NIGHT 0 Posted July 31, 2020 Author #21 Share Posted July 31, 2020 [Marquis]: Uh, right-- Weaver takes off before he can even register Marquis' words. [Marquis]: Goddammit. He nearly runs into K9's back as the axe wielder paces backwards, letting out a breathy exhale. [Weaver]: Watch it! [K9]: Crap! K9 jumps at the man's outburst, nearly toppling off the railing in fright. His wheel around to face Weaver only brings misfortune, a Ningen he was chased by bouncing upwards to start on a flying kick. Not on the claw-user's watch. He grabs it by the ankle right as it comes into range and throws the creature overboard instead. K9 looks relatively panicked as Weaver's violets settle on him, his eyes flashing a known irritance for his involvement on board. [K9]: S-sorry, uh-- Weaver ditches the conversation, leaving only a bumbling K9 alone with his failed line. The martial artist chases down the partially cleared deck to find the other two passengers clearing out the rest of the pack onboard. NIGHT 0 Posted August 1, 2020 Author #22 Share Posted August 1, 2020 It is NIGHT who utters a curse of disdain for her opponents as she completely misses a handful of her targets, managing only to sever one from reality. The scattered shards do nothing to illuminate their surroundings, but the walking snow forms needed no light to indicate their presence. Weaver grabs hold of an escapee and attempts to shatter it with his claw. Unfortunately, it wriggles free with a kick, its health bar only half missing from his attack. He feels the impact on the side of his cheek, rubbing the spot out with the ball of his palm. [Weaver]: You've got to be kidding me. DAY clears out another group around them, sending the last of their foes flying off the deck with a thrown axe lodged in the Ningen's face. They turn around to check on NIGHT's clearance progress. 25% wasn't too great. [Weaver]: Did you even manage to hit any of them? Spoiler ID: 162379 | BD: 5 (1, +4) | MD: -1 (1, -2) NIGHT missed! NIGHT 0 Posted August 1, 2020 Author #23 Share Posted August 1, 2020 [NIGHT]: It happens. With DAY's weapon already coated in light, it was difficult to read their movements timed with their strikes. They garner a curse of surprise from Weaver when they unleash another blow towards an escaping Ningen, axe thrown in the man's direction, only barely his cheek by a few centimeters. [DAY]: Oh, whoops! Sorry, didn't see you there. NIGHT snorts, fishing out a piece of squid from her pockets just as Weaver grumbles in the entity's direction. [Weaver]: Cocky. [NIGHT]: It happens. [DAY]: It was totally an accident. Honest. The player chews on her ikayaki slice. The hulking shadowy form seems to glare daggers in DAY's direction first, before his eyes dart to the side, yanking a Ningen off its feet. His weapon bites down on its head with a clench of his fingers, and in seconds it's turned into nothing but ash. Weaver turns around, dripping with venom. [Weaver]: That could be you. NIGHT 0 Posted August 1, 2020 Author #24 Share Posted August 1, 2020 [DAY]: Wait, was that a threat or a jab at accuracy? [Weaver]: Both. [NIGHT]: ...I could duel you. Half match? Weaver growls and huffs. NIGHT watches the man shift about in the dark. [Weaver]: Shut up. Mop the deck. He darts off towards the side of the boat, spying a straggler still on board. NIGHT barely has the time to give her rebuttal before another smear of white catches her eye. [NIGHT]: ... [NIGHT]: ...Thanks. How many more of them are there? DAY lets their shield dissipate, arms crossed behind their head. [DAY]: A couple. The player waves her blade around, watching the lone Ningen dart around in a panic. [NIGHT]: Right. The swordswoman takes off after it, the glow that sprawls across her steel somewhat unnatural as to her most often used arts. She follows Cardinal's guidance into a hefty uppercut once her target pauses, the following white slash through the Ningen's thighs erasing it from reality entirely. NIGHT 0 Posted August 1, 2020 Author #25 Share Posted August 1, 2020 [DAY]: And that's it, actually. The sword withers away in her hands as NIGHT sets her gaze on the river ahead. Outlines of waves can still be made out against the void. Overhead, she swears she spies the faintest glimpse of a refrigerator light up against the tunnel's ceiling. One glance tells her otherwise, though something fades away as she strains to look. DAY makes their way over to her side. The duo is called to by the captain from the flybridge. He leans against the rails by the wheel. [seiche]: Weaver give you trouble? [NIGHT]: Somewhat. We