However, this small setback provided two major benefits. The first was that the gatherer skill was in it's own separate quest, which meant he could reap it's experience points as a reward in addition to the skill itself. However the second benefit, was that the skill wasn't a skill anymore. It was a secondary profession skill, which saved him a lot of skill points. After reading up on the profession in the update, and from the broker's information, this profession allowed the player to find materials (in other words one couldn't search for materials without it), have the potential to find more than one (like the gathering skill), but also have the chance to locate a demonic shard. He had to max it out, but it would definitely be worth it in the end. Reaching the NPC's campsite, which tended to move around throughout the floor. As he approached the questgiver, she spoke first prior to his arrival. "So, it appears you've found me," she comments, though not unkindly. "I tend to move around quite a lot, but someone always finds me. I suppose you are looking for some herbs?" "More like learning to find them... A second time." She looked at him and raised a brow at that. He just shrugged. "Things change."
Itzal 0 Posted April 13, 2021 Author #2 Share Posted April 13, 2021 The woman's eyes widened slightly and she pulled her hood down and looked at him curiously. "Most simply expect me to gather their materials for them, but few truly care about the process itself. You surprise me." Itzal shrugged, his hands in his pockets. "I've always been the kind of person to rely on myself, and I have a good eye. Might as well right?" He waited patiently as the woman dug into her dress's pocket and pulled out a compass and handed it to him. To this, Itzal was slightly confused before finally taking the compass. "You may borrow my compass. Dark magic has made it capable of locating an incredibly rare item called a Demonic Shard. Should you find one, and bring it back to me, you will prove yourself worthy of my teachings. Take care, and may good fortune travel with you." With that the NPC dialogue ended and she continued with her business. Looking at the compass curiously, he began to walk away. As he did so he watched as the compass was pointing in a general direction, however the needle wavered a little bit, making it difficult to find materials precisely... Even still, he had the general direction. As he traveled he found lots of materials, but they were all ungatherable due to them being part of Giovanna's garden. Which meant he still had to press on even further. ID# 188189 LD: 3 Nothing Found
Itzal 0 Posted April 13, 2021 Author #3 Share Posted April 13, 2021 He wasn't used to going in a very specific direction when looking for materials. The act of following a compass was something entirely new to Itzal. As he followed the line of sight, he had the urge to take the hidden trails he knew to places where materials once grew much more bountiful. But he stayed true to the item the quest had given him. The floors had changed as of late, as well as the quests he'd been observing. To the point where he thought of taking a few of them all over again. The truth of the matter was, he'd been doing research into all the floors and quests he could, but until players started taking those quests again there wasn't much info to go around. Even the brokers only had hear say and rumors. All of them baseless. Which meant he'd be going in blind for the most part... But, even if he did go in blind, he wanted to at least be able to find himself some materials to work with. Hence why he was here. He needed to get the gatherer skill not just to gather materials, but the demonic shards in particular. Those were going to be the key to obtaining demonic items. Those and the rainbow scales Zandra could fish would be vital. ID# 188190 LD:
Itzal 0 Posted April 13, 2021 Author #4 Share Posted April 13, 2021 While it had been a while since he'd actually searched around for materials, he had not lost his skill in it. The only thing he had lost was his ability to look for them regardless, and now that he had taken the quest he'd earned that back. If anything he just lost the clusters of materials he'd harvest with the gathering skill. Therefore it didn't take very long at all for him to scan the area for materials, and spot some immediately. It wasn't something he was used to though. Walking up to a tree where the material flashed for a second, he pulled it off the tree. Moss? He opened up the flavor text and read it. Evidently the moss was called 'emerald dust moss'. It glittered in moonlight, and if left on top of a stone over the full moon, it transformed the stone into a song crystal. Surprised to find such a thing, he added it to his inventory and checked the compass. He was still on the right way, so at least there was that. He wondered where this demonic shard could possibly be though... He was racking his mind through the different locations players could find in this direction but nothing was coming to mind. A clearing in the forest? A cave? Maybe a dungeon? ID# 188256 LD: 11 CD: 3 Total: 0 MAT, 0 DEM
