Randal was out in the fields outside the Town of Beginnings looking for whatever it is that adventurers look for at the lower levels, maybe some herbs, maybe some wild fowl or cattle.

That particular day, it was sunnier than usual which was about as bright as the future could get when a surprise present dropped from an enemy, Randal mistook it for an event ticket at first but upon further inspection found that it was two pieces of paper than someone had placed together. After finicking with it for awhile, Randal finally managed to separate the two sheets to reveal a map and a journal page.

Looking at the journal first for some vitally missing information, Randal was shocked to discover that the person who made the journal was looking for a dragon’s nest. Randal had only encountered a dragon once when he was the Garden of Eden. He had almost been at his wits end during that encounter and decided that if he were going to tackle another one, he would have enlist the help of an old friend.

Before he could do so, a quest prompt appears and Randal swiftly accepts because why not face his fears and learn more about his enemy in the first place.

Pulling out his interface, he sent a short and sweet message. “ @NIGHT, I may have discovered a quest that you’ve done before, wanna come along and help me out?”

Out of the corner of his eye he spots someone called @Ariel - The Crowned Lion

<<DHA:I>>

A quest she'd done before? In this new system?

Probably less likely than she thought. But it never hurt to give the information a check. With all the ordering Bistro had sent to her contacts, NIGHT barely had a moment of reprieve away from the duties of serving the brokers of Aincrad. At least, in this way, she'd get to do so on her own terms.

to: Bistro

NIGHT: im busy
NIGHT: quest
NIGHT: dont look for me

Before the player could even send an affirmation in reply, the player changed her status immediately.

to: Randal

NIGHT: otw

[Tracking] made meetups a miracle. NIGHT might've needed to text another horrible, short message that made little sense to most otherwise. The woman found herself somewhere in the midst of the first -- and no, it didn't matter that while leaving town, she'd walked past her employer's store. It mattered more that out of all the other floors present in the iron castle, she still found herself in her home territory.

If something hadn't changed on this floor, the information should've been discovered by the brokers within the first week of the update. So... which quest exactly was this?

NIGHT left that up to Randal to answer, once he came into view and she gave him a holler and a wave, a hand tucked in her tracksuit and the other raised in a greeting.

"What is it?"

Another day, another finished errand for a rather obnoxious NPC that this one would've preferred to have disappeared with the new update. Well... not really, it depended on her mood which right now was pretty good. "See you next time!" she waved to the elder seamstress, her mentor with whom she kept regular contact and offered a excuse for Ariel to come and stroll through the first floor once in a while. As always, she had Kimba, her white furred lioness guide the way through the sea of people while the blonde herself was window shopping or anything else than consciously thinking of the way they were headed.

It turned out to be a mistake, blindly following her familiar, as she didn't notice that instead of casually walking through the market area of the noob town, they slowly drifted toward its out walls. Recently, after having followed certain rumors, the scout started sending messages to informants and researching on the go. She let out a exasperated sigh and pushed the HUD in front of her away, she frowned as they were walking in the middle of the fields outside the city walls. She didn't even notice when the small notice for leaving the safe area appeared.

"Where are you taking us?" she asked with a raised eyebrow towards her companion, who let out a yawn without turning towards her and instead bolted towards Night as she picked up a unusual smell. "Wha.." the blonde didn't get to voice her question as she focused on chasing after Kimba. From a distance she recognized one of the two figures: "Watch out!" she shouted as she saw her familiar target the other player, unknown to her as of this moment.

Despite what it looked like, Kimba would slow down at the end of her run and stand in front of Night slowly sniffing her then trying to get close to sniff her footwear, hand and then stand up in her rear paws and try to lean against her to sniff her tracksuit. It seemed like she would expect something.

This person, Ariel looked like she came out of a Battle Angel movie with her long katana by her side and long white cape. She walked with the majesty of a lion, oh wait, that was just the lioness that was running towards them. Randal was afraid that something was going to happen now that they were stopped outside of a Safe Area and while Night was strong, he did not know if there might be more enemies laying in wait for them to put their guard down.

Luckily, it appears that the cub was merely interested in sniffing at Nights Tracksuit, similar to how Randal’s real life cat would act when he got home from work, so Randal concluded that they knew each other.

Randal looked at Night with a pensive look and asked “Is that your friend? If she is, shall we ask her along on this quest? It appears to involve fighting some dragons? I’m not sure but we have to look for the location marked on this map too.” Randal saw that Ariel was still a little away so he looked up and down his map interface to see if he could glimpse any hints from it.

Things that NIGHT expected to have happened today:

  1. [o] Met Randal
  2. [o] Gone on a Quest
  3. [o] Reported back to Bistro
  4. [o] Crafted Trinkets
  5. [x] Get hassled by a lion.

