them to the roots as each strike from every combatant compresses the air with their ferocity. Rithe narrowly avoids attack after attack (some that might not even be directed at her), but can't see an opening in the hail of tendrils. She takes step after step back, ending up with Zuel and her back to back. "Can you handle them? I'm going to need a bit more time with this one." This is going according to plan... She convinces herself, trying not to think about her teammates HP bar being chipped away slowly, point after point. Rithe refocused on her target, the wounded Nepent. It seems largely unconcerned with her, and defends itself against her halfheartedly. Getting more and more irritated, she misses her attack. I can't get close enough! This thing is the worst! She frowns and ducks under an attack that sails clean past her. She turns to look and notices her ally losing more and more health. What do you think you're doing. I'm your opponent now! Zuel 0 Posted August 7, 2018 #42 Share Posted August 7, 2018 (edited) Once again Zuel would be met with multiple with attacks at once unable to dodge them but although he had taken multiple hits his HP was still safely in green health so he didn't mind as long as he could protect Rithe. Readying his blade again he would look for an opportunity for an attack as the Nepents relentless assault would subside for a split second allowing Zuel to engage quickly moving through, leaving Rithe and attempt to finish off the Nepent. However the Nepents managed to clip Zuel on the way through causing his attack to miss as he would make his way through them giving himself more room to move in the open field. Although his attack miss he was able to give himself better positioning giving himself more room to move as all the Nepent would follow leading into his plan. Zuel would look passed the Nepent seeing Rithe in a safer position behind them, hoping she wouldn't have to continue dodging the crossfire. Rithe 0 Posted August 7, 2018 Author #43 Share Posted August 7, 2018 (edited) Rithe was upset. Understandably so, considering that she's been trying desperately to hit a single nearly-dead Nepent and yet failing miserably. Even though Rithe was standing directly in front of it and attacking, the monster appeared to have better plans, and kept trying to hit her ally behind her. Hit me! Not him. I'm your enemy! Dagger in hand, she weaves through the hurricane of attack, slowly closing the distance. Closer, closer, just a bit more! Her irritation gradually converted over into anger. Her face was difficult to read as she cut wildly at the creature. Stop. Living. Please. Anger and frustration was making her blood boil, visibly shaking in rage. "Just die!" Rithe shouts out, attacking with an unhealthy amount of indignance at the source of her hate. I can't heal Zuel if you're standing in my way! But the fight was not going in her favor, as she was pushed back by wave after wave of vines. There seemed to be nothing she could do; every attack of hers was effortlessly ignored and resisted, and it was infuriating her to no end. Zuel 0 Posted August 7, 2018 #44 Share Posted August 7, 2018 (edited) Zuel could feel Rithe's frustration as she continuously tried to finish the Nepent off but Zuel wasn't worried because he knew that she would be able to do choosing to continue to ignore that Nepent until Rithe managed to land a hit. Maybe if he could just finish one of them off it would reduce the amount of tendrils that were flying around leaving more room for opportunities. Zuel would get into his stance as the Nepent would come for him again. As they drew closer to Zuel, he would wait until they were in attack range and he would dash forward landing a final hit on the Nepent #2 finishing it off. It would glow white as it would shatter into sparkling dust before disappearing completely. The other two Nepent would launch their tendrils at Zuel as he would jump back to dodge one of the tendrils but the other would slash through the side of his shoulder. Hopefully after taking one of them out the fight would become a bit easier for them. Rithe 0 Posted August 7, 2018 Author #45 Share Posted August 7, 2018 (edited) The fight was dragging on, with no losses on either side. The intensity of the battle would be baffling to any higher tiered player given that the opponents are relatively weak floor one monsters. But to Rithe and perhaps to Zuel, this fight was very serious. Vines cracked through the air, leaving small cuts along Rithe's ally as he fought diligently. Rithe, however, was entirely focused on the foe before her. She was stressed to say the least, as she had been failing and failing to deliver a killing blow to this monster for the past few minutes. Rithe was struggling to find a moment in her life when she was more frustrated than this. Her knife was knocked from her grasp by a defensive