[PP-19] Ki'Raioning and on and on... <<Keep Calm and Ki-Raion>> [Abandoned]

<<Keep Calm and Ki-Raion>>

Listening to the elder's tale, Freyd found it remarkable how Ki-Riaon's updated form was said to offer a great boon to healing, and healers in particular.  Firm Anima would need this.  So would the player base at large, especially if the rumours coming in were true.  Aincrad had changed into a harsher and deadlier version of itself in the aftermath of Shadow's defeat.  Part of him genuinely wondered if he had been.  The end of the raid itself was still a nightmare-filled jumble of memories faded to black.  The truth of events might be anything, and he'd be hard pressed to confirm or deny any theory.  Vagaries never sat well with the Whisper, who found himself instinctively grimacing as he struggled to clear his recollections.

Our favourite cat-like friend has revealed a little treat that you might like.  Meet me in 'Home', on Floor 19.  The level has changed a bit, and so has this quest.  I suspect that you will enjoy the rewards.

Valentine managed to clean up the room in his estate. Having the place alone left a lot to be desired. He found the overall change in Aincrad made it easier for him to focus on other things. Not the fact that his life was falling apart. A notification on his hud caught his eye. Valentine gave a nod before sending his response message.

Sure. I will be there in a jiffy.

Valentine found himself back on floor 19. Even with a good memory it did him no good. The floors changed a lot more than he remembered. Before it was just a straight walk, this time he was heading in the same direction. “Sherry. I do not remember this Bastion wall shrine being a thing before.” Valentine calmly stated as he walked across the large stone bridge. He made sure to keep his eyes up so as to not peer into the deep chasm below. It was nice that the forbidden lands had more of an entrance this time. It was like begging people to stay away.

He made his way deeper into the place. This time he was calmer as he was a lot stronger as well. He spotted Freyd in the distance and walked over gingerly. “I made….” Valentine quickly shut up. A lot of people lost strength after Aincrad changed. It was his first time meeting Freyd in a while. It made him a tad bit unsure if the man was weaker. It was why he quit talking when he noticed the quest boss.

“I can only hope this reward is good.” He said through a clenched smile. At the thought of fighting the boss again.

Freyd pursed his lips, appreciating Valentine's reaction for what it was.  "All of our knowledge and assumptions have been brought into question.  I'd rather have a strong healer at my back before taking this on again, and that means you.  We both know the drill.  This thing hit hard last time.  It may hit even harder now.  But if the intel I got from my broker contact is correct, the perk at the end will be especially worthwhile for you as a healer.  That will save lives, which makes it worth the risk."  He looked over at Valentine, with pragmatic confidence in his eyes.

"If things go wrong," he flipped him a teleport crystal, "I want you to get the hell out of here.  Got it?"  In this moment, Freyd was acting as O&I's captain, and looking after his own.  Though they had run a few quests together, it was his sense that Val's level of devotion to Firm Anima was tenuous, especially after the business with ChaseR.  That didn't matter one whit at the moment. He wasn't about to risk a guild member's life unnecessarily, under any circumstance.

"Are you good, or do you need a minute?"

Valentine gave a nod but his eyes never left the boss. “I appreciate it but if we die then neither of us did our jobs very well.” Valentine could be considered a lot of things by a lot of people. The one thing he could never be called was a coward. Would strategic retreat be smart under circumstances? Yes, if the situation calls for it live to fight another day. It did not mean he would abandon people. The Moss people were never cowards.

“Let’s get this show on the road. Sherry ready to play.” The cobra flicked her tongue. She could be a blood thirsty little minx. Valentine started off with giving Freyd a Hyperactive boost. Energy levels were something he noticed were harder to moderate. It was why taking off the pressure before the fight even started went a long way to the overall flow of the battle. It was that and Val felt bad that he forgot to bring any crystals with him.

Freyd rushed forward, a sliver of graspable nothingness appearing in his hands as he ran.  Halfway to their common target, he planted one end of his weapon in a perfectly placed nook in the rocky ground, vaulting himself high into the air and placing the blazing sun at his back.  Ki-Raion, even empower as it was by that source of brilliance, was blinded to his approach.  The impact created  a crack of thunder the spread outward like a wall of wind, scattering dust and debris in every direction even as the lion's face formed the epicenter of a new crater in the landscape.  Freyd's form skidded along the mob's back, like a Flinstone on a dinosaur, bleaching the grey surface white wherever his feet made contact.

Ki'Raion, its butt and tail high in the air as all its weight bore onto its head, made only the softest feline whimper in response, and didn't move.
