The pleasant smile on her features as well tends to make others feel a bit at ease around her, but her eyes contain a keen intellect… and those who are skilled at reading people would definitely notice that the easy smile she wears doesn’t quite reach her eyes. She carries herself easily, with a relaxed posture and an approachable demeanor, always available with a quick smile and a laugh. Her armored dress keeps her protected and fashionable both! Profile Username: Astreya Real name: Iris Raine Age: 19 Gender: Female Height: 5’8” About: History/Personality Reveal hidden contents Iris was a girl who didn’t really do a whole lot with gaming, growing up. While her mother was a kind and gentle woman that helped to foster her daughter’s interests, her father was a strict fellow that left very little time for her to enjoy things ‘for fun.’ Studies, chess, and the discipline of martial arts were among the main things that he had tried to instill into the young woman. Up until she entering into her teenage years, the young woman was dutiful and responsive to both parents, but it was at that time she began to start to exploring her own independence. The young woman was raised to be clever and quick on her feet and that had been great… up until she realized that she could use those wits to enjoy life to the fullest. While she wasn’t exactly a ‘party girl,’ she was still very much a socialite, often having a few different friend groups all at once for various interests. It wasn’t until she’d met a young man named Zack that she ever had any interest at all in gaming. He had invited her to play a game with him a few times, and the two had started to get rather close, even to her father’s annoyance. But in heading off to college, she was even more outside of her father’s thumb, and Zack, being a long-time, major gamer, had a major influence on her. But he had managed to, due to his long history with MMORPGs, get not only one, but two spots in the opening for Sword Art: Online. Iris hadn’t been super psyched about it, but had steadily gotten more interested when she’d found out about the fact that it was using the NerveGear and was willing to give it a shot alongside her boyfriend. Of course, things unfolded in the worst way possible, and after the announcement came that death was permanent, the girl had started to panic. Zack had tried to keep her calm and the two had started to learn the basics of the game, but just over a week into the game, Zack had been killed in front of her. That had terrified the girl, leaving her alone in the main starting city for a very long time… It still affects her, but she had begun to start to seek to exit on her own strength, rather than waiting for the front lines teams to handle it on their own. She also began to understand that they weren’t going to have replacement people if someone fell, and as such, she realized that those like her that were staying in the starting town were an active liability. Virtues: Reveal hidden contents Tactical: Iris was raised by her military father with an understanding of tactical situations. She was taught with both things like Chess, as well as even in games with her friends while she was growing up. A game like Tag had become an exercise in identifying the weakest and strongest targets, and adjusting herself accordingly. As such, she has a mind for such things, even now when she hasn’t actively participated in them for some time. Social: With her transition to being out from under her father’s thumb, Iris has begun to become much more sociable. Of course, she had also used her instincts in reading situations to now apply to reading people. While Sword Art: Online had certainly made things a little more difficult in reading body language, over the time she’s been here, she’s learned a bit more on how to do so, allowing her to get a better gauge on what people are really thinking and saying, outside of their words. Iron Will: When setting her mind to something, Iris will certainly do everything her power to ensure it gets completed. Setbacks and defeats will not daunt her as much as they would otherwise, allowing her to remain headstrong and focused. Currently, this focus is on getting to the front lines and helping out, no longer willing to just be an extra. Flaws: Reveal hidden contents Fear of Death: This fear tends to cover not only herself, but also extend out to any of the other player characters as well. Having witnessed the death of her boyfriend firsthand in the game, Iris has developed something of a paranoia regarding it. It drives her to focus on protecting herself and her allies (if any) and tends to be a little on the cautious side when it comes to taking on tasks. Guarded: After losing her boyfriend so suddenly, and also being separated from the others she knows for several years now, Iris has a difficult time in letting people in. She can still be chatty and talkative, but it’s clear that most of that is superficial and that actual talk about her is rarely discussed. She’ll divert topics and change the subject to get away from actually talking about herself. Hypocritical: While she will never actually admit to being a hypocrite, Iris has a tendency to ignore many of her own failings in order to point out those of others. This is a rather strong failing of hers and she will not see any flaws in her own methods, or will make justifications for them to the point of arguing, even when pointing out similar flaws in another person’s methodology. He seems a little bit snarky at times, and he had a really weird interest in Lethia's snake and poisons. It seems he's got a babysitter too, and he does like doing experiments, with a spare room for potion-making?? Astralin Griswold Would Like a Word Bright and cheerful! Doesn't like Libby, the nickname I tried to give her. She's also got a nasty kick! Lethia Griswold Would Like a Word Kind of a mature lady, seems a little sultry. Plini didn't fall for it, but she didn't seem to mind. Maybe she just likes to play? Freyd What's this game about? Kind of a weird guy. Might be a little crazy? He talked to the gate guy, and named him Marv. Seemed to have history. Melissa Getting Out There She's from France! Really fun to hang out with!