tendril and stuck, point first, into the dirt. She was tempted to simply punch the thing, even though she was aware how little that would be of use. He noticed her dagger on the ground as he rushed over to it picking it up taking a tendril along the way. Finally reaching her side he would pull her back from punching the Nepent and simply hand her the dagger. "Don't lose your head now." He would say with a serious look before running back into the fight making sure he was ahead of her to have the remaining Nepents focus their attacks on him. Going after one of the full health he would attempt to swing his sword to damage it. Zuel would land a successful attack causing pain to the Nepent as the sword slashed through its body. The two Nepent would retaliate in an attack of there own attempting to hit Zuel with their tendrils once again. But she is defused by Zuel catching her arm and returning the dagger. He's right. Attacking this thing with adrenaline filled rage might be cathartic, but it won't ultimately help anyone. "Sorry." But he ran off before she could thank him for clearing her head. She flips the dagger in the air, tossing it in front of her, and catching it in an ice-pick grip. I will win. Even if we fight until the end of the known universe: It'll be just you and me in infinite darkness, fighting for eternity. Full-on sprinting, Rithe closes the distance in an instant, leaping at the Nepent with dagger poised to strike. Zuel 0 Posted August 8, 2018 #50 Share Posted August 8, 2018 (edited) Rithe's attack would put it low enough HP that she could easily finish it off with a single hit. Zuel would change his focus to the full health Nepent As he would let Rithe handle the other one. Zuel would run around the Nepent causing it to change it to focus him keeping its tendrils away from Rithe so she wouldn't have to deal with the crossfire. He was just going to have to trust in his ally to deal with it one on one while he dealt with his for now until one of them take their Nepent out. Zuel would set his sights on the Nepent that was closest to him as he because to circle the enemy quickly to get behind it as it would turn to try to keep up with Zuel's speed. Zuel managed to get to its back side and dashed in for an attack to hit it on his blind side however the Nepent was prepared swinging it tendril wildly behind itself to defend since it could not see. Unwavering Zuel would continue his attack hoping to finish it off before it could hit him. In the midst of her fight she hears Zuel's comment about her inability to deal with just one beast. "Making the lady do all the work? How very ungentlemanly of you." He would smirk at her. "Or do you still want me to come in and save you?" Teasing her again wanting her to finish the Nepent off by herself. The sun would begin to set as the sky began to become a mixture of red and orange. "We don't have much time before it starts getting dark. We should finish this up quick." Rithe 0 Posted August 9, 2018 Author #57 Share Posted August 9, 2018 (edited) She tries a different tactic. Rithe discards her dagger, raising her fists in a pitiful attempt at an unarmed combat posture. The knife falls the the ground, clattering against a tree root and coming to rest on a pile of leaves. I was tempted earlier to punch this thing, but now, it seems like the best idea that I've had all day. Rithe looks to Zuel, the red-orange sunset reflected in her gray eyes. "The adrenaline's making me think this is a good idea." She smiles at him, appearing to be amused about something, before turning to the monster and picking up her running speed into an all out charge. The Nepent reacted as it has before, casting forth its tendrils in a defensive screen to preempt the impact. Rithe winds her arm back for a punch as she gets closer trying to bait the Nepent into striking at her. It works, brilliantly. The monster, expecting an easy hit, strikes at Rithe while it seems that she isn't protecting herself. The tendrils are too fast for her to see, but a good guess was all she needed. Anticipating the attack, she ducks and rolls forward under the tendrils, as they overshoot her by yards. She's close now, far closer than the Nepent had intended her to be, and before it can retract its vines, Rithe grabs one. She grasps onto a vine by her side with her left hand, and yanks it as hard as she can, drawing the Nepent towards her onrushing right fist. Rithe's fist goes through the monster as it turns to sparkling pieces around her clenched hand. She shakes her wrist out, as she was expecting to hurt her hand(forgetting that you can't truly feel pain in Sword Art Online). She looks over at Zuel, "Don't look so shocked." All I needed was to commit. To temporarily disregard my own safety for the purpose of victory. She smiles comfortingly at him, collecting her knife from the pile of leaves, and sheathing it.
