[E3][SP] Beginner Quest 3

Hinatao was at her third quest and she was just told to deliver a parcel to someone named Hannah the artisan. So she did that. She went to her rubbed her chin, as if she had a beard when she was approached by another player who asked her why she was taking the quest and what benefits there were and if it were dangerous. “You pose a lot of good points,” she said with a certain solemnness, “I guess I got caught up in the excitement and missed a couple key points you are bringing up. I have nothing but my friend’s word that this quest is a good idea. I can only hope that he doesn’t try to do something shady while I sleep, and I intended to keep an eye off. If I can’t stop any shenanigans then I don’t deserve to live anyway. She stayed mostly silent after that, keeping a keen eye on the person asking her questions. She decided to look around and see if there were any eggs in this building just in case... and she found a few!

Something unique about this area was that there were trees mixed in. It made it hard to spot things at a distance but she had survived well enough thus far. She walked up to a woman who looked like she had something to say to her and she asked her to find a jewel for her. She was not obligated to do so, but it would add a nice spin onto her boring gathering activities. The jewel was apparently over where there were dangerous enemies. It made sense. She was after stuff guarded by enemies and this was going to put her exactly where she needed to be. Why not kill two birds with one stone? She felt alone without her original sounding forest around her. Life in the village when you didn't have experience in a huge bustling city was quite complicated, and strangely it reminded her of things but that was a topic for another time. She flicked here eyes around and looked for eggs. She hoped she could find a few more in here.

When she finally got the quest in her log she went over to where she was supposed to go by exiting the grove and heading to thecave. The pasture had mixed in with a grove that was quite interesting but only slightly. She’d been by this place so many times that the wonder was gone. No more boars, that was a fricking godsend. No more boars to grind until her ears bled and nothing left to gather. It was just straight up exploration now and searching for that good stuff. So what now? She just had to look around it seemed. She was looking for eggs and on the side she was going to keep an eye out for that jewel that the girl from the beginning had mentioned. It was all the same to her. Wasted time was wasted time in the end. She saw something peculiar and turned her head to observe it properly. Curiosity prevailed, the girl slowly approached the shiny object. What was it?

The object wasn’t anything interesting. Hinatao approached another person who was walking around and searching and held out a hand to handshake, if he’d accept it. She didn’t often handshake, but if she was going to grow up, she might as well start doing some grown up stuff. She wouldn’t notice that she was supposed to be using her right hand so she would use her left. “Yeah I’m going…” She trailed off as he responded and said something about there being a big boss around here. Then he asked Hinatao where she was going. Great, she could answer him while trembling in her boots. There was a much higher level person around too and he didn’t seem to like that newbies were here. None of this detracted from her egg hunt and she quickly cast her glance around and tried her best to find the eggs. She found a handful and put them in her basket.

There wasn’t much else to do except listen to these two people talk. She was feeling a little stuffy so she removed her glasses, with great difficulty one might add due to having to navigate the menu. Then she said, “I’m going to find the boss I just know it. It’s got to be around here soon.” Soon she went deeper into the cave and looked around. She felt like she couldn’t see much. Her accuracy was going to be total bullocks in here she could just feel it. She wondered how she would ever kill a boss if she couldn’t even hit it. She somehow regretted coming here when there were plenty of other easy risk free missions to take. She soon found a shiny jewel. Was this what she needed? Well, before she fought this big baddie she thought of using that special safeguard potion, but she decided against it. She thought she was going to be able to take whatever this thing threw at her. Before she picked up the jewel, she would go gather some eggs she saw lying around.

The eggs she thought she found had turned out to be just decorations. What a tease! Anyway she thought about the jewel. She grabbed it and immediately a big giant boss spawned in an instant! She panicked but she still had the guts to go attack it. She slashed at it with her blade and hoped for the best. Very expectedly, she missed the cave guardian spectacularly. It was like she never had a chance to begin with. It then found the gall to smash her with its big, whatever that was and do some serious damage to her. She ached all over from the impact and tumbled back on the ground. This was truly terrifying and a very welcome change of pace to all the easy stuff she had gone through recently. She looked at her readout. She was over a quarter dead now. That didn’t feel good and she hated it.

