ChaseR 0 Posted October 19, 2020 #1 Share Posted October 19, 2020 (edited) Having headed back home after the long night with NIGHT and DAY, Chase fell asleep almost right away in his comfortable little attic with Blizz right by his side. He woke up almost mechanically from his excitement in the morning, sitting up and opening his menu to message NIGHT, telling her that he'd be over by the twenty second waiting at the teleporter. And with that, he made all the preparations he had to- deciding his loadout. He was low on crystals, given he'd used most that she had given him for the Valhalla dungeon, and he wasn't that big on food buffs either. "Maybe I'll go in unbuffed. We have teleport crystals either way, plus, I trust myself enough this time.", he mumbled to himself and patted Blizz on the head before deciding to take off. He'd take him with, but he was rather worried for the critter's own safety. Like so, he was fully geared up and good to go with a new blade, made out of stone and looking like the rest of it was broken- hell, it barely reached its half point if anything. Now waiting in front of the teleporter, he kept his hands crossed as his sword remained sheathed to his left hip, and a hand rested on it. A broadsword like Blizz' Embrace, but a much shorter one, making it best carried like a one handed sword. Certainly an odd look for the tank. Couldn't say she felt confident going into one after figuring out the risks with Bistro, however. NIGHT paced away from the twenty-second's teleporter -- the threat of the empty gash upon the floor still loomed over the player's every move, she feared, eyeing the pit in the distance. "Map," she murmured, still running through last night's plans with her broker. Even armed to the teeth, the idea that they'd liken to disconnect the use of teleport crystals was a worrying feat in itself. She'd tossed the blue bulwark a handful of consumables -- it didn't matter if they'd landed to the dirt, she was sure they weren't that fragile to begin with -- and continued examining her interface for information. ChaseR 0 Posted October 21, 2020 Author #3 Share Posted October 21, 2020 (edited) Chase watched the incarceration crystals drop to the ground, staying silent and letting out a sigh as he gave her a concerned look, somewhat frowning. She certainly seemed in low spirits, and considering the high note that the last night ended on, it didn't make much sense to him. Whichever the case, he took the map out and picked up the items from the ground, heading outside of the settlement and into the forest. And then, he opened up the map to reveal a grotto, looking to the side at NIGHT. "... Is something the issue, NIGHT? You seem uh... uncertain. I'll use these crystals quickly so get back to your normal mood and let's cut through it, yeah?", he asked her and quickly buffed himself to make sure, feeling more uncertain purely given his partner's mood. It was scary to see her like this, not because she was a friend but more so because he knew for a fact she was much better and more knowledgeable than him. Could it be because she knew of how dangerous the dungeon was, or did Chase consider it too easy for his own good? Off to find out they were. And as soon as they stepped into the grotto, the door behind them got sealed off. The only way to get out now would be through teleportation crystals. With that in mind, Chase quickly pulled one of the incarceration crystals out, using it to afflict all of the monsters with the debuff so his partner would cleave through them with no trouble whatsoever. When her mind was too busy entertaining the idea of restricted use for Teleport Crystals, there was only a fear that pervaded her every step. The treants soon came into view; NIGHT wondered for a quick second, watching them enter her vision, where there might've been a grotto on the twenty-second. If only she recalled the way towards it. Such was the life with exploring Dungeon Maps. Music blocks down. Her footsteps shuffled hesitantly just as ChaseR approached the group of enemies, hoping that even with the adrenaline already persisting in her digital veins she would be able to step into the realm of shadows. Thankfully, Cardinal was a lenient system, already partway through ripping her figure from the ether just as she'd managed to push forth towards her quarry. ChaseR 0 Posted October 26, 2020 Author #5 Share Posted October 26, 2020 (edited) With NIGHT vanishing into the shadows and Chase's incarceration all set up for her, he quickly dashed towards the monsters with his broken blade in hand, whipping it to the side and quickly slashing at them one by one, before hitting them with the blade's flat side. Upon reaching the final monster, a