NS 0 Posted May 8, 2020 #1 Share Posted May 8, 2020 (edited) NS | Vince Montagne | 19 | Male | 5'10" | 170lbs Appearance If you look at Vince, he’s a strange contradiction. He’s clearly fit despite the lanky stature he has. A normal everyday face just seems to pronounce how suspicious he seems. A pleasant grin, a relaxed face… In all honesty, the things that’d make a person normal only make Vince more abnormal. History Vince was a born gambler, through and through. It was strange though, how it came to be. After all, he was born to a lower-class family and he certainly couldn’t afford to gamble things away when they had so little to begin with. In fact, he himself had to work as well - doing odd jobs here and there just to get personal money. However, when he came into his school’s underground gambling ring… He was a natural. His initial losses did nothing to quell the feeling he got for winning at almost entirely no cost. He had to get better. For the rest of his academic career, he made sure to continue growing his skills, his natural sense of gambling. Now imagine what it was like for Vince to find out about online gaming. More importantly, how easy it is to make real money off digital items. With this realization, the gambler HAD to get in on this scheme. Whenever he can get access to the digital world, whether it be at a friend’s or a PC Cafe, he endlessly ground away at various games to get better at them - more importantly, grind out important loot that people might want. Sure, he might not be the best at games but all it takes is a little sprinkle of luck and a bit of work to make an easy profit. With a secure living for himself and his family, enough to be considered lower middle class, he was living the life. Not having to worry about wondering when they can eat again. Not having to worry about wondering when they’re going to lose their home. Now, all Vince had to do was casually grind away at easy money-making opportunities… Until Sword Art Online was announced. With all that hype around it, how can he not resist the opportunity? Sure, it put a dent in their finances, but he can certainly make it back. Roaming around his school, making sure that he can get a key - through ethical or unethical means - was his plan. On the fateful day that he managed to get into the game, he immediately got to work. Just another game for him to comfortably ride to the top... Personality Vince is a gambler. For him, life was an everyday game of chance. A pleasant smile. Gentle words. A poker face to hide what he’s holding close. And because of that poker face, it’s quite clear almost, how fake it seems. On the other hand, there are times where it is legitimately quite genuine. When Vince has the mask on, he likes to keep things at face value. He certainly doesn’t want to make enemies, so he’ll say what people want to hear. Or not hear. It depends on the situation and how it benefits him. A situation that benefits him is much more preferable than being dealt a bad hand. On the other hand, Vince knows that sometimes, to get to the top, you need people to support you. And sometimes, that means being genuine. So he’s honest. Lazy and lackadaisical. If there’s an easy way for victory, he’ll take it. Sometimes that means endlessly grinding out something, but hey, whatever it takes to be comfy. Virtues Cautious - “Know When to Fold ‘Em…” Vince is a gambling man. And much like any other gambler worth their salt, he knows when to commit and when to call it quits. For him, remaining skeptical and on his toes keeps him in the game more often than it kicks him out. Most of all, if he’s playing for keeps, he’ll sure as hell make sure that it’s on his terms... If it’s not on his terms, Vince won’t play. And he’ll certainly make sure it’s on his terms. Exploitative - “If we win, let’s win harder.” Once Vince gets an inch, he’ll take a mile. Give him an opening, and he’ll ruthlessly pursue it to the end. A high tier item that can be easily ground out? Count him in, he’ll work all day. A gamble that practically gives him a free win? It sounds like his type of deal. No victory is greater than absolute victory. Adrenaline Junkie - “Give it your all!” Sometimes, his blood starts rushing and it gets him going. That high he gets from a victory? That high he gets from winning a scary gamble? Vince constantly seeks that high, and he knows how to use it well. Flaws Cautious - “… Unless They’re Bluffing” Unfortunately, Vince’s cautiousness works against him. He wants failsafes. Backups. Anything to guarantee success. However, he could never account for one’s luck. He’ll be hesitant to play a game without knowing all the details. You want him to give it his all? Better hope you have something good to keep him playing. Eternal Poker Face - “Is that so?” Vince essentially has a permasmile. Not only that, but he exudes an energy that’s so fake that it is practically palpable to the people around him. That does not mean he, himself, is fake, but more so of the fact that he holds his cards close. So close, that no one else realizes that Vince had cards to begin with. The gambler isn’t willing to part with things for free. He has a price, after all. ADRENALINE. JUNKIE. - “ALL IN! LET'S PUT MY LIFE ON THE LINE!” Unfortunately, when the game starts getting interesting and tense, Vince has a tendency to go all-in. What would’ve been a minor loss could quickly devolve into a severe defeat. His cautiousness, thrown to the wind. This is the high he’s been looking for, even if it means losing everything.