The day had been a blur until this guardian had come up and attacked her, flashing before her eyes everything began to really take shape. Her investigations into the local area had taken a spectacular leap as she deciphered more and more of what was going on around her. Her excitement only grew, and her discover of this creature was even more interesting. She ran up to the creature and slashed again. She missed again. God this thing was fast and she didn’t think she ever missed this often even against slower enemies. It just moved so weirdly in a manner she never heard of before. It made her think that she was in some kind of illusion. At least she was able to bend out of the way as she leapt around. She saw some eggs in the corner of her eyes, but she couldn’t get to it yet.

She rushed at the creature and eyed it from behind this time, wondering if it was worth trying a stealth type approach or not. She doubted it because things weren’t really looking great from back here. But she tried it anyway and when she slashed, she felt her blade do some serious damage. She could see that she hurt the creature and it cemented that excitement within her. As the idea for an expedition grew in his head, her hopes and dreams grew with it. There were definitely obstacles to overcome whe nit came to defeating this thing, however. Firstly, she hadn't done any research in the area but she was still able to find some eggs but she couldn't scoop em into her pack in the middle of the creature wailing around and not being able to attack her. If she went on an expedition here that would mean that she would have to leave her regular gathering spots.

That was enough dawdling around. The guardian was very angry and it was finally ready to attack again. It swung at her but all she did was chop its big arm hand thingy off and now it just bled out a bunch of juices and then fell to the floor dead. “That was simpler than I thought it would be,” she commented and then she walked around. Lo and behold, she found a whole lot of gore and guts right under the creature’s feet. It was a guardian alright. She guessed that she had done all she needed to finish this quest. But that wasn’t enough. She wanted to explore a little more to see if she could find anything else useful around here. There was no point in rushing things unnecessarily. She had to learn to appreciate the little good moments in life and cherish them while things weren’t out to kill her.

With the guardian out of the way there was so much stuff to gather up and pack away. She actually found some eggs too! And more pressing than that, even, was the necessity of obtaining support from the higher ups. Their endorsement of the expedition would mean that she would receive the full weight of the others behind her, in addition to financial resources and personnel if she ended up being really successful. Maybe she was getting ahead of herself. She was just a beginner relative to most other people around here. She was low on the totem pole and not very influential in the least. And as difficult as talking to the two people she loved most in the world was, finding the courage to approach them and discuss her hopes and dreams was not very easy. Problems for her to deal with for the rest of her childhood. Requesting permission and support from the elites around here was something else entirely from that even.

She left behind the giant guardian and continued through the pasture to see what else she could find. There was plenty of stuff to find, plenty to do, but all she cared about was gathering. She was a little tired from her fight, especially from getting hit, and she needed to take things easy. And so, as she made his way through the familiar grassy areas and apprehension rose in her chest. She knew, but she could only imagine how much time she had left to burn. There had to be a lot of it left by the position of the sun in the sky. Still, though, her acquiring of her eggs just now had been more a point of contention in her mind than she'd imagined. Rather than revel in her findings, the girl instead scorned and shunned her success. She was like jealous of herself as if the ‘her’ that succeeded was not really her own self because she assumed she was going to be unlucky all the time.

Hinatao kept looking for eggs. She didn't find any though, and she checked her basket, and then kept walking around. She thought about her dream that she had on a previous night. Once again Hinatao appeared in the same wasteland she had dreamed of for half a week now. She and her childlike companionin her dream struggle endlessly with no end in sight. She was far too close to a strange dark river that crisscrosses the ground. Hinatao calls her to come back to her, but the childlike creature was drawn tirelessly to the shadows. Worried, Hinatao rushed forward to try to stop her dream familiar’s fierceness. She fixes her while accelerated her race, more and more panicked by what she sees in front of her. The baby was tilted her head to plunge her snout into the dark, opaque water as she was pulled back quickly. The memory of the dream was enough to make her not want to think about it anymore.

Maybe the memory of the dream was making it hard to find eggs. No that couldn’t be true. She found three just to her left and put them in her basket. But she couldn’t stop thinking about the dream. The baby in her dream had grown frustrated, but Hinatao continued to move her away with her hand until she hears her companion. It's when she stands up and turns around to scold Krgn that she felt it for the first time. A strong vibration that starts from her heart and spreads through each fiber of her being, ended with her arms. The latter suddenly become extremely heavy, unbalanced the gamer. She did not have the strength to counter what pulls her so sharply backwards. Hinatao had plunged in spite of herself into the river. “No don’t think about the river,” she told herself. That had been too traumatizing even in the dream.

