[SP/F6] The Gemini

Recommended Posts

The other day Freyd had given her the advice to take The Gemini quest as soon as possible with an immolation potion. She had done a little bit of research in the guild hall alongside Katoka, and even asked Raidou what he would recommend to yoink from the vault to take with her. He had given her a very valuable piece, one that had been aged and treasured. A minimalist design leaving no room for gaps, yet not impeding its user's range of movement. As its item type suggests, it's a hefty item- but it would supposedly be extremely helpful for this quest in particular. The redhead was in no way doubting the information she had been given or any story told about it. She was definitely sure that it would hold up to its legend. Vie stood appreciating her guild's generosity in the middle of Krycim, the floor's main settlement. She felt entirely sure of herself as if she were invincible with this gauntlet, sure that she would return it back to its rightful owner afterwards.

Though the quest diagnostics she'd examined at the guild hall had detailed the enemy she needed to fight in depth, they hadn't quite touched on the location the fight would take place at. She begins her endeavor by questioning where such a creature would be in the first place while venturing a little into the bush. Obviously the immense amount of overgrown nature- trees, stones, shrubs- would help them keep hidden, right? But where would the hide? Vie, though unsure, stayed determined to figure out their location. She began by overturning rocks, whacking branches out of her way, and cutting large tufts of grass that had emerged from the ground. Overall, though it was quite therapeutic to clean up the messy terrain, she felt hopeless when it came to actually completing the quest thus far. 'Perhaps they're further out,' she considered, expanding her search further from the main village that perhaps fended off the beast based off of pure population intimidation alone. If this was true, the mob being frightened of humans, surely it would hide from where humans would venture. So the mob has got to be where no user would dare go. Vie hadn't a clue where this would be, but she definitely intended on finding it.

Vie continued to question where such a creature would be internally while clearing a path in the direction of where she felt might possibly house the enemy based on pure gut feeling alone. Though it was unlikely she find the enemy through this tactic, she felt like it was the best option. Besides, if worst comes to worse- she'll just turn back around and try again tomorrow. Eventually she and her blade come across various reptiles, the sound of a rattlesnake- a few small lizards crawling up the bark of nearby massive trees and some scuttering away from her on the ground. She moved fast- just a few minutes and she would have a couple feet cleared. Despite this she felt like she was getting nowhere- like this had all been for nothing internally. She sighs and takes a small break, sitting near the base of the tree and staring up at the canopy, wiping her forehead of the sweat that had gathered. The feeling of being rather drenched isn't very nice she began to realize.

It was an unfamiliar feeling, and definitely an uncomfortable one. The feeling of moving in overwhelming heat and 'heavy atmosphere'. This dense jungle and humidity had been rather unhelpful, the large fertalage and fragments of nature impeding her vision while the heat and rain stifled her morale... Eventually she was just tired out and decided to turn back to the village's center to relax for a while, perhaps it would be cooler there where people knew how to survive in this sort of climate better and such. She stands up and dusts herself off a little, deciding to return to the floor's main settlement. Perhaps she could ask around about the quest as many adventurers likely have talked about it to them before. This would require that she dust off her socializing skills, but she didn't mind too much. Besides, perhaps they would have some new interesting things to say to her. Now hoping to socialize with the townsfolk in exchange for information, she quickens her pace hoping this would allow her to return faster rather than worn out.

Finally- she arrived at her destination... Rain begins falling through the canopy that she had thought was there to provide shade and cover- though it was terrible its job. She looks around town, realizing that most market stalls had been sort of abandoned as if on schedule with the rain. Seeing one person just seemingly closing up, she jogs towards them, panting when she arrives. "P-Please- I need shelter from the rain too. I'm unsure where there are any inns nearby. I'll be out of your hair when it clears up. Can you help me? Pretty pleaaase?" She asks in a rush, clearly just trying to escape from the rain as she didn't want to catch a cold or anything. The old lady NPC she had approached feels concern for the young redhead and allows her to take refuge inside her quaint residence, "Sure. The rain here doesn't last too long, the marketplace will likely reopen in a little while as it's not yet too late for customers," she says, reassuring the redhead that it isn't too late to have returned. Vie enters the residence, curious at all of the ancient artifacts she had strewed about while taking a seat at one of the edges of the wooden table near the NPC's kitchen. The old lady had been selling fruit, and her kitchen definitely reflected that. A large perhaps unhealthy amount of fruit in her fruit bowl, many pastry cook books, and furniture made of a brighter wood nearly the color of some sort of fantasy fruit Vie imagined.

