Taking this quest: 

 

 

Hinata walked along the path that she hadn’t memorized by heart. It wasn’t often that there was any reason to explore every part of an area because most of the times it was just normal boring old stuff. Rarely was visiting something boring actually… exciting. But here she was, going along with the flow like nothing was odd about what she was doing. “I hope I can find some eggs. I don’t want to be that girl rumored to spend all night wander around doing nothing,” she said to add some lightheartedness to the potentially harmful situation she were putting herself in. She didn’t fear anything really, in this floor one landscape but she’d heard too many rumors to be completely at ease.

 

When she approached the next gathering site she thought of if she would ever get married if she got out of here. Maybe… just maybe… She performed her search, hoping for an egg or some materials to take her mind off of things.

Hinatao kept walking around the courtyard and palming her dagger at the grassy walls and shrugged off leaves that fell on her shoulder. Before long she had a huge basket full of eggs that she tied a rope around and carried with her. She tried to twist the basket out of her zone of control while she walked to add in a bit of training but it didn’t do much for her. This wasn’t like the real world where you built muscle by doing the normal stuff. Not everything could be a workout. She gripped the basket and squeezed, smiling when she felt her calluses withstand the shredding motion the rope made against her. It was always a good reminder that she was stronger than normal people. She took the basket to an NPC who said something deep and meaningful, haunting in his icy delivery. She didn’t make any sense of it but she hoped that there would be an egg or material around here… if she could just find it.

Hinata saw some others walking around gathering eggs. Some people wanted to kick her out because she was a green newbie and Hinata knew. But they couldn’t. She could be here as much as she liked and they couldn’t do anything about it. Hinata looked around. Surely there was something here that could be used to help out her egg and material hunt. It wasn’t every day that one could improve their status by giving a kind gesture. .And if she were ever back in the area, these other players would surely remember her and think positively of her. But nothing came to mind and the meanest of them all told her, “why don’t you just go home? You’re just level one and nobody cares about you. You’re just hogging up all the materials.”  

 

“No thanks,” she responded and out she went around to the other side of the courtyard. What did she care? If it made them happy then she would search on the other side.

Hinata was searching for something special in this courtyard. She had gone out on a mission that she had given herself: Gather as much gosh darn event eggs as she could and she was going to keep going until she dropped! She ran out to see if there was anything worth gathering. She was full of energy, literally, and was not going to settle for anything less than gathering as much eggs as she could get her hands on. She walked around and searched while watching a duel that was going on in the distance. Two people were fighting. The two of them collided like a pair of meat bags slamming together in a very unappetizing manner, bone and muscle and weaponry smacking into one another ruthlessly. Just watching them made pain shoot throughout her body as she ripped at some plants in order to get some eggs or materials that were hopefully hidden within. “I hope I get a lot again! this is kind of fun!”

Hinata was going around looking for the hidden goodies when she felt someone come up behind her. Was it another bully? She felt someone or something grasp at her flesh with whatever grip he could muster up, yanking her backwards and far from what she was reaching out to find. Why did they always seem to come at her when she was least suspecting it? But she recovered quickly and would drop upon it, staying low and becoming resistant to being tossed this way or that. She just wanted to get this task over with and she could largely ignore the imbecils that thought it was good idea to waste her time. Like seriously, why did anyone think that bothering a gatherer was a good idea? It seemed downright stupid in Hinata’s opinion. Well, she wasn’t in charge and if she was she probably wouldn’t be doing something silly like searching all day. She looked for eggs and materials.

Hinata looked around and saw what had pulled her back. Monstrous in size, the thing, whatever it was, nearly doubled Hinata’s own height and was twice as wide as herself. If she tried to tackle this enemy head on it would be like trying to move a boulder and with each failed attack that she threw at it, her muscles grew fatigued, protesting for some kind of well deserved rest. She kicked with all her might and bit ferociously and lunged without rest, but the creature swatted her away, smelling the air desperately for her scent. This was almost the scariest thing she had faced on a gathering task in her entire life. Many things had happened to Hinata in her time but none of them were quite as gross and creepy as this one. It was all she could do to see if it was protecting some kind of herb or special goody that she was here to find. She searched desperately to see if she could grab up an egg or two and some materials.

