The priest Zack would lead the players to the back of the church and look out into the yard. The green grass was fading, slowly but surely. Dark clouds covered the sky, thunder heard in the distance. There was no natural light to speak of, only lamps and torches keeping the place lit up, as well as the light that came from the lightning. He turned to the players with a grim look on his face. "Well, here we are. The feeling is strongest here. And it's growing stronger with every passing moment. What's odd is that the closer it is, the more confusing it seems. I can't tell if there is a single powerful force or a horde of foes." He shook his head and held the cross around his neck before looking back towards the players. "Whatever happens, whoever your foes may be. Do not let your will or faith waver. Remember that the devil and his minions are masters of lies and will seek to undo you. Do not let them turn you against each other in any shape or form." He closed his eyes. "May the Lord watch over you all, and guide you." He left the area and headed to the courtyard as he himself would surely be killed in the onslaught that was yet to come. The players would have a little while to talk, some peace and quiet on their end before anything happened. All the while they could feel the sensation of being watched. For there was someone watching over them. One who was being cautious, and would leap into action as soon as the players required aid. The players would know they were being watched, but they could not discern where they were being watched from. Whether it be in the church, the courtyard, the yard they were in, the village, another floor. Nothing. In addition to this, any player not wearing a cross the priests handed out would feel a strong effect over them. All of them would feel weaker, heavier, oppressed even. As if an icy mountain were placed on their shoulders to carry. If they had a corrupted or divine weapon in hand, it would feel dull or dulled. And every single player's weapon would feel heavier than usual. If the players looked at their stats, they would notice that this sensation was effecting them in that regard as well. Players who carried and even equipped the cross the priest's handed out would not feel these harmful effects, and instead only feel a tingling sensation. As the players were experiencing the effects and discussing with one another, there would be a loud thunderclap in the sky. As the light flashed from the lightning strike, silhouettes would appear in front of them. Hundreds of silhouettes of all shapes and sizes. A few seconds afterwards, those hundreds of silhouettes began appearing to the players. Every single version of a demon they could have possibly imagined. Every horrific creature, intimidating beast, and disturbing monster (no comedy/toon demons) stood before them. Their skin or scales having cracks over them, with red and orange heat showing through. Their eyes black and full of hatred mixed with the void. Their very posture poised to charge and shred the players limb from limb. There originally was a good distance between the players and them, but the demons were now charging, closing the gap. The demons in the back moving slower than the demons in the front, thus they would reach the players in waves. If players killed one of them, another would immediately take it's place. For each player in the groups, four demons would charge forth. They would not reach the players just yet however, and thus the players had time to react, before the onslaught began. Field Effects Spoiler These are applied to players who do not carry a cross necklace with them, given out by the priests. Unholy Ground : Players lose 1 base damage, 6 Mitigation, 2 stealth points, and 5% total health healed Veil of Shadows : Fallen damage is rendered useless. When having Holy damage on their weapon, players only receive half that enhancement's benefit against Artamiel. Corruption of Angel's Point : All sword arts have a 1 post cooldown. Zandra 0 Posted October 17, 2018 #2 Share Posted October 17, 2018 Zandra gave a last look at the tier one and two players. She honestly hope they would come out of this alive. This was certainly many of them’s first big fight. ‘’Good luck.’’ She said silently towards the group. After that, she followed the priest to the back of the church, to a yard. The priest talked a bit and gave them all a final prayer before he leaved. As he was gone, a strange feeling striked Zandra, like someone was watching her. She looked around to try to spot the person in question, but nothing. She guess she have to ignore that feeling for now. That’s because another feeling stroke her, she felt heavy and slow. ‘’What the heck is this?’’ she said and tried to stand straight while feeling this heavy weight on her shoulders. Was the priest saying the truth? Zandra looked down on the necklace in her hand and then back to where the priest had disappeared. She closed her eyes and gulped. She putted on the necklace and felt the feeling disappear. ‘’Guys, it seems this cursed looking item works.’’ She said as she looked down at the cross. ‘’Did anyone else feel that heavy feeling? I did and it disappeared when I putted the necklace on.’’ She said loud enough for everyone to hear without screaming. Not long after that, she herd a rumble. She looked towards where the sound came from and saw a horde of creatures coming towards them. They actually kinda looked like herself, or rather her armour and weapon. She placed herself in a battle stance and smirked as she looked at the others. ‘’So, may the battle begin!’’ she said and a moment later she darted forward with her charge skill and preparing her sword art. When she was among the first wave, she released the power of her axe. She saw the familiar black smoke surround the axe which showed the fallen damage had triggered. Not only that, two of the demons bursted out into flames as well. This was a pretty good start she thought to herself. Itzal had been wearing the cross necklace the entire time so he didn't receive the effects. However, he did notice them to other players, and heard Zandra's words. He nodded. "It's probably the corruption in the area that's doing this. Whatever we're fighting is causing this suppression." When Zandra mentioned the necklace Itzal walked over and shook his head, holding the necklace up a little bit to show it. "Not cursed, anointed with oils and blessings. There's a difference. If it were cursed then we'd have a negative effect on us wouldn't we?" He let it drop and stood beside her in silence. He still had his face covered with his hood and mouthpiece, staring out into the fields. "...Zandra. What are your thoughts on the frontlines?" he asked her. As he listened to her answer he'd glance over at Shield for a moment, recalling the fall of the Ascendants, a heavy weight on his heart. When their enemy appeared he snapped back into focus and drew his sword Yakimba which immediately sparked lighting across the blade. He watched as Zandra rushed forward striking three of them at the same time. Her power was incredible. He then activated his own charge and used an AoE attack, striking four of the monsters himself, applying bleed and paralysis to the first target. When he struck then he nodded to the other players in his group. The fell beings closed in on them from the front, and he felt the weight of the battlefield effect slam down on him like a ton of bricks, but his own Stone Wall defense held fast. When Zandra spoke, he nodded his agreement, confirming that he too felt the sensation. "Beat," he mumbled, glancing over at his ally. "I think you should use the amulet. I'll sharpen you next turn if everything goes well, so save your charge for once I'm set. I have a hunch that these items aren't what they're advertised to be, and likewise neither are these priests. We'll play their game though. But I'll leave it off for now." He checked his readout on his visual HUD. "I'm weakened, but I'm still in good condition for now. If you go rogue, I'll do what I can to bring you back to reality. Just remember who I am now that I'm here. If you see something and think it's me, but it does anything suspicious, like attack instead of defend or lose its temper over something small... assume that it's not really me. I'll be signaling you, so look for a sign if things don't feel right." With that, he turned to face the legion and charged ahead, standing in front of the church and his fellow front liners. "Hey, you glow stick wannabes," he howled, kicking up dust and debris in the wake of his voice, his wind hitting the flying demons like a wall of force. "Come here and take what punishment is coming to you! Ain't nobody else but me that you clowns need to worry about out here!" He took his vanity sword and slammed it into the face of his shied. The eyes of the Manticore Mask lit like angry embers, piercing through the dusk to taunt the army of foes. Ruby 0 Posted October 17, 2018 #5 Share Posted October 17, 2018 Ruby had looked around after the speech about corruption and demonic influence, "Demons... why did it need to be demons..." Ruby had thought to herself, then looked around to her party that she had been assigned, she only knew at least two of them, one other she barely knew, however she only really knew Shield and Zandra. She has no real idea to what she should be entirely doing when it comes to strategy or really what sword art she should be entirely doing... however she knew she could at least take one out on her own agenda. Ruby had moved forward onto one of the Demons that had swarmed the area around all the players and began to attack. Ruby charged up one of her signature moves and attempted to punch one of them... however, typical Ruby she had tripped and fell onto the ground attempting to perform the attack. If players have not posted or finished editing their post said post does not count.] The players had made the first assault, cutting down seven of the hordes of demons the players had to defeat. Each strike slaying the demons swiftly and easily. However this didn't seem to bother the demons