[F01-SP] <<Nature's Treasure>>

Recommended Posts

Val made his way into the sufficiently lit cave structure with gusto. An NPC informed him about the trading ground not to long ago and Valentine figured he could get decent loot and materials. The monsters were said to have been small bats, the small bats were a solitary creature that was said to always drop something when killed. If not the cavern was rich in ore that he could search for, not to mention the treasure chests that are rumored to be scattered about. Val understood that as long as he did not get too greedy the chances of making it out alive was pretty good.

The entrance of the cavern had the most players so Val went deeper in to avoid the crowds. He would have had an easier fight in the meadows or against the boars. Val just felt like it would be too burning and fighting in unfavorable conditions increased his battle proficiency faster as far as he could guess.

The first opponent he made it to was a small bat, it was actually kind of cute. The bat was a deep shade of blue that glowed from the lights given off by the crystal in the cave. Any other day this would have been the type of monster Valentine would have not minded wishing to keep. As he was on a mission Valentine decided to test the waters by poking it with his spear. The small poke did trifling damage angering the creature. It released a shriek as it dive bombed towards Val's face as if it was a Japanese world war II pilot. Val was not expecting it and could not stop the claws from scraping across his face.

His eyebrows tensed as his health dropped. The only aspect about the game that he really liked was the scarring was not permanent. Val thought of himself as handsome and would have been angry at a permanent mark.

The small creature shriek in anger as it dive bombed towards Valentine again. This time Val was a bit more prepared and leaned out of the way. His body was not properly angled and he could not stop the small bat from biting into his arm. It held it for a second before letting go to get back in the sky. Valentines stony countenance seemed to have gain a touch of ice in the features. He leveled his spear and activated one of his spear arts <<heft>>. The spear tip was lifted diagonally up from the ground, it trailed a line of red onto the small bat as a larger chunk of health disappeared.

Valentine was lucky that as a lower floor creature it kept more monotony in the attack pattern. He was really pushing himself against a wall by trying to fit in so little space. His large spear and the small cavern made it harder for him to maneuver.

The flow of battle was starting to ingrain itself into his habits. The furry small bat dived towards Valentine hellbent on murdering him. Val brought his spear point down, the spear was being held parallel to himself with the tip towards the ground,  He spun on his right heal in the space narrowly allowing the bat to miss him. An opening allowed him to use <<heft>> on the bat again. His connection was successful as the health bar went down. Val was allowing the battle to take him deeper into the brightly lit cavern. He wanted to farm for materials not deal with a murderous bat all day.

Val was mentally trying to calculate how much longer the battle would take him at his current rate. The battle may have been fun but if it was taking him too long it would not be worth the time. He calculated that with his current energy and skillset it would not take too much longer.

The battle was raging on. It was man with stick versus bat with teeth. The ancient humanistic ancestors would have watched this as an afternoon spectacle. Who would win? Pointy stick or edible creature. They would be sad if the animals they hunted turned into shards instead of becoming roast able for an open fire.

Valentine attempted to maneuver behind the creature by pushing off a rock into one of those incredibly graceful leaps. His current skillset had him push off the rock and land on his back, he looked more like a physically challenged fish than anything. It lacked the strength, grace, and coolness like in his imagination. The fall did have the bat miss him as it soared right above. The angle was perfect for a hit, if Valentine was able to activate a spear art he would have, instead he settled on poking it with the sharp end to cause damage.

A frown was forming on Valentine's face as he fought on.  The battle between man and bat was going well with Val maintaining the lead. His skills were flowing better and Valentine could almost believe that the battle was easy. Valentine rolled to stand back up and brought the spear upwards as well. It was a second nature <<heft>> to him and it flowed seamlessly. If a front liner was watching they may have been impressed by the seamless spearmen ship.

The <<heft>> allowed the small bat to flow of course from the original attack. It have Valentine enough time to dodge the small creature with a graceful ease. Valentine was getting used to fighting in the cavern now. He could only hope he would have an easier time when it came to fighting bosses. His first solo fight was going well. If it was a harder opponent he may even consider himself to be in danger.

Self confidence is a great thing in moderation. It was a lesson he heard for many years as a child. Valentine was always self confident and that never change. It was in moments like this that he remembered the words he was told. Valentine took a hit to the chest due to his overconfidence. He believed the battle was going easily and he was not fully focused.