The NPC, had changed into dry clothes likely the same she originally had before they had gotten wet in the downpour. "This floor frequently rains. In response shops often close and reopen at strange times depending on the rain, it's a bad system- I know... We've just gotten used to it. It's sort of... bad for business hence the old architecture and historical inscriptions, that we're mostly known for..." The heavy woman says, floorboards creaking as she maneuvers around the kitchen fluidly as one might when they're used to the terrain. She reaches up to cover her mouth in a bewildered fashion, "Oh, where are my manners? I'm Beatrice. Pleasure to meet you. Why did you come here, player? Any particular reason or way I can help you?" Her hand returns to her side as she questions, going about her business and looking in the fridge for a snack as she had been a bit peckish.

As the female begins prattling on, Vie takes a step back to appreciate how she had made this little house her home. She had decorated it quite cutely, though obviously it's little old and rustic by nature. Vie then realizes that the woman had stopped talking, and begins her own introduction. "Ah, I'm Vie... An adventurer that wants to do the Gemini quest, is there any chance you would happen to know anything about that?" The redhead asks the NPC, tilting her head in curiosity.

The NPC listens to the small gal, a bit unsure how to be of help to her. "Well, Vie, I don't know whether this has anything to do with this 'Gemini quest' you speak of, but I've heard that there's a peculiar cloaked creature going out and asking players to fight them near the ruins. Perhaps that might be good to have on your radar," Beatrice speaks while pulling out a turkey sandwich and splitting it into triangles, taking a seat at another side of the square table. She brings the sandwich up to her mouth and takes a bite into it.

The redhead listens to her words closely as the rain outside ceases its excessive amounts of noise against the roof. The sky seemingly clearer than it had been, Vie finnicks with her clothing trying to seem presentable, "Thank you for letting me stay here for a little while." The girl speaks, seemingly taking her leave. Beatrice calls after her in concern, "Do be wary if you plan to go after it, I don't want a horror story about your brutal death circulating. Take care of yourself, Y'hear?" Vie smiles, glad that this NPC had been so caring towards her as well as possible previous players. The woman had motivated her quite a bit, the girl had been thankful to her. She responds with, "Thanks Beatrice. Hope things get better for you," and waves as she exits the building to continue her quest.

After the brief downtime, Vie had received rather valuable information she'd been truly grateful for. She looks around town for anything that may indicate where these Ruins were. Thankfully some NPCs began setting up their shop once more- just as Beatrice said they might. She asks one by the name of Robert to the whereabouts of the ruins, and heads towards the direction that he indicates... While there was some sort of trail through the vegetation towards the ruins, it seemed like mother nature was trying to take back her territory impeding the path's ability to be a path. Small weeds and bush would force their way through the pathway in order to grow causing cracks and other normally unsightly issues. Vie doesn't pay any mind to this, stepping on any vegetation in her way in order to get to the quest and finish it as fast as possible. She didn't want to be known as the one who made Raidou wait.

Finally- she had found the ruins Beatrice had been referring to in her story. With brief glances at the inscriptions hidden about on stone columns, this place had quite the history. Though its withered and decayed buildings made of some sort of stone clay told that same story to about everyone who had passed by she assumed. Soon enough, a hooded figures comes out from behind some pillar remnants, approaching Vie. "You look pretty strong," there's a certain mystique in their voice. They offer a simple challenge, "I'm looking to test my skills. If you beat me, I'll teach you a hidden skill. What do you say?" Vie, of course, accepts it excited to learn of this skill. They travel a little further from the ruins to a suitable place that had been relatively cleared out likely due to the redhead. The man turns to face Vie, pulling his hood down. It was as if she was looking in a mirror. Everything from their facial features to their equipment appeared entirely identical. Apparently this challenge held much more depth than she had initially thought.