can handle it. [seiche]: Hey, don't mind him on our account. He's just mad because we're all borrowing his ship, that's all. Marquis enters the scene. NIGHT unfurls an empty map in her hands and eavesdrops in on the two players making conversation. NIGHT 0 Posted August 1, 2020 Author #28 Share Posted August 1, 2020 | An Abandoned Lighthouse The Bumblebee docks at the edge of the isle. Up ahead on a hill stands a dilapidated lighthouse, the road to which is teeming with sea devils that pay the players no mind. Three figures shuffle off the boat. K9 is the last to join them, a painting of surprise on his face. He shoots a look back to seiche still on board, the lighting on the land chasing away permanent shadows that haunt the rest of the cavern. [K9]: It was the refrigerator, wasn't it? [seiche]: Don't look at me. It really be like that sometimes. [Marquis]: I wish the Zero would make some lick of sense. I mean, refrigerator? The change in atmosphere? Why even have a lighthouse here in the middle of nowhere if there's little to no reason to stop? K9 turns to the party. [K9]: Um, we figured that It's for training. It used to matter once. Though, it's not like most travelers need to stop for anything like these nowadays. [Marquis]: Eh? So, why did we? [seiche]: I want a break! Cut me one! Silence hangs over the squad for a moment. [NIGHT]: I'll go. It's good experience, isn't it? I'll need it. [K9]: Wow, look at you! Want a guide or something? I can at least carry a torch for you ladies if it'll help. NIGHT 0 Posted August 4, 2020 Author #29 Share Posted August 4, 2020 [♬] Her initiation of the fight comes as a blur, despite her form standing out from the olive trodden field around her. The player rushes into the fray right when she's certain there would be no other quandaries to swamp their efforts in combat -- no second guessing their destination, no quips from the back seat players idling up on the ship. Her first blow connects with the four enemies most closest to her. With precision and expertise, she finds herself drawing first blood before K9 and Marquis can round up just as many to their attention. Her brighter counterpart on the other hand seemed to show off the fighting duo's prowess furthermore. When NIGHT kicked off her heels to a charge, DAY had burst off at the same speed, only a second behind her companion. Their blows were sharp, ruthless, and so too did her pack fall as easily as NIGHT's did to her own. NIGHT 0 Posted August 4, 2020 Author #30 Share Posted August 4, 2020 It was of grave surprise to the other two players that they'd been outclassed with minimal effort. [K9]: Fast! NIGHT started mowing down a path towards the interior of the lighthouse's front yard. Her darting for the eastern region of the isle told her mirror to head west instead, and as the duo split ways to cull the sea devil army, Marquis found herself finishing up on her assaulting terrors too. Ice and light weren't the only two tricks up her sleeve. Whilst she'd managed to pin down three of them with little fanfare, the fourth had struck a nerve with her sword, calling forth the elements that rested beneath its steel. A divine beam, the rupture of ice through the mud below were familiar -- then came the red slits that sliced at her last opponent's skin and scales. As though it needed to be further ruined by her attack. The sea devil was shredded in seconds, the player advancing forth to help the other women up ahead. NIGHT 0 Posted August 4, 2020 Author #31 Share Posted August 4, 2020 No way K9 was going to let himself be outclassed. His weapon type held the strongest multi-target potential, and yet he was getting beat by players of less dramatic arts? How could he fail his own AoE squad like that? Nah, nah. He'd push through for the sake of the two-handed axe users out there. For starters, with his sea devils on the snapping offensive, he'd ended up with his his cleaver's blade in the jaws of one of them on accident. With great effort, he finally manages to haul the thing out its grasp. Watching Marquis chase down another set in the corner of his vision only fuels his determination even more to clear his group. Throwing his form up into the air in a spin, K9 tosses out bolt after bolt of energy against his foes, emptying their health gauges completely and dispersing their forms to the ether. NIGHT 0 Posted August 4, 2020 Author #32 Share Posted August 4, 2020 Marquis works fast, rushing in to unleash hell against the sea devils between the party and the door. When K9 lands, hers is the only pack that's in immediate range, health