NIGHT's continuous reaping of the undead souls shows no signs of stopping, the player unleashing another wave of rancor against her opponents. They seem more like victims now, with how much they struggle to free themselves from her blade's poison, or attempt to scurry towards her only to be culled before they could even reach her form. Swift as can be, she pulls a block from her pocket and chucks it at one of the creatures after pushing a button on its side. The golden crystal spins in midair, shattering completely when it hits the skull of the target NIGHT aimed at, enveloping the collier in a momentary sheen. It depletes the paralytic status none -- an observation she'd made earlier when blowing off steam on some of the miners in the area, but the act of striking her enemy without a killing blow when they were frozen felt like a violation of some sort. NIGHT 0 Posted August 15, 2020 Author #22 Share Posted August 15, 2020 Like a taunt of sorts, or an eagerness to beckon them forth to attack her. The slight jostle that the crystal caused to their disposition barely helped her nerves. And while her current pack continues to stand still, she flashes her blade at them, the full of her executioner rippling white from its tip to her grip. A flurry of slashes and her current foes were sundered, leaving behind their scattered remains which NIGHT spends no time looking upon, already scanning the vicinity for her next set of targets. This rinse and repeat pattern could only go on for so long, but her endurance for ducking in and out of reality's hold was what she'd wanted to practice whilst she and DAY were out on a walk. Might as well, she'd figured, since there were seemingly hostiles about. Hopefully, they wouldn't respawn too quickly on their way back, giving them some time to take in the sights, despite how gloomy the isle seemed to look in the shadows. They were only up there to give their other some space while cleaning up their surroundings of its rubbish. Of course, it would've gone faster if the two of them had worked on it together, but NIGHT's insistence on DAY taking a backseat for these encounters only served to bore them more -- just in a different location this time. The Gemini leans forward when a newer group in the distance was starting to get taken out, but otherwise remains statuesque on their branch. A huff, and a glance downwards -- -- and they spot him. Weaver still tailing them for... some reason or another. Right, that fight from earlier. The man was finally approaching the vast space before them, it having been cleared of undead from earlier. He stops to examine the material gathering nodes, before rising from his crouch, rounding the borders of the arena. Their descent effortless, the entity lands only a short distance away amongst the bushes. Only a couple of ruffles strikes the scavenger that an oddity is present, and it is to his surprise that DAY peeks their head out from the disturbance, doe eyes unblinking. Weaver recoils. His claw clutches his chest. [Weaver]: Jeez! Scare a man half to death why don't you, Cardinal? DAY wades their way across the vegetation over towards him. By his feet, they shoot the nodes a glance. Nothing out of the ordinary. Their gaze quickly returns to his visage, their expression remaining neutral. [DAY]: What're you looking for? Unremarkable words; a hint of nothing to be given away. Weaver exhales a staggered growl, eyes sharpening to reinforce his standard ferocity. [Weaver]: Nothing important. Honestly, I can't even say for sure what we're supposed to be searching for. His arms unfurl from his torso after being crossed -- something about the entity seems off, a league of difference in behavior from their distant associate. [Weaver]: On-- On behalf of the other two dolts. As in I'm looking for what the storekeeper wanted. Weaver combs his hair backwards, glancing toward the distant scurrying enemy pack. They let loose a collective cry from having been struck down by an invisible sender. DAY turns to look, though their blue eyes seem glazed over when they lie upon the sight. [Weaver]: ... Don't suppose an agent like you would know something about this island, would you? [DAY]: An agent? They return their gaze back at him, expression still a maintained vagueness. By his side, his clawed fingers stretch, metal husks scratching against each other in a tinkling fashion. His eyes close, but more out of contemplation than seething fury. When they open again, he nods to an absent-minded Gemini, their gaze scanning his frame to read his movements. [Weaver]: ...Figures. Then, why does she keep you around...? [DAY]: ... DAY doesn't respond. They look towards the battlefield instead, now carrying a more disjointed look than their usual composed affability. Weaver