Instead he would often fade into the background, partially by choice but mostly because it was easier to let things slide. Why act when it’s not your place? He can let the world skate by with no problems, and when there are problems he can turn away and ignore them. People would cling to the boy in some situations, but he would never really pay them much mind, acting almost as if they weren’t there. When it came to interests, Yasu hardly stuck to any one longer than a week at most. He wanted the payout more than he was willing to work, so if he didn’t see incredible progress he would set it down and move on. He had tried books, but they didn’t hold a buzz. He tried TV but it was too time consuming. He refused to try sports because it was more work than it’s worth, making a living out of something that was little more than a hobby. One of the few things he did enjoy was a cafe, not far from his home. He would go and sit on the terrace, play some calming music through his headphones, and watch the people go on with their lives. He’d ponder what he thought they were going through, and what he would do in those situations. Because of his very apathetic nature, Yasu hardly thought of himself as a hero type. Sticking up for others was a waste of time, and all it did was get more people hurt, himself especially. He wasn’t weak, but he was definitely below average, sleeping when he wasn’t otherwise occupied was definitely not a good way to stay in shape. Because of this way of thinking though, he had grown numb to the world, hardly even sticking up for himself. Just roll with the punches right? One day, he had crossed off pretty much every cliche hobby a teenager could have, before deciding to finally try out the most common. Video games. He had heard about one where you don’t even have to move your thumbs, so he thought he’d check it out. The idea of a fantasy setting hardly sold him, but if he was being honest he was going to buy it no matter what. Not because he was passionate about video games, moreso passionate about being lazy. He would do whatever he could to not have to do anything. But SAO was anything but fulfilling. The game required you to do stuff so he would find himself wandering town, a place very different from his home, lost in the wonders of the past and present, but at the same time still empty. After a little over three minutes, he would try to sign out, only to see the option missing. ”What a waste of time.” Virtues Easy-going: Much like everything else in his life, Yasu cares little about most things people say or do. He’ll often let them be, even at the expense of his own well being. If they want to cling to him despite his distance, they’re welcome to, but their attention will not be returned. Smart: After years of spending time watching people do their own thing, Yasu has gotten pretty good at drawing conclusions based on what little information he has. His grades were great despite him never studying, his memory is sharp as a tack, and his wit is faster than lightning. Now if only he cared enough to let other people know his thoughts or do something about them, he might have friends. Attentive: Yasu has always paid close attention to small details, the slightest change in the tone of voice could signify a request that will cost him so much energy, and time he could be spending sleeping. He watches closely, keeping his eyes fixated on a single point to absorb as much information as he can so that maybe he can come up with a good reason to stay out of it. Even if it cost him his precious time, he would spend a few extra minutes now if it saved him even one in the future. Flaws Lazy: Yasu will go to great lengths to keep from doing something, with a few key exceptions. If he absolutely needs to do something he will, but if there’s a chance nothing bad will happen, he will do nothing. Although sometimes social pressure can break this rule, most people don’t like him enough to stay around, let alone ask him to come along. Cold: Yasuhiro has a tendency to not care for other people. He doesn’t do it on purpose, he’d just much rather be by himself and it shows. He’s not a very good liar, and even worse at hiding his lack of interest. Despite this, he does like people, he just thinks that his time could be better spent. Fixated: Yasu cares about one thing and one thing only, keeping his activity to a minimum. If he could lay in bed a whole day without getting up he would, and often he will take questionable actions to keep from doing things. Nothing holds his attention, so he’s often caught distracted by his thoughts, generally of him being alone in a room watching the ceiling rot, or sleeping while everyone else does their thing.
