Upon seeing Mari's attack find its mark, Oscar was able to breathe easier knowing that the lowbies wouldn't be running the risk of getting mauled by the lionesses. With that not serving as a distraction, he found himself able to focus solely on the fight. The lionesses were fast and agile, but then again, so was Oscar. He danced out of the way of their slashing claws, dipping through their crushing fangs, and came out on the other side unharmed. It also helped that he only had two of them to worry about. He cast a sideways glance towards Mari, making sure that she was holding up well. A faint wisp of a smile tugged at the corner of his mouth when he saw that she had successfully evaded her lioness as well.

Now, it was time to go on the offensive. His efforts to dodge had placed him a few paces away from the group. He pivoted to the right, spinning Tesseleth's Fury back up into ready position. Pushing off of his back foot, Oscar dashed forward and quickly closed the gap. He brought his axe down low, swinging in a wide arc. As he delivered his Sword Art, Tesseleth's Fury took on an ominous, smoky aura. A critical hit dispatched one of the lionesses, but the final one was brought low with a powerful Fallen proc. Overkill, but Oscar wasn't complaining. To his chagrin, one of the lionesses still managed to evade him. He would need to leave that one up to Mari.

"So much better than the King. Being immune to status effects is one hell of a passive. Gonna have to let you wrap up here!"

Knowing Yuki could tank at least one hit from the lionesses made Mari feel a little better; at least she could survive, worst case scenario. Mari knew she shouldn't be so concerned - but she couldn't help it. Not when so many people had died in front of her, and not when time and time again Yuki had shown that her over zealousness could put her in very real danger. Mari doubted any of her woulds would reach the pink haired woman - worried blue eyes flitted over to Shiina - not quite the same for her. Come to think of it How was she even on this floor? If Mari and Oscar weren't here - Shiina would have ran into the Lionesses on her own, and be good as dead.

Oscar at least made quick work of the Lionesses- leaving one poor limping one behind. "You almost feel bad..." Mari said quietly to herself as she flipped the dagger into a reverse grip and kicked off to charge at the final lioness. With a few precise strikes she was down. Burst in an array of data.

"From what I remember...we gotta fight a few more of them along with the big bad boss, right?" Mari asked Oscar. He was the one with the information after all. She turned her gaze to the other two.

"You two holding up okay?"

Yuki kept her shield ready. Shiina was latching on to her back practically, something her younger sister did when she stood up to her bullies for her. She turned back to the smaller girl, ensuring that she was alright only to hear her cheering the two tier three players on. The both of them made quick work of the lionesses, and while Yuki wanted to relax, she couldn't. There was no all clear given by either of the players, so there was likely still danger, and Mari's comment only made that hunch true.

"We're fine, Mari! Focus on what you are doing, we'll be okay." The paladin called out. She was worried that Mari's mind was on them way too much. If she worried too much, she would screw something up and then they might really be in danger. "Mari, I'm telling you we'll alright. I'm not moving from this spot unless I have to teleport out. Focus on the battle." Her words tried to be reassuring.

Watching in awe as the pair easily made short work of the hulking beasts, without sustaining a single scratch "You guys are stupid strong!" Shiina shouts before it devolves into unintelligible words coined to a reenactment of combat with included hand motions. "Tallboy be like Eat my chimney stick!"

"Boosh~"

"Then it was all. NOPE and Mari were like you get back here and yoink she poked its butt." Shiina was enjoying the show in her own way, before Mari expressed some concern. "I am just going to turtle in here, you get them, Mari and Oscar I'll just be here in Yuki's behind. I won't get ate, I hope." Shiina cheered elated while shadowboxing with a false glare painted on her face, pumped from the power the players had portrayed, something she could never do. She was content with hiding behind Yuki's shield wearing her steamy hot garbage armor and believing in the pair's ability to protect her.