takes their silence in stride, and shrugs it off with a shake of his head. [Weaver]: Whatever. Forget about it. Not like I've heard of an escorted encyclopedia before. The man starts towards NIGHT's location, giving the vicinity a sweeping scan of any corpses left in tact. He finds quite the handful lying strewn across a half-completed set of rail tracks, the poor thing left ramshackle alongside a twin, the latter's back against a boulder. Weaver plucks it out just as DAY shuffles over, noticing his squat, and the remains of the dead dissipating away in his hands. He hears the entity's approach this time, their feet brushing against the grainy pebbles underneath, and he doesn't shudder when they speak up once more. [DAY]: What did you just pick up? [Weaver]: System tells me it's an obol. Can't figure out what it's used for... but I think it's misplaced by the game. When Weaver rises, it is with a clutched hand that he offers the coin out to DAY. The gesture takes the Gemini a moment to register, but they reciprocate with an open palm. The trinket falls gently -- safely -- onto their hand, and they examine it over with a careful eye. [Weaver]: Can you at least get in contact with a mod? A once curious look fell away into one of near absolute dread. However, hearing an objection from an official construct of the system wavered his demeanor ever so slightly, and the man gaped under DAY's deadpanned stare, searching for the words with his vision cast to the floor. [Weaver]: ... I'm really grasping at what your actual purpose is. [DAY]: That's... The doppel watches the man shift away to face the other collapsed body by the rock instead, bending over to pull another obol from its jaws. As a litter of stardust fills the space before him, DAY manages to prop the side of the coin upon their index, spinning the misshaped coin with little effort on the spot. [DAY]: How about we categorize that information as classified? [Weaver]: Classified... He grunted as he straightens his back, storing his new find away into his inventory. [Weaver]: Fine, then. A cart here and there, one still partially filled with ore, though the material seemed of little note to the personnel nearby than they might to an aspiring crafter of some repute on the isle. Tall grass and bushes lined the square all the way through, save three exits: the forest clearing, a set of stone stairs to the right, and a large mine entrance, of which the tracks withdrew into, forms fading downwards into the darkness. By the cavern's opening, NIGHT tumbles out from stealth, figure still jittering at the seams of her tracksuit. She winces as she picks herself up from the floor, dusting off the grime from her collapse. A glance over to the footsteps behind her -- the other player approaches -- and DAY was trailing behind him, lips pulling up a small smile shot her way. It's dark. Surely, it must be a hallmark for dangerous places by now, he muses, and while his eyes search for figures in the dark, the zipping effect of a distortion tells him more than he needs to about the region, and his target's whereabouts. With NIGHT constantly throwing herself into enemies, it was certain that there would be another pack waiting up ahead for her... and himself, just as DAY had warned him earlier. He barges through empty space, a lit flame upon his claw guiding his way and chasing out the shadows in his space, a myriad of shapes shifting across the uneven rigid stone walls. One too many limbs, an extra appendage upon the bones of their arms, a cross of cartilage that didn't seem like it should allow movement; it was all of that, and more, that he found bearing down against him under a blanket of dark rags, the fiend's yellow pupil a brazen fire that served to only mirror his claw's own blue. Weaver's slow gives him ample time. He winds his arm backwards, gauntlet breathing an azure flame, and he finds a grip around the skeleton's neck. Now if only it was more flesh and muscle than bones, the player would've seen an easier time clutching his victim and followed its pummeling up with a chain of strikes much more easily, fluidly. But the lack of form to the creature (and its extra disfigurements) causes the collier's third arm Weaver had half-registered in the moment to claw at his side, tracing out a red, hatched gash upon his skin. It clatters against the rock, and Weaver gets to work ripping its pieces apart, methodically, piece by piece. Like a disheveled maniac disassembling an anatomical model, the rowdy child in his festering rage leads him to scatter his findings haphazardly across the ground. They don't disappear until the reverent chips away at his health bar even further, and him completely demolishing the collier's own life from his reality. Only the plume of its