Itzal 0 Posted April 13, 2021 Author #5 Share Posted April 13, 2021 In the end the trip did not take as long as he worried it would. Maybe it was due to him having skill in traversing the forests already, or his sharp senses, but he eventually reached a small clearing with a multitude of berry bushes, flowers, mossy vines and all sorts of other things. The compass led him to the generally center area, but wouldn't point to the dead center. As soon as he entered the area the compass started spinning around, pointing at everything. Activating the searching skill he scanned the area for anything he may be able to use when he spotted something glittering in the grass. Walking over he reached down and picked up the object. Resting in his hands was what he assumed was the demonic shard. It looked like a smokey, black glassy crystal with a reddish/orange pulsing glow coming from within it. Ironically he didn't have to investigate as he received the notification that he had successfully completed the quest's task. "......Well that was easy." He turned to go back but saw another material in addition to the shard he'd found and added it to his material list... Maybe he should keep looking for materials before heading back he thought to himself. It would definitely be worth it. Shrugging, he decided to take his time on the return trip and take the scenic route. ID# 188261 LD: 10 CD: 7 Total:
Itzal 0 Posted April 19, 2021 Author #6 Share Posted April 19, 2021 With the rushing part over with, all he had to do now was have a leisurely walk. As he did so he paid very close attention to the floor he was traversing... On his way towards this quest, he actually saw what appeared to be a monument which hadn't been there before. Upon checking it's flavor text, it was evidently placed there in honor of the floor's labyrinth boss, a reminder to low leveled players never to underestimate low leveled monsters. It was an interesting concept if anything. Something else he hadn't seen before were horse drawn carriages and lone ridable horses available to players. Not only that but some of the locations within the floor had seemed to become more clear, fresh, almost clean. As if someone took a messy piece of art, and fixed it up a bit to take something chaotic and making something beautiful out of it. Maybe the game development was rushed, and now that Kayaba was in this situation he could fine tune everything to his exact liking... While he was thinking of this he of course multitasked by looking for any materials, but wasn't seeing anything. While disappointed, he couldn't say he was surprised exactly. So he continued to move on and search for more. ID# 189536 LD: 6 Nothing
Itzal 0 Posted April 19, 2021 Author #7 Share Posted April 19, 2021 It wasn't just this floor of course. Many floors had changed. He personally hadn't been exploring many of them, he didn't have the time right now. However the fact remained. In addition to putting two and two together, or the fact that if his floor (floor two) and floor one had been changed to such a drastic manner, that the rest of the floors would likely be similarly affected (especially since the higher floors had far less within them than the lower floors), there were also all of the stories and rumors exploding everywhere. There was so much gossip that Itzal didn't even have to contact the information brokers to get info on the other floors. From what he could tell, not only was the landscape drastically better, more efficient and cleaned up, but the lore in the many floors and backstories had exploded. Everywhere you went, you could find potential lore for the floors. And many of the... Very odd locations that didn't make that much sense, such as floor one's temple, had been removed entirely. Only lasting in the memories of players, and otherwise faded from existence. A nice smell of mint suddenly reached Itzal's senses and he tracked it to a fern that could be used for spices. Adding it to his inventory, he moved on. ID# 189538 LD: 12 Total: 0 MAT, 0 DEM
Itzal 0 Posted April 19, 2021 Author #8 Share Posted April 19, 2021 Not only that, but from what he heard most of the quests had changed as well. Not all of them from what he heard, but most of them. In fact, many of the quests which were nothing more than go in, kill this sucker, then get the item and go, were taken out entirely. What's more, those same bosses had actually been appearing outside of quests as field bosses. Places where there was no quest before had quests now, and any floor that still had no quests now at least had a field boss that players could mess around with for a little while. Some of the quests he heard that changed drastically were dragon hunter anthology, the treant and elf wars, and a couple of others, while most of them were minor changes or just fleshed out a little bit. And then a few, such as betrayal of the king, didn't seem to change whatsoever. There were so many changes and Itzal wanted to experience them all. However, that would have to take a back seat until he got the vitals out of the way... He needed the gathering skill so he could maximize it's experience points. Once he maxed it out he could grind for demonic shards. Maybe he could grind the nature's quest with someone... ID# 189548 LD: 6 No MAT Total: 0 MAT, 0 DEM