Oscar let out an audible sigh of relief, slumping forward as the last lioness was slain. In his head, he knew that he and Mari had this handled. Also in his head there was a small voice asking him what he would do if it went sideways? Through the combat, it needled him. Death by a thousand cuts. The rational part of his brain quickly began to get overwhelmed by the baseless anxiety. His confident mask slipped for a moment. Thankfully, he had his back to everyone. As quickly as it had faded, it was back. He corrected his posture and allowed a slight smile to creep over his features again. They weren't out of the woods yet. It was Absolute Zero all over again. This time, however, Oscar couldn't rely on Bahr to come screaming out of the ether again.

Oscar turned just in time to witness Shiina's re-enacting of the fight. There was just something about the petite girl gushing over it all that Oscar found incredibly amusing. He opened his mouth to speak when a shattering roar cut through their jovial celebration. It seemed to shake the very ground they stood on. Oscar wheeled around again. Another trio of Lionesses, this time accompanied by an absolutely massive male. The Nemean Lion, clearly. He really didn't even to look at the name next to the health bar for that fact to sink in. After all, a lion the size of a tank rather speaks for itself.

Oscar spun Tesseleth's Fury into a ready position. The needling grew louder in the back of head. He couldn't exactly fight with only half of his brain focused on the task at hand. He took a breath and closed his eyes. Using every ounce of his willpower, he silenced the noise and cleared the mechanism. It was like flipping a switch. He dashed off without warning, Tesseleth's Fury erupting in a blaze of ebony. He stopped in the midst of the pride and swung with all of his might. He swore under his breath when two of the lionesses hopped back away from the attack. The words he'd said to Cordelia not to long ago echoed in his head. Sometimes it be like that. A minor setback was all it was. At the very least, he'd established hate and brought one of the lionesses to death's door.

"Dammit." Mari grit her teeth. "This is why I didn't want them to come." Mari muttered. "Even with us two - there is still that one lioness." Mari said, pointing to the lioness that was slowly stalking back and forth, beady black eyes regarding the four players. "There is a very, very real chance Shiina can die, and Yuki can very easily be badly hurt."   Mari turned to glance at Shiina. "This. Is why You should not be on this floor."  Her words seemed harsh, but they came from a place of truth - a place of past experiences. She had seen people die in situations like this, in situations that were stacked more in the players favor than this.

Mari did not like the situation one bit. She didn't like the brash nature of Oscar and how he just agreed and promised that it'd be fine. When it clearly may very well not be fine. Mari slapped her face in frustration. "This is why I hate situations like this.." Mari said. She couldn't really blame anyone here, could she?

She should have fought more to keep Yuki and Shiina away. But Yuki was far too headstrong to listen to reason - Mari knew there was no real way stop her once she set her mind to something. Yuki would have joined come hell or high water. Shiina - Mari didn't know her, but from her earnest and childish reactions. Mari figured she was young. Far too young to be traipsing around up here. Did she even know the danger she was in? 

Mari used her anger to propel her forward, activating both her charge skill and the <<Eternal Cyclone>> As she used her dagger to tear through the side of the fourth lioness - it growled in pain, a high pitched noise that turned into a warble as both bleed and burn appeared above its head - not only that but Mari had dealt a critical hit. Good. Good. 

It was one less thing she had to worry about.

The dagger user had stopped one of the Lionesses thankfully, but the remaining one was still prowling around looking for which one of the enemies to bite at next.

"You can take a hit."

Her mind try to persuade her. Was it worth a shot? If she didn't die to the lie, she would almost absolutely die to Mari's inevitable post-fight wrath. This was her calling. Being put in rough situations and barely making it out by the skin of her teeth. She would have to. If she didn't, there was a chance that this little girl behind her was going to die to Lioness. After immense struggling to keep her feet rooted, the paladin broke. She gave Shiina a firm, serious glance and looked her directly in the eyes.

"Do not move from this spot." She said as she turned and entered the battle. Mari was going to hate her for this, but all she had to do was make an attack. The paladin rushed past Mari and the Lion she was fighting and into the remaining Lion that yet to pull aggro from any one. Her first clinched, she delivered the most fierce haymaker she could must. Without wasting any time, she called out to Oscar backing away from the Lion with her shield raised in defense.

