» History and Personality: In the beginning, Aoife had a violent, destructive temperament that tended to injure those around her. She was bullied and shunned at school for her destructive nature and earned the nickname 'The Devil's Daughter' as well as 'Little Demon' from her peers. The nicknames only served to anger her more and she retaliated by fighting those who picked on her after school. Aoife had on several occasions lost and was careful to hide the wounds that she could from her family and wrote off any obvious things as just being clumsy. She was afraid to anger her parents by accidentally breaking something so, to prevent problems she often times could be found in her older brother's room since almost nothing there could be easily broken.

 

Aoife grew attached to Zauis and would tag along with him to the arcade for fun. When Zauis was at kendo practice, she would read or draw until he got back. Aoife felt safe around her big brother and always had a smile on her face that only grew more when the bullying lessened and there were very few 'accidents' anymore.

 

At eleven, Aoife's parents began leaving the two alone at the house for business trips that seemed to last forever. Her troubles only multiplied from then on. The bullying became worse than it was before and the fighting turned brutal, as if they were seriously trying to kill her. Since her Mum wasn't home very often, Aoife could get away with using some make-up on the occasional black eye and the bruise that formed around her neck when the one kid had choked her half to death that one time. She missed spending time with Zauis, but between school, homework, studying and the fighting, she didn't have much time to see him other than at breakfast and dinner. Her excuse for the sudden lack of interaction was that she was popular at school so her 'friends' wouldn't leave her much time to herself, which couldn't be further from the truth. The reality was that she was so lonely that it hurt, but she couldn't bring herself to tell her family what was going on. They'd be heartbroken, she was sure, so she kept up the facade of a happy, smiling, trouble-free popular girl.

 

On top of everything, when Aoife's father left for another trip, he ended up dying in a car accident that she was never told the details of. Aoife somehow managed to keep her straight A's from dropping any lower than an A- even with all of her troubles, but she knew that she needed an escape or else she'd end up drowning in the sea of desperation and lies that she'd made for herself.

 

She found that escape by chance during a fight one day. The boy she was fighting had obviously lost by all accounts, but he was too stubborn to admit it. Aoife, who never actually wanted to hurt people, had turned her back on the boy and had started walking away when she suddenly felt a pressure on her right wrist before something sharp slid across her skin. It took her about two seconds to figure out what had happened. The boy had picked up a stray piece of glass and sliced her wrist. It hadn't hurt as much as she expected it would, but then again, it was a shallow and superficial wound. Aoife's fist connected with the boy's stomach and he collapsed, then she snatched the glass from his hand and walked home, wanting to test something. She locked herself in her room and made her very first cut. For the first time in a long time, Aoife could breathe again. From then on, Aoife collected little sharp things for herself, hiding them well enough that it would be impossible for anyone to find them all without her help and she continued to cut. She knew it wasn't a good thing to do, but it made her numb to the feelings that haunted her like ghosts. From here on, Aoife became a cold and unapproachable person at school.

 

Two years later, the first full dive MMO was on the market and Aoife's lucky opponent of the day decided to put it up as a prize for the winner. Aoife obviously won and went home to 'calm down'. On the launch day of Sword Art Online, Aoife and her Mum had a horrible fight about something unexpected from the ever smiling popular girl. Her secret uncovered, Aoife fled to her room and locked the door. She wanted to forget everything and restart her miserable life. With the hope that this would be that do-over, Aoife ignored the pounding of her Mum's fists on her bedroom door and spoke the last two words she'd say in the real world for a long time: Link start!

 

Upon entering the game, Aoife gains dissociative amnesia and loses nearly all of her memories of the outside world. It's just what she wanted. A complete do-over. Without knowing if her real name was even Aoife and not knowing her surname, she dubbed herself Aoife Shadows.

 

Aoife has a cold posterior and has only shown a select few people any emotion except for when she lashes out at any who provoke her, a sign that her old personality is still there. She is a mysterious, intelligent, fiery, and headstrong girl. Her time in Sword Art Online has made her more approachable and outgoing. While she still keeps her emotions in check, Aoife continually lets her guard down for new friends.

» Virtues:
Faithful: Aoife will always help a friend, no matter the situation and would do almost anything to keep those close to her safe. Aoife has always closely treasured the few people that she could count as friends. If something were to happen to one of them, whatever caused it wouldn't be safe from her wrath.

Tenacious: Shadows refuses to back down even when the going gets rough. She has a hard time turning down a fight. This has cost her dearly in the past, but it has also helped her in many situations. While many consider it as reckless, Aoife believes that she wouldn't have lived to this moment without her stubbornness.

Perceptive: Aoife notices the fine details that everyone else misses, allowing her to see the world in a whole new light. She takes note of every detail around her even without consciously realizing that she is doing so. Although helpful in battle, this continually ties into her OCD flaw by noticing immediately if something is out of place even slightly.

Intuitive: Aoife can read people like books without being aware of doing so. This power frightens her at times to the point of running away but is very helpful when she's trying to figure out if someone is trustworthy or not. I'LL KEEP EDITING TOMORROW, SO LEAVE ME ALONE!

» Flaws:
Rebellious: Shadows absolutely hates being controlled or held down in any way making it harder for her to form relationships at all.

Emotionally Detached: Aoife deliberately avoids engaging with others emotions, as she is afraid that she'll break if she exposes herself.

Perfectionist/ OCD/ Picky: Aoife hates to fall short of perfection and likes everything a certain, specific way.

Selfish: Shadows may refuse to help strangers unless the situation is dire. This

Story Thus Far
» Aoife has little to no recollection of her life outside of S.A.O. due to a bout of amnesia that came on for unknown reasons. She wandered from place to place until she stopped at an inn where Cicila, Ryujin, and Snow were staying on the first floor and, after an interesting encounter with the gang, stuck around with them to help (Be the first) defeat the first and second floor bosses. She split away from the group with an old friend, six year old Mavis, and took her to a far corner of floor three to keep her safe and out of harms way. Aoife left Mavis with a trusted friend of hers and raced back to the dungeons. On her way, she met up with Ryu from the group she used to travel with and they started a relationship. Together, they cleared the third floor (First) and raced up to the fourth. After a pointless fight, Aoife and Ryu break up on the 4th floor. In her time alone in the freezing cold of the fourth floor, she found her brothers, Zauis and Asen (Links in relationships). Asen helped her gain a familiar, Cleo, a full grown girl Snow leopard. After wandering the fourth floor for awhile longer, she ran into Ryu and they make amends, then clear the fourth floor together. After the battle, Ryu asks her to marry him and they get engaged. On their way to the dungeons of the fifth floor, Ryu 'dies' in a collasping building during a sandstorm, crushing Aoife's resolve. Aoife, unable to take the loss, decided to take on a new persona by changing her hair colour and eye colour. Aoife was last seen picking up the pieces of her broken and betrayed heart on the fifth floor.