Itzal 0 Posted April 24, 2021 Author #9 Share Posted April 24, 2021 So much lore had changed it was too much for Itzal to process all in one day. Hell, the other day he was looking over a list of sword arts and he discovered a new feature of the game's system. Going over them he noticed a drop-menu button and pressed it. Upon doing so, he encountered what were called 'Sword Art Skins'. Essentially, he could take the sword art meteor break, along with any other skill, and customize it's name and how it triggered. By setting the activation conditions for certain skins, writing it's name, and then turning that skin on, should he ever use said activation method, he would trigger that particular custom skin. It wasn't it's own sword art of course, meaning regardless of what skin he used, the sword art 'meteor break' would still go on cooldown, and it's effects would be the same. However, it was a fun cosmetic. He could even specify what the sword art glow would look like, change the name of the skin, and so forth! He wasted hours setting all of the skins to ones he enjoyed. Spotting an edible and rather flavorful mushroom he plucked it and added it to his inventory as he thought about the multitude of skins he chose for just the one sword art.. Itzal 0 Posted April 27, 2021 Author #10 Share Posted April 27, 2021 He had sword art skins for when he came out of stealth, when he stabbed his opponent, slashed at them, or even just smacking them on the back of the head with the butt of his sword. He had sword art skins for when he did complex moves, simplistic moves, feints and all sorts of other combinations. He looked it up and found that if one had a chosen familiar mastery activated, there were more sword art skins available. In fact, each skill that could be used in an attack added to the skin list. The sheer number astounded Itzal when he really thought about it. He wondered how long Kayaba had been working on that particular part of the system... Turning to Aldion he used his imagination to view a scenario where the two of them were activating one such skin. Maybe with the grappling mastery for him, where Aldion pins down his target, then Itzal leaps into the sky before thrusting his blade downward into his foe with a crimson flash of light. He chuckled at the corniness of this thought, but he enjoyed it. And that's what mattered right? His search skill rang, indicating an object falling down at him. He reached up and grabbed it before it hit his head. An apple? He smiled as he pocketed the material. He took that as a yes. ID# 191020 LD: 13 Total: 0 MAT, 0 DEM
Itzal 0 Posted May 21, 2021 Author #11 Share Posted May 21, 2021 On the topic of skins, cosmetics and the like, he wondered what else could have been made available for players. He knew that there were some potions that could give some sort of cosmetic effect, but he really hadn't seen too much of them. Probably because they didn't have any mechanical benefit to the game. They couldn't increase or reduce stealth rating. They didn't increase your attack damage or mitigation. They couldn't heal you, or light up the area. They were just that: cosmetics. As far as he knew, they weren't a 'pay to win' type of deal. They cost col yeah, but that was about it. He wondered though what sort of cosmetic he would purchase if he did want to use one at some point. He honestly wasn't all that sure about it... As Are, probably something regarding shadow. Nothing flashy like bright lights, and nothing too heavy or horror-like such as a black mist or fog. In fact, he really didn't think there was any proper cosmetic out there for him as Are. Now as Itzal.. Actually he didn't really know any cosmetic that would work for him in general. He'd heard of glitter effects, sparkling effects, lighting effects, glowing effects, darkness effects, even background music, but none of it sounded like it would suit him. As he thought about this he spotted another material. This one being an average quartz, and put it in his inventory. ID# 193783 LD: 10 Total: 0 MAT, 0 DEM
Itzal 0 Posted May 22, 2021 Author #12 Share Posted May 22, 2021 He hadn't really thought about it for very long when Aldion pecked him on the head. "Ouch! Oh there you are Aldion. Where have you been?" The black raven simply cawed and hopped onto the player's shoulder, to which he chuckled. "Alright alright. It doesn't matter all that much anyways." He stroked the raven who closed his eyes in response. Smiling, Itzal continued to advance forward with his familiar. If he had to choose some sort of cosmetic effect for himself, it would probably be some sort of music that played in the background around him. He'd love one that changed style, mood and theme based on his emotional state (for example, most cases would be soothing, gentle and somewhat quiet background music. If he was excited, the music would change to something exciting along with him. If he was in battle, something that fit combat, and so forth). However he doubted the system would allow something so complex as that, and even then he wasn't sure if that kind of thing would work. It might. He just wasn't sure. Though there was also the additional question of: What happened when two players with music aura cosmetics approached one another? Would both tracks be playing regardless? Would they dampen? Would one trump the other? Or would they both just shut off? It was definitely a question he was curious about, though it wasn't that important. He reached out and grabbed onto a grape bundle that was hanging off of a vine and added it to his inventory. He wondered if it was possible for players to grow their own plants... Itzal 0 Posted May 24, 2021 Author #13 Share Posted May 24, 2021 It probably was possible to grow one's own plants, given that the system was now allowing a greenhouse plot. From what he could tell though, players could only utilize it if they had the gathering proficiency, as the yard plot enhanced the gathering proficiency's attributes. However if he wanted to obtain the greenhouse slot, he'd need to upgrade his house to an estate level... He really didn't want to, but he supposed he could just stylize it as simply as possible. He didn't need anything fancy, but at the very least he could design it so that it would be more comfortable for himself. Maybe like a guild-hall style that he saw in a game one time. With an inner courtyard, stables, and so forth. Then again, he might need to double check and see if there were horses on this floor or not. With the transportation changes implemented into the game, traversing the floors was far easier than it used to be. Though Itzal preferred walking most of the time, he always wanted to try riding one of these horses to see what it was like. It might be time to do that now. As almost confirmation, an apple fell out of a tree as he passed, and he'd watched movies where horses loved apples, sooooo... ID# 194021 LD: 9 Total: 0 MAT, 1 DEM
