[SP-F5] <<Bloodstained Land>> Painted Sands

Recommended Posts

A new boss? Interesting, one that was derived from the Land Shark he previously fought before. The quest offered loot that would help him gain a level, so he needed to take it on. Unfortunately, there weren't that many connections that he could reach out to these days in order to gain a party. So he needed to take it on solo, though the statistics provided by the quest was a handy assist to confirm that it wasn't that big of a deal. Damage was going to be taken, sure, but it wasn't anything he himself couldn't handle. The worst part about it would probably be actually landing the hits on the enemy, but with his refined new weapon and sets of skills, he should inflict mighty damage onto an enemy when he does get the chance. With the temporary trade off ability that it has, landing the hits should almost be guaranteed. And so he would proceed to set out towards the desert in search for the land shark that he fought back in the beginning of the game.

Taking his steps through the desert, the imprints would disappear as the winds took the sand to cover the tracks. Not a single person could be found having a history with such shaking winds, so no one would find his presence through tracks. Mere luck, that was how one was supposed to find him in these gusty sands. Yet that was no different than last time, perhaps he was shaken about having to fight a boss again? Perhaps, that was what brought a massive mess on his hands when he returned to the game in the first place. Sure, he dropped a spear, but he proceeded to bring up a pair of fists in exchange. And they were just as windy and gusty as the winds, so they could bite him. But as he would step through the lands, he felt the ground begin to shake below his soles, his eyes swiftly sharpening as they were trying to track down the mystery earth shaker. Naturally, what else could it be than the one monster he signed up to take on?

It looks as though the shark found some prey, but it didn't strike at the right moment. Hastily trying to get to Sey, it's jaws widened before it launched itself up to try and consume the player all in one bite. He was swift and alert enough to react quickly, hopping once onto the jaw of the beast as it rose before jumping off again. A few flips back and his feet would meet the ground yet again, sliding on the surface of the sand before looking up towards his surfaced foe. And it was not looking like a shark like the original, it seemed more like an armadillo. Definitely not as soft as one either, and it's health bar was far larger than before. Not by much, but this definitely will not be a one-hit knockout like previous matches in the past. "Kyu, I need your assistance for this." Sey would order, flicking his finger over the menu to summon a snow-colored wolf right by his side, and she didn't seem that happy to be woken up from her nap.

The shark didn't hesitate to strike Sey when it could, charging through the sand so swiftly when given the chance. This had to be the assault mode that was talked about, but never in his life would he have been able to predict such speeds from the shark. Before given the chance to react, the shark would slam itself again Sey's body, completely ignoring any mitigation that he was supposed to have and bringing his health bar down by a pretty heavy amount. His body was launched back a decent distance, body rolling against the sand as well as a big red "Critical" sign being placed on top of him. As painful as the slam was, the shark's reckless assault brought an opening that he would have lacked otherwise, allowing him to get back on his feet yet again. Though he seemingly vanished out of sight, he would reappear right in front of the shark before aiming a quick flame-filled fist towards the jaw of the boss monster. The size was usually enough to cause the impact to go null, but the illusion of the game gave him the strength to knock it back, though nowhere need as far as it launched him. Still, the health bar suggested that there was a respectable amount of damage inflicted.

Kyu growled when the sand shark recovered from it's grounded position, she clearly didn't like the look of life that she didn't approve of. Things she hated, they deserved to be dead. So for it to not even hit yellow was a problem. And so she would get low right beside Sey before charging forward, the player following up right after. The shark would retaliate in turn, bringing up it's claws before aiming to slam down the both of them. This wasn't something that he could allow to happen, so he would proceed to raise his arms in an X-cross. The claws missed, making the attack blunt against his arms, so he managed to take all of the damage before Kyu aimed to get her shots in. Of course, what would a good story be without an ending, but this one wasn't the happiest. The land shark roared, loud shockwaves sent to cause her body to fly against the ground. It seems they hit a stalemate, the snow wolf was not enjoying this.