blinding light flashed all over the room, leaving every monster in a daze- and the fourth one, much more damaged than the rest. When it was their turn to attack, they just stammered and some others fell onto the ground with a loud thud. Whatever improvement Chase had made to his blade, was certainly showing off. He unwrapped the chains from around his left hand in case any would try and slip attacks in to parry them out of the way, looking over his shoulder to where NIGHT was before- hell if she was still there though, she was probably already on the move to strike. A pulse from the ether -- NIGHT's venomous blast had somehow managed to crash through air before her form had been revealed -- and that wave of black and white pierced through the forms of the dithering trees, each of them rooted to the spot with the help of Chaser's own movements. The player dropped to the floor, tumbling in a roll; though the drumming in her ears had been loud, loud, loud, her focus would not be swayed, eyes searching their foes' gauges to see if any of them had avoided the attack. Nothing. But if she were to let her guard down now, there would be no telling how the horrors ahead of them would best them when they least expected it. Step after step, he made his way closer to them only for the DoT to proc right before his strike landed. With the sudden burst of damage, Chase quickly spun on his heel to slash at every single one of them with the much shorter blade, red pixels sent flying alongside his sword before dissipating into thin air. And just as soon as the trees disappeared, another two appeared to be approaching from deeper on inside the dungeon. "Two more coming up- then there must be some stronger monsters to take care of, right?", he warned his partner and raised his sword all battle ready, letting his battle healing take over his slightly depleted health bar when it came to regeneration. With a soft, white light flashing, it improved the healing effects just that much more. "These ones went away easily, so theoretically... This whole dungeon should be a breeze. Why was NIGHT so worried about it either way? Whatever else could it have been that worried her?", he wondered in the back of his mind with a small frown on his face, curious. Regardless... NIGHT 0 Posted November 8, 2020 #8 Share Posted November 8, 2020 Even as more treants began to make their appearance, NIGHT took the opportunity out of battle to shift back into the shadows -- her companion's warning wasn't taken lightly by the swordswoman, and she watched as ChaseR rounded their opponents trying to look for an opening. She'd followed his pace in suit, eyeing the open corridor that spread out in saddened stalks of green grass, a wreathe of thick vines entangled across stone through the virtual space ahead of them. There did seem to be a couple more ferocious looking targets. And she did hand her tank another crystal... With a bolt past his figure from the back, NIGHT waved to him with a glance to her back, ensuring the other player caught sight of her movements. It didn't take long for the other dungeon sentries to take notice of the approaching ghost, either; though their behavior seemed to read as being lost, unable to spot the target they were searching for in a surveying spin. He opened up his inventory while making his way on to the next monsters, taking out the next incarceration crystal and holding it up before himself as if it would ward the monsters off. That's not why he held it as such- he just didn't want to forget. Never having gotten to use consumables much in battle, it was a good reminder. "Hit 'em where it hurts!", he shouted at NIGHT as the crystal dispersed, its blue shards losing their color and turning black before seeming to turn into a fog of sorts and swirl around the monsters. Before long, they had disappeared of course, but the effect had landed all the same- a success for the duo. Now with a single hit from NIGHT, the weaker ones would be cleared as soon as Chase got his own first swing. After that, it wouldn't be long before the entirety of them said goodbye and they were off to what would be their biggest threat throughout this entire run- the boss. A ghost in its shell -- one break of the closest treant's surface bark with the blunt of her blade was enough to beat back the malefic creature in a stumble, the ground beneath it fissuring in a powerful dent. So too did the crack in the ground snake forward, engraving the vicinity in its stupefying hold; at just that very moment, her acrid blast tore into the plants' organic forms, that sticky tar bubbling and frothing at the wood it found itself attached to. If these ents were merely bad, then NIGHT was much certain her energies were