[E3-PP-F21] Sugar and Spice

Recommended Posts

A cold cave and two sets of steps — one bouncing, lively; and the other, just following behind.

"I believe you received the event notification too, so how is— ah, found some!"

And the small purple-haired girl was off, leaving dancing shadows in her wake. The more sensitive of the glowing flora curled its technicolor leaves inwards as her echoing steps landed too close to it, but the interior of the tunnel remained brightly lit from the bright blue stalactites hanging like icicles from the ceiling. "Finders keepers. But don't mind me, there are plenty to go around." She stopped before a crevice in the wall and carefully pulled out each chocolate egg in turn, dematerializing them into her inventory. "I do suppose you're getting tired of caves at this point, but I thought it only fair to repay you a little. We're very deep in the network of mines in a place other players can hardly find without the aid of a map, and it's full to bursting with our newest event currency."

Arabelle spun around, pressing back against the cold wall. She held a finger to her lips and smiled conspiratorially.

"It's just the two of us here...
so let's make it our little secret, okay?"

How did it end up like this?

And why were they hunting for chocolate eggs in a cave?

Pinball didn't even question it anymore. He got dragged around, begrudgingly, like an exhausted dog on a leash. He felt no enjoyment searching for chocolate eggs like a preschooler. There was nothing fun about the flowery festivities this time of year. There was nothing to be gained from that shop but rewards that would appeal to and contribute to the frontliners' overall power fetish, and, befitting that, the grind alone for any of the rewards was mind numbingly monotonous. You could spice it up by killing monsters or fishing, sure, but even then? It's the same formula. The search. The fight. The gathering. The grind.

Boring, boring, boring. No variety, no gimmicks, no interesting features as far as he could see.

But here he was anyway, alone, with the person who made him the most nervous to be around. Maybe besides Bahr. He'd traded his black jacket for an old, ratty black cloak with shredded edges. On its front, the Emerald Harbingers' symbol shone only dimly amidst the sea of dark fabric.

"Our little secret," Pinball echoed, halfheartedly scooping up a couple of eggs, "sure, sure."

"Our little secret..." the small purple-haired girl echoed. Arabelle eased herself from the wall and retraced her steps, drawing closer to the boy who had yet to move forward. She smiled coyly. "Yes, that does sound lovely and a little... scandalous, even. I miiight not have been expecting you to say it back word for word, so I suppose I managed to pull another one over her today."

For a few moments, silence reigned between the two players as Arabelle quickly moved away to chase a bundle marked by yellow past a corner not too far from them. She returned, happily adding two chocolate eggs to her inventory. "Hey, remember what I asked you earlier?" Delicately holding a black crystal between her gloved fingers, she tilted her head. "I can't remember if you were into classical music, but regardless, people sometimes have this one piece that speaks to them the most. Maybe they just like how it sounds, maybe it expresses something they can't put into words, or maybe it holds some other meaning to them." She dangled the crafting material in front of him, as if making an offer. The smile she offered was small, but kind. "The crystals I gave you were my shop's default. They're the loveliest pieces I've ever listened to, but they're not personalized in any way. So, might there be something else you want to hear? It doesn't have to be classical."