"Oscar! Switch!"

Shiina squeals for a moment as Yuki takes to an opposing force of that which was charging straight at them. A reflex Shiina casts the green pulse with her voice as Yuki departs, it wasn't her intention and it does nothing. Now standing in the open, Shiina slides as quietly as she can to a nearby stone disappearing behind it. Looking over the rock Shiina yells on her tiptoes "Get um good! Pow right in the kisser!" trying her best to do as she was told by the group and stay out of it.

Shiina uses First Aid on Yuki! (+8 HP)

The pack climbs from behind Oscar as the cardinal asserts its threatening of the party with a much larger beast in tow, clad in tanned fur with a roar as that of its pack scatter in all directions. Two instantly focus toward Oscar, the large maned beast lashes out with a hefty scrape against the axe wielders back and with it a small status symbol. The other of the pair tries its best to crush him in between them, but with deft action Oscar is unscathed. Screaming past the second two aim for the rest of the bunch, Mari routing one in a show of strength before it returns the favor before it erupts in a trail of fire scorching some fur from its back, languishing and slowing as a black ooze begins to pour from its jaws. One makes it through the defenses and with a powerful blow to its snout, a feral snarl as it retreats and sizes up its opponent, aiming for another bite.

"Got it!" Oscar exclaimed. He rushed forward, swinging Tesseleth's Fury with all of his might. Oscar was kicking himself for bringing Yuki and Shiina into this. All it had taken was two unlucky misses and here Yuki was, forced to risk her neck. So much for an easy quest. As he swung his weapon, Oscar could only pray that his attack found its mark. He really didn't have any plans in order in the event that it didn't. Yuki would be forced to go another turn with the Lioness's aggro. With some rough math, he figured that she was able to take one hit, but that would put her dangerously close to death. So everything was riding on this one attack.

Tesseleth's Fury struck the group of lions. He watched as one of the Lionesses flailed its claws in Yuki's general direction but was unable to find purchase on the budding tank. He cut through the group - missing only one of the female lions in the process - killing one of them. The Switch had been a success. Oscar had drawn the ire of the Lion and one of its brides. "Alright Yuki, fall ba-" He was cut short by the Lion casually batting him off to the side. He tumbled for a few feet before coming to a stop rather abruptly by slamming his back into a tree trunk. The pain suppressors kept him from feeling too much of it - a mere numb tingling along his spine. He winced and slowly rose to his feet. "Alright, I deserved that one," he said as he reached back on reflex to massage his back. One of the Lionesses had broken off and was dancing with Mari. It had managed to land a nasty bite on the dagger-wielder. He felt like a jerk, but honestly better her than one of the lowbies. It was very difficult for these enemies to kill either of them. At least they could breathe easy for the moment.

Her battle healing ticked back up, healing most of the bleed damage. Mari exhaled. Thankful she had picked it up along the way. She still had bleed damage, but she'd be able to take it, plus another few solid hits from the lions before it became an issue.

Mari winced as Oscar was berated by the giant Lion. "Oof..." That ...had to hurt. Still. Better it were him than the others. Mari turned to Yuki, concern lining her facial features - Yuki had to take some of the hate - and whilst she had switched with Oscar, Mari was still concerned. "Hey, you okay?" Mari called out to Yuki. The attack had missed, thankfully. Sure, Yuki seemed bullheaded and strong - but such a scare, was she okay? Mari reminded herself to check in on Yuki later. Sure, she was frustrated as all hell with the woman - but that didn't mean that Mari wanted to see her hurt. She wasn't a monster.

For now....

"I'm goin' for the big boy." Mari called out to Oscar. "I'll whittle down the enemy with the most health - so you can swoop in with an AoE- then I'll try to take care of any stragglers. I'm still able to charge a few of 'em too - which should stun them!"

