Iron_Lion 1 Posted June 13, 2020 #1 Share Posted June 13, 2020 (edited) Akio after obtaining the Alchemy profession, Akio was given options as to what kind of shop he wanted to have. There was only one problem: He didn't want to start selling potions to players. In fact, the only reason he got this profession in the first place was so that he wouldn't have to rely on other players for consumables. In fact, he hadn't even considered sharing with his allies until just recently. The tent is of a large size, ranging about twenty feet wide and thirty feet long. Inside the tent is an incredibly, and impressively, complex setup. To the left and right of the entrance of the tent are two large chests filled with supplies such as replacement flasks and vials, firewood, coal, etc. The right and left sides of the tent are both lined with long tables. The left tables all have shelving units placed on top of them, each filled with materials categorized into 'animal drop, mob drop, humanoid drop, plant, fungus, other, man-made', each with a label and it's properties. To see the full list of materials, check Iron_Lion's Loremaster in the signature. The right table has a rather complex setup of alchemy alembics, vials and flasks, tubes, boilers, as well as a collection of various tools such as mortar and stone, scissors, clippers, scalpels, knives, pliers, tweezers, toothpicks, ladles, spoons, skewers, stirring stick and many more such tools. Most of the alembics, vials and boilers appear to be connected to one another via tubes, and it's rather hard to follow which one leads to which until they're actually being used. In the center of the room is a cauldron with a fireplace below it. And finally, a collection of potions with labels on them have been set up on a massive shelving unit against the back of the tent. However there are more potions, crystals and salves than just the default selection of enhancements provided by Sword Art Online. Through experimentation and research, Akio has discovered multiple recipes to create a cosmetic effect for players. Complete list of cosmetic enhancements and what they do can be found below. And finally, a simple bedroll can be found in the corner of the tent with a simple pillow. Iron_Lion 1 Posted June 13, 2020 Author #2 Share Posted June 13, 2020 (edited) ~NOTICE FOR PLAYERS~ _______________________________________________________________________________ Akio has gained his profession primarily for himself and for his extremely close allies. If you're in great need of items, first check to see his stock and then please message either @Iron_Lion on site or message @Itzal on discord. Once in contact, please speak with me about what you're needing and we can try making it work in roleplay. In other words: PLEASE MESSAGE ME BEFORE MAKING A POST ON THIS THREAD. The reason for this is both IC reasons and RL reasons. IC reason is that Akio does not trust most people and prefers to operate alone or with close allies only. RL reason is that I can be busy sometimes and thus I'm not going to be a constant/reliable source for consumables, so come to me if you have no one else to go to, or if you need something right away (hence the 'look at my stock first' note). ~List of Enhancements~ _______________________________________________________________________________ [Default Enhancements] Spoiler ► Damage Cost: 1 Slot Cap: 3 Slots Effect: Gain +1 base damage per slot. LENGTHEN - Increases the duration of the cosmetic based on material tier (10%, 20%, 30%). RANGE - Increases the maximum range of the cosmetic based on material tier (10%, 20%, 30%). ENLARGE - Increases the size of the particles/image of the cosmetic. POTENCY - Increases the potency of the cosmetic's effects (make it brighter, make it shinier, make it louder, etc.) INVERTED - Reverse an effect of the player's choosing (instead of falling down it rises up for example) SPLASH - Instead of consuming, cosmetic must be thrown onto an entity to activate. ►Sparkle Effect: When applied to the player, it creates an aura of sparkles around the avatar, giving the effect of falling stardust. The sparkles generate above the player, and will linger until they reach the ground. Thus when the player walks, they leave a short trail of sparkles behind. The sparkles won't linger if they're too far from the player however, and thus they will begin to fade after they're five feet apart, taking a total of two seconds to fade away. By default, the sparkles will last about one hour. Modifications: Lengthen, Potency ►Glow Effect: When applied to the player, it creates a soft glowing effect about an inch thick around the player's avatar. The glow does not illuminate it's surroundings, however it does make the player visible to other players (not monsters or npcs). The color the glow effect has depends on the materials it was made from. By default, the glow effect will last about one hour. Iron_Lion 1 Posted June 13, 2020 Author #3 Share Posted June 13, 2020 (edited) Akio backed up after he placed the very last item and smiled with glee. "All done! Took longer than expected, but I found a process that works!" When he was given the choice of choosing the type of shop he wanted, he chose to have a large tent. One of the best things about this game, was that he could just select an item and pull up it's personal menu, allowing the player to pull it into his or her inventory in an instant. No hassle of