[F01-PP] The Next Step | <<The Second Lesson>>

Recommended Posts

Astreya had mentioned that there was a second person that had apparently been waiting on her to help with the next stage of this quest. She almost felt bad for taking her time up, if that was the case, but going with all 3 of them would probably make things way quicker. "I'm fine with another person, yes. That'll get things done faster, and it'll be someone else new to meet, as well. Making allies in a death game like this is always a good thing...", she replied, rolling her neck a little as she started walking towards where the quest had directed her.

Next up on the list was some kind of blacksmith. What'd be the reward from this, she wondered? It followed that if the alchemist had given potions, then the blacksmith would give gear as a reward. That'd come in handy to have, though she had doubts that there would be anything that would surpass her current weapon for the moment. Maybe not even until she reached Tier 2, and enhancements began to get expontentially better.

Astreya gave a small nod to Melissa then as the woman agreed to have another come along with them.  "Okay cool.  I had told her I'd be coming back today to check on some things first and help with part two and three before I ran off all over Aincrad," the girl spoke.  "So she should be waiting for us there.  I hope," the girl spoke, giving a small, almost nervous laugh as they began to make their way toward where Lyle had been setup.

On the way there, Astreya grinned as she saw Etherial loitering around nearby and the dark-haired girl raised both of her hands in greeting.  "Hheeeeeyyyyy!  Etherial!  I got someone else to help with this quest too!" she called out as she approached, rushing a bit ahead of Melissa as she drew closer to the other girl.  "I got distracted helping Melissa out, but she's on this quest too.  Why not knock it out together, right?" she asked, grinning, before looking to Melissa.  "Etherial, this is Melissa.  Melissa, Etherial.  Now let's go deal with that jerk blacksmith."

Etherial waited as her new friend Astreya was suppose to meet up with her to do another quest. But this time they would have another person joining them. From what she heard about this quest even low levels kind of have issues fighting the mobs. But that shouldn’t stop her from completing it. After all there’s going to be two of them working on it.

As she sees the two approach she hear Astreya shout out something but as they got closer she heard her clear as day. Then the introduction between the two of them came and she did a little curtsy toward the new girl.

“Glad to meet you.” She replied after Astreya introduced her to her. It wasn’t to often she’ll meet new players on here. Specially if they’re just like her and finally left The Town of Beginnings. As she looked at her she sees that she’s fairly new to the fighting as well but they should be able to get through this quest without any problem.

Running off all over Aincrad? What was Astreya even doing that would take her so far over? Another quest, perhaps? Either way, it'd be something to ask about later, not now. Because now was when they had to go deal with the blacksmith that her companion had called a jerk. So that's the kind of character he was, huh? From a bumbling mayor, to a kindly alchemist, to a rude blacksmith. What would be next, she wondered?

When Astreya greeted the other girl that was lingering around, Melissa did so too, with a quick wave and a friendly smile. The curtsy earned a slightly surprised look. This girl was pretty fancy...or at least had good manners. It was a stark contrast to herself, who was just a random sub-urban girl. She wasn't going to let that bother her though, and the redhead gave a nod of acknowledgement. "Nice to meet you too, Etherial. Let's not waste any time with this, yeah?", she questioned, before answering it herself by pushing open the door to the blacksmith.

"All right!  Let's do this!" Astreya cheered as she offered for Etherial to go in after Melissa.  After all, she'd already done this quest- she was basically just here to help out and make sure they didn't get in over their heads.  As a Tank, she was going to be easily able to do that... but she didn't want to push things without their consent at all.

Once inside, the grumpy tone from Lyle immediately got on Astreya's nerves.  He seemed even worse now than he had been before when she'd done this quest on her own.  What the heck?  Did the developers just watch his interactions with some of the characters and then make adjustments to make them even more unlikeable?

"Between the two of you guys it shouldn't take very long to do.  I'm not sure if I'll be able to target the boars at all since they'll be part of your quests, but we'll see," she spoke, nodding slightly.

She smiles a little before being waves on into the door. It wasn’t often that she would have to deal with a grumpy person offering quest. But this didn’t really bother her at all. The only thing interesting for her is the quest.

After accepting the quest she looked over at the two. “You guys ready?” She grabs onto her rapier as she starts heading toward the door. Now the only thing she needs to worry about is what’s going to be ahead. Fighting boars shouldn’t be to difficult. But she’ll find out when she’s out there on the field.