Now it seems like Sey was trying to push past the shark this time, sliding down against the sand under it's... Legs? Yup, apparently. Regardless, he would slip on by successfully before placing his arm against the surface, then lifting himself back up onto his feet. The monster proceeded to turn around in response since Sey seemed to be the target with the most hate. Still, he would proceed to aim for a quick powerful strike to the back of his target to try and knock it down, but it's arm swung wildly in order to counter with an attack of it's own. So instead of using the attack in order to inflict damage, he found himself bouncing off of the arm of the boss monster, flipping wildly throughout the air before landing back on the ground, though he had to hold his right palm against the ground to do so. This was one slippery monster.

It looks like he managed to slowly recover from the one brutal impact from before, perfect. Now he just had to finish this job. The movements were becoming easier to read. The shark decided to take a shot at him, charging quickly in the sudden assault mode provided before aiming a quick right fist. Certainly not something to block, but he was capable of evading attacks. And so he would narrowly do that, stepping neatly to the side at what seemed to be the perfect time. It was luck and a bit of miscalculation, but he managed to avoid a nice knuckle sandwich. Barely. Barely was enough at this point, for that almost meant he barely obtained no damage. It was like a parry, for there was an opening! He placed his fists up before jumping up again before slamming his fists down onto the top of the head of the enemy, knocking it down to the red zone.

Was there another phase for him to brace for? If there was, it wasn't doing anything to him. With this high damage inflicted, he expected a raid-wise AoE attack to be caused, perhaps a massive tankbuster or even a debuff that would force a switch. But the assault mode seemed to be the most threatening thing, and the programming seemed to not allow it today. Now that also meant that he was swinging at dead air, reckless fists aiming for what he hoped would be a strike, then ending up biting particles of sand instead. The monster was swift, but how long could it's fast actions hold up? So he would step lightly with his eyes glaring at his target, arms loosely held out by his sides. Kyu seemed to be walking around aimlessly during the action, not really so interested in a foe that was in the red, being more a beacon for his damage infliction instead.

The shark was taking no prisoners with it's last attempt, and Sey wsa ready for another trade-off. It would aim a quick massive slam against his body, Sey just embracing the danger without any mitigation to keep his health from being terribly threatened. Another fifth of his health would shatter from the bar, but his fist was held out to meet the gut of the boss monster in turn. With the one punch set, the impact of the fist would drill into the gut of the monster before causing it to shatter to pieces of data. Little particles would splatter across the ground before a small "Congratulations" sign appeared right above it. A nice little message since the last two signs he saw were red, alerting him that he took critical damage. Fortunately, nothing that his body couldn't heal through, and his body would heal past the damage in no time. Looks like he just gained another level.

Nothing else happened. No adds or anything for him to combat, leaving him to combat against himself instead. Alone in the middle of the desert with his fists wrapped with airy wraps. Seems like a fitting kingdom for him at the moment, for he was lost and unsure about what to do next. Sure, there were the finances, but there was not much he could do with those. With all the chaos that was happening, one would expect him to be happy to be away from the rest of the game. Yet upon arrival, there was more backstabbing and lies being spread around the place, the progression of the game was steady at best, and he was just there to soak it all in as he felt the one person he knew begin to slip away from him. Mentally, emotionally, and physically if he can't figure this stupid impossible puzzle out. The blood would be on his hands, and that was not the blood he wanted anywhere near him. The grains of sand continued to hiss.

"Man, you do stress a lot Semato. Did father not teach you a thing?" A voice would address, familiar enough for Sey's eyes to shift as he heard them, but not go on alert. No no, there was no way, that voice was faaaaar too familiar for him to accept as real. A hallucination effect in game perhaps? But that theory would soon be debunked when a sudden Ax was swung towards him from behind. It was a miracle that his stats were high enough to recognize the ax swinging down onto him. Turning around, he would see a somewhat familiar figure, but the game modified character's appearances based on their progress. Still, there was no doubt that this person was one that he knew very well. So many questions, but that didn't matter, for an ax was swung against him. For that, he raised his fists, though shaking from the fact that he was being attacked by the one figure he wouldn't have expected to attack him. "Leru..." That was his name all right. And he seemed surprisingly calm considering he raised his weapon at his own brother. Looks like any happy surprise won't be happening, out of all the ways to meet each other in-game.