Vie is extremely confused as to how her foe had replicated her appearance, but ultimately assumes this is due to the vast amount of intellect he held- just as he was going to teach her a few new things, he probably had many more tricks up his sleeve. The girl felt as if she should be cautious in this situation. It's then that she realizes that the clearing has a rather stable stone base to it, not only that but it's marked with lines... As if it's meant to have bouts in. This means that not only were they expecting to have more matches in the future, but they also were likely well trained in battle. The two take their stance at their respective indicated sides- bending their knees, and pointing their rapiers at each other. (If there were any form of battle music, it would start at this moment). They move away from one another in unison, neither wanting to be caught off guard as they knew this hadn't been some sort of leisure activity- rather an event to be prideful of. This victory would be an achievement of its very own. "To the victor go the spoils." The redhead says, feeling like she ought to say something akin to the phrase while in such a match.

*Ding ding ding!* The metaphorical bell would've rang indicating that it was the start of a match. She was extremely nervous in her movements, her head foggy which is not exactly something one would want in a fight... Nevertheless, the show must go on. At the beginning of the first round, her opponent begins advancing towards her with quick steps- sort of crouching and jump-stepping forward- something similar to a balestra. Vie thought this looked quite unnatural and scary as it might for anyone unfamiliar with fencing. Vie moves backwards attempting to analyse her opponent's moves and properly get used to person-to-person combat (to some degree) meanwhile the gemini closes in. This takes her off guard a bit, not used to such sharp objects being close to her nor fighting another human being. She trips backwards and onto the ground leaving her wide open for her opponent to possibly attack. The girl sort of covers herself hoping to not get hit, meanwhile the gemini lunges at her standing silhouette, not realizing that she had collapsed.

Surprised that the gemini hadn't noticed her fall, the girl gets back up dusts herself off. The two return to their separate sides. Just as each were going to make this a fair fight, they were sure they'd win despite their flaws. Next round. This time Vie felt more confident in herself, and as such she moved forward quite a bit, however her enemy moved forward more so causing her to move back a bit, leaving room between them so she could get in some sort of sneak attack maybe. Meanwhile her enemy lunged forward for an attack. Vie parried, blocking their blade and immediately going for an offensive attack when the gemini would've least expected her to do so. This was a wonderful plan, except they had fully expected her to do so. Promptly blocking the attack, they each returned to their sides once more. Vie could tell this was going to be a long battle and let out a lengthy sigh while shaking her head.

This time it'd been different, each decided to keep their distance until the time was right. They each inched forward a little bit at a time. Baby steps. As soon as Vie got a little too close for their comfort, the gemini recklessly slashed horizontally at her, hoping this would be enough for her to keep her distance. It sent a message to Vie: Not that they were being confident in himself, rather they *needed* the space as if he was planning something. She goes along with their plan, moving backwards as her opponent lunges at her once more attacking from 3 to 7. Instead of hitting the girl, their attack hits the ground. It was a simple miscalculation, it should've tried a little harder not to miss her. The gemini sort of gets frustrated at itself, noticing that they were likely trying too hard to be mysterious and should instead be more translucent with their attacks just when she thinks they'll become simpler instead. That would take her by surprise!

They, once again, return to their sides. Each a little irritated that they have difficulty landing a hit on each other. If not attack, they each are a bit similar emotionally. While the gemini contemplates simplifying their attacks, the redhead instead considers making hers more complex thus less predictable. Nonetheless, out of frustration they each lunge at the other and swipe to attack one another not thinking about their blades possibly intersecting.  This time mid-attack Vie decides to both block her opponent's attack with her blade and hit him in the stomach with her boot, propelling herself off of him and returning to her side in one fell swoop. While this seemed sort of stupidly theatrical to the gemini, she felt proud in herself for at least causing some amount of damage to her foe. Albeit not a large amount of damage, as the girl landed a grin was plastered on her face.