“So… where are we heading to? You probably know the way better than the two of us Astreya.” She wasn’t trying to push herself but the quicker they get done with this quest the quicker they can continue on with leveling up and getting out of this death game. It’s only a matter of time though as she has a long journey in front of her.

Well, Astreya was certainly right when she said the guy was a jerk. How rude! They hadn't even managed to get a word in edgeways before he had shooed them out to go collect boar tusks. Absolutely ridiculous! He could at least have listened when they said they weren't even there for that, but nooo, he had to go and assume he was right and that they were there for something. What an ass.

With that thought on her mind, Melissa huffed in annoyance as they walked out, hands on her hips. She shook her head in frustration, long red hair bobbing and bouncing as she did so. "Blaireau! How rude. I guess that's how he's programmed, but still, can't help but hate them even if he has to be like that", she complained.

"Well, what's the way, Astreya? Killing some boars will help us to release some frustration a bit, at least. I hope getting these tusks doesn't take as long as you say, though, or I'm going to end up in an even worse mood...", she questioned, one hand resting on the pommel of her sword while she tapped her foot.

With both Etherial and Melissa waiting on her to lead the way, Astreya nodded, grinning.  "I sure hope not!  It didn't take me nearly as long with the Boars as it did with the flowers, but all the same it still took way too long for my liking," the girl responded as she led the pair out of the Town, the young woman lifting a hand to wave to Marv on the way out.  Per usual, the gate guard didn't respond in the slightest, but that was okay.   She knew.

Once outside, she pointed toward the forest just outside the Town of Beginnings.  "That's where I found them the first time.  C'mon," she spoke.  "I just hope the quest itself hasn't changed.  We shouldn't need to go too far in.  I think they just kinda nest in the edges of the forest and like, do their hunting or whatever in the field?" she offered, not really sure how digital boars worked for their day-to-day.

Listening to the two of them talk as she sees Astreya point in the general direction. It was here on out she started to move little faster than normal. Seeing the forest and a few boar and other creatures hanging around the outskirts of it. Looking to the right though is a open field with more mob that wasn’t as important at the moment.

Looking behind her real quick to see where the other two are at compare to her she was shocked to see them still right behind her. The only thing now is the fighting part of the quest.

“I hope you brought you’re a-game on. We’re going boar hunting” As she smiles as her teammates caught up with them. The only thing that’s stepping in her way between her and the boars is a staggered of trees crossing their paths with the four of five boars that’s feasting off there prey.

Hearing Astreya mention not knowing their routine made Melissa wonder...what did the boars even do, day to day? Did they have a proper AI like some of the other NPCs? Or did they simply have a dumb AI that just had them mill about and attack targets nearby? The processing power of using the latter for every single mob would absolutely absurd, so it had to be the former. No way they had the technology to handle something like that yet!

"Well, we've got Astreya here to help out if things go...absolutely terrible, but ideally we won't need to worry about that. Are these the exact boars for the quest, or is it fine to just kill generics?", she questioned, looking towards Astreya for an answer to her question. Perhaps if it was the former, they'd be weaker? She also supposed it was possible that they would be harder, but this was a tutorial quest, so surely they wouldn't be that sadistic about it....

Either way, she stepped forward with Etherial and drew her own blade, ready to fight whatever it was they ended up needing to actually fight.

"You two are gonna need to do all them boar hunts," the young woman spoke with a grin, her hand on the hilt of her weapon as she looked on at the pair of them.  "I didn't get any quest prompt for when you guys got it, so I figure if I smack any of the boars they'll become non-quest boars or something," the girl commented, giving a slight shrug.  "It'll probably be better if you guys wanna handle them," she added, nodding at what Melissa said.

"And yeah!  Like, if things get too crazy or if you get in over your heads I can, like, totally jump in and help make sure that everything is okay," the girl spoke, giving a grin and a nod at the pair of them.

She glanced at Lissa then, giving a light shrug.  "When I did the quest last time, Lyle specified 'boar pups.'  This time he did say 'boarlets' so I guess we wanna look for the little ones?" she asked, tilting her head to the side.

With no time to waste she went to unsheathe her rapier, charging up her sword art she would target it at one of the boarlets that was hanging around the area. Unfortunately she missed it. Although it was a miss it didn’t bring her down at all. It was actually to be expected for someone like her with her stats to not hit her target instantly.

“Awe. I missed. I’ll get it next time.” She smiles a little. The next thing she notice was the red haired girl pulling right next to her with her sword already out and ready to go. It was no doubt she was ready to defeat this quest as much as she did.