tearing everything down, folding things up, and struggling to get it to fit in a bag wondering how it was put in there in the first place. But what was even better, was he didn't have to set it up either! All he had to do was select the area he wanted to place an item, then hit 'remove from inventory' and it materialized! Just like that, he could place his tent, tables, shelves, tools, materials and items! It was a thing of beauty! Of course, making sure he was placing everything in the correct area, as well as navigating the menu, was a chore, resulting in his setup/tear down being about thirty minutes but it was better than hours. He wondered if he could find menu shortcuts... "And now... To craft my first craft!...Outside, of um... That quest that is." He looked at the salve he crafted for healing wounds. It was a rare item, not a perfect, so it wasn't likely to be purchased by players since most would shoot for perfect in quality. Well, he supposed he could hold onto it and use it when he needed it. At any rate, that craft unfortunately didn't count to his experience gain, though he did gain 'actual knowledge experience' as a result. He learned that materials can have multiple properties. Some obvious some not, and that some parts of a material would be compatible with the other parts, but not always. For example: The green petal daisy couldn't be crushed and ground together. The petals and stem had to be separated or else it would result in a failure. Today, he'd be trying to make a new salve. He couldn't make potions yet, so crafter's respite was out of the question. And he had several healing potions he hadn't needed just yet, so he didn't need more healing salves. So Toxic Venom it was!!! Akio walked over to his work station and pulled out his mortar and pestle, as well as the scissors. He clipped the stem off of the top half of the flower, resulting in the stem shattering and vanishing. First he poured some water into the boiler and started a tiny fire under it so that it would begin to boil. Then he dropped the flower head into the mortar and began to grind it until it was shredded and fine. Once finished, he dropped the concoction into the boiler to dissolve the materials. Once dissolved, he poured it into a glass funnel which connected to a tube, leading the liquid to a special strainer which separated most of the water from the dissolved material, resulting in a fine powder he could use to apply it to the paste. He pulled out some bone meal and poured the powder into it. While he was mixing it however, there was a few sparks of warning before a small explosion of smoke poofed into his face. Waving it away he groaned. "What did I do this time?" He thought about how he had cut the stem off. That should have done it right? He repeated the process, only this time he noted every detail. In fact, he realized something: The petals had to be one hundred percent by themselves. In other words, he couldn't use the section where the pollen was, nor where the petals connected to and/or rested on. It had to be straight petals. He pulled each petal off and this time the material didn't shatter. He decided to test this with only half the flower petals, and once again he failed, though this time he believed it was because he didn't let it dissolve long enough. Timing was key with Alchemy it seemed. He checked and he still had some materials left over, so at least there was that. Sighing, he knew he couldn't make anything now, and decided to just do some more studying on these materials before going to sleep. Iron_Lion 1 Posted June 14, 2020 Author #4 Share Posted June 14, 2020 (edited) "Alright Akio, day two. Come on, you can do this man." It's been about a full hour since Akio had put up the tent. He'd been reading up on different materials, but didn't have time to write them all down just yet. He'd need to get out and find more materials too. Not just so that he had enough to make salves out of, but so that he'd have a lot of variety and options to make potions and stuff out of.... What? He wanted to have fun with this, that wasn't a crime. At any rate, he closed his lorebook and sent it into his inventory once again. Pulling out an apple, he began to munch on it as he walked over to his table with ingredients and pulled out two green petal daisies. The first one he grabbed was the leftovers of the flower he had managed to salvage. The second was just a full green petal daisy. That left one green petal daisy in the flower jar. He was going to need to harvest a few more of them it would seem. Taking a deep breath and sighing, he turned and headed over to the workplace. Maybe he'd take on the 'Nature's Treasure' quest. According to it's description, it was designed to make material gathering less of a chore. But for now, he had to focus on his work. He placed the full flower on the left side of his empty table space, and the dismembered flower on the right side of his empty table space. The dismembered flower was missing half of it's petals, as Akio wanted to try attempting a potion with only half of the petals. It was an experiment, to see if he needed the entire thing, or if he could get away with something else. The stem was still whole of course, meaning that he could save that for another day. Akio took the loose petals on his right side, and dropped them into the mortar. He began to grind and mash them until they were finely ground to a mash. He