[event: A Val-halla of a Time.]

DAY THREE, ████.

Yomi was one of those places that had fallen to the wayside. Inhabited only by its ghoulish townspeople and the shrieking wraith that occasionally drifted too close to the settlement's walls, few would prefer to linger in its streets on an ordinary day. But news of an unusual instance had been making its rounds among the rest of the floors, and players were arriving in droves. Today, the plaza held more than two dozen. A considerate soul had silenced that bothersome mob. And yet, for many, the air wasn't any less forbidding.

For the girl in the fluffy white coat, her only concern was the presence at the other side of the pillar.

“That ship’s not about to bring you to an Asgard where you can politely ask the gods for treats.”

There was only one person who had the means and motive to speak with her now, but the connection between their voice and their identity had momentarily been severed. It didn't bother her. She took her last consumable and picked delicately at its shiny wrapping. "Then I'll pry it from their cold dead hands?"

"I'd object, but that was actually part of the point. You missed a buff." They procured a small bundle from their inventory. She caught it as they tossed it over. And from their side of the pillar, she heard them close their menu and for a brief moment, nothing at all. "You're strong, but the event's not as straightforward as you might expect."

The girl pushed off from the pillar. "So I need to solve a puzzle of some sort before beating up a god. Lovely. My request was 'absolutely no info,' but hint appreciated! I suppose," she paused contemplatively, tugged on the edges of her sleeves, "I'd like the occasional taste of adventure once in a while."

"Stay safe, Ara."

Arabelle remained there for a couple moments before she quickly took the buff and tiptoed over to their side of the pillar. Empty. None too concerned, she circled back around it and made her way towards the waiting area.

There were fewer players meandering about. She could see why. The sky was growing dimmer by the minute and a heavy fog blanketed the waters, at some points seeping into the shores. Her ashen gaze swept over the area. Perhaps the so-called ghost ship appeared unsettling enough? The system had to have melded "Halloween" and "Norse mythology" together at some point. After confirming the presence of her scythe and the rest of her equipment, she sought out the players she'd spoken to through their LFG request.

"Good evening," she greeted. She manifested three clusters of purplish debuff crystals with a quick touch of her menu; they would float in the air long enough for any one to grab them, but before any of them moved, she tapped the one closest to her. "I've brought the songs as promised. The [Incarceration]s are mine to play. Are we missing anyone?"

In this bereaved world, day and night were only notions of a greater, abstract concept. "Light" was relative, because visibility was a non-issue, but there was no warmth, and everything existed in grayscale. Yomi was a hell on earth unlike the contemporary perception, where fire and sinners ran rampant. In this hell, it was cold. Despair and Hope were two sides of a single coin that you paid to a ferryman to take you across a river. If you were loved in life, so the story went, those who cared for your eternal soul put coins over either of your eyes as they set you on your way to the afterlife, all to ensure Charon's toll was paid.

Alkor found himself fidgeting with a few Col between his fingertips. There was always some potential for death with these quests, especially when they faced powerful enemies; but there was more that they didn't know than they did. This event took them on a ship bound for mystery, and no coin collector in sight held out his hand.

So, he pocketed it.

Instead of losing his composure and overthinking, for once Alkor sighed and closed his eyes. This was the rally point they'd discussed after all. As he made his way toward the largely vacant, open space he made notice of one of the other Players. Another Damage Dealer, like him. At least they had plenty of consistency in that department.

When she revealed the debuff crystals, Alkor recalled the Performer's shop where the music was soothing and remembered the woman from behind the counter. He doubted that she remembered every face that came through her shop, so he decided it was best not to get too familiar with her. People didn't like that. Did they?

Alkor opted not to speak up when she offered the items. Instead, he waited, and he listened. Ideally, he would learn names and know the rest of his party. That was important. His gilded, albeit empty eyes watched as they filtered into the meeting area and made their greetings... and finally, he made one of his own.

"Evening," he said as he thumbed the pommel of his blade idly. "Pretty sure they're just straggling a little. They'll be here."

No one wanted to miss an event, after all.

Every bite Koga took out of these bananas made him want to vomit. He'd lost count of how many of these he'd eaten so far. All he knew was that he had one more to go. The poor man peeled the yellow skin with shaky hands as he approached a pair of players he assumed were the members of his group for this raid. "Hey..." he greeted them with a miserable look on his sickly pale face. He really hated bananas. The swordsman took a deep breath and shoved the banana in his mouth and swallowed it whole. He had to cover his mouth for a moment, once again afraid he was going to vomit. This definitely wasn't the best first impression to his group, but hey, they wanted him to hit things hard, he was going to hit things hard.

Satisfied that the queasy feeling in his stomach had sufficiently settled itself, Koga procured another buff from his inventory, a bottle of liquor, and quickly chugged it. It didn't make him feel any better, like he'd hoped. "We're still waiting on people, yeah?" he groaned. Another buff, this time a small handful of chocolate beans. The man threw them all into his mouth at once and slowly chewed. Color began to seep back into his face, gradually returning it to its natural olive tone. Yeah, that was better. "Uh, I'm Koga by the way," he said, realizing he hadn't properly introduced himself. Last buff. A whole apple pie. This one, Koga was going to eat slowly and enjoy.