The lack of focus was his undoing as he jabbed forward. His jab was too fast and he missed the bat by a wide margin. The wide stab left his side open for an attack. The small bat took it and ran straight into the gap in his defense. It allowed the small bat to hit him in the chest. Taking out a major portion of his health, if Valentine was as weak as he was before he would already be a million shards.

The bat was a feisty opponent. The match was being prolonged and Valentine was at a disadvantage as long as he could not beat the creature. The attack from the small bat were doing more damage to him then he could dish out to the small bat. If the cave was dimly lit then it would have been his burial ground.

The small  bat got from underneath the arm and dodged a swipe from Valentine's spear. It was circling around looking for another opening. It was testing Valentine to see if it could have another chance to hurt hit. This time Val waited after the swipe, when the small bat came in for a strike it was promptly avoided. The angle was smarty made and allowed no room for Valentine to retaliate. When he tried to retaliate his spear struck a rock and bounced off. His features showed no strain from the prolonged battle with the winged creature.

To say the current battle was being monotonous would be an understatement. The last blunder in the previous exchange was causing Val to be overly careful. It was an incorrect balance because he missed several chances to strike out. His face was calm but his heart was in turmoil. He needed a moment to recollect himself and throw his mind back into the game.

Valentine tried to calm himself down and keep his mind in the fight. As the bat did another dive. Val was calm enough to step to avoid it but missed his chance to strike back. He was getting calmer as the battle continued on. Gradually the reason why he was fighting firmed his will and tempered his battle spirit. He was more focused and determined to finish the small bat in a couple of more moves, or the time it took to make a pot of tea.

Valentine stared at the small bat as a planned formed inside of his head. He was starting to notice a new pattern in the way the small bat was moving and attacking. The small bat was a programmed group of zeroes and ones the coding for it was basic as well. Val believed as long as he paid attention he would be able to predict how the small bat would react. It took Valentine a total of three minutes before he made his move.

Valentine had his back placed against a rock he was making it look like he had an opening to expose. The small bat took the bait before finding itself taking a <<heft>> to the body. The health bar of the small bat went from an orange to a red as it hovered around death. Valentine did not drop his guard because it was in the red. He raised his guard instead.

Any gamer worth their salt knew that monsters in low health went berserk. When that happened they often got stronger and could even take the party from winning to loosing. The small bat shrieked before circling around at a faster pace. As soon as Valentine would have calmed down it would have dived towards his throat. His raised guard kept the berserk small bat at bay.

The berserk small bat zoomed forward without warning. Valentine was prepared and sent out a <<heft>> the strike was more impressive as it was going towards where the berserk small bat was supposed to go. The prediction was accurate and put a critical hit on the bat. The red health plummeted and leveled out at zero. The monster shattered into the pretty blue game shards sending loot the loot from the mob into his item box. It was a fair amount of materials like he was told it would be.

The battle with the small bat took a fair amount out of him. His health was in the yellow but it was still a decent result. Valentine remembered the time when he was barely making it fighting the boar pups in a group. His solo expedition was going remarkably well in comparison.

Valentine placed the spear on his back and went into the hole to dig. He gained some materials from the small bat but wanted to gather more materials for himself. The more he gained in a trip the less time he had to spend on his future endeavors into the wild. Valentine only went through the forging process for a moment before his menu notification popped up. He had received two usable crystals from the hole. It was true that the current place was more prolific with the materials given. As long as he had a fair amount he would feel satisfied from todays work.

Valentine continued to dig into the hole he was located at. If he was in the real world he would stop from the amount of sweat his body would have been accumulating. After digging in the hole for a few minutes he stopped. He did not stop digging because he was tired but because of the notification he received. The system informed him that the hole was exhausted he would have to move to another hole or wait thirty minutes for a reset. Val believed it would be easier going to a new hole, he was an experience miner of sorts and new to give a hole a rest. If he was lucky he would come back to the hole and dig around it in some more later.

The trick to getting into fights with the bats was to wait till he was ready. Valentine felt like he was to weak to fight them at the moment. After he healed up it would be easier for him to take them down.