Mari did just that, sprinting forth she pushed one of the lionesses out the way as she charged toward her target. With her blade held in a reverse grip Mari pirouetted after the first strike against the lion. She span on the ball of her heel and tore into its torso - then with the forward momentum she was able to swing back and tear through the other side of the mighty jungle king.

The attack had devastated the lion. He took a shaky step forward before he gave a weak growl, akin to a mewl from a newborn kitten before his legs gave way beneath him and he thudded to the ground. Three status effects popped up over his head. <<Bleed | Burn| Stun| >>  Mari felt a swell of pride within her chest. Her attacks were meager at best, but where she really shined? That DoT? That's when it decimated enemies like this. Practically incapacitated - it'd loose enough health to hopefully fall once Oscar attacked again.

"Gettin' pretty lucky today." Mari noted.

Yuki backed off as quickly as she could manage. The adrenaline pumping through that ballsy punch was already wearing off pretty quickly. If she hadn't done that, Shiina could have been at risk of dying to the Lionesses claws and she refused to let anyone die when they stood behind her shield. That being said, she was also pretty terrified of dying herself, no matter how much she played it off like she wasn't scared.

She fell to her rear end back to Shiina when she made it back, clutching her shield in her lap and watching Mari completely demolish her Lion. The sound of her voice barely reached the paladin, who's mind was a thousand miles a second right now. "I-I, uh... I'm fine. Focus on your...uh, your fight Mari-chan." Yuki took a moment to try and clear her thoughts looking down at the ground to help her focus on moving things off her mind. It was obvious that she was a little shaken up in the moment.

A screaming yowl turns more agitated as it tries for Yuki's throat but before it can land its attack a cleaving battle axe of blackened smoke tears into its back, setting it ablaze with the scorching of its fur to black. Yuki rushes back from the life or death experience, visibly shaken from the experience. "Your ok, shield turtle. I gotcha. You bopped it good and now you're safe." Shiina wasn't sure too much about the specifics and hits Yuki with a deliberate heal this time. Tapping Yuki's shoulder with a green glow, Shiina stands "We good, you get them hard!" While the large lion eyeballs Oscar with his back turned toward it and a sudden look to the short stack yelling at the fray. Its eyes narrow in anger, Shiina exclaims "Uh oh~" lowering her raised fist in a cheer of Oscar turning to a point. This is before Mari slams hard into its side, "Take that big cat boi, get a dead dude." As its large head shifts toward Mari as it collapses after a few steps forward.

Shiina uses First Aid on Yuki! (+8 HP)

A subtle whine as a black ooze pours from its wounds, heat from the blow accentuating the pain as it struggles to stand from the impact. The lion cannot find its footing as it attempts to stare down both of its aggressors. Moving to its sides are its kin, growling and lapping the mane of their king before a sudden shift to the higher level players with a rapid dilation of pupils with intentions. A slow step toward them each, growling in fury and defense of their patriarch they lunge in unison to both Mari and Oscar being left unscathed in the leap. The smoke built upon its frame from Tesseleth's Fury sparks and scorches off a large section of its skin as the same from Kusanagi actively procs and leaves the Nemean Lion in a mirrored agony.

"Nice one Mari!" Oscar exclaimed. Her focusing on the Lion did two things. First, and perhaps most importantly, it brought the Lion within range to get cleaved down with a final AoE. Second, it brought the lioness that had broken off from the pack back into the fold, also putting it in range to get caught in Oscar's attack. In a single blow, Oscar was poised to put this fight to an end. While the newbies were completely safe at this point, Oscar wouldn't be able to breathe easily until this whole ordeal was done. Smoke began to emanate from the blade of his weapon, ink-black miasma leaving a tenebrous echo in the air as it spun up into a ready position. Oscar pushed off of the ground, dashing off back into the fray. A dark blur against the savanna, Oscar summoned up his strength and tapped almost the very last of his Energy reserves.

Then, he swung in.