very much as they continued to charge. It would be evident they didn't fear death and were focused only on rushing and killing the players. The three demons attacked by Zandra roared as they perished, the last two howling in pain as they combusted into flames before falling onto the ground, their corpses burning to ash. The survivor of Zandra's attack roared as it rushed at her, but hesitated when it heard Shield's howl. It changed directions and went after him instead with three additional demons following suit. Each of them striking at Shield viciously and without mercy, all of them trying to tear through his mitigation. The single freakin plan i could've provided was thwarted by Zandra just getting trigger happy or something when my single plan was simple. They certainly had horrific looks to them, but with a sigh the bluenette brought his emotions to center. It wasn't the time to let them run rampant. With that the Ultramarine Knight lowered his stance, the Grand Legionbane coming to life with a bright blue hue that seemed to light up where he was standing, "Alright, I'll leave the aggro to you for now!" Shooting forward with his charge empowered weapon Calrex brought the massive weapon to his right side and made a wide swing, catching one of the demons in their mid-section and pulling them in front of him. With a second swing another demon was moved from the left side to center. On the final swing the bluenette leapt upwards, axe overhead before coming down with a powerful smash that caught a third while smashing the two, missing a fourth that was a couple of feet away. He would then turn, seeing the Priest leading the rest of the players walk away from the chapel and informing the players that this is where the feeling was strongest. He didn't understand what this feeling was, but many of his allies seemed to be noticing it. He would watch as figures of black would rise form the ground, each of them in their own different shape and size. A first wave would appear and he stepped forward ready to attack but the first group began out. Gritting his teeth he would wait but keep his mouth shut. These players wouldn't heed anything he had to say. None of them trusted him anymore. He didn't blame them, he didn't even trust himself anymore. He was just another failure, someone who tried to lead but failed all of his followers. He wouldn't get the chance again, didn't want the chance. Their group would begin to attack the demons that would come from a different direction. 'Good, we can split focus, taking on one side at each time. As long as none of the demons get through, we should be fine. That is if they don't overwhelm us. I've never dealt with a horde event before... Its cool I guess' he would think as he faced the oncoming demons. The first demon to head at him was dark and shadowy, many swords sticking out of its body as if it had befallen many warriors. His blade would begin to gleam a blue aura before he would spin, slashing horizontally through the body of the demon and then slashing out at the next nearest ones, hitting four in total before his attack would end. He paid no attention to if they had died or not as it seemed that where he struck black dust would pour from. "Who's next?" he would mutter glumly. Corrupted souls were some he had to fight once before, on this floor as well. Standing with his sword stuck in the ground and both his hand on the pommel, waiting for the fight to actually commence, Macradon would feel a tug in his chain to Belphegor. The two partners could feel a synchronized weight slowly pushing them down, like a curse from the area. “Interesting. Finally a real challenge!” Macradon thought with a smile as he would pull his sword from the ground. The plan was simple, his party would fight first because they knew it was going to be a group of monsters, if they were small ones, the AOE of their team would suffice, but if it was single target, that was also a possibility, but Zandra did not seem to follow the plan and went straight into the frey without what seemed like much of a thought. Macradon would click his tongue and get into battle stance “Typical” he thought. With the shine of his Holy Weapon, Blade of the Dictator, Macradon would not hesitate when his party began their battle, using his <Charge> to fight the horde of demonic shadows. The first group seemed to have defeated a handful of these demonic shadows, but the ones emerging towards Macradon's group seemed to be bigger and more fierce, which was fine. Just before the enemies arrived, however, a field effect was laid over him with some new debuffs he had never seen before. That's odd. His steel blue eyes suddenly became more alert as he looked around the dark and gloomy floor. Having a cooldown was going to make things more difficult, though the reduced stats didn't bother him too much... yet. As demons of darkness rose from the ground in a huge number, Baldur was reminded of the 300 battle and bloody necklaces everyone was useless without. It seemed that might be a similar setup here. What's with