But point five was true. She hadn't seemed to notice when the lioness was investigating her articles, hadn't even caught wind that another party had shown up recently with her eyes set on heading towards her companion and the howling of strong winds in the vicinity. But the moment that coat of white was in her periphery, she froze.

She panicked when the cat nearly set her paws on the player. A lion, down on the first floor? Half of her wanted to squeal in excitement; the more realistic and sensible part of her was panicking instead. Danger for the newbies. This wouldn't do.

It just so happened that today, NIGHT too had been carrying her familiar; Nyanko's sleepy head peeped out of the tracksuit when he'd picked up the familiar scent. He squeaked, as if to explain to his owner one thing or another, but without a translator his words fell on deaf ears too busy processing the lioness in front of her.

For some reason, it had taken the player too long to have noticed the cursor above Kimba's head. Then she realized it was most likely...

The woman from that bee quest.

She wasn't amazing at memory, but the other player's face seemed to match the image she'd stored in her mind when NIGHT turned around and caught sight of her. A small grunt of acknowledgement to the woman -- by that point, Nyanko would probably have been stolen by the lioness -- and her attention would then fall back upon Randal, realizing the man was asking questions now.

Friend?

"An acquaintance, more like." It was the best way she could describe their relationship; NIGHT knew she was present at the raid against Shadow, but held no lingering ties to the other. "Uh..."

A pause. It was with an awkward, curious look that she shot the front liner's way, nodding towards Randal's position. "... You wanna tag along...? —Yeah...?"

Another offbeat pause.

A passing crow cawed loudly, mocking the sudden tension.

"... Sorry. I... forgot your name."

"Sorry for this one, she has a habit of doing whatever she wants." said the blonde as she caught up with her familiar and the players. She'd let out a sigh after catching her breath and eye her familiar in a futile attempt to make the lioness heel. Instead she followed her gaze and smiled as she saw the small kitty poking from it's master's tracksuit. Her girlish grin getting only wider when she heard him 'speak': "Haaaaa, kawaii neko-chan!" She began extending her hand but stopped midway as she realized what she was doing, visibly restraining herself from the urge to pet the adorable thing as a cold shiver went down her spine.

Instead she faked a cough and took a step back, eyeing both of the players. "Tag along?" she parroted, a bit amused by the slight awkwardness the girl displayed. "Sure!" replied the blonde with a smile, recognizing the familiar initially then its master but not really managing to link a name to the player's face despite having indirectly meet a couple of times in the more recent past involving the raid. "Ariel desu. Yoroshiku onegaishimasu!" she said almost involuntarily, adding her speech to the already visible list of things hinting to her background.

"So what are you planning to do?" she asked, noticing the map in Randal's hands. In the meanwhile, unlike Ariel, Kimba had recognized the little kitten which she approved of being part of her pack a long time ago when the two familiars first met. A time that Ariel seem to have forgotten. Kimba raised her paw and chuffed, relaying how happy she was to see him again and beckoning him to come and play.

Randal smiled at the two ladies in front of him, there were many things to be appreciative of right now. Randal himself was a big fan of cats and here was both a lion cub and a cat.

Night and I were just about to head towards that mountain over there.” That is the topography that the map is hinting us to go towards, the general shape and slope steepness reflected the directions that were prominent on the map. “I’ve actually seen the location that is portrayed on the map that dropped and can say for sure that we can follow my lead.” Randal and his two companions started of their journey by finding a cart that would bring them to closer to the location.

While they travelled Randal sought to find out more about how Night was doing, other than the quest they did together some many days ago. “So how have you been, have not spoken to you in awhile to be honest, take a look at this new familiar I found just the other day.” Randal brought out a piece of rock. It glowed in pulses, fading and burning. All of a sudden it began to slide higher up Randal’s body to get away from the other familiar that were playing in the middle of the cart.

So how did you managed to find your way back to the first floor Ariel?” Randal asked at another instance.

NIGHT shrunk into her tracksuit at the other woman's outburst; it didn't help that the player was so short in comparison to her companions, either. She tried to memorize the name of the familiar's owner, repeating it in her head, as she gave Ariel a nod. "NIGHT," she added, gesturing to herself. "Pleased to make your acquaintance."

When Randal pointed towards their destination, the woman scoured the mountain for a route of their ascent. He'd suggested a cart be their first method of travel (on the first? For some reason, that thought was strange to NIGHT) and so they found one at the nearest outpost a few meters ahead. At Nyanko's scrabbling out of her pockets, the player had lifted the kitten out and set him onto Kimba's back, though it was the familiar's decision to have hopped off the lioness and paced alongside the larger cat later on, as though they were meant to be equals.