From deep within his weapon, dark shafts of radiance burst outward. Mingled with the glow of his activating Sword Art, the darkness enshrouded the blade of his axe as he cleaved through the remaining Lionesses. On contact with Tesseleth's Fury's deadly edge, the Lionesses vaporized into mere puffs of smoke. Unfortunately, he'd been so laser focused on cleaning up the minions that he didn't really pay the attention he needed to the big guy. His weapon passed just a hairsbreadth away from the lion's hide. "Ah, hell," he groaned. He muttered a longer stream of obscenities under his breath as he spun his weapon over the back of his hand and drove the butt of the staff into the ground. "It's on you Mari. I'm almost tapped. Let's wrap this up."

It was a shame she couldn't use her Charge again; that would have killed it in one fell swoop. But even her strongest attack....unless she managed to pull a critical hit from her ass, wouldn't kill it. "I won't be able to." Mari said to Oscar. "I can whittle it down to a sliver- but I'm a dagger user - don't exactly have the same punch as you do." She said with a nod to his flaming weapon. "Still, the bleed and burn effects should take care of whats left." 

Mari focused on the battle ahead for now. As long as her and Oscar kept the Lion away from the girls, that's what mattered right now. Lectures would come later. With the lion focused on Oscar Mari jumped at its side - her dagger tearing through his haunches. THe lion roared. a mighty roar  that died dow ninto a pained gurgle.

They were so close.

Yuki kept her seat on the floor as the remaining lions dwindled to nothing but a single remaining lion. They had gotten through this ordeal so far, and they were just one tick of bleed and burn away from seeing the victory icon on their HUDs. Yuki and Shiina were about to get an insane amount of experience for this, and now it feels a little justified since she was able to land an attack on the Lion and dodge one of its attacks while also making the switch to Oscar. What she did was insanely insignificant to the fight, but it ensured that Shiiina, the person she was charged with protecting made it out with her life. That's what mattered to her.

The paladin looked over to her charge with a slight smile but a somewhat concerned expression. "Hey you're doing alright? No scratches or damage to you? I'd be upset with myself if I didn't protect someone well enough and let them get hurt behind my shield." Her smile grew a little as she noticed the full health bar that Shiina had. Good, that's all that mattered to her right now.

Shiina fired a thumbs up at Yuki "I'm cool, your K." a turned face toward Oscar and Mari still trapped in skill stasis standing over a slowly decaying king. Its HP was ticking down every passing second. "Yuki, FEAR MY RECKONING!" she chuckled as she rushed toward the expiring creature. An opportunity she wouldn't get at another moment, she left caution to the wind. Running past the group to the large huffing mass. A soft brush to the beast with harshed breath it was still extremely angry, but so weak its muscles wouldn't respond. "Aw big cat, what's got you down?" Shiina fired a rather gruesome grin. Petting its mane with her low leveled hand, it was soft. "Shh, go to sleep. your dying now." she started to sing a child's lullaby as its eyes began to struggle to stay open. The green glow simply seems to numb its descent before it turns to data. A quick leap to her feet with a scanning eye and raised hand "High five!" toward Mari and Oscar. she then screams to Yuki "YUKI, HIGH FIVE!"

Seeing the Lion's remaining health exist as a mere pip on its bar, Oscar elected to put away his weapon. It was bleeding. It was burning. As soon as those two effects ticked, the lion would fall. What was rather unexpected was Shiina strolling up to the lion and petting it as the massive creature collapsed under its own weight. Oscar was going to say something to her, but the Lion had no more fight left in it. It was rather touching how she soothed the beast as it passed. Her hand took on a green hue as the lion closed its eyes for the final time. Its form eventually cracked and burst into an explosion of data and polygonal shards. Then, Shiina did a complete 180 and shot up from the ground, her petite hand high in the air awaiting a high five from someone. Oscar blinked and paused for a minute. The sudden change in demeanor gave him whiplash. Finally, he stepped forward and slapped her hand with his. "You know you're a little bit of a crazy person, right?"