being, the strange obol remains untouched amidst the rubble, and he takes it, whisking it away to his inventory when the system finally decides to take away his tantrum toy. The man's eyes resettle on the darkness. The puzzle pieces in his mind refit to guide him on his original objective; oh, right. He had to tail NIGHT again. Make sure she wouldn't be up to any trouble. Weaver sets off into the shadows once more, palm ablaze. In the back of his mind, he wonders when seiche and the others would finally realize their missing presence. Surely it wouldn't take that long. It wouldn't hurt for her to kill time on her lonesome, giving seiche's idea the benefit of the doubt, and she was hesitant with interrupting the other player's conduct whilst they were busy with their work. For the record, it did feel strange for the woman to be left idling in a space she was less than comfortable with. Even more so than her time of solitude on the Bumblebee; at least she'd been on the boat for more than a couple of seconds earlier. From the corner of her vision, sights cast over her shoulder, Marquis eyes the crafter on the other side of the room. So what kind of insurance was their captain implementing by settling her here? Odds might've been better to have her watch the boat instead. Marquis drifts back to the cases before her. Weapons set on display, clouded in shadow, gleaming metal warmed by a lantern's wavering glow. Each weapon had its own type classification, and of course the woman's gaze barely grazed the arms she couldn't possibly bear with her skill allocation. A bit of pacing around the side of the room brought her towards the katanas; a miniscule variety of swords lined up in a vertical stack in another case by the counter. None of them were as befitting the weapon tied against her belt, a hand snaking its way to rest upon the top of its hilt. So her supplement piece would have to be custom made. It's dark, of course, but a faint light from somewhere catches the glint of steel, of rubble shambled upon each other, tossed together in a haphazard disarray. He uses the light of his gauntlet to see, if only for a moment. The sheen of metal takes on an atmospheric velvet blue, and it catches the sights of the player lounging atop the junkyard heap. In the middle of a small mine, no less. [NIGHT]: Oh. NIGHT's eyes are bright, in the way that cats' eyes were reflective, eerily, purple and pink and red in the dark. Her legs shift one way or another, dangling off one side of the disheveled structure, all framework and no meat; bones scattered around its base, like an offering to a long forgotten industrial god. It's hard to tell in the dark, but Weaver can catch it, in the way her lips split apart for a brief moment. When her face shifts, its as though she regrets the thought. She changes the topic just before Weaver could open his own to speak. [NIGHT]: So what's the emergency? He pauses. The flame on Weaver's gauntlet seems to glow a bit brighter at the furrowing of his brow. [Weaver]: You. Running off to somewhere dangerous. Again. Did you know-- [NIGHT]: I can handle my own. I don't need a baby sitter. The back of her shoes slam against one side of the structure she's sitting on. It's an old, deathly sound. The disjointed parts still struggling to hang on squeak and shudder and clatter together, screaming out for a mercy NIGHT wasn't going to give them even in death. Bits and pieces of rock fall from the ceiling, but in Aincrad it was unlikely a cave in were to happen. Cardinal needs these undead zombies. [Weaver]: What are you doing? [NIGHT]: Bet you didn't know this thing was here. Weaver narrows his eyes for a moment. He starts to walk around the heap, towards its front; one side of it is leaned up against the wall in a healthy support. The rust and metal reveals itself to the light, in darkened shadows washed over with a blue hue. NIGHT tracks him, eyes glowing once her face and figure returns to the darkness. Weaver learns that there is an overbearing feeling, tense, when he's being watched like prey. He knows he could hold his own. But not when he's studying an offering like this. She hesitates on making another din, before lowering her foot down slowly. [NIGHT] --is the boss of this area. The mines we're in right now. It's no wonder why no other skeletons are coming for us, don't you think? Now it is Weaver's turn to snort. [Weaver] Fat chance. They were still running around when I set foot into this place. I cleaned up the last of them-- NIGHT slipped down off her throne, two feet landing on the shaky supports below. A few careful skips downwards, and she'd set foot on the ground. [NIGHT] Then believe what you want. Keep an eye on that thing. Just in case it hasn't sunk in yet... It's clearly not dead.