the system and necklaces during horde fights? But his anxiety was relieved when Zandra leapt recklessly into the midst of the enemy. It was something very Zandra, but when she whirled her axe and struck down the demons she hit, he suddenly felt much better about what they were doing. When Itzal followed, slaying the enemies with his own AoE, Baldur became even more confident. If Itzal was taking them down with his AoE then these were fodder meant to reduce their resources. Well, he could play that game too. The two parties clashing with the demons as they came charging in, party 1 being slightly ahead and taking the brunt first without much retribution. "Stick close together, and don't let them separate us from the other." Baldur waited until they were almost upon his party, before releasing his <<charge>> sword art <<AoE>> and began to dance around the area as the system controlled his movements. The job was simple enough; keep the church safe and don't die while trying to keep the church safe. Given the track record of these people, there wasn't too much to be concerned about. Sometimes the immense amount of power granted to the players made him wonder just who the true monsters in this world were. Philosophical questions would have to wait though. The fight had started and, well, they weren't dead yet at least. That was always a good sign. While everyone else seemed to go for hard hitting openers Seul opted for a less flashy approach. He didn't need to stay the entire army at once, just whatever stragglers happened to be unfortunate enough to cross his path. Through the chaos his eyes settled on one demon in particular. It would be the first to die by his hands! The clang of metal leaving it's scabbard reverbed while the gap separating him from with his prey steadily closed. If players have not posted or finished editing their post said post does not count.] The hordes of demons rushed towards their targets, but as usual the players were able to land their strikes first. Hestia roared at the demonic horde. Her words riled them up, motivating them to tear through these weak humans and claw their way into the church. Roaring back, four demons rushed at Hestia, their long talons scraping past her armor. One of them leaped onto her and sank it's teeth into her neck. The four of them seeking to not only kill her but devour her. Before they could inflict anymore damage, or even push her onto the ground through sheer numbers and strength, the other players managed to cut down the demons. Successfully creating four twisted, monstrous corpses lying at Hestia's feet. While this was happening, the demons watched as the other players cut down more of their kind before determining who the strongest one was, and charged after him. Macradon being their target, the demons rushed forward. This time however, these weren't as beast like as the rest of them. While still wild and ruthless, these demons could wield blades themselves. Each rushed at Macradon with chipped curved blades at the ready. The demons roared as they slammed his sword out of their way, ignoring the blood that spilled out in the process, and slashed at him with their blades. The demon who hadn't been cut up grabbed Macradon's neck and lifted him up, roaring as it held it's sword up to cut him down again. However, it never got that chance. A powerful light exploded behind them that sent a shockwave through the fields. The players would lose balance a little bit but not fall down, and the demons would be knocked back. Including the demons holding Macradon, who would land on his feet regardless of how he fell. Behind them hovered a brilliant angel with blue clothing and silver armor. Her wings stretched out far and wide, a halo over her head. And in her hands was a massive spear which she held horizontally. "Fear not players, for I have come to aid you. I am Artamiel, the Astral Blade. Angel of Judgement. And I shall aid you in this fight. Stay strong, for the worst is yet to come," she said as her staff glowed a golden light. As it did so, the players health would rise back up, as well as their energy. The demons shook it off and looked a bit worried, as well as confused. But after a moment they simply roared and rushed right back into the fray. She didn’t really understood if he meant what she thought about the frontliners, or what she thought when she was on the fronlines. Okay?’’ she asked before charging into battle. *** This was truly something else, a horde of demons, versus ten frontliners. And all of us had charged in, slaying beast after beast. To judge of of their current situation looked, this would be over pretty quickly. But would the priests have summoned them for just this? It was too easy. Not only that, she suddenly felt her energy refill up to full. Was Shield really energising her? But Beat was in the same party, why on earth would he refill her energy. Not only that, it got up to full, the skill wouldn’t be able to do that after an explode catapult. That when she herd a voice. "Fear not players, for I have come to aid