Then Randal showed them all a pet rock.

NIGHT didn't quite know what to say. At least it glowed? But then it started to float and move and -- never mind. She guessed it was special in someway and counted for an animate object. A nod was all she returned aside from interest in her eyes at its shifting.

"Been alright," she mentioned, watching Nyanko and Kimba tussle about. The woman wasn't much for small talk, and took a pause to recall her recent happenings in Aincrad. "I guess... I was at the twenty-fifth floor boss some time ago." Her gaze went towards Ariel, recalling something amidst the chaos of the fight. "You were there too, weren't you?"

The player blinked. It hadn't occurred for her to have run into another member of the raid so soon that wasn't one of her closer allies. So--

"Right after the raid concluded," she started, almost tensing up. "There was a tide that pulled us all under, wasn't there? Did you happen to wake up in your bed after that, too? I... was told that wasn't the sort of thing that was supposed to happen."

Her gaze followed towards the mountain, trying to see if maybe she remembered something that would help with their quest. Nothing clicked so far so she leaned back and enjoyed the journey in the meanwhile. She slightly tilted her head, thinking 'Iwa?'' when she saw the new familiar. She'd meet a bunch of others, in different shapes and sizes but she couldn't say she'd ever heard of a rock pet. "I guess there are all kinds of'em." she muttered more to herself than wanting to make a point. She still found it interesting and fixed her gaze at it until Night mentioned the raid.

There was a slight frown on her expression as she closed her eyes and leaned forwards a bit. She nodded as she vividly remembered the events that passed in the last moments of the fight and when she woke up. "I honestly thought that Shadow had another ace up his sleeve... those black tides, his last moments before that were... anticlimactic. When I woke up back in my bed on the 22nd floor, I couldn't believe it, though it was some sort of genjustu... another illusion like when his minions first appeared. Only after I meet with the other three residents of my school and we shared our stories, did we have a clearer picture of what happened." she let out a sigh and opened her eyes, looking in the distance. "It looked like it was almost as bad out here as it was in the boss room." she muttered as she readjusted the position of her katana to lean on her left shoulder, as she sat on the cart. She let out a small sigh of relief, having put all that behind in the past.

Randal and his company chatted about the things that they did in recent memory, the high-level players discussed front-line raids while Randal paid close attention, hoping to glean some sort of insight, and finding it incredibly interesting all at the same time.

Eventually the cart reached the mountain and the party alighted from the cart. They moved through the jungle, frequently checking the map for directions and notable landmarks. With the prowess of Night and Ariel combined, very few troublesome opponents appeared, more so since Randal himself could dispatch any enemies that were unlucky enough to cross paths with them.

As they went along, signs of monstrous activity and strength could be spotted along the trees where long claw marks were seen marking the territory. No enemies spawned in the area or stalked them as they entered, drawing closer to the location marked on the map.

Soon, they reach a dead end, a large rocky outcrop near the forest did not show signs of any dragon living there until they spotted an entrance into the outcrop.

Was this thing even real? Or something to be believed in? NIGHT had those thoughts as she wandered, following Randal's lead. Though their progress to their supposed destination was steady, she couldn't help but notice that there hadn't been any signatures of a fearsome creature living within these parts. No claw marks, scratches, markings of any sort. Even a bandit would make a show of the place they were living in. The land were was barren in comparison.

So it was with two arms slung across the back of her head that she wandered by accident, as the first personnel on their team, into the dragon's cave. It was golden, shining; as though it was a treasure itself, and from NIGHT's brazen entrance kicking up rubble and stones, the creature's eyes flickered open with a fury unparalleled.

NIGHT nearly stumbled backwards into one of her party members at its sudden roar.

Never mind. She shouldn't have doubted its existence in the first place.

It was on instinct that her blade was called to her side; a weapon devoid of details, whitened out by a light that remained bright even in their cavern. And though she'd taken up posture to prepare for her enemy's attack, the enemy hadn't moved.

"..."

Her eyes went to her companions. Surely one of them were interested in taking the first step, if not her.

As she heard the roar, Ariel's hand instinctively went to her katana. ' Ryu-ka? ' she thought with a smirk as she took a better look at Night's 'discovery'. "Is this part of your quest?" she asked as she turned towards Randal. In the same time she freed her (un)holy blade and let it's dark flames seep into the ground by her side. She would lie if she said she wasn't nervous, fortunately it would was of the good kind as this would be the first time she would go all out against a foe wielding a katana. She'll see right here and now if she still had it in her after so many years, this wasn't training anymore.

