[F01- SP] Aggressive Gardening «Secret Medicine of the Forest»

Cosi continued trudging through the darkening forest- it was definitely the sun setting- his eyes peering into the growing darkness when suddenly two things happened: it got a lot brighter and a variant nepent crashed through the undergrowth into Cosi's path. The sudden shift happened almost instantaneously. The moment the forest became shrouded in absolute darkness, pockets of light leaped into existence as hundreds if not thousands of fire flies blazed to life. But Cosi only had a moment to admire them in astonishment when a variant nepent practically leaped out of the bushes onto Cosi. Cosi had to quickly jump aside and ended up crashing into the ground and rolling away. He got up and futilely swung his sword at the variant nepent but thing stumbled away from him, swinging its spiked tentacles in retaliation forcing Cosi to raise his shield, Rose Gold, in defense. The blows fell on the sturdy steel causing no damage.

Cosi had another wonderful and utterly terrible idea. He was really good at those. He quickly pushed aside the failing vines with his shield while advancing a step. Then he let go of his shield, freeing up his hand and twisted his arm so he could latch onto both of the variant nepent's vine whips. Thorns punctured through the chinks in his gauntlets and the nepent variant shrieked. Cosi grinned. He pulled with all his might and succeed in yanking the screaming plant monster towards him. Cosi stepped and impaled the helpless nepent with his blade. Then he stabbed it again and again. The monstrous vegetable screamed in agony and horror as Cosi practically broke the monster into two pieces. Then for good measure Cosi brought up his foot and finished the job. He kicked the plant thing and split its fibrous cellulose body right in half. The thing continued to scream as it dissolved into crimson pixels. All Cosi did was scowl and walk through the descending paritcles. He hadn't gotten the drop.

Cosi kicked a nearby tree, splitting the bark, and causing him to wince in pain. Still no drop. The sun is down and I still don't have the drop. Cosi punched the next tree trying to vent his anger. The tree bark splintered and shattered. Cosi breathed in deeply and exhaled trying to calm himself down. Just a game, Alec. A really stupid game that might as well be life because I can die in here! Cosi punched another tree. This one was a lot smaller and his blow went straight through it. The wood splintered and cracked as the tree began to fall causing Cosi to quickly yank his gauntlet out and scramble away. The tree descended, breaking branches, and ripping off limbs. It hit the ground with a resounding crash that echoed throughout the forest. Cosi looked around fearfully. That would have been heard for miles into the forest probably bringing every dangerous thing that heard to Cosi. "Not good, not good, not good." Cosi repeated to himself as the silent forest suddenly came to life with sounds that Cosi had not heard before. Something besides nepents were definitely out there. As Cosi started to move away from the site he looked down and saw that he had a small ingot of steel clenched his fist after punching the tree. "Screw you game"

Cosi quickly tried to put as much distance between him and the fallen tree as possible. He sheathed his sword and slung Rose Gold over his backs ohe could use his hands. He made as little noise as a heavily armored warrior could while travelling over a forest floor covered in sticks, and under growth. Which meant he was slightly quieter than deafening. In reality he just wanted to move away from the origin of the noise because that's where all the monsters- and anything worse- would be heading that direction. But that only meant that while he was running away from about eighty percent of the things that go bump in the night, he was heading straight into the jaws, talons, or tentacles of the other twenty. Cosi tried not to think about that while he moved, slipping past trees and trying to tread lightly over bushes. Cosi could here the sound of rustling trees and bushes in the distances.

Cosi hadn't realized the movement was a lot closer than he thought tell it was right on top of him. Cosi backed away from the moving bush, trying to pull out his sword. Cosi tripped over a root or stone- his first thought was that it was third treasure chest- and went down just as whatever was in that bush emerged from it. Cosi tried to get to his feet only to have his ascent halted by a gnarled wooden stave. A hooded person, garbed in thick looking woolen clothes stood above the prone warrior. The person held a wooden stave whose point hover right over Cosi's exposed throat. The unknown person- Cosi couldn't even see their face because of the hood and the shadows- could easily crush Cosi's wind pipe. He did not want that to happen. The stave user started to say something when a movement caught Cosi's eye. Is that tree... moving? Cosi realized it was a nepent as it raised one of its thorn covered vine arms. Raised to attack the unaware person holding Cosi at stick point.

Acting without out thinking Cosi quickly knocked the stave aside- hoping he was faster than the hooded figure in front of him so he could keep his throat- and then scrambled to his feet. With the wood stave turned aside nothing was between him and the cloaked figure but Cosi didn't use the opportunity to attack them. No, he quickly rushed them and knocked them down just as the nepent's tentacle arm descended. Cosi felt the air part above his head as the vine passed over his head and the force ruffled his hair some. The two landed on the ground, the cloaked stranger giving a small oof as an armor plated warrior landed on top of them. Cosi mentally apologized, got to his feet slinging his shield off of his back , and charged the nepent. He was able to get one cut in then the second tendril raked itself across Cosi’s chest. Cosi rolled with the strike and attacked once more. His sword connected just barely but it was still enough to kill the plant thing. As Cosi watched the monster dissolve into particles he realized something where’s the second one? In a split second decks Cosi jumped backwards and the tendrils of the second nepent slashed the air right in front of him.

Cosi brought up his shield and charged the second nepent. He wanted to finish this fight before the cloaked person could be injured or even killed. Cosi didn’t even try to swing his sword at the nepent. He just ran straight at the sentient plant monster, not slowing. The nepent must have not realized what Cosi was doing because all it did was keep attacking the blonde haired warrior. One tendril got past Cosi’s upraised shield just as Cosi collided with the nepent. Cosi bashed his shield into the plant creature, digging its gold thorns into its flesh. The nepent screamed just as Cosi brought up his other hand. He didn’t even bother to attack with his sword- he was too close anyways- and smiple slammed his closed fist into the monster. The nepent shrieked again and stumbled backwards. The monster began to turn into glowing red pixels but Cosi wasn’t even watching.  He was running back to the stave wielder.

As soon as Cosi turned back to help the hooded stranger he found himself nearly impaled by a spear point. Apparently it hadn’t been just a wooden stave.  Cosi held up his hands- still holding both sword and shield- and took a cautious step back. He looked up from the razor sharp spear and saw that the spear wielder’s hood had fallen off in the fall revealing their face. Or should he say her face. In front of Cosi stood a girl only a little shorter than himself, jaw set in determination, and eyes glaring fiercely at Cosi. She had close cropped brown hair that framed her face and gorgeous- yep that was Cosi’s first thought- blue eyes. She was in a defensive stance but with the reach her spear gave her she could skewer Cosi with barely any effort. Cosi tried to seem as unthreatening as possible “look I’m sorry for tackling you but if I didn’t that nepent was going to kill you” Cosi’s eyes flashed around looking for more monsters then back to the girl.

The brown haired girl stared daggers at Cosi for a second longer then she relaxed and moved her spear out of its guard position. She looked at Cosi, this time with a softer more quizzical expression, and asked. "Who are you?" As soon as she lowered her spear, Cosi dropped his arms- holding a shield and sword aloft was heavy- and put them both away. "My name is Cosi" He held out his hand, "And I might ask you the same thing. Also what are you doing in this forest?" As he waited for the girl's response, Cosi looked around. He was searching for more monsters, sure that more would be heading their way, and he did not want to be surprised by any. The fire flies still glowed, moving about in small groups that dimly shed light. Once Cosi was sure he didn't see anything that wan't to kill either of them he turned back to the girl.