poured the contents into the boiler and let it dissolve the petals. Once it did he turned a knob and the liquid began to be sucked into a tube, up into the glass funnel. Akio thought it would be more fun if he made the process more automated, and it kind of was! He watched as the liquid dripped into the filter, and the refined liquid dripped down onto the bone meal below. He took two spoons and mixed the bone meal and liquid very finely until it was finally the perfect texture. That's when the experience points hit home. "I, did it?" His face lit up and he jumped in the air. "I did it!!! I crafted my first perfect item!! This is so awesome!" He grinned as he looked at it. The paste was green, and although Akio knew it was toxic venom, he also knew the system only activated it's properties when it was applied to an item. Until then, he put a cap on it and placed it with the other salve of his. Grinning with excitement he went to use the other material up. He did the same process as last time. He carefully plucked the petals off, though something about the petals seemed, off to Akio. He then put them in the mortar and started to grind them. For some reason they ended up a bit more mushed than ground... It was probably nothing. He put it in the cauldron and that's when it happened. Sparks flew, the liquid splashed everywhere and smoke poofed into the air. Akio looked at the ground and saw he missed a petal. He picked it up and inspected it closely. "...Black splotches? You mean it was bad?" He sighed before he noticed that the stem was still intact. After examining it, he confirmed that it was still fresh and returned it to his inventory. ".....Right, I'm done for the day." Iron_Lion 1 Posted June 15, 2020 Author #5 Share Posted June 15, 2020 (edited) Akio finished setting up his tent and putting all of the items in their designated places. He smiled, really really glad that he was able to give Kaya his little thank you present. He hadn't expected her to use it right off of the bat, but at the same time he couldn't fault her for it. She was the 'in the now' person while he was the 'think ahead' kind of guy. Maybe in the future they could make a great team. He didn't think she'd like the idea of assassinations though. If they did though, again, they'd likely make a great team. He wondered if she'd take on stealth skills too. She had a dagger after all, and if she did take up stealth then they could both grab the opposite mod. One of them could focus on DoT while the other on raw damage. But enough of that right now. He had to try and focus on making a toxic venom for himself now. He made a firm nod. One healing paste and one toxic venom. He took the stem that was left over from his previous day of crafting and instead of just mashing it up, decided to try something new. He took a pair of tiny scissors and began to clip the single stem from the green petal daisy, and cut it into five individual segments. He then dropped them all in the mortar, ground it up, dumped the grounds into the boiler, dissolved it, drained it into the glass funnel, dripped it through the filter, and into the bone meal waiting in the tin before mixing it and getting that sweet healing salve. At least. That's what he wanted to do. However after the third 'snip' of the stem, creating four pieces, all of the stem shattered immediately. "What the?! What happened???" He took another green petal daisy and severed the stem from the petals like usual. He snipped the stem again, only this time he had the item's menu up the whole time. Wait, so with each alteration I make to the material, the more it's durability drops? The item had evidently already lost a third of it's durability just from him taking the petals off. Losing it's durability, he was guessing, didn't make the item less valuable or worse quality. Only when the item lost all it's durability did something bad happen. Namely, the loss of a material. Which in this case happened yet again as the stem shattered. Uttering a small curse he looked at the petals he pulled off before snipping the stem. It would seem that if you severed one half of it, the other half would be undamaged. Or maybe it was only because the petals and the stem had two separate properties entirely... Akio wasn't really sure to be honest. Either way, he'd run out of crafting attempts. So he figured he'd just hit the hay again. Iron_Lion 1 Posted June 16, 2020 Author #6 Share Posted June 16, 2020 (edited) Alright, so. He still hadn't been able to craft Kaya's toxic venom today either... Total bust. What the worst part of all this was... Today he ended up destroying the last material he had which could make the toxic venom salve.. He sighed in frustration as he thought about what had potentially gone wrong. Alchemy was tricky, he knew this but still. The timing was just sooooo hard to get!!! Today he'd boiled the petals of the green petal daisy waaaay too long and ended up not just dissolving it enough to be transported via liquid and absorbed into the bone meal, but enough to the point where it literally vaporized and all that was left in the boiler was hot boiling water. He had to start keeping notes in his Loremaster. Notes on which parts held which properties, how to prepare it, what and where the timing procedures were, and other such stuff. This was fun to do, but it was also a pain. A really big pain. Groaning in agony he kicked at the air for a few