Benjamin hurried to try and catch up to everyone at the rally point, his shoulder pack clanking along with the amount of items he had packed into it. He knew he was late to get to the rally point, or at least not early as he planned, and on his first big event too! He saw the other three players already waiting there and ran up, catching his breath as he did.

"I'm here! Sorry about the delay- wanted to finish up a few last minute potions before hand." he said as he opened up one of the bag flaps and pulled out six of two types of potions, setting five of them down on a nearby rock for everyone else to use and downing the last two himself. "Hopefully these will keep you guys safe for the most part, but besides that I'll have plenty of healing and emergency crystals for the bosses. Oh, and if anyone needs a last minute damage buff I have a couple of those too." He saw they had plenty of damage to go around, so he wasn't worried about how that would go- just keeping everyone alive would be his focus.

His face beamed with pride as he checked his items, ready to fight with a full group, and protect them all. Hopefully between the potions he made and the healing, he wouldn't have any problems. Or have to use his expensive healing items.

On this scary ass floor again with the demon that Hidden had her fight. She really didn't want to be here, but this where her sister said she was going for the Halloween event and if she wanted to get stronger, she had to start doing things that Nee-san was doing to get stronger. Hopefully she wouldn't be too weak to take it on.

Approaching the location start, Assassin noticed some familiar faces. Koga, the skeptic that witnessed her killing an NPC that tried to kill her. It was all in an instant and in self-defense, but it wouldn't weigh heavy on her conscience.

Next was the man whom she had showcased the true power of her dagger. She had never felt more powerful in the game than in that moment. Taking down a mountain of a mob with nothing but a dagger was a trivial manner for her. She wondered if Alkor would remember her for that.

Once she got in earshot, she waved them down. "You guys again? Here for the dungeon? Let me join."

Eruda was on Floor 10, the designated place for the event that everyone was freaking out about right now. She knew that people around her level would be hurting for tanks right now so she decides to be there if people needed it. Standing by a building in earshot of a group of people who started to gather one by one. One who was having issues keeping a banana down, another who shows up with a bunch of potions setting them down for the group to have at it. He was also the one talking about healing, given that she could only assume that he was the healer...Good. One of the first to gather bringing her own buffs for the party to take from, and a man next to her. Another coming from the shadows to join the group. Counting out silently, it was missing one person. Eating the remains of the food she had brought she walks to the group. A few months ago she would have never imagined joining something like this with another group other than her guild, but she has been working up to a moment just like this. Helping people who needed it and protecting them from danger. Taking a slow deep breath thinking that this was exactly what Raidou would have done...

"I am here to be your tank if you guys need it. Eruda..." she says walking to the group that she knew nothing about. "Who is DPS and healing and do we have a plan yet?" Eruda talks sternly, serious as she didn't want to be walking into a shit show if people were not ready.

  • 2 weeks later...

He wasn't sure they had a designated healer from the look of their ragtag group, but he didn't immediately mention it. Alkor had brought along several potions and a group healing crystal just in case, but he didn't think that would be enough if they got in over their heads. He listened carefully to the group in order to get an idea for their skill sets and strengths, and sought to determine if he would have to recalibrate his own approach to this situation.

At least they had someone who could handle taking damage. Without a tank, the situation would not be salvageable in the least. He knew a few of these people, but not all of them. Most recently, Assassin, the girl he helped fight the icy monstrosity.

She didn't seem the type to enjoy idle conversation, and honestly, he wasn't either.

He wasn't the one here who would do the most damage outright, and he owned that. Instead, he dealt steady damage with a reliable energy tank. That would let him stay in the fight and relevant long after the big hitters blew their loads. In the DPS race, he who slowed down, lost.

"I brought some healing items, but I'm not a healer," he offered, unhelpfully.

A few others began to approach the three players. The remainder of their merry group of suicidal misfits, Koga reckoned. Most of them, he didn't know. One however, he nodded to as she approached and asked to join. "Not like you'd listen to me if I said 'no.'" Koga replied. Assassin was headstrong, and Koga wasn't entirely sure what her whole deal was, and which side of the 'friend/enemy' line he sat on with her. He figured he was probably toeing it a bit.

"Thanks, by the way," Koga said to the player with glasses as he picked up two of the potions he'd set down.

The last to join them, a tall woman, greeted them and explained her role as well. The guy who'd gotten here before Koga stated he wasn't much of a healer. "Yeah, me neither. If you guys need something stabbed, sliced, diced, or beheaded on the other hand, I got you covered."

Ben glanced up at the mention of a healer and raised his hand up to get the player's attention. "Um, here! I've gotten the healing stuff taken care of. Just be sure to grab the potions before we go- they'll help make sure we don't have to use any of our big items unless it's truly an emergency." he said as he tried to keep track of who had gotten buffed and who hadn't yet as he added "Oh, I'm Benjamin by the way. Just call me Ben if you'd like." A smile came across his face as he kept his eyes on everyone, trying to see what else they would need, and more importantly who would be filling each role.

"Miss... Ara was it? Thanks for helping out with your songs as well! I'll have my hands full with the crystals I brought, but I'm sure everyone else can make use of them. Um... right?" He wasn't sure if he was presuming too much or not, since he definitely wasn't the leader of the group, but it would be a shame to not put the items that had been crafted to use. He knew how hard it was to work on things like that.
