[PP-02] Beyond Redemption w/ Pinball

Recommended Posts

Didja' ever wonder what would happen if you never met someone? Yeah, Kirbs did. Her life would be so much damn easier if she hadn't met a couple certain people. She wouldn't have gone so much damn pain if she hadn't ever met Bell, but the same goes for that bastard, Pinball. In all of the times she had spent with him, she never enjoyed any of it. First time, he bloody stunned her. Second time, he cut her friend's bloody arm off. Third time... he might've saved her life the third time she saw him, but that all went down the frekin' drain when she found out that he murdered Bell.

That bastard couldn't have made her life any frekin' worse, right?

Wrong.

Every time she even thought about him, it made her want to kill him even more! She wanted that, right? She wanted to see her best friend's murderer go down to the pits of effing' hell, right?

Damn right she did.

The silent redhead made her way out of town as she stalked silently to the barren fields just outside of the walls. It was here, she was sure of it. It was here that she first met that sad excuse for a human. Why was she so calm around him? She hated it. She hated being reminded that she had once acted so casually around a murderer. Around her friend's murderer.

@Pinball

He'd watched her come. Watching from the shadows, following her violent march through the all-but-deserted Second Floor. It wasn't often that people came here. It felt like the only people that did come through the open fields and rocky mountains were the rare new player that happened to muster up enough courage to leave their safety behind. Their aspirations were always the same. They wanted to grind their way to the top! To join the frontliners and help assist in the war against the Floor Bosses!

She had been one of those people. He remembered it. He remembered her, weak and alone, and he saw her now, strong and angry. She had been tainted; touched by corruption and ruined by sinful ambition. Corrupted. She was corrupted, like so many others before her and so many others to come.

And she should never have left the Town of Beginnings.

She stopped.  Pinball flanked her and drifted into her view, waves of smooth shadow dispersing and revealing his once shrouded form. What were usually tired, half-closed eyes were almost comically wide open, locked on to the girl in front of him.

"What are you looking for?"

Kirbs' form immediately stiffened as she heard such a bitter cold but familiar voice. The murderer. The person she's been trying to find for God knows how long.

Wet tears welled up in her eyes as she felt so many emotions come to her at once. She felt dizzy. Was he really here? Was she hallucinating again? Was she really face to face with Bell's killer? She stared at him in disbelief. He looked insane. Completely and utterly insane. She hated it. She hated the way he looked at her. She hated the way he talked. She hated everything about this bastard.

She took slow and stiff steps towards him and suddenly felt a large ball of ice form in the pit of her stomach. It was really him. He was in front of her. The damn boy she''s been wanting to kill for weeks. She planned this. All those bloody papers stacked on her desk. The plans. She planned for everything. What she was going to do and how she was going to do it to assure justice for her lost friend... but that seemed to be thrown out the window when she stared into the cold blue eyes of the killer.

"You-" her voice cracked, the water works now really getting to her. "-you don't look remorseful at all. Y-you sick bastard!" She suddenly screamed, grabbing onto his collar with malice. "You ruined my damn life! I hate you!" She seethed, her eyes full of hatred and fury. "You-you, you killed him! You bloody killed him and you don't look [no no word]-ing guilty at all!" How could such a monster be formed into such a young person?

Pinball's expression remained absolutely deadpan. There was no flicker of understanding in his eyes, and those cold, empty pits of icy blue held no signs of remorse.

It was like Kirbs was staring into the face of a dead man.

Still, the passionate words that escaped from the redhead's mouth, powerfully tumbling off her tongue, incited what was a spark of curiosity in the teenager's mind. Who had he killed? He had only killed one person. Or had he killed two? Three? Five? Ten? He couldn't trust his memory. Dreams and real life blended together these days. Uncomfortably slow. Who was he to assume he was completely innocent? Was he not a murderer? Out of his mind? Absolutely and entirely beyond redemption? One of these days he would walk himself off the edge of Aincrad and he wouldn't remember it; dead to the world and dead in his head and dead to the people who had loved him.

For a reason he himself couldn't even comprehend, a smile crept across his face.

"Who?"

She felt sick.

"Who?" She repeated, her eyes turning watery again. "Who?!" Kirbs screamed, her voice cracking again. "My best friend, that's who!" She let go of his collar and felt her chest rise and fall heavily. Her blurry vision focused on his eyes. They were so blank, like some kind of frekin' doll.

"Y-you don't even remember, do you?!" She sobbed, feeling so damn weak. He doesn't even remember killing her best friend? "You son of a [female doggo]," she choked out, gripping her head tightly. How was she going to avenge her best friend's killer if he didn't even remember killing him? She wanted to make him suffer. She wanted to make him feel all the damn pain she had to feel. How the hell was she going to do that if he doesn't bloody remember killing him in the first place?

"Wipe that smile off your damn face," she whispered, tears leaking out of their sockets. "Wipe that smile off of your stupid face. You killed Bell. I'm never going to see him again, all because of you, you, you-" she muttered, her vision getting blurry again. "I'm never going to see my best friend again," she repeated, choking on the tight knot in her throat.

Pinball watched her break down in front of him, tears running down her face like raindrops down a window pane.

Oh, shut up.

Had he killed someone? For some reason, he didn't find it completely unbelievable. And even weirder, he didn't feel remorseful at all. Was it just him, or had it gotten a lot easier? It felt like he didn't even care anymore.

He didn't even care.

He didn't even care! He didn't feel bad about it! As a matter of fact, he couldn't feel anything at all!

Pinball smiled wider, surely much to the chagrin of Kirbs. He drew his sword in an instant, gold and silver flashing in the moonlight. He let her sob just a bit longer before lifting his sword up to her chin. If she looked up, she'd see the refraction of light in his sword and his face stretching into a sickening smile.

"Do you wanna see him again?"

Black flame licked at his form, consuming his avatar, and he vanisheed, leaving Kirbs alone in the dark.

Her breath hitched in her throat as her gaze slowly trailed up the sword, and then to that damn smile. It made her want to bloody puke. How could he be smiling? Why was he smiling? Did he enjoy watching her suffer like this?

"Y-you damn bastard," she muttered lowly-- just right before he vanished into the darkness. Darkness. When did it get so dark?

She stumbled back, her breathing suddenly becoming sporadic. "S-show yourself! Y-you damn coward!" She yelled, although much of it coming out as a meek squeak.

It was dark. Everywhere. It was dark everywhere. She suddenly felt like she couldn't breath. She needed to get out. Out, out, out! She couldn't stay here! She stumbled around, one hand pressed on her hand and the other loosely gripping on her spear. Her whole body felt like jell-o. Kirbs hasn't felt this weak in so long. Why, why, why? She thought she had gotten over this fear!

Her eyes were wide with fear as she looked around the darkness. They were going to come for her. All the damn monsters she thought about as a kid. They were coming. More unshed tears pricked at her eyes as she felt her knees go weak. "Go away, go away!"