"If you want to live at the end of this, you better be ready to roll the dice. Feeling lucky?" Leru taunted, knowing full well how this was going to end. Looking at that pathetic equipment, his brother truly has gotten soft. He could have been a top tier player if he wasn't such a softened player, and who could have done this to him? Yukino's were not supposed to be that weak, the difference between him and his little brother were just too large. But his little brother didn't possess the gear or the level to fight Leru, this was a lesson after all. The only way for him to win  was for the game's system to favor him. No one has been so lucky.

Just like Leru suggested, it was time to roll the dice.

Sey would raise his fists, knowing that he likely won't be getting out of this one. That equipment looked so brutal, but he had to try! After all he has done before, it would have been the worst to let all of his hard work go to waste. His own brother threatened his life though, now that stung like all hell. "Not a welcome or a greeting when a man is at his worst. I regret calling you my brother if this is what you've become!" Did he not have enough troubles as it is? This was nothing he needed in his life. At least he didn't possess hesitation, getting up close to his brother before pushing through the spikes in order to get a nice red critical sign above his head, the signature of the Yukino family. Luck.

"Looks like you're salvageable after all. Good." Leru commented before raising his axe over his head so quickly. Sey has speed, but not that level of speed. "But it's nowhere near enough!" And upon slamming the blade down, the desert seemed to implode from the sheer force of the impact. It was devastating enough to send Sey absolutely flying, not even flipping. His body would slam against the ground as his health went into the yellow. On top of that, three new status effects were threatening his health bar in the process. Critical hit as well. What a lucky family.

"W-Why..."

"Now I do wonder whether or not you remember the real world so much." Leru commented before flicking his finger over the menu to unequip what he had on him currently. Any effects that came with the equipment would immediately vanish, leaving Sey to finally have his health recover. The sweet relief of not being killed was bliss, Sey could finally relax after that hell he just took. Leru had very... Unusual ways of interacting with him, but it wasn't like he didn't retaliate with similar behavior. Still, such a mighty attack was so mean. "Leru... That wasn't funny, I really didn't need that... How did you get in the game!? Where were you this whole time!?" Sey asked, clenching his fists, though not so sure about what he could do now. At this point, he did need something to take comfort in. Leru would just place his hands in his pockets while scanning his brother's face. "Like how everyone else did. I planned to see you earlier, but then you kind of hopped off the face of the game. And now that I have seen what you've been doing recently..."

  • 3 months later...

"So what? What would you know about it?" Sey retorted, addressing the very last part of what Leru was saying. But taking a closer look at the equipment he had... It seemed different. It wasn't like the typical item you would obtain from the floor boss drops. Not that he participated in those, but they were different. The numbers implied that Leru went through a lot to obtain them as well. He couldn't help but wonder how he managed to get the strength he did, especially since that pretty axe of his didn't do the most damage on it's own compared to his fists. Yet with the same result, he was nearly knocked to hell. "Are you really unsure and confused? Are you really that daft, my little brother? Or perhaps you are just conveniently forgetting." The elder brother asked with a hand placed below his chin and the tilt of the head. His words managed to find a way to push the wrong buttons no matter what.

"Answer me you equally British ******* before I kick the bloody hell out of you!" Sey threatened, his health finally recovering back to the original position. But that could easily be changed and the both of them knew it. If anything, he was not in the position to be making any form of threat such as that, but he was also not in the most logical mood either. It was as simple as this, he wasn't enjoying his current situation and his brother was pissing him off. It wasn't much for one to grasp. "Come on, brother. Your numbers are much higher than mine, yet look at what just happened. I am sure you know what would happen if you attempt to raise a finger at me." Hands in his pockets, the numbers seemed as baseless as ever. When the equipment comes out, they increase to such dangerous heights that one should not touch if they desired another living breath. "Just tell me, you leech..."