still above that approximate 70% mark. [K9]: Don't mind if I tag in! He readies another Exploding Catapult, and the woman takes a hop backwards, hand still gripping the hilt of her katana. [Marquis]: Feel free! Before any of the river dwellers can snap at the player, K9's weapon had stopped them in their tracks, its curved edge crashing down upon their snouts without mercy. On two of them, he feels his weapon rumble with dissonant malice, stopping his foes in their tracks completely, a paralytic effect rooting them to the ground. Marquis rushes in to cull the meek, ridding reality of the squadron of hostiles with a series of horizontal cuts. They head straight for the door once they are finished with their work. NIGHT 0 Posted August 4, 2020 Author #33 Share Posted August 4, 2020 NIGHT and DAY only barely manage to meet them there at the same time -- a few seconds short, each of them, NIGHT taking the longest overall time for her trek. Her delay had been a mess up from one of her attacks missing a foe. She kept it to herself how her counterpart's actions had always been perfect. No doubt it would have been the same for these enemies. K9 looks over the two of them, arms folded, impressed. [K9]: You two really give us a run for our money! [DAY]: Thanks! I try. DAY delivers their line with sweetness and a performative humility with their body language. What a showoff. NIGHT rolled her eyes and averts her gaze just as Marquis turned to face the lighthouse's entrance. [Marquis]: Any idea what'll be inside? [K9]: Is it locked? [Marquis]: No, but I'm really not looking forward to discovering a group of fallen NPCs or something in that vein. Uh, no-- offense...? NIGHT 0 Posted August 4, 2020 Author #34 Share Posted August 4, 2020 DAY only tilts their head at the comment. At the same time, the player pushes open the door. A light flood of water seeps past the entryway and spills out onto the grass. It wets Marquis' boots somewhat. [K9]: At least the isle will be watered. She sticks her head in, looking about for any signs of immediate danger. Nothing of the sort, so she wanders inwards, the party trailing behind and watching their shoes. On the left, there appears to be a basement of sorts. However, the stairwell downwards is flooded. [DAY]: No going that way, then. [K9]: Unless you're keen for a dip in the water? [NIGHT]: I'll save our chances for something else, thank you. Marquis examines the stairs leading upwards, on the right of the lighthouse. As expected, there are many flights, but what bothers the woman a little more are the traces of combat left in the stone of the tower's interior. NIGHT 0 Posted August 4, 2020 Author #35 Share Posted August 4, 2020 Her fingers trace over the indentations. Some rubble trickles off, and her skin feels as though it is laced with dust. [Marquis]: I'm assuming this is permanent? [K9]: Never been on a dungeon run before? K9 trots over, a hand folded into his pocket. He takes a look at the marks, before his eyes follow the flights upwards, taking a moment to examine their elevated surroundings better. [Marquis]: None of them were like this. [NIGHT]: Seconded. I was under the impression that it was mostly monsters after monsters. [Marquis]: There's nothing too bad about that, I think. [K9]: You're right, there isn't. K9 flexes his fingers in his open hand. He ascends the steps momentarily, stopping on his eighth before raising his head upwards a little more. [K9]: Think we've got company -- but it's really difficult to figure out what they are... [Marquis]: Huh? [K9]: No claws, just somewhat glowing orbs, I think...? K9 whistles. [K9]: Nevermind. I figured dungeon runs would've been different than these, too. [Marquis]: 'Pot calling the kettle black'... Spoiler ID: 163010 | LD: 16 (8, +8+2) | Dungeon search: Nothing found. > Next dungeon find attempt available on #45. > Two turns have passed since combat. NIGHT 0 Posted August 4, 2020 Author #36 Share Posted August 4, 2020 NIGHT begins ascending the steps the moment K9 begins to move upwards himself. DAY follows behind, eyes exploring the ancient structure's walls. The lighthouse's interior is yellowed, but the brick remains smooth though it is found to be collapsing. Their tower is lit slightly by a cyan glow from above. Marquis is overtaken by the pair, but she joins the train once she completes her inspection. It is K9 who gets struck first. A watery blast from one of the spotted orbs sends him reeling, his back meeting the rubble behind him. DAY hastens their ascension, pulling the player up before they're able to topple