Vie and her gemini each lunge forward towards the opposite side once more, neither stopping and thinking for a second considering what may otherwise be helpful to them during this situation. They were sure of themselves, sure that their blade would out maneuver the other's. Vie's blade was stopped by her gemini who both crossed paths with it and pushed against it, making the girl fall off-balance to the ground. While down, it felt like she had no time to respond internally before her enemy had attempted to pierce her armor. As this happened, the piece Raidou had given her completely negates the majority of the damage she felt would rain down upon her. Thanks to the immolation potion, the attack that was done to the girl deals damage to the opponent instead, though the gemini was unsure what had quite come back to bite him... Vie gave a smile, glad to have the support of her guild especially when in moments of need.

After the previous hit the gemini successfully landed on her, she was unable to return to her side of the combat area... In fact she was unable to move at all. A wave of electricity-looking lightning sort of mimicked her form with its various appendages. Time slowed for the redhead, utterly panicked in this state she hadn't expected to be in. She becomes frustrated at herself as she's incapable of a full range of movement and incapable of escape from any attack that may suddenly occur. When the gemini realized she hadn't moved an inch they start the round without her and quickly move forward pointing their rapier at her torso. Unfortunately it hadn't been quite quick enough as she rolls away from the blade which the merciless creature had nearly skewered into her skin. As Vie nears the side of the slightly elevated platform they were on, she properly gets back to her feet. She was now a little scared at what's possibly to come considering the unknown effect that had immobilized her momentarily and put her into a frightening vulnerable state.

Despite the fact that she had been utterly frightened by the unknown effect she had experienced, she decided that she ought to finish what she started. Once more she angles her rapier towards the beast, "Just a little more and I'll have defeated you!" She shouted, as they each screamed and ran each other in unison once more, at this point in time they were too riled up to care about the logistics and mostly just sort of fought without hiding their aggravation towards the other. Each clearly thought well of their opponent and thought the fight was worthy of their time, though the gemini felt they were at a disadvantage- they were sure that they'd win regardless. She was just a little red haired girl after all, they couldn't lose! Vie ripped a hole into the gemini's skin, the tip of her blade piercing it and letting it bleed as they jump back in fear, likely cussing themselves out internally if she had to guess.

They each stand on their opposite sides, irritated at each other visually. Similar expressions, furrowed brows, and scrunched up faces. It was amusing to see the mirrored face back at her, yet it was also quite terrifying at the same time. After enough time had passed of the two just staring, the creature decides to quickly move towards the redhead, an intimidation tactic she assumed while backing up a bit until she reached the end of the elevated platform once more. Though it was a short distance she might drop- she questioned what would happen to her if she dropped out of the ring... Just getting hit had made her become electrocuted. The idea was rather scary, but the gemini launched itself at her without any sense of mercy.  Without any thought, Vie blocks the incoming attack with a perpendicular hold from it. The blades crash together and create a loud noise that would make any bystander shiver with fear.

While the gemini continues its onslaught of attempted attacks, she fends each of them off by slashing perpendicular to the every attack. Finally, as it appears the Gemini is out of energy as they slow down, a gap in their attacks is made to where Vie is able to take action. Aiming for the shoulder which is attached to the hand that grips the rapier, Vie's blade attempts to amputate the creature's arm. Though she had been successful, the hit hadn't quite been enough to slice- instead minorly injuring it. In distress, it thrashes its blade back at her. Its lack of thought works against them as their attack is easily blocked once again. They continue to clash their swords as rain begins to fall around them, each distraught in their own way. It felt like neither would win at this rate. It was a long battle, too long for Vie's liking...

The two’s attacks became more fluid over time, finding better more efficient ways to deal with the other’s attack. ‘Soon would be the opposite’s downfall’ they each thought as both their confidence and attack speed increase. Altering their blade’s angle would allow them to strike faster, their feet began to feel lighter... They each wanted to end this fight before nightfall as to not stir up the nightlife or gain some unwarranted attention. If this ended up being a battle to the death, there would be trouble to pay. They concocted a plan for each others demise as they fought with rapiers in hand... soon the battle would end and the victor would be named! Unfortunately each ran by the same tactic, clashing blades as they each backed down and returned to their sides. 'Perhaps I'm too similar to this creature to actually defeat it,' Vie began doubting herself despite the fact that the creature had already been hit numerous times, and had been missing for the majority of the time. Even though she doubted herself, it didn't mean that she'd give up...
