ChaseR 0 Posted September 12, 2020 Author #21 Share Posted September 12, 2020 (edited) Seeing more rewards come right into his warm embrace both in the form or armors and weapons, was great. What was not great was the sight of more monsters. Then again, he could forgive Cardinal this once seeing as they were quite literally more loot, just ready to fight him to the death. The final part he really didn't appreciate too much. Using Blizz' frost breath once more, he bolstered his sword further and ran right in, slashing at the four. It was no longer a surprise when one of the four didn't get hit, and two of the three that did ended up bleeding and frozen. He was beginning to see patterns even with his own skills, and that was fine. He could work on them, improve and overcome his weaknesses and flaws in his technique. He didn't really have any tutor other than himself and Cardinal to thank, so it was going to be rough. Spoiler ChaseR uses Calamity Disaster on Tuskhorn 5, 6, 7 & 8! ChaseR 0 Posted September 12, 2020 Author #22 Share Posted September 12, 2020 (edited) He would have a much better feel for swords from here on out though, be it attacking, guarding or simply holding them. Through harsh training and more time using his sword, he'd get a better feel and refine his own techniques. For now though, another slash to be thrown right at the new set of Tuskhorns that didn't let up whatsoever. They didn't seem enraged, seething with anger like the does and deer before them. Instead, they were probably much more aggressive by nature. "I wonder if these can break the rule of 'monsters attack only when attacked'. Just like bosses or other events and exceptions like the Gemini, and the like...", his mind wandered off. Even so, a simple attack was enough to 'break their ranks'. Three fell and one survived, but all four were struck this time. With some luck and better equipment, starting from his next hunt, he could easily wipe everything out and never miss a shot again. ChaseR 0 Posted September 12, 2020 Author #23 Share Posted September 12, 2020 (edited) With one Tuskhorn left breathing heavily and grunting, Chase relaxed and kept a composed stance. There was no longer enough to pose a real threat to him. If anything, he was safe now that they were all down. He quietly watched it prepare to charge in again, preparing to counterattack right when he got the chance. It approached closer and closer, almost hitting him- now. A skid to the side and downwards slash with his hand and he did it. The Tuskhorn's sides revealed a large gash, and when it came to a halt to turn around, it let out a soft cry and shattered into crystals. Another good loot window to close, and now he was back dry out of energy. This is a loop that would happen time and time again, judging by the amount of monsters that showed up and how steady his damage output was in the end. "Everything is mighty weak so far... ChaseR 0 Posted September 12, 2020 Author #24 Share Posted September 12, 2020 (edited) And now back to walking. Calm, silent, walking. A stroll through the forest like before, except it was another two minutes of Chase not looking for stuff to kill and trying to enjoy himself. A soft breeze blew from behind and then, a gust came from the center of it where he was headed. Whatever the reason, it was relaxing- the wind brushing against his skin and fleeting, the sunlight getting dimmer and dimmer with more shadows than rays inside of the forest. He continued to walk down the dirt path through all of the pine trees, and Blizz jumped down to strut right by him with his eyes on more items than before. He wanted to do his best to be of use and most of all, stretch and relax a bit. Even throughout the fights, Blizz believed in his owner. He also believed it was about time he got to exit the house a little bit, having grown tired of sleeping and laying about all day long every day on. ChaseR 0 Posted September 12, 2020 Author #25 Share Posted September 12, 2020 (edited) The more the pangolin looked around and felt the breeze on his body, the better he felt. Finally, walking about, stretching and minding his own business. Although he was consciously going in the general direction that Chase was too, it was pleasant he wasn't just getting carried around- while he was still energetic of course. You could bet that Blizz would take the first train home on the blueberry's shoulder the moment he got the chance to. "So, what's it look like? You like it?" His owner asked, and to that, the pangolin only clapped his hands and continued to move forwards. It was either a coincidence that he clapped at being asked, or he was well aware what they were on about in full. Whatever the case, the moment he saw a material, the mammal quickly ran on over to pick it up and offer it back to Chase. He seemed very happy and since they couldn't communicate, that's all that mattered. Looks went so far with his familiars, and nothing else really did. ChaseR 0 Posted September 12, 2020 Author #26 Share Posted September 12, 2020 (edited) They were about to keep moving deeper and deeper on inside the forest, and just when Blizz was picking up the pace and almost ran far ahead, he quickly got scooped up and placed atop of the bluehead's... head. 