downwards completely. It wouldn't hurt, but it certainly wouldn't feel comfortable, either. [DAY]: You alright? [K9]: Peachy...! The knight turns her head to look. A revealed health gauge signifies the presence of an enemy, somehow still recovering from its attack with the lack of a follow-up strike. NIGHT 0 Posted August 4, 2020 Author #37 Share Posted August 4, 2020 The flash in NIGHT's hand was all Marquis needed to quicken her rise. [Marquis]: Hostiles? [K9]: Yeah-- just gimmie a moment. NIGHT brandishes her sword, keeping watch for the orb's attack. When it fires, it targets K9 once more. DAY is quicker, though. They scoop up K9 in a bridal carry (It's natural, then?) and leap upwards, leaving the water bolt to splash unseemly against the lighthouse's barriers. [K9]: A-are you kidding? [Marquis]: Nice! [NIGHT]: What's up there? [DAY]: Um-- Three more bolts fire at DAY's position. The entity continues their ascent, finding their feet meeting flat land once the attacks have died down. [DAY]: There's more of them; be careful! The player nods, as Marquis heeds their warning while proceeding on a direct route. From NIGHT's angle, she's just below the cerulean sphere, it sitting unmoved right by the ledge she's beside. She scrambles upwards, hauling herself up with the system's guidance. Not like the orb had eyes. But its attack left it open for a beat down. NIGHT shoots down the other orbs in the vicinity before they have a chance to strike. NIGHT 0 Posted August 4, 2020 Author #38 Share Posted August 4, 2020 The flat ground that NIGHT had pulled herself onto and that DAY had halted momentarily at was a break in the stairwell to open up a floor for space. There are multiple broken crates scattered around the room, creating crevices with which the hostiles were able to hide in. Once it might've been living quarters for the ones who resided here. Now, it houses multiple sea creatures that defend its premises with water attacks. Lamp Marimos. A sudden assault from the other balls in the room leads Marquis to stop for a moment to watch her step. Their bolts hit nothing but air and cobble as DAY does their best to weave through the missiles. When they stop, so does the moving entity, and they set K9 down proper, though the man fumbles with trying to get off himself. [K9]: T-thanks? U-um... [DAY]: No problem! The smile they shoot him is genuine -- it's little wonder why he grins back with a faint blush. Meanwhile, NIGHT continues her work to tear apart the enemies, blade cutting through what once appeared to be sparkling light. NIGHT 0 Posted August 4, 2020 Author #39 Share Posted August 4, 2020 It was just a ball of moss, though. NIGHT finds herself thankful that the vegetation scattered the moment its host vanished from reality. As DAY left the range of the stairwell, Marquis finally found herself able to join the fray. Her first move sends her form lunging towards a cyan target, the player's draw fast for the eye to see. It's powerful enough to send a minor shock wave of light across the vicinity -- three of the marimos had their health cut down in half. The move tears DAY's attention back to the matter at hand, and she summons a small warhammer as K9 bumbles around joyfully. [K9]: H-Hey, NIGHT? Is she always? like this-- oh... His query falls on deaf ears and only putters out of existence the moment he turns to follow the NPC's gait. Right, they were in combat. What exactly was he doing? Shaking his head, K9 regenerates his weapon to his grasp, before diving into the fight. Spoiler ID: 163204 | BD: 5 (1, +4) | MD: 5 (7, -2) NIGHT missed! Lamp Marimo #5 missed! NIGHT 0 Posted August 4, 2020 Author #40 Share Posted August 4, 2020 K9's strike dives deep into the heart of one of the marimos, and it stays lodged on his blade as he swings it around to strike a few others around him. The orb finally bounces off after the sword art fades from his steel, seemingly unharmed despite its health gauge indicating otherwise. It rolls harmlessly to the side. [K9]: What was so dangerous about these things again? His own health bar had been restored to full during the interim -- NIGHT takes a moment to glance at the party's status, during which a water jet strikes her right in the face. She says nothing, instead deciding to shove her weapon's edge through the ball of moss that had just struck her. It scatters into sparkles as she wipes her eyes away with her jacket's sleeve. [K9]: Waggh! Her head turns around just in time to notice K9's struggles with the marimos. He shakes his head vigorously, trying to dry himself of their attacks.