you. I am Artamiel, the Astral Blade. Angel of Judgement. And I shall aid you in this fight. Stay strong, for the worst is yet to come," At first Zandra froze in place, an angel had joined them. AN ANGEL! But that was not all reinforcements, the demons had got some more pals as well. Zandra gulped as she looked at the increased numbers of beasts. A third wave had now arrived, Zandra looked around. Wave one and two was as good as destroyed. So she charged the new and fresh enemies, this time landing every blow on each target. In the end, he had come to realize that he didn't spend much time getting to know Zandra, and wanted to bridge that gap at some point. Eventually that is. "Afterwards then." *** Itzal watched as the hordes of demons just kept coming and coming. Itzal wasn't sure if they would actually swarm into the church inside if they failed or left, but he couldn't focus on that right now. He had to focus on defeating as many of the demons as he could. However, the strategizing part of his mind was thinking something similar to Zandra's own thoughts. This wasn't right. While the demons seemed to be gradually growing stronger over time, they were really weak. In addition to this however, there was also the fact that while the demon horde was being cut down, there seemed to be more and more rushing in. There didn't seem to be any end to it all. Just as he used his sword art on another wave of demons however, there was a flash of light and his eyes widened. He leaped back from the demon horde and turned around to look, seeing a tall angel. Female and in what seemed like war armor, wielding a spear as well. He heard her words, how she claimed to be there to help them. He saw her spear as it healed and restored them. He narrowed his eyes in confusion and confliction towards the angel. He hesitated before doing anything. Why was she carrying a spear if she was a healer? Justice, astral blade, they didn't make him think of healing. He wondered if the entity was telling the truth or not. He looked at the angel then at the horde charging at them. One of these was the real boss. The other was a fake. Is the horde some new type of boss, or challenge? Or is it the distraction while the angel came in and attacked them? If they had an angel be the villain here he would be very pissed. Unless... Unless it was a- Itzal couldn't finish his thoughts as another monster leaped onto him and lashed at him. Ruby 0 Posted October 21, 2018 #16 Share Posted October 21, 2018 Ruby had pushed herself up from the floor and looked around at the demons that had remained and the party she had been assigned to, she had looked to see that her Sword Art had oddly been limited and that she could not use it at that time. Ruby had smacked her lips a bit in disgust and she had looked forward back to the devils that had surrounded them... however she had just thought that it would be better for her to wait for her big attack to return to attack with. So she looked back at her party members to figure out what to do, looking at all her members she noticed that all of them had full HP, which had limited her to basically one other thing that she could do: Sharpness. Walking over to Beat, a man she had done this to many times before and placed a hand on his back to give him a sharpness buff "Here, take a attack buff. Should help you out." she had said with a giggle. Shield was just taking in a breath to howl once again when another entity joined the fray. He frowned. "Well, they weren't exactly subtle about it," he grumbled under his breath. He remembered back to the warning the priests had given, as well as his understanding of classic angelic and demonic lore. "The enemy will appear as a messenger of light." Drawing in his full breath of air, he pressurized his lungs and launched a wave of sound that swept through the demon ranks and caught the edge of Artemiel's wings. "Listen up, front liners! Don't trust the angel! Remember the warnings of the priests! Don't trust anyone who pretends to help you!" He turned his eyes to Beat giving him a shrug and a questioning look. "Why aren't you moving? Come on, Beat, we need you out there! Take a swing at that angel! There's no way it's actually here to help us. That's not how this game operates and you know it!" He held his Manticore Mask shield aloft, bracing for the onslaught of demons and whatever tricks the so-called angel would have in store. "If I had to wager," he gruffed, keeping his eyes just over the top of his shield to watch the next wave, "the angel is responsible for the sea of demons, likely being the one rallying them. If players have not posted or finished editing their post said post does not count.] The demons continued to surge forward. These demons were bigger than the players with massive hands and claws. Many of them having horns. However there were also the demons who wielded large brutal and rusty blades who held a murderous look in their eyes. The demons honed in on their targets, these being the player who drew them in with his cry, and the player who was