Ylva Fox | 27 | Female | 5'8" | 145lbs

Appearance

Ylva naturally has long, light-brown hair and hazel eyes, but she's dyed them in-game to pale-silver and deep-blue respectively. Her body is sleek and slender; Ylva keeps most of her body covered, concealing her fitness. When she isn't forced to use her own appearance, she chooses to play as a man of similar qualities.

History

Ylva has always hated the damsel-in-distress trope. If it was real-life, okay, sure. To have them be written that way, fine. To have it be a constant and popular thing? It's too much, and that's why her favorite 'princess' was Mulan because she was such a badass. Ylva was a lively and friendly child, but she wasn't afraid to stand up to people. She'd often argued and tussled with jerks and their cronies, and while the results may have varied, she had no regrets. Ylva made many friends and enemies this way and she was proud of that.

Ylva met her best friend this way, and it was her who dragged Ylva in gaming. She'd dabbled with it before, mainly with older games thanks to her parents, but when she tried her first MMORPG, she was hooked immediately. She stumbled out of the gate as she had to learn even the most basic of fundamentals, but once she had that down, she was all set. Ylva grinded hard in both PvE and PvP. Arena, with its equipment equalization, was the perfect environment to learn the ins and outs of her class as well as others, and open-world PvP forced her into learning how to use her skills efficiently and optimally to overcome gear deficits. She'd eventually solidify her role in this and other games as a PK'er of PK'ers. As Ylva grew older, she mellowed out and matured just a bit.

With her gaming background, Ylva took up game development as a career and sword fighting as a hobby. She wasn't particularly good at programming so instead she mainly working with animating and helped design combat and PvP on the side. As for sword fighting, Ylva trained at an academy on the weekends as much as she was able to. So far, she's only just become comfortable with a sword and some stances.

During SAO's development, Ylva's academy was one of many that Argus called in to give some insight into the sword play and some mechanics of the game and, her instructors knowing Ylva, managed to get her permission to attend. Though she didn't actually participate much, it was still a neat experience that she carried with her. After some time had passed, one of her instructors who wasn't an avid gamer decided to hand off a game key to her, gifted by Argus as thanks for the help.

Personality

Ylva, when she was younger, was much like those dogs in viral videos where they'd break up fights between other animals: she's lively, friendly, and when something needs to be done, she does it in her own way,even if that means a tussle. As she's matured, these traits mellowed out but are still representative of her. In a vacuum, Ylva tends to keep to herself while keeping busy with little mannerisms like humming, softly singing, whistling, and such. When out with her friends, she's much more active and stands up for them whenever something weird is going down.

Ylva is an avid gamer and enjoys taking on the numerous and varied challenges that they provide her. When it comes to a challenge, Ylva does not back down. The way she sees it, greater the mountain, the greater the thrill, and she's willing to crawl up for as long as it takes to take the summit for her own because it'll make the ride down all the more worth it.

Virtues

Empathetic: Since an early age, Ylva has been receptive to the feelings of others; she'd always ask her parents why someone was doing something or why someone was feeling a certain way, and depending on the answer, she always responded with either an "Oh..." or an "Oh!". Ylva enjoys helping others in need, and even with her enemies, she isn't quick to demonize them, instead preferring to help them only if they're willing to give up their villainous ways.
Able Swordsman: Thanks to a training academy, Ylva was able to learn the ways of the sword. She's become comfortable enough that her own sword feels like an extension of herself, or for any others, some acclimation is enough to make her feel at least at ease. Unfortunately, this has led to her not being totally comfortable with Sword Arts.
Tenacious: Ylva is hard-working, and whenever she has her eyes on a goal, she doesn't stop until she gets it. She loves taking on a challenge even if the odds aren't in her favor. And when she seems down and out, Ylva will never give up on a situation, always hoping that she can turn it around.

Vices

Maybe a little too tenacious: Sometimes Ylva's tenacity can get the best of her. When she is gets particularly set on something, she loses sight of the things around her. It also can deal a blow to her rationality and instincts to preserve herself as she may overestimate her capabilities.
Self-righteous, to a degree: Ylva is not self-righteous to the point of smugness, but she does believe that when she is compelled to act, then she is just. This can go wrong by her acting to quickly on given information without analyzing it further, or if something seems obvious but ends up not being what she thought. When two sides of a situation seem equally right, she struggles to act. If they both seem equally wrong, she will let them deal with each other.
Enemy's Enemy: Donning herself as a PK'er of PK'ers, Ylva finds herself on the opposing end of many not-so-great people, or people who really don't like being messed with. There've been times when they've ganged up on her, and despite her best efforts, raw numbers can be difficult to overcome. Ylva also tends to roll solo making her additionally vulnerable.