'Be careful. These are big. More than before. They don't seem any stronger though, even if they're different in size.", he quickly warned and at the same time tried to calm his familiar down, stretching and holding his blade out towards the four. Just like any other monster, they jumped right at him and tried to make an attack with their horn. Even if they were burly, huge and terrifying in size, since the sea wyvern fiasco he knew that size mattered none at all. He dodged every single one of their attacks calmly and gracefully, slashing them all. Three of the four were rooted into the ground, a new record, and one had slipped his range just barely. ChaseR 0 Posted September 12, 2020 Author #27 Share Posted September 12, 2020 (edited) It did its job and kept them all in their place. He quickly went in and swept a kill on three of the four, hitting the fourth one and ultimately freezing it to the ground as he had done with the other three prior. Now we were talking- a free hit, another target bleeding and an accumulative unique activation on every single strike against each opponent once. This was progress. He was getting better at using his blade, or Cardinal was just doing him a favor. Whichever the case, more enemies dead meant more loot for him to bathe in. More loot was even more chances at getting the sword he was looking for, and now he had only a single huge Tuskhorn left to take care of. ChaseR 0 Posted September 12, 2020 Author #28 Share Posted September 12, 2020 (edited) Getting out was the easy part anyways, just run past everything and towards the lake. Getting deeper and deeper inside was the hardest part, and just why he would find out sooner or later. Probably sooner, given how quickly he was breaking through the enemy's ranks and groups of monsters that were out to oppose him. With a final strike, ice fully encased his bleeding opponent once again and it quickly shattered alongside with the ice his sword had just created. That dealt the final bit of damage he needed and let the crystals scatter around the skies. His energy was still good for another encounter, granted that they didn't get too strong from here on out. He looked over at Blizz, routinely closed his loot window once again and got pumped to keep on going. "Tell you what, Blizz. Combat is fun. I don't like fighting but it's fun here in Aincrad. ChaseR 0 Posted September 12, 2020 Author #29 Share Posted September 12, 2020 (edited) Blizz didn't croak or say a thing. It was really obvious that anybody would just agree. No matter how battle thirsty one can be, it's always boring to do the same thing over and over again, like fighting, killing, looting, crafting, identifying, typing three page long threads for loot and everything else of the like. And then, when he saw no more Huge Tuskhorns in the distance, a new type of monster appeared to grit him. One he couldn't really describe. It was a figure, made out of... mist? No, it was transparent. He couldn't really see anything but mist coming off from it. Every single one of those four. He grunted and prepared himself, jumping right towards them and slashing past them. He ended up behind, with Blizz holding on tight. Two of the figures appeared to bleed despite their lack of a body- or a visible one at least, getting frozen to the ground. The other two showed the red gashes every hurt monster did, but they disappeared shortly after back into the mist's cover. Spoiler ChaseR uses Calamity Disaster on Misty Figure 1, 2, 3 & 4! ChaseR 0 Posted September 12, 2020 Author #30 Share Posted September 12, 2020 (edited) Whatever the case was with these, they were peculiar. Peculiar if not the first astral type monsters that Chase had ever happened to face throughout his stay in Aincrad. They were like ghosts, but less eerie and more so just there. They didn't appear to pose a real threat to him and hadn't hurt him. He didn't know how they could attack or even if they would, seeing as his next attack finished it all. For the first time in what felt like forever, he struck all four down during both of his shots. The result was beautiful- a satisfying click and four synchronized blips to signal the group falling before him. Fast, easy and sweetly, he got a takedown and finished the job at a speed much more than simply satisfactory. "... Whatever the hell do you think that was? I'm starting to get a good feel for why the monsters seemed to upset.", he told Blizz and dismissed the loot window without really peeking over the rewards, deciding to head further