dealing the most devastating damage to them. They rushed over to Shield and attempted to bulldoze him onto the ground. However, he proved to be too strong and unmoving. It was as if they were charging a stone wall, not some man wearing armor. Still, their massive claws and horns were able to push through his defenses more than the last time. The first demon, which looked like some twisted combination of massive dog mixed with a bull then demonized, charged at Shield and thrust it's horns into his torso. Then two other demons rushed in and hacked their claws at his shoulders, applying as much force as they could to him. Yet even then all they could do was push him back a little bit. This of course caused the demons to become enraged, and another demon was charging forward to help them. but before they could do anything else, they were cut down by Zandra. The horde watched this and changed their next attack to target her, rushing towards her to deal as much carnage as they could. The first demon was able to get around her defenses and cleaved her body from the shoulder to her hip with it's rusty blade. The second demon however couldn't get past Zandra's skills and defenses. Artamiel activated her healing aura, restoring any and all damage dealt to the players on either party, as well as restoring their energy a little bit. She smiled as she did so. However that was short lived, as Artamiel's eyes widened towards Shield who ordered Beat to attack her. Her shock lasted for a minute before it shifted into frustration, her eyes narrowing. "What are you doing? I'm trying to help you all! The horde is growing stronger with each passing wave! I'm only trying to keep you all ali-" Before she could finish, the players would see Artamiel's health drop a very tiny amount as they saw Beat attack her instead of the demon horde. Her eyes widened before she flew from the first party to the second, her spear in a defensive position as if to shield herself from Beat. "What are you thinking?! Can you not tell enemy from ally?" Macradon 0 Posted October 22, 2018 #19 Share Posted October 22, 2018 (edited) If was going great, the group kept taking out groups of these pesky demons and it didn’t seem like it would ever become a problem for the frontliners to take care of this horde, thinking of past events, they did indeed delete a horde of over 300 Spartans in a boss raid before, cowering the 64 demons in sheer size of numbers. Macradon would take in a deep breath as he was about to go out and clear out a few demons, but as he was beginning to ready himself, an angelic being appeared, but so did more demons, coming to the demons aide. “This is oddly familiar … like that anime where this useless holy figure only brought trouble with them … maybe this angel is just as useless and just brings more harm than good.” Macradon thought as he looked at the angel with a dissatisfied look. “If this angel just shows to be as useless as Unkown and whatshisface, then I’ll quit all events where these useless NPCs keep showing up. They’re nothing but fodder that get in the way.” he mumbled for himself as he began to charge up to the demons. As he began to get his <Charge> skill up and running, @Shield's words triggered a memory in him from the 13th floor boss raid. The "good" angel turned against them. With that in mind, Macradon would follow suit and attack the angel, be it on their side or not, it's just an NPC, making his Player Cursor orange or not, he would not want a prolonged fight after taking out the demons and the angel "on their side" would then turn on them, Boss Fight Phase 2-like, it was just tedious, and Macradon wanted to get this event thing done, it was nostalgic, but still boring. Macradon would agree with Shield's reasoning "Good point!" he said and turned towards the angel. As he used his <Charge> on Artamiel as well as a few stray demons, Macradon would utter a few words as his Bull Rush would activate on the angel. "I do, last time an angel tried to help us, he turned against us. Last time I tried to fight an angel that just wanted to be decorrupted, he turned even worse and I had to kill him as well. Let's see if this is different." he said as he jumped up in the face of the angel and thrusted his pommel in the angels face with his <Tempest> sword art. He could have likely done so as well, as switching from AoE to single target was a breeze for him right now, bout that would also result in a longer cooldown before he could switch back to the two-handed axe again. "The angel most certainly can be a threat, but we can't forget the fact that there's still numbers against us right now. If we all decide to change targets, then the demons will likely overrun our primary tanks. Can't let that happen for sure." "I'll focus on keeping the demons back for now. Gripping the handle of his axe with both hands the Ultramarine Knight brought it to his left side, head resting against the ground. In an instant the weapon blazed blue before he rushed forward once again, his eyes set on eliminating the rest of the second wave.
