No footstep marked the entry mat and there were no sounds of entry. Perhaps it was just the wind howling against the walls? Nothing. A glance outside revealed a calm, temperate day. The leaves dangled limply from their branches. There was no wind to gust. The tiny silver bell on the desk rang overly loud, breaking the suspenseful silence, but revealed only a note left on the counter.