inside slowly and cautiously. He had to look into this just a bit further. Spoiler ChaseR uses Calamity Disaster on Misty Figure 1, 2, 3 & 4! ChaseR 0 Posted September 12, 2020 Author #31 Share Posted September 12, 2020 (edited) "This must be a scheduled event... No, the monsters would have been just as angry when Freyd came in for them, if that were the case. Something is just up. Hmph...". He wanted to get to the bottom of this, but he honestly knew way too little to get a good grasp of the situation. All he knew right now was that some monsters had seemingly invaded the forest, caused a ruckus with all of the inhabitants and were now sending them in a rage while disrupting the peace of whatever lives here otherwise. He just had to regenerate some of his energy and then he could go back to clearing them out. Chase had gone so deep that he could barely even see any 'animals' anymore. No deer, doe or Tuskhorns. The huge ones included. It was just murky from here on out. The forest's atmosphere had just grown different from what it used to be. ChaseR 0 Posted September 17, 2020 Author #32 Share Posted September 17, 2020 (edited) The sunlight had gotten even dimmer, the dirt on the ground was thicker and more akin to moisturised soil, and the air was damp. Something was just off, it was very foggy and... For a moment, he thought that there were more monsters up ahead. But nothing. It was just more dense fog dispersing left and right. "Maybe the fog is spawning around because of the monsters, or vice versa... I wonder what caused it.". He had gotten to one of the many reasons that whatever happening to the forest was happening in the first place. He still didn't know the why's or how's, left in the dark. Maybe delving even further would prove to be of some help? Both he and Blizz looked around, but through the fog and almost muddied ground, it was nigh on impossible to spot anything other than mud and more mud. Nothing of real use to him. ChaseR 0 Posted September 17, 2020 Author #33 Share Posted September 17, 2020 (edited) Just when he was about to comment out loud on Blizz, he felt four ghastly presences approach him. A chill went down his spine and he began to nervously look around him, knowing that something was lurking. Even with his blade in his hands, they didn't show up to start the fight. It was when he took a deep breath, lit up a sword art and slashed all around him in a violent spin on the back of his heel that they finally emerged. And funnily enough, they were around him all this time, having gotten hurt by his slash. The gashes on them said enough. But much like the misty figures from before, the ghost's surface wasn't hurt for too long. The wounds disappeared shortly after and they attempted to attack. Some missed, one completely failed to even get to Chase and the other was frozen, despite not being solid. Spoiler ChaseR uses Calamity Disaster on Rampant Ghost 1, 2, 3 & 4! ChaseR 0 Posted September 17, 2020 Author #34 Share Posted September 17, 2020 (edited) It appeared some of the effects had been implemented in the game rather... clunkily, that was one way to put it. Now though, that he knew they got affected by attacks all the same despite being ghosts, there was absolutely nothing to be scared about. Their health seemed to go down at just about the same rate as anything else in the forest, so that wasn't a worry either. He expected that the health or damage values would just pop off from here on out, yet nothing. Absolutely nothing so far. He left Blizz behind, seeing he was rather shaken and rushed towards the ghosts, spinning to quickly deal a final attack for the four of them. One completely dematerialized around his blade, dodging the attack while the other three were cut in half and destroyed all the same- one just slightly faster than the rest due to its bleeding, despite it being a ghost. Whatever, this wasn't ruining his immersion. They weren't ghosts, the way he saw it. Spoiler ChaseR uses Calamity Disaster on Rampant Ghost 1, 2, 3 & 4! ChaseR 0 Posted September 17, 2020 Author #35 Share Posted September 17, 2020 (edited) Not in the literal sense at least. This wasn't anybody's guilty conscience trying to pin the blame on somebody else or haunting them. This was a monster disrupting the peace between both players and other monsters, no matter how you put it. Just don't stick to appearances and from Chase's standpoint, that's exactly why he didn't think of monsters as werewolves, dragons, ghosts, or whatever they were meant to be. They were all dangers with legs, arms and whatever they could hurt them using. That's what mattered the most right now and he had to disarm every single one with success, to make sure less people died and he stayed safe, alongside those he held dear to him. ChaseR 0 Posted September 17, 2020 Author #36 Share Posted September 17, 2020 (edited) A slash was all that it took