Hinata couldn’t help but keep searching for eggs and materials even as all the chaos raged on around her. Somehow she was getting attacked while gathering and even still she had to keep focusing on gathering itself. Who knew if what she was looking for would get broken or damaged during all this unnecessary fighting. She had to be careful with her steps and also be mindful not to cause too much noise. She didn’t want any other creatures like this to come around and ruin her day. She decided to keep her steps nice and precise as she kept scanning around, dodging hit after hit and figuring out if what she was looking for was even here. If it wasn’t then she could just run away and forget all about this unfortunate encounter. Not too many of her days were quite as bad as this one, she’d admit. There was almost a guarantee that she would wake up with nightmares of this crap later on tonight.

Hinata was so done with this giant thing that was after her. She decided to attack it since she didn’t think there was anything else worth seeing around here. She attacked again and again, but the enemy was appearing to learn her pattern. He lifted up and caught her in his mighty grasp. Pulling the small female closer to his body, he reared back and slammed her down beneath him. Hinata gasped as she took damage, struggling beneath his weight without the strength to push him off of her so that she could abandon this fight and run away. Her efforts were almost futile, and the creature sensed this, pinning her beneath his feet. But she managed to escape and run off to search some more. She was delighted to find another area, much more quiet than the last one to search and gather. This one didn’t have any other people in it so she could hopefully find some eggs…

Hinata leaned close to the ground and growled a little. Was it her or her stomach? Sometimes she couldn’t tell when she searched for this long. She looked around and could easily see the eyes of other people staring back at her. This side of the courtyard was much more peaceful than the last with that… whatever it was that had jumped on her. It hadn’t done hardly anything to her but that was in the past. She felt safer now than before and was just snooping around a courtyard and hoping to run into an egg or two. There wasn’t anything on this end, so she circled around and kept searching. It was like she was waiting for some generator to determine if she found what she needed or not. She found some leaves on the ground. Could they be covering what she needed to find? There was only one way to find out.

Hinata turned over the leaves and was arguably disappointed in what she did find. It wasn’t what she wanted per say, but it was better than nothing. She was still far from finishing all she needed to finish finding though. While this gathering task was a lot more peaceful than most of them ones she had gone on, there was still a whole lot of stuff to find. It made the searching a lot slower than normal and every passing minute was like agony on her soul. She wondered if everyone else was going through this same kind of stuff, or if she was just the odd one out doing boring stuff instead of exciting stuff like slaying beasts and monsters. “Be happy you’re not doing that kind of stuff,” she told herself, “you’ve needed a break from that for a long time.” She smiled and looked under a rock to hopefully find some more materials. But who knew if she would find any?

Hinata had taken a break to go check out some shops. But now she was back in the swing of things and searching and gathering as much as her poor little heart could. There seemed to be a very large lack of people around this time. She seemed to be all alone and maybe all the other gatherers had head home. It was getting late and it only made sense that people wanted to go home and sleep it off. Not everyone had her discipline to stay up as long as she did and go around being a good little worker. She wanted to use the rewards from this task of hers to feast, and she tried to turn her head, to look around for something or another. Really anything that could help her. She really wanted to find some eggs right about now and if she found some, she would do a jump and a cheer.

Hinata had just found one more batch of eggs when she noticed that there was someone hiding around the corner of the pasture courtyard that she was searching in. She saw that beyond his matted hair he had a couple knives pointed down almost like they were a warning to anyone that wanted to mess with him. But he wasn’t using them. He was just as she was, wandering around and looking for useful stuff. There was no telling if he would find anything or if they were even competing for the same pool of resources. Hinata gave him a wave and hoped that they would not fall and if they did, she was hoping that they wouldn’t cross paths. She didn’t want to talk to anyone that looked that menacing when she was out on her own.  It was unlikely that anyone would manage to hit this man who had quick reflexes. She tried to push him from her thoughts and looked to see if there were any eggs around.

She looked around some more. There had to be more out here. She had met her quota but she had to keep the appearance that it took her longer to do these missions or else they might stop paying her so much. It was kind of awkward to look busy when you weren’t really busy. A visitor that had stopped by said, “you’re doing a lot better than I am. I only have one plant. Is this a good area?” She looked back at him and tried to say yes, but she shook her head. She didn’t want competition but the man could tell that she was lying. “Okay I get the message. So young to lose faith in others.” He shook his head and walked off, leaving her feeling kind of odd about what she had just done. She learned to lie but her feelings still got hurt and her lies were not very convincing.