much worse. In the break, she slid herself around towards the side of the pack. The player tightened her grip around her sword's hilt, carefully watching the closest offender whilst she cleared space for ChaseR to attack. ChaseR 0 Posted November 8, 2020 Author #11 Share Posted November 8, 2020 (edited) With NIGHT's brutal attack hitting the monsters right where it hurt the most, the fight was practically almost already over. Chase prepared himself to follow right up with another attack, moving the hand that had been holding the crystal up to now to grip his stone sword's hilt. "Thanks for the stun!", he thanked her with a quick nod and made his way right past her now revealed form, raising his light sword in the air only to swing it. And somewhere mid-swing, his attack emitted a blinding light that appeared to have overflown the whole sub-dungeon's corridor in seconds. By the time that it had disappeared however, so had one of the ents. Whatever the new sword he had did, it appeared to do it well enough- one enemy less to deal with. To his surprise, the other weaker enemy was still clinging onto life, but just barely. The elites seemed relatively unfazed, but that was half of their health down just like that. NIGHT 0 Posted November 8, 2020 #12 Share Posted November 8, 2020 So it had been apparent -- that the space she'd issued her friend had drastically been filled with a searing heat and a flash so strong NIGHT had wondered if she herself had been stunned from the impact. When her eyes were cracked open after her reflexive wince, what was left of one of the treants was nothing but crystal ash, almost as though it had been deleted via heat death from the universe. She took but a gulp glancing over to ChaseR's weapon, the broken blade lodged fast in his hand. Then, she darted forth in pursuit of their enemies, somehow still standing from the punishment dealt earlier. While one cross had been enough to wipe the weaker tree out from the mass, the woman's unleashing of her strike towards the other two creatures had been but a buffer to aid in her poison. An arm stretched out to her side once the player had completed her attack. NIGHT glanced behind her, a word to her companion. "Don't do anything. Just give them a moment." Of course, he turned to his companion to smile and try reassuring her, dropping his arm that was still holding onto the sword tightly. He felt as relieved as ever now that the small fries were out of the way, knowing just how well they could handle a big ent if this was the best its minions could muster. "So much for being worried you softball.", he teased before chuckling and sticking his tongue out for a moment. Looking further into the dungeon, all he could see was a massive oak tree in a clearing of sorts- the final room of the sub-dungeon probably. "Let's go mess up the boss and go home with a level or two more, yeah? We might as well have been way too prepared for our own good, you know.", the blueberry continued, stretching his neck and beginning to move further down the hallway over the treant's ashes. "Oh, you should vanish before we get to it though. Go go go~.", he encouraged her and took the lead, humming lowly to himself. It was a good run so far. Nothing could stop them further down the line at this point. It seemed fragile more than anything, and Cardinal was to make it a lesson on judging others based on their appearances. Her eyes trailed back to meet her companion's face, and the player nodded at the man's conviction, her empty fist curled tight into a ball. The small fry were nothing. NIGHT knew that, just as her fingers had relaxed and then gone taut once again. The question was how badly they might fare against the creature that sat within the final bastion of their woodland sanctuary. "Oh, you should vanish before we get to it though. Go go go~." "I got it, I got it." Perhaps the weapon's enthusiasm and bluster fit its new owner well, she figured. Yet he knew that it wasn't even at its full potential quite yet. It probably had quite a ways to go, then maybe... at some point, it would get there. For now though, it was still relatively weak. It could be worked on, to become stronger. It was already good enough though, as is, wasn't it? "I think you're overdoing it for now. I know it's not possible, but... I feel like I can make it even stronger. Somehow.", he nodded to himself and continued down the hallway with NIGHT's form shifting completely out of existence, chuckling to himself. Off they go- and as soon as they stepped into the final room of the sub dungeons, what seemed like logs fell behind the duo to cover up the entrance in full. "... Looks like we're there.", he told NIGHT and nodded to himself with a wary look