Slowly healing up was a pain that Valentine was not a fan of. He wanted to get back to practice but understood that the body needed to be taken care of first. If he pushed himself too much he would risk tiring himself out and be unable to battle if it was needed. The game may have not been realistic with the capabilities that most people had, it did maintain the realism that no one could do it all. After searching for some time without success Val believed it was time to head out. He was supposed to meet up with Hael to go questing. Punctuality was important as time was a form of money.

A small bat was in front of him as he prepared to leave. It was a bit of time since the last and his health was back in the green, he kept a potion so believed he could take it out.

3rd Turn resting and looking for materials. All energy returns.

Valentine leveled a look at the small bat. The current area was on the wider side with a decent amount of space to maneuver his spear against the small bat. Val leveled the tip against the creature before rushing in, his spear made a whistling sound as he used his spear art. The <<heft>> was nicely tuned and allowed Valentine to get a good hit in. The small bat was surprised and made a move to retaliate. Valentine spun the spear to keep the small bat at bay.

The quick exchange went well as so far Valentine made it out unscathed. His health was only a little bit into the green and one hit would be enough to deal a fair amount of damage. It would be a great thing if he could apply hit and run tactics onto the small bat. If he got hit too much he would be a goner.

When you are able to focus in a certain way you will have a whole new way to experience stuff. The small bat was moving smaller than it was. Valentine did not believe the game was glitching. The cardinal system was state of the art and did not tolerate bugs. It was more of how focused he was. A state of mind that was more progressive as he adapted to his fighting ability. The small bat rushed in again. Valentine could only lean back and dodge, he pivoted to face the small bat.

Have you ever imagined you could see a line that connects you from one place to another. It was like that in his mind as he calculated the perfect angle. He curved his spear more than he normally would, allowing it to trail before lifting. The system recognized it as a <<heft>> connecting to the specified target.

The zone was calling Val and he was in it. If Val was not busy fighting for his life he would probably be enjoying himself immensely. He had to remind himself that while SAO was a game, SAO was not a normal game by any stretch of the imagination. Thinking of it as just another game is how his name would get added to the monument. The list of fallen players that would never make it out of the game.

Val twirled his spear as if to butt the small bat aside with it, before turning it over to stab it with the spear point. When it twirled it missed completely giving the small bat an opening to use. The creature made a shrill noise as it went all in. The precarious health points that Val had went down. He was not in the yellow yet the situation could change in a moment.

The fight was becoming a blur as the two danced a waltz of death. Out of the two only one would be allowed to keep their life. Val was getting to set on making sure it died. The small bat had a similar pre-programmed mind set. Valentine watched the small bat and was starting to pick up a few details. There is a saying that the origin of martial arts came from nature. Watching the animals fight inspired mankind to come up with ways of fighting like them. The entire time before Valentine was fighting as he watched other players and just used system made moves. This time he was coming up with a style of his own.

The spear sparked with a hint of life as he moved. Valentine moved as if he was a hunter and the small bat the prey.  The small bat moved and the spear intercepted hitting the creature.

If Valentine was imagining it properly he would have been reminded of the snakes he watched back in Egypt. They wriggled about striking when a chance was present. It was the same concept behind his spear. Valentine would move about until he found a prime moment before attacking. At his current stage he was only using basic attacks as he had to learn to walk before he could fly.

The small bat took a sharp turn Val was not entirely prepared for as it was too sudden. The small bat latched onto his chest with the teeth inside of it. Val flipped his spear and lunged it at his own chest. It would have looked like an attempted to suicide to onlookers instead the small bat took the spear dealing a great amount of damage. The small bat unlatched as it squawked. If Val could have used a sword art he would have taken it down.

The small bat and the spear wielding man stared digital daggers at each other. Valentine was a wiff away from being in the yellow health zone while the small bat was already in the yellow. If it was before Valentine could have tried escaping if it was in his style. The battle started with Val having a handicap of missing health. The fact that the small bat could do more damage was only aggravating the difference they started with. If Valentine started with full health the battle would not be as close.

The moment of respite was over as both man and beast went back to exchanging blows. Val leapt to avoid a hit, the creature swirled in the air, allowing a claw to rake pass Val's back. The spear was motioned to be placed behind his back, as if he had a hammer Val brought the sucker forward. Like a baseball the bat flew for a moment from the hit.