Oscar chuckled and shook his head. The quest was over, the boss was slain. He couldn't help but feel a little remorse for exposing Yuki to danger, however briefly. He had intended for him and Mari to handle all of the heavy lifting. But still. He strode over to Yuki and patted her ever so slightly on the head. "That was a pretty badass thing you did back there. You got some serious balls." For Mari and him, this encounter was nothing. They had the health to simply brute force their way through the fight. But for a level 11 newbie to throw caution to the wind and get involved to protect someone else? That took some serious bravery. Oscar had nothing but respect for the budding tank. "I gotta say guys, this was one hell of an adventure. You all kicked some major ass."

Oscar took a step forward and immediately found himself falling forward through the air. His foot had caught on something. He stumbled for a bit, miraculously managing to stay on his feet. He turned to see what it was that he'd tripped over. His eyes fell upon a treasure chest just sitting in the middle of an open field. A treasure chest that literally no one had noticed until this point. Had it just spawned in or something? "Huh, look at this guys. Who wants to pop this bad boy open?"

"No. No Hi-five." Mari said in an authoritative tone, as though she were a mother chastising a child who had just stolen cookies from the jar minutes before dinnertime. She was very annoyed. "You put yourself into danger - you strode up to an enemy. Sure it seemed like it was safe but you never know. I'm not applauding idiotic behavior like that. How the hell do you think we'd feel if you died?" Mari gestured to Yuki with the nod of her head. "Or how Yuki would feel, to watch you, someone she is meant to protect run past her, ignoring her - and everyone else's advice to pat something that would wipe out everything you are if it merely sneezed in your direction."

Mari turned her eyes briefly to Yuki. "That feeling you probably have? That's how I  feel when I hear about some crazy pink haired tank nearly killing herself. When I have to worry because you're off gallivanting around higher floors with little regard to your life. It's exhausting. You keep that up you're gonna push people away."

Mari knew she was being harsh. But sometimes, being harsh was the only way to get through to people. Like a slap to the face, a wake up call. It was clear Oscar was far more callivier about the situation than she was. Mari wished she had that luxury. She wished she had that sense of ease, that freedom of being able to just relax. When was the last time I relaxed?

"Once you open that chest." Mari gestured to Oscar, "I'd recommend escorting the girls back to the safety of the town." Mari pointed up at her own cursor. "I'd do it myself, but I'm afraid I cannot. 'Sides, I doubt they'd want to after me chewing their ears out."

Yuki sat quietly as she quickly praised for her heroics and then instantly scolded just as quickly. How was she supposed to react to all this? Shiina jumped in and could have got herself killed and Mari was upset with her making that ballsy move while Oscar was saying she was a brave person. That coupled with the fact that she could have died was making her mind race with questions. Unable to find answers to the questions, she blurted something out.

"What do you want from me?! Bravery? Obedience? I don't know anymore! I'm trying my best to protect people and I keep getting yelled at for doing my best to help! If I didn't do something Shiina could have been targeted and died! I don't want to see anyone die... That's the whole reason that I wanted to become a tank rather than a support!" The girl stood to her feet and grabbed the Teleportation Crystal she had in her inventory handing it back over to Oscar. "This is yours."

Exclaiming "Yeah!" to Oscar's compliance with her strange request swatting her hand that she had to reach high given his height. Looking dumbstruck to Mari as it wasn't clicking what the problem was, she turns toward Yuki and shouts the same "Yuki HIGH FIVE!" hoping to get another one after a job well done. Shiina had enjoyed every minute of this fiasco, the sense of danger was completely absent in her mind. She now had a fun story to compose music to. Taking to the top of the chest and scattering her hands upon its lid with a frenzy of pseudo drum solo pats. "Yuki, got the thing. Its a box yo! Lions are dead and now we got a treasure." as she waits for Oscar to open the container, her energy unsquelched by Mari's warning as her excitement threatened to burst out of her face, it would probably be confetti.