She walked around some more, kind of upset that she had spent so much energy turning that guy down when she was really about done for the time being. It wasn’t going to hurt her if someone found a little extra. She was probably going to take a break or something, maybe go turn in what she had found so far, she didn’t know. She just felt bad, that’s it. She looked around, one last time and found what she needed and then decided to take a breather. “One can only search so much,” she said with her bag full of goodies. “I wonder how much this will net me,” she thought as she tried to work through the math. She gave up pretty quickly. Math was hard, even if she was kind of good for it for her age. She waved at the boy and told him, “there are actually a lot over here. Sorry for being so mean earlier.”

She’d just keep walking around, trying to ignore the allergies and such that came to her. She looked here and there for the eggsshe was after. When she felt sleepy, the strange creature came to close her eyes and relaxed her muscles. She was awakened by a new pressure on her shoulder and then along her arm. she looks at what was going on slowly, always sleepy. What a surprise to note the presence of the creature just inches from her face. She drops down near her fingers, exhaled deeply. The young girl was still, not wishing to scare the baby again. She couldn’t believe it was bothering her like she was its mom. The minutes pass and the child begins to take a constant breath. she was sleeping. She dared to let her fingers gently cover the tiny body. Her hand covered almost half of the creature oddly enough.

She looked at the little thing’s body for a moment before remembering that she was here for a little more than just finding critters. She found a couple eggs she was looking for and then turned attention back to what she was holding in her hands. She cocked her head and saw a fox that had a length of one meter from snout to tail. It was staring at them and it looked hungry. It has a bunch of orange fur intermixed with white fur. His eyes are blue and they have a cunning look to them. He has cute little paws that don't look like they're dangerous but his teeth look incredibly sharp once he opens his mouth. The very end of his tail is pure white. She didn’t know what to think of it. Was it a threat? Was it going to try making them his dinner? She had no way of knowing and it quickly darted through the field to escape.

“Don’t worry little thing. There’s nothing out there that’s gonna hurt you. Not the foxes in the bushes or the boars that come around here.” She had truly never seen a baby… whatever this was with such spunk. It just seemed to have an attitude and personality of its own and it couldn’t have been more than a couple days old. She looked around for some eggs and picked up what she found. Then she combed through the feathers. She watched as her little belly goes up and down as she breathes against the comfort of her feathers. Despite the baby's presence, she couldn’t help give a motherly love to it. Not like this when there was so much to do. She thinks too much about the state of the bird. Hatred. Disappointment. Sadness. Even joy. There was everything, very often in conflict with the real world. Who was she to help this creature when nature might kill it the minute they part?

As she walked along and gathered up more hemlock that she found on the ground, she couldn’t help but notice the time of day. It was getting late. She had wasted so much time on this little critter but at least it took up the day. She had to think about if there were going to be consequences for not meeting her full quota. She met the minimum, but they always expected her to go above and beyond at least a little bit. Then there was the punishment itself. It was impossible to fall from the heavens unless you were pushed. And that's exactly what they did to her. She clearly remembered the humiliation, anger and pain that mingled in the cry she uttered as she felt when she failed. Her young mind hated it. She wanted to succeed, to win. The feelings made her wonder why she even cared about this feathery thing at all.

She looked down at all her belongings that she brought with her, back at the tiny feathered creature, and decided that she didn’t want to be its mom. She tossed it only for it to waddle back to her. “Can’t you see I don’t want you,” she said to it while she marched off. She looked around for the hemlock that she constantly searched for eggs and materials but the little bird only followed her. She would stubbornly look up, she could not see the reaction of others now. Will she be able to see them again one day? She relies little on that. Hanabi only gets up when the creature gets up and starts playing again. She seemed to have forgiven her for her idiocy of the day before. This reassured her enough that it would be fine on its own. "You should find a name.” It was only right to come u with a name for a baby.

The idea to name the critter came to her as she watched her new companion sleep after about a half hour of walking. She did not know what to propose. Should she be the one who decides which name to choose? Yes since she has never been confronted with such a thing before. But she had one last thing to do before figuring out a name. “Just one more batch and I’ll take a break,” she said as she looked around. She found a bit more eggs and materials and that made up for what she was lacking from before. Pretty soon she would have enough to get whatever she wanted with this crap. Every person in her family that was born had already their name assigned since long before their conception. So, how should she proceed with a being whose birth has never been planned? "Suggestions?" Too bad the bird thing didn’t talk in the slightest. Well she would figure this out later. She was wrapping up at the courtyard and was gonna go do something else now.