Itzal 0 Posted May 24, 2021 Author #14 Share Posted May 24, 2021 Slipping the apple into his inventory, he continued to think about the schematics of his house should he upgrade it to the estate level. Most estates would have around fifteen or so rooms in sword art online, and often times those rooms would be oversized and huge to flaunt wealth. The Knights of the Blood Oath were the perfect example of this. Itzal hated their building because it was focused on how 'great' they were, when in reality they were hoarders and didn't really put much effort into being a role model. Macradon was once one of them, but he was the pure one of the bunch. Itzal was glad he could meet that man. Hirru... Itzal would describe as somewhat misguided, given that he turned traitor against the players for a hot minute and decided to side with the boss. Granted the system made the youngest look innocent, naive and pure, but once they'd done their research into what "the council" had done to gain their position, none of them were innocent. They were all guilty of something. And for crying out loud, it was an AI. A computer. He still couldn't believe that Hirru and Hestia couldn't piece that together... Reaching out to add another material to his collection he shook his head. He didn't want to dwell on the past too much... ID# 194022 LD: 9 Total: 0 MAT, 1 DEM
Itzal 0 Posted May 27, 2021 Author #15 Share Posted May 27, 2021 If anything Itzal would probably get a house that was similar to his own guild's hall. It was basically an oversized cabin. Far larger than a normal home, but not as massive as a mansion. Not to mention it wasn't nearly as flashy or intimidating, and instead had a cozy, homely, family feel to it. That was what most of their guild had agreed on, and it was definitely the kind of thing Itzal preferred. However, this time he thought of making the house somewhat fortified as well. He'd have to start sketches to get an idea- actually... He should probably find someone else who was good with drawing, and possibly architecture to draw up a map of the building for him. Itzal was terrible with drawing after all. He didn't really have any talent with it. Even still, it would be nice to upgrade his house and gain more of the beneficial rooms. Of course now that he was married with Zandra he'd make sure she got a solid input as well. He wasn't going to change his house without talking with her first after all. As he scanned the area though, he didn't find anymore materials. Thus he'd have to move onwards. He was getting closer to the quest giver, so he'd be training up his proficiency soon enough anyway. Itzal 0 Posted May 27, 2021 Author #16 Share Posted May 27, 2021 From what he could tell, the proficiency had an experience level just like most other proficiencies: blacksmithing, alchemy, artisan, tailoring, cooking, and performing. Therefore, while he didn't have to spend skill points to rank it up, or increase it's efficiency, or even regarding mods, players had to use it over and over again in order to reach it's fullest potential. Itzal believed that this would be the best method of handling such a skill or proficiency of this nature, especially since the highest ranking could find demonic materials, which were very beneficial. And he really didn't need to worry all that much given that he would be using the proficiency continuously. He wanted to stock up his store to the fullest, and to do that he needed as many materials as possible. So it was vital that- His thoughts were interrupted when an update popped up in front of him. Specifically, a patch update. This update allowed consumables to become demonic via crafting, and in addition to that one handed weapons with sword arts requiring the martial arts skill gained an additional point of base damage. It apparently would take a day for this to update, but it would mean that his sword arts would deal additional damage from this point forward. That was ultimately perfect for Itzal, and brought a smile to his face. ID# 194281 LD: 15 +1 MAT Total: 1 MAT, DEM
Itzal 0 Posted May 29, 2021 Author #17 Share Posted May 29, 2021 This mass update. Three point oh. It changed so much, and especially for the better. But this patch was only making it that much sweeter given that there didn't seem to be any downsides to it. At this point it was making his already increased strength greater. He had twenty seven as his base damage without surprise attack: assassin. This patch just increased it up to twenty eight. And when he was with Zandra, he'd have up to twenty nine. Multiply those by his strongest sword art, and he'd be dealing four hundred and forty three without mitigation, and four sixty four if he was with Zandra. If he used surprise attack, it would be five hundred and twelve to five twenty eight points of damage instead. Though of course, this was accounting for all forms of damage increases, such as