" Who goes there? " came an unexpected voice. Despite the inquiry clearly coming from in front of them, Ariel's first action was to look behind. " Did that wretched Carsar sent you to finish me off? How fitting, that cowards couldn't do it himself. Very well, come! But don't think for a second that I will go down without a fight! My only regret is that I can't hold my babies once more time." the voice continued to rage which gradually turned into sorrow towards the end. As to enforce her words, the dragon took a step forward and assumed a defensive stance with her wings.

Contrary to the blonde's initial though, the dragon was indeed the one that spoke to them. "finish.. off? babies?" the blonde muttered. Her initial excitement for combat plummeted and now she turned towards @Randal and asked with a somehow saddened expression. " Is that what we're here for? " she tightened the grip on her katana. She had noticed the scars on her wings and  the other laceration throughout the dragon's body... it felt wrong... one could see on the blonde's expression that she didn't approve of finishing the dragon off in her state.

The dragon is renowned to be a strong beast of monstrous proportions but when two dragons fight and covet what rightfully belongs to each other, one of the two are surely to come out weaker than the others.

The scene before Randal spoke of itself, both Night and Ariel clearly looking to him for direction. “Yes, this is part of the quest, it has to be.” Randal said towards Ariel. Night looked on silently ready for battle but something about the situation did not call for a fight, the dragon was ready for it, but it was not in fighting condition.

The surrounding too directed Randal to lower his guard and kneel towards the dragon, hoping to extend a warmer exchange compared to the frigid atmosphere that lay behind her. “What happened here? Tell us and perhaps we can help you?” Randal asked pointing at the nest that was in disarray and in the general direction of the other dragon’s body.

The darkness and fury in the eyes of the dragon faded as though a ray of hope was shining out from her. “I have been attacked, my children and been stolen from me, my mate has been killed.” A mournful voice cried out from her.

I am Fuzziel, and I beseech you travellers to find it in your heart, save my babies, I do not long for much in this world except to know they are safe. Please help me by saving them. Time is of the essence and I fear that it will be too late for me to gather the strength to save them.” She growled, lowering her head.

We will help you, just tell us what to do.” Randal said looking at Night and Ariel for their approval, they were here to accompany him on this quest and so left it to him to control and scenario.

Fuzziel let out a soft purr of delight upon hearing Randal’s words and began to draw a set of directions that located the place where the assailant resided. Carsar was the name of the dragon that did this, he was jealous, and might take out his anger on the baby hatchlings, so time was not on their side and they had to hurry.

Randal turned to both Night and Ariel to ask if there was anything they could do to help her before they left.

Talking dragons. When will Cardinal ever fail to surprise her?

When the draco fell from aggression, so too did NIGHT sheathe her blade, letting it disperse to the ether. Randal handled negotiations; thank god, she wasn't exactly sure how to speak to a mythical creature, much less one that could speak. Her tentative approach was both out of curiosity and concern -- the wounds on her body were unusual, because strikes inflicted as such would've been marked out in light, woven with red hatching, and only remained temporarily on any entity's body.

She'd seen it with her own two eyes.

Was Fuzziel bleeding? The player squinted, almost wanting to outline the scrapes upon scales. Its flesh seemed raw, still, and when the dragon caught NIGHT staring, the woman nearly recoiled. No, no she wasn't staring--

"Sorry," she quickly added, rifling through her inventory, "I might have something for this..."

...

NIGHT pulled out a bottle of coffee.

Could dragons drink coffee?

Maybe she should've visited a proper alchemist that played true to Aincrad's setting; why on earth did Bistro ever think that coffee was a proper substitute for something that restored health? But as she pried the drink open and offered it to Fuzziel, the creature only sniffed at it, curious. It downed the liquid, eager claws clutching the side of the glass, nearly digging into NIGHT's own fingers. She caught a faint light upon the wounds and knew it to be Cardinal's work. Though they hadn't healed completely, the scales there did look better since wear.

"Thank you, travelers," Fuzziel said when she was done with the drink. NIGHT shattered the bottle in her hands out of instinct; it was ready to fade away from use otherwise.

The dragon then curled up upon its nest, attempting to rest; its final sigh of resignation to leave her kindred's fate in another's hands had registered something else in her interface. NIGHT glanced around, trying to catch the new buff that had just been applied to them.

+1 EVA.

Uh, neat, she guessed.

NIGHT turned back to the party, arms folded. "Are we done here?" Her question was mostly directed to Ariel, just in case the woman was interested in asking Fuzziel more questions; otherwise, she'd turn to look at Randal, master of conversations and intel. "Well, where to next?"

The blonde would listen to the rest of the discussion with the now recovering dragon. It seemed like this was indeed the quest location, a conclusion she came to after noticing the ease with which the mother dragon trusted them with the task of recovering her offsprings. Well already talking to