MEPHISTO

Oh what a wicked web we weave
 Lives and fates ever intertwined
What a wicked web we leave
 Abandoned threads far behind
Won't you come weave with me?

Arthur Gallard29 Male  6'3" (190.5cm)

HISTORY
Arthur Gallard was the first born of two brothers. His parents hadn't intended to have him - an accident, that led to a shotgun wedding. And both of them resented him for it as he grew up. For his young life all he knew was isolation, just barely avoiding actual physical abuse once he got old enough to read the signs from his parents. He tries his best not to remember before then. But he did grow up - learning that he had to be vicious to survive in the places where his parents, two 'scum of the earth' type people, chose to live and get their fixes. That all changed when his parents made another accident, another mistake - and the light in Arthur's life came to be.

A bright, smiling baby, who cooed at Arthur whenever he saw him. The now young teen swore that he would protect that baby no matter what, protect the love and smile on that face. And the first obstacle in his way was the ones who had condemned him to the life of misery and loneliness that he had known for so long. And so Arthur grew quieter, more inwardly focused as he applied the vicious drive to survive to figuring out how to save his light from that fate. He became colder, 'lost' some of his viciousness as he focused less on himself and more for providing for his brother - he knew the drug-addled wastes of skin that were their biological parents would never be able to.

When the knock came on their door one morning, after their parents had been out all night - Arthur was unsurprised by the barely apologetic explanation that a drug trade had gone wrong, and that now he and his brother were going to be placed into the state's care. He'd known this was a possibility when he set to work though, and had already handled it. He provided the unconcerned officer with paperwork (expertly falsified) stating that an elder cousin would need to be contacted. He'd fallen out of touch you see, and hard, and that's why the state didn't know about him -but Arthur's mother, bless her heart, had remembered him and told Arthur about him in case something happened. With a shrug the overworked and underpaid officer left.
And thus began the best time in Arthur's life. His world was focused on his younger brother, watching him grow from toddler to young boy, to a young teen himself as Arthur entered adulthood. Arthur kept the two of them going, cultivating a network of contacts and resources that kept them out of the official eye in terms of their guardianship, until he was old enough to take over fully himself. That this network was started with the life insurance money he'd taken out on his parents without their knowledge, and the last of their stashed drugs - well, that was just between him and his contacts. No need to worry his darling brother about any of that.

And if sometimes someone got to a point where they might threaten his brother - well, Arthur fixed that, too.

And then his brother his precious, beloved younger brother reached fifteen, and showed interest in a new game coming out. He was too young for the game of course, but that kind of consideration didn't even slow Arthur down - legality was a superfluous thing to him already. What did hold him back was making sure this game was safe for his brother to play. So he logged in - and then couldn't log out, as someone spoke to him of a death game. A death game that had nearly captured his beloved brother.

The veneer cracked.

Arthur doesn't remember much of his time after the reveal. He was lost to a red fury that kept him near immobile - he would start to do something, and the fact that his precious sibling was nearly in this danger would drive him into a rage that kept him locked up, barely able to move. It took time to recover, longer because he would then alternate to worry about his brother - and getting angry that someone else must be helping his brother when he couldn't.

Now though - he wants out.

ABOUT

Mephisto is a sly, calculating man who has only one goal - get out of Aincrad, back to his brother. While he does have feelings and can develop empathy - it is a damaged trait, and more likely than not he will use emotions and feelings as one more tool to get his way.

But because escape is so unlikely in the short term, a darker, crueler side of his psyche has emerged as he vents his feelings of impotency and rage. While he has not killed another player or NPC, some of that may simply have been a lack of an appropriate situation. He is primarily a self-centered man, if it doesn't affect him he will find it hard to care, unless he sees a way to use it to pull the strings of those around him.

Small text Quote I will put in here later Maybe Theme Song?

✣LOYAL✣
Mephisto's loyalty is insanely hard to get - first getting through his focus in himself and his brother and then proving worth and value and trust. But if done, it is almost entirely unshakable. He won't just die for those he is loyal to - he will kill with a smile on his face and a song in his heart. Small things like being a PKer (either himself or the person who has somehow garnered his loyalty) won't matter to him in the slightest, since it never stopped him before.

✣DRIVEN✣
Mephisto is a dedicated, long term worker. He sets or chooses a goal and begins working to it, with very little able to distract him. While he may not be able to accomplish his goal immediately, he will remember and keep working towards it even when others may have forgotten. While he can be swayed in the short term, he will consistently return until he has achieved what he set out to do.

HONEST

Mephisto has a problem. He detests and despises liers. He will twist the truth for his own benefit, he will obscure and befuddled - but if he tells you something, it will never be false to the best of his knowledge. He may leave things unstated, allowing listeners to draw their own conclusions, but never will he outright lie. The best way of questioning him is yes or no questions - if you keep the wording careful.

✣SELF-CENTERED✣
Within the world Aincrad, the only person that matters to Mephisto, is Mephisto. Other people's worth is valued entirely by how much they can offer him, or be manipulated by him. He finds it difficult to connect with others - and even more difficult to even want to make that connection. Those around him are tools to whet his urges or to further escape.

✣PRIDE✣
Mephisto clawed a life for himself and his younger brother from the slums and gutters of his birth. Where others failed and fell further into that lifestyle he was able to succeed and thrive -  this has left him a deeply proud man for emerging victorious. The opinions of others matter little to him and he does not see the things he does as wrong, and receives slights very poorly, often triggering aggressive responses from him far in excess of what incited his anger.

VICIOUS

Pain is one of Mephisto's favorite tools. While implementing physical pain has become much harder now, in this death game where sensations are deadened, emotional and mental trauma are still fair game. He is a cruel man, and enjoys hurting others if he sees even a slight reason to. While he won't initiate without justification, it takes very little provocation to make him lash out.