As if the mere memory was enough to shock her, she only found two eggs this time even when searching wth full energy. She couldn’t help but think about it though. It instilled inspiration in herself, she was surprised to find that the water did not invade her nostrils and her mouth. In fact, it seemed like something that has no negative interaction with her body. That did not make sense, such a substance should not exist in a wasteland like this. However, she now clearly felt the black water compressed more and more in and around her. The pressure increases without her being able to do anything there until it becomes painful, as if someone had stabbed her skin in the flesh in a thousand places. “Enough is enough,” she thought about the dream. She tried to think of anything to take her mind off of it. It was impossible.

She swooped her hands down to pick up the last of the eggs that she could see. She then thought back to the memory she had of talking to Yuki the day earlier. They had done her quest to kill nepents. She had wanted to say, but never got a chance to say, “Aw, that sucks you can’t garuntee they hit you I guess. That would be funny to want the punishment but I guess at higher levels it’s just not something you’d want that badly.” She stretched her arms and raised them above her head. It should have been all over but… well she didn’t always get what she wanted. She had just looked at Yuki and the look on her face was enough to tell her that they had what they needed. “Yes!” she shouted with happiness in her own eyes. “That took forever, but I guess it paid off in the end. Thanks for bringing me along by the way… I hope we can go do something fun again soon. But not too dangerous! I don’t want to get squashed by some humongous enemy or something… not yet

Well, it was back to the old grind. She started looking around for anything interesting to pick up while she travelled and thought that she really didn’t have to look right now. She still had to get to her destination first. She soon found herself outside the door to the person who hired her’s office which was kind of a grove of sorts. She took a deep breath to steady herself. She was sure of herself this time and even more so, sure that there was more stuff to be found in the area she had been searching in for weeks it seemed like. Her contributions to the gathering community could be significant, not to mention his bridging the gap between the easy and hard to gather things. But that wasn’t up to her in the end. She still relied on the more experienced people to figure that out unfortuantely.

Once standing clearly in front of the girl who had hired her to do this gathering thing she received her mission details and was given her next task. It was just to deliver some package to someone else so that’s what she would do. He supposedly lived in a pasture by a lake or something. So she went there with a leisurely pace. She had all day so why not enjoy it a little? On the way she looked for some eggs but she was far from the pasture so she didn’t find much of them. She had a few ideas about the excavations that she could do in the area, and how to maximize the benefits from the current happenings and events, and she would definitely need to explain them to herself many times if she was ever going to explain them to others. She repeated the information and thoughts in her head several times for good measure.

It didn’t take too long to find the man she was looking for. She handed over what she had to in order to meet the woman’s request and then he told her about where the good spots in the area were. There was nothing else too it but that so she left and decided to occupy her time with finding more eggs. Here she was, not having even earned any money yet for this task, and she was going to approach the wilds to set out on a mission that may be unsuccessful. It was a risk, and one that she, in the moment, was confident she was capable of overcoming with her experience in the field of gathering. However, as she thought about it, she knew that this course was hers to take. What better way to show devotion than to dedicate her life to doing what nobody else wanted to do because it was so boring?

She kept looking around and found some more eggs pretty easily. The man had been right, there was some good eggs around here. There was nothing like having most of the work cut out of her goal. The man’s acquisition of knowledge in regards to the local herbs and such and their properties was the perfect way to bring people into the gathering game. It was a solid plan for anyone who owned these lands, and as long as her assumptions were correct, she could benefit nicely from the knowledge she had gained. The other people around her could, should she succeed, lead the charge on the making use of said information. She gritted her teeth and thought more about whether or not this was all worth it. Her nerves were getting to her again, she rapped frustratedly on a nearby rock as if it had answers for her however impossible that was.

She looked around one last time to see if there was anything to search for in this section of the pasture and then went on to circle around to explore another area. Any time now she could just decide to call it quits and go home. She sighed and laid down for a bit. She remembered a conversation she’d had with her parents. They were trying to explain foreign affairs to her and telling her why she needed to learn another language. This was something which any true linguist knew was absolutely necessary to understanding politics and foreign affiars in their complete forms. Languages changed all the times even if the main one persisted throughout all major nations. She wondered if learning another language would be of any use to her now though. They might not even notice or care about having other languages in the higher ranks. She had no way of knowing. Well that was enough of that. she went back to her home and slept.