“I hope my formal self didn’t make you feel uncomfortable. I kind of grew up with a rich family with strict parents.” She explained as she would get ready for her next approach.

Just boarlets, huh? So they were weaker than usual, that was a relief. The boars from before had required her to have Astreya step in and take their heads, but if they were weaker, she was certain she could handle them. Plus, Etherial was even stronger than she was, so it was certain not to be an issue.

Still, even if they were weaker, that didn't mean they should simply let them do whatever they wanted, so when Melissa noticed that Etherial missed the boarlet, she stepped in to take it down herself before it could strike against her companion. It'd do minimal damage thanks to her mitigation, but when death was a possibility, no risks could be taken.  The redhead moved in and performed her own Sword Art, three hits that sent the Boarlet scattering into red pieces.

"If we go one at a time, then we can pick up the slack for if one of us misses. And uh...not really uncomfortable. Just not used to it. I'm about as boring and normal as you can get, so..." She trailed off with a shrug, before readying to handle more Boarlets.

When it came down to it, Astreya must have had it rather easy with her whole gear setup in comparison to these two.  Mostly just due to the fact that she was able to take on entire groups of these boarlets without an issue, and that would allow her to farm much more effectively when it came to it.  "My dad tried to raise me all formal but my mom kinda let me get away with a lot of stuff, so it never really stuck," the girl added into the conversation, grinning slightly.  "But he was kind of a stick in the mud anyway," she murmured, adjusting her weapon as the two girls went at the boarlet, taking it down.

"Nice job!  If we keep it to one at a time it'll stay super safe for you guys.  Let me see if I can aggro one..." she spoke, before moving toward a group.  Her level was high enough that she was nearly right up on them before one turned and seemed to come toward her, readying for battle.

After hearing everyone talk little more about their personal life she gives another smile before Astreya dragged another one towards them. With time though she would attack it but before she charged the same sword art. This time though it would hit and deal it’s max damage to the boarlet.

“Well that’s easy. To bad”

Etherial didn’t mind. She actually was more interested in becoming a support than dealing ton of damage. But for now she’ll be content with doing what she’s doing.

“I’ll have to agree it be easier if we did them one at a time. Considering that I can only deal a max of four damage each time I use my sword art.”

With that though she would wait to see what the red-haired girl would do. This quest is actually going fairly well. But it’s probably going to change if they have to fight a bigger boar. But for now she’ll be content with the easy task of fighting the boarlets.

Melissa didn't really delay, leaping into action the moment Etherial had taken down her own boar. It was good that she could oneshot them with that Sword Art, at least, though even if she couldn't she supposed that she herself could soften them up while Etherial could finish them off for her own tusks. For now though, she was simple going to work on finishing her own part of the quest. Then, she could work on helping out Etherial. Rapiers probably didn't have any AoE arts, so while she killed another one, Melissa herself could soften up a couple more.

The redhead charged towards another pair of boarlets, sword held at the ready. Once she was in range, she lashed out with her Blast art as she had before. Unfortunately, the second swing meant for the second boar went completely wide, leaving it alive...though at least she managed to kill one and get that tusk! "Ugh...I'm fine! I can handle one Boarlet. Just focus on your own", she called out, not wanting to distract her companion away from her own enemies.

"That's no big deal!  The Boarlets aren't all that strong anyway so even if it takes you a couple turns to knock one down, you should be able to do so no problem!" Astreya cheered toward Etherial, the girl noting that her arts weren't exactly the strongest yet.  Astreya figured that she might have had a little bit of an edge, using a two-handed weapon like she did.  She hadn't done any math on it, but it sure seemed like she could put out a decent amount of damage with it.

But the girl was able to knock the boar out and get another tusk for herself, leaving Melissa to jump toward a pair of the little creatures.  It seemed like they were getting a bit bolder now- that was good!  Well, not good to get too bold, but all the same.  "Go guys go!  Kick their little boar butts!" she cheered, hopping up and down.

It didn't take long for the next boar to show up to her. In matter of fact there's so many of them in the area she was surprised they all didn't come all at once. Maybe because it's part of the quest or maybe because this is still the beginner's floor. Either way it was quite easy to pick a target and go with it.

With that though, she spotted the boar that was targeting her next. With a quick leap, she would charge up her sword art and attack and manage to hit. Killing the boar and the boar blowing up into million of pixel shards.

"Well that was easy."

She chuckled a little as she waited to see what Astraya would do next.

"How many more are we needing to continue on? I can't imagine it being to much longer."

It wouldn't shock her one bit if there was quite a bit more do to before completing this quest.