"No worries, cockroach. Old brother Leru is here to enlighten you~." Another taunting tone trailing to tip the temper of a tired brother. Alliteration, the way Leru intended to play with words the same way he played with emotions. Genuinely, it was nice to see such a young brother of his grow in numbers the fair way. Yet at the same time, it bothered him a slight bit to not see him participate on the higher floor bosses. In fact, it pissed him off, and feigning a smile such as this wasn't going to last long. "You really think a player of your level wouldn't have word being spread about them? Perhaps your shop had something to do with spreading that words? Come on, Sey. Do you not remember father at all? It's as if you suddenly lost him." And that was all the explanation that was needed, for it did make sense. Sey was not in the most correct frame of mind as of late, so it all made sense without a piece of story to attempt to analyze.

"Glad to know I attract good beings and dumpster fires like you. Piss off, I thought you'd be a lot more welcoming."  Sey would attempt to turn himself around and walk away from the scene. However, the instant shift that Leru's face forced him to stay still, it signaled that something was bound to follow. Okay, this better be good or else Sey will actually take the grand exit towards the right. "I know you wouldn't take the fall after a mere hit, no matter my strength. You really think I would kill me own brother?" Leru explained before continuing, lot even giving the boy a chance to speak. "You think you know what real danger is? To be scared is nothing, I threatened you to the point where you would lose your health and did you think about the things in your head by then? Or maybe, just maybe... Maybe you were concerned more about keeping that health bar above that halfway point."

"It's not that simple, you idiot!" Sey protested, wind coursing from outside of his body as he felt the urge to strike again. But maybe Leru didn't know of the situation well enough. Then again, if he really heard this much about his brother, then he must have heard about... Wait... Ohhhhhhhhh. "You really think I don't know about her? Come on, dear brother. Your answer is simple!" Raising up the axe from his inventory, he would point it over to the tip of Sey's nose with a simple slash of the blade. In turn for this, Sey just stood still. It was said before, his brother was not going to hurt him, there was simply nothing to fear. "Get strong. So strong that no one is capable of taking anything away from you. If someone threatened your life, simply kill them if you are strong enough. Or let them if you are too weak and desire to live. But if you wish to live as carefree as I do and protect everything you love... I better see your ass get in those floor bosses."

"Floor bosses? You really think I can obtain an item from such a thing? Seriously?" It was true, considering his strength compared to those who have topped the tiers, getting something like that would be a mercy for him. The last hit was a difficult thing to get since everyone was going for it. But it was as simple as this. The progress to get there would require him to level up even further. He may have a "high" level right now, but it was nowhere near enough if he wanted to keep everything he loved from going to hell and back. Perhaps he could pick up a different weapon with a different purpose yet again, but then there would be a problem, he was losing his money consistently changing his purpose. No, he needed to stick with what he had and refuse to change it. If there is any hope in obtaining something, it was to stick to the one plan he had. Deal as much damage as humanly possible.

"Meet me on floor four tomorrow. It's a favorite in our family." Leru would explain before turning away with a smirk, knowing full well what he just said. And Sey was not going to let it go from earshot so easily. "I'm sorry, did you just say our family?" If that was the case... What... What!? No way, that was not possible. It was impossible enough for Leru to be someone in the game in the first place. But now this? It was like a miracle and a curse at the same time. Yet... He just wanted to obtain the strength to protect what he loved. So if he had to rely on them for such a thing, then he'll be damned if he did something different. "I am going to help you a bit overall. You certainly look like you could use it. And once we manage to do that, I expect you to be grinding out the levels until you reach the maximum. Then you enter the gear grind. If someone wants to kill you, don't be afraid to take every bit of loot they possess. I will be waiting for you.

And then he left.