in his eyes, looking at the massive tree in the middle of the room before his eyes widened. He quickly ran up to it with his sword raised in the air, heaving and slashing down as soon as it began to unroot itself. NIGHT 0 Posted November 9, 2020 #16 Share Posted November 9, 2020 Had the massive tree not been enough to trigger the warning sirens in her head, the moment she'd stepped through the threshold behind her companion, their exit had been barricaded off by a tumble of timber. It was enough to jolt NIGHT on the spot, a yelp bitten back just as she heard ChaseR hit the ground running, a rush towards the boss with a strike for first blood on his own. The player gritted her teeth, following in suit-- it was only when she'd bothered to glance towards her status bar that she realized it was too late to stop her advance towards the greater ent. She couldn't tell which occurred first, that spell of rage or fear, that Jack's Executioner had surged to in its slumber, lashing at tree back with a slick oily curse right after her initial slash had wounded the entity with a white diagonal cut. "Watch this, NIGHT-", he told her, certain that his holy would proc this time. It felt like when it never mattered, it kept hitting every single monster harder than a truck. In the end though, the attack connected and nothing changed. He was just holding his incredibly light two handed blade with both hands, quickly letting go and using the chains to whip at the monster's bark really quickly before retreating. "... It usually triggers more often... Then again, it took me a few days to even realize it had these enhancements to begin with...", he grunted and almost crossed his eyes, having lost all form of interest or fear in the boss. It was just not that strong- as it failed to attack them and already had dropped over half of its health. "Well, at least you were worrying for no reason~." NIGHT 0 Posted November 9, 2020 #18 Share Posted November 9, 2020 Indestructible was the way she'd internalized what her guild leader had mentioned to her -- once, and never more. But try as she might, there was very little keeping her from slipping up on her movements even as Cardinal guided her to victory, in between the toxins in her blade and the flash of another art striking at the tree before them. Being loaded on buffs hadn't erased the idea that running away from their aggravator of a rooted beast was all but restricted, by foot or crystal otherwise. Her last stand, despite the fear she'd imagined she'd put to rest, pulsed through NIGHT's conscious just as her blade found rest in the Allfather once more. Her streak of light seared at the treant's form, beating black but for a moment before the void passed from her vision. As she bounced backwards, the player continued to remain silent, giving ChaseR the go-ahead for a final assault with a nod of her head. ChaseR 0 Posted November 9, 2020 Author #19 Share Posted November 9, 2020 (edited) With NIGHT's acrobatics out of the way, Chase was quick to follow along with her nod and ran straight to the monster, holding his hand out. Small white wisps began to form around his blade, a sign that he very much appreciated. Just when they disappeared into fog though and seemed to go right at his blade to create the rest of its broken half, they just faded away. No matter. The boss needed no more than a single attack to be over with, and that's exactly what Chase did- letdown or no letdown, he ran right at it and rammed his blade right inside of its bark, twisting and turning it to the side before a loud crunch was heard. And with a bright blue explosion of light, the boss died and all of their loot showed up, alongside all the rewards that were very much akin to a quest reward text box. "See? NIGHT 0 Posted November 9, 2020 #20 Share Posted November 9, 2020 A breath escaped NIGHT's maw once the logs from behind them toppled away and scattered into a mass of fading meshes. The starlight might've lightened her companion's perception, but the player still found herself edged on the high of her consumables. Her gaze went to her clock on the interface in her moment of recovery. No more than ten minutes? She ruffled the back of her head at ChaseR's nonchalance-- and then contemplated briefly on the nature of strong preparation. Sure, it'd been enough to tear up the dungeon hold, but... NIGHT hummed back with a nod towards her companion's words. A tilt of her head towards the entrance of the grotto, and the duo started on their shuffle out. The woman stuck her hands into her tracksuit's pockets whilst she walked. --Maybe it was also because ChaseR didn't know of the limitations of the dungeon to begin with that he was able to fight in blissful ignorance.