potions and protein. Even still it was an impressive amount. Especially since it dwarfed his old damage output, which was hilariously pitiful with it's measly multiplier of eleven. Seriously? Who makes the staple weapon of most wars and conflicts, especially one on one duels, the weakest weapon in a game? For the life of him, he just couldn't see the logic. As he thought about this he spotted another small crystal buried in the brush and pulled it out. He wondered if someone dropped this or if it spawned... Weird place to spawn though. Itzal 0 Posted May 29, 2021 Author #18 Share Posted May 29, 2021 Even still, he couldn't just slack off now that his damage was increasing at a decent rate. There was still the problem with energy consumption after all. Between the high energy cost alongside those high damage sword arts (a downside to their buff), the equally high energy cost of both vanish and surprise attack, and the energy consumption of extra skills such as "forgotten king's authority", he needed to strategize his fights moreso now than ever. There wasn't any questioning it at this point. He did have a little bit of relief regarding his meditation skill as well as the improved passive energy regeneration though. Before the big update, energy regeneration was at most, one energy per round in combat, while it would usually take three 'rounds' outside of combat to fully recover. In the new update, players could regenerate up to one times the player's tier per in combat round. Meaning that instead of gaining one per round, he gained up to four. This was an incredible relief to him, as it cut the cost of his greatest sword art down from sixteen, to twelve per round. On top of that, his meditation skill at his tier could recover up to a total of sixteen points of energy, resulting in restoring his highest sword art's energy consumption. It had a three round cooldown, but it was leagues better than he'd be without it. Spotting another material, he added it to his collection before his thoughts returned to the topic of damage. Itzal 0 Posted May 29, 2021 Author #19 Share Posted May 29, 2021 There were other skills he could obtain that would relieve him of the stress of energy consumption further, however given the fact that most of his conflicts would be with a party and not by himself, especially since fighting to subdue player killers took far less energy than fighting to kill, and more so since in those parties he'd have players to restore his energy, he'd focus on other skills. When he did get to it, energist would be what he needed more. For now, battle healing was his biggest skill to max out. One percent of his health was only about eight or nine points, and that was terrible. He needed to max it at the five percent meter. After that, he could try and focus on getting either the charge skill, or the quick change skill. He would most likely go for quick change since it cost a lot less due to having no ranks, and it was incredibly useful anyways. By then he should have several good items, and so if up against an unknown boss or player, he could have various weapons with (hopefully) various unique enhancements on hand for him to switch to if he needed to change tactics. He could even change armors or trinkets if he really needed to. Charge would bolster his damage greatly, but it had a downside as well. Therefore, with it's large skill point consumption, energy consumption, and drop in accuracy, it would be taking a backseat to Quick Change. As he drew closer and closer back to the quest giver, he spotted no further materials and decided it would be a good time to call it quits for the day. Itzal 0 Posted May 29, 2021 Author #20 Share Posted May 29, 2021 As he walked into the NPC's territory, her eyes trailed from her work and noticed him. Her eyebrows raised in genuine surprise. "Back already? Have you given up?" Itzal supposed that statement made sense, given that not many players likely had maxed out the searching skill at this point. He should really get an LD item crafted for himself by now though. His old one was the purple trenchcoat Ariel had crafted him, and... Well he'd burn that to cinders. Partly in symbolism, but also partly because of the woman she had become. She seemed to be getting better now at least.. Somewhat. She wasn't nearly as hostile to other players as she once was, though she was still passive aggressive through words, and wasn't at all kind. At first glance that is. He pulled the shard from his inventory and her eyes shot wide open. "So you've found a Demonic Shard! You continue to impress me. I'll confess, you've learned all that I could teach you through this single quest. Trial by fire has always been my preferred style." Teach? She basically gave him the tool and made him teach himself... Poorly. Then again, he had been a master at gathering prior to this quest's existence. So he supposed he should give it some grace. Grinning now, the pretty blonde holds out her hand. "As payment for your troubles, why don't you keep the Shard? I will be needing the compass back, however. Next time you hunt for a Shard, you will have to earn it the hard way - with your own skill!" Itzal tossed her the compass which she nearly failed to catch. "Sounds absolutely fair to me. You have a great day miss!" As he walked away the congratulations announcement appeared, signalling the end of his quest. And right at the end he saw the gathering skill at 0 exp. He smiled. "Well then..." QUEST COMPLETED! Itzal receives: 539 col 1,396 EXP 3 MAT 1 Demonic Mat Gathering Skill Unlocked! 0 EXP