for the ghost to fell. And that it did, leaving nothing but the loot window behind, and shards that quickly faded away just like all the other ghosts' forms. Now that they were done, Chase wanted to get a move on before four more figures similar to these ones appeared. This time though, he could tell their more distinct features. A face, angered, and a body like what you'd see in a town. Some NPC dressed up casually for a walk, probably killed in their attempt to become an adventurer or... Whichever the case, they were a) an astral type monster now, and b) out to kill Chase instead. He couldn't let that happen, could he? After all, he had to help everybody escape this hellscape and get back to their homes, himself included. He accepted Blizz back onto his body and gestured him to hold on, only to launch himself at the monsters and slash widely. Spoiler ChaseR uses Calamity Disaster on Vengeful Spirit 1, 2, 3 & 4! ChaseR 0 Posted September 17, 2020 Author #37 Share Posted September 17, 2020 (edited) Somewhere in his attack though, one of the rather hazy creatures took out a dagger and slashed at him. It dealt a fair bit of damage, but it was nothing that he himself couldn't really handle. "Hmph, you're fast.", Chase complimented the spirit only for it to grow angrier, more hateful and even more repulsive than before. Its face scrunched up in anger that he couldn't put into words and it tried to stab him, only to fail. It was obvious that no matter what he did, 'Vengeful Spirits' were labelled properly more than anything. He quickly blazed through them once more, sending a few slashes to one's way, a jab right at the other, a slam or two right down on the third's head and quickly sweeping the fourth with a kick off his feet (despite his ghostly physique) and a stab downwards. They were dispatched almost as quickly as they appeared, barely having really scratched the boy who simply stretched and sheathed his sword. ChaseR 0 Posted September 17, 2020 Author #38 Share Posted September 17, 2020 (edited) Was he strong? For sure, that he really was. That didn't mean he could afford to get careless with all of his energy expenditure however, and that's exactly why he stopped in his tracks with his arms crossed, wanting to take a break. The last thing he wanted was to get hurt and risk Blizz' safety or his own. People would get worried enough to kill him if he did that, honestly. And he wanted to avoid that as much as possible. Then again, since when was Shay many people... N-No, even she wouldn't worry that much. Whatever the case, the rest was doing him good. His energy was regenerating and his composure was slowly being pulled back together. Nothing at all to worry about. If he kept taking these small breaks in between groups of monsters, this would be an absolute breeze over anything else really. "What are you thinking Blizz? Am I ready enough to keep going?" ChaseR 0 Posted September 17, 2020 Author #39 Share Posted September 17, 2020 (edited) While he could take advantage of the time he was standing still during, he didn't want to trigger any flags. If he stepped any further inside, there was a very high possibility of more mobs appearing. That only meant more trouble for him, and more trouble was a no-go without any energy. Blizz remained silent, but that was to be expected. It's a fucking pangolin, for the third time already. "... I think we're good, aren't we?", he asked him rhetorically yet again, not expecting an answer but getting one in the form of a croak. Maybe, he really did understand more than he let on. Chase simply raised a hand up to his shoulder to rub under the pangolin's chin, wanting him to feel more at ease. They might have been in what would freak most people out, a muddy, foggy forest, but they were too strong to die to anything in any floor, so long as it wasn't a boss really. ChaseR 0 Posted September 17, 2020 Author #40 Share Posted September 17, 2020 (edited) Come think of it, Chase had never even gotten close to half health other than that one time he was duelling against himself, his own Gemini. Whatever the case, the Gemini was long dead and now he had nothing to worry about. He wouldn't reach half health anytime soon, at least he wasn't planning to, and that's really what was of importance. The other thing to note was the four enemies that showed up. More ghosts, but this time they weren't just spirits or foggy or anything. Foggy or not, spirits or silhouettes, they were more danger for Chase to push out of the way and right into the next dimension, honestly. This begged the question of whatever happened to those that got erased while in the Aincrad, but there was little time to think. Less thinking in combat, as the plan went, and more killing. That's exactly what he was supposed to do and off he was to do exactly that. Spoiler ChaseR uses Calamity Disaster on Ghostly Silhouette 1, 2, 3 & 4!
