History:

August was raised in a quiet suburban neighborhood, to young parents who worked into the night, leaving August home alone many days when he returned from school. For most of his young life he had the agency to play video games for hours until his parents returned home. Through this he became incredibly self sufficient, making his own meals, getting himself ready in the morning, taking himself both to and from school and making sure that everything was working properly. As he got older and older, he lacked the motivation to go to school and instead would prefer to retreat to the virtual world where he could live a life better than his own. August didn't have many notable friends, his shyness instead kept him at arms length from most people. Despite this however, he did have one friend, one person who he connected with on a personal level. A young boy named Jack, who shared August's love for video games and also had parents who were absent. The two regularly would visit each others houses to play with each other's consoles.

It wasn't until the release of the NerveGear and the announcement of Sword Art Online that gaming became less of something that only nerds did, and August was able to become less of a recluse. By this point however, the two of them were well out of school and were now attending college, meaning that all of their time was taken up by either school or working. August and Jack spent their free time researching and discussing about how they were going to approach the game. However, neither of them were lucky enough to become part of the beta, instead they were forced to readthe reviews and guides that were posted online by the beta testers. This only strengthened their affection and anticipation for the game as the months turned into weeks, which turned swiftly into days until the game was available for purchase.

The two friends arrived at the store a full day before the release and the line was already hundreds of people long, they accepted that perhaps they were destined not to get one of the limited copies. It wasn't until one of the attendants came out of the store and started counting people that the anxiety really set in. However, the attendant reached the two and kept going, meaning that they had made the cut. About ten people behind them, the attendant started to tell people that they were unable to purchase the game and turning them away. It was a mixture of emotions, anger and disappointment, that most people showed once they were told. Some people even walked up the line to people who were allowed in, begging them to buy a copy for them, however these people were all turned away.

August and Jack finally got their hands on their copy and rushed home to play it. Unfortunately, like everyone else in the game, they were destined to be trapped in there. The friends were swiftly teleported to the large center of the starting town, where they were informed that they were now trapped in the 10,000 player deathmatch, where only the strongest would survive. For the first month the two were too terrified to venture out of the starting city, afraid that they would be killed by one of the low level enemies that inhabited the fields around the city.

Eventually the two mustered up the courage to leave and fight their first enemy, however it was only Jack who did the actual fighting. August just sat and watched, confident that his friend would be able to defeat the level 1 boar.

The two continued on their adventure, filled with confidence from their battle. However, while walking through a rocky canyon, an high level jackal that was way beyond the capacity of both of them combined to handle. In their effort to escape, the monster swung its over sized sword and cut Jack clear in half. The sound of his body shattering into thousands of pixels bore its way into August's brain, scarring him, and terrifying him at the thought of leaving the safety of the starting city.

Eventually, he mustered up the courage once again to leave the starting city, it took him some time, but he emerged a changed person. He no longer was the bubbly cheerful kid he was before.

                                                                                               Personality

superthumb.png.4d01311e2b13e5d07b34414b5b2f57cb.pngAugust is a fairly reserved person, choosing to listen to people rather than inject his own opinions. In a similar vein he tends to keep to himself and doesn't have any friends in SAO, especially since his only friend died within the first few months of the game.Combined with his timidness, he is quite reluctant to let people get close to him. Unfortunately to most, this comes across as him being callous and rude which discourages most people from actually wanting to interact with him further than simple greetings. Once he opens up to someone, August quickly becomes quite bubbly and friendly, his confidence shines and he openly expresses his opinion. August can be quite caring about people, but getting to this point  is hard,

Virtues:

Kind Hearted

-Despite his rough exterior, August has a softer side, especially to those closest to him. For what few connections he has, he really cares deeply about them. It brings August a sense of satisfaction to help people who are in need, even back in the real world he would go out of his way to help his friends or even random strangers that needed assistance. In the game however, despite his need to help, sometimes he can be reluctant to approach strangers, much to his discomfort.

Calm

-August rarely ever loses his cool. Even in stressful situations he is always composed, allowing him to think clearly and make decisions that would produce the best results. Fortunately for him, not much annoys him so he generally just finds most things funny, unfortunately however for other people, this can lead to some getting pissed at him for not taking things seriously, or some people can just see him as an idiot

Quick Thinker

-In conjunction with his calmness, August is able to think quickly and on his feet, a helpful talent in the real time fighting system that was implemented in SAO. The decisions he makes might not always be the most correct ones but he tries his best and most of the time those decisions will be in his benefit. His timidness limits him however, as in groups he is usually reluctant to enter his opinion into the fray, afraid that it won't be good enough or that people won't like it.

Flaws:
Absentmindedness

-August tends to spend long periods of time staring off into space, unfortunately sometimes during conversation. This tends to turn people away but he doesn't do it intentionally, sometimes August's attention will drift to a small detail and he will get lost in thought about that small thing. Luckily this hasn't gotten him killed so far as he tends to focus in times where it is vital.

Timid

-August tends to shy away from conversation and interaction with other people, he would much rather enjoy his own company in the game but he is not adverse from partying up with people. This timidness stems mostly from the fact that he didn't have many friends growing up so he didn't get used to how to properly interact with people. Mostly he is just embarrassed but there isn't anything wrong in his view with enjoying the privacy of his own company.

Callous

-When someone first interacts with August, they are likely to have their greetings returned with a blunt response, only one word or even just a noise is the norm for him. This most often turns people away and discourages anyone from even trying to start a conversation. Some try to persevere and before long the mask he puts on will come off and he will become like his old self again.