minutes. That wasn't his only failure either. He also attempted to craft items out of the fae flower. He did learn something new from this of course: Not every part of the material was usable. He learned the hard way that it wasn't the flower's petals, nor it's stem, but it's leaves alone which held the antidote properties. When he tried boiling it, the leaves had shimmered a bit before dissolving, while the others just made the water a bit gray. I found out that if you boil and dissolve a part of a material, if it turns gray that normally means it has no properties. It wasn't a total waste of course. I managed to create a salve which when applied generates the sparkle animation in an aura like sense. It was fun at first, but I think I'd much rather apply it to my familiar when I get one, rather than to myself. Still haven't figured out how to color the sparkles though. Iron_Lion 1 Posted June 18, 2020 Author #7 Share Posted June 18, 2020 (edited) Well. He still crafted sh*t, but this time he got a real reward out of it. This time, he had managed to increase his rank to the next rank! Sure he may have lost another fae flower due to him realizing that boiling the leaves wasn't how to make an antidote with the fae flower, and that he needed to grind it to a mush instead. And sure he may have failed to craft a salve out of the glow shroom (though he miraculously had salvaged it due to him using only the stalk of the mushroom and not the cap). But it was worth it! Because now he could craft up to THREE times a day, and on top of that, his crafting skills had increased! And he noticed a change in it too! When he checked a material that could be used in alchemy, he could now see all it's alchemical properties just by looking at it's menu! In addition to that, he sometimes got a hint from the system as to which part would have what properties, making it less likely for him to screw up. Of course this was only the start. Eventually he'd be getting better at keeping things boiling and brewing at just the right amount of time, chop or snip a part of the material just enough times, and of course. The very next rank was going to grant him access to crafting potions! He had access to tier two items right now, but that was basically useless to him. Additionally, after some more reading up on the alchemy profession, he realized that he had the potential to make twice the number of items. He hummed in thought as he looked at his work set. "Maybe I should go shopping for more supplies and tools..." Iron_Lion 1 Posted June 18, 2020 Author #8 Share Posted June 18, 2020 (edited) With renewed energy knowing that he had finally increased his rank in the alchemy profession from one to two, he set up his alchemy tent a bit early today. He really wanted to get to the third rank as quickly as possible. That's where the more complex and fun activity of crafting potions was. And, seeing as how he only had one point of experience in, he had to hurry up with the process. Thankfully, he was now able to make three attempted crafts rather than only two of them. Three attempts to get it right. While he didn't have any replacement materials for the toxic venom enhancement, he still had other materials he could craft from that might prove useful. For instance, the glow shroom could be used to craft the enhancement known as pheromones, which was specifically designed to give the player a subtle boost when attempting to tame your familiar. It couldn't help you find one, but that wasn't really an issue if you had patience. Though, if he was being honest, Akio likely wouldn't feel very patient when the time came. Maybe he should buy a familiar sight song... Either way, Akio was eager to jump straight into his crafting session. Taking his collection of three materials, instead of two he thought with a giggle of delight, he set them to the side to prepare. The first material was the Fae Flower. In order to make an antidote with it, he needed to use the Fae Flower's leaves rather than it's petals or stem. And since he really had no need for sparkling paste right now, he'd go ahead and just leave it unused. Akio took the hand clips and clipped the leaf off. Then he did the traditional grinding the two leaves into a mush. He found out the hard way he needed to do this instead of boil it the last time. It didn't exactly look like complete mush, as there were some bumpy stuff in there but he really couldn't alter it no matter how hard he tried so he just let it go. Then he started mixing it with the bone meal and- BAM A small spark and pop followed by a stream of smoke came from his work. "What?! Come on?! Wait a minute... Don't tell me the middle thing on the leaf counts as the stem too?!" So he was going to have to clip the leaf off, and then carefully peel the two halves of the leaf off of the tiny thin stem that they connected to... That was gonna be a pain, but at least he knew how now. Moving on to the glow shrooms, he knew that they had two properties. The glowing cosmetic was found in the cap, while antioxidants was within the stalk. But the pheromones enhancement, he could now see, was in the spores within the cap. Meaning that instead of cutting stuff off, or mashing it and boiling it, he needed to shake the spores of the mushroom directly into the boiler. He went ahead and did this, but ended up putting too much into the boiler, resulting in a rare craft. But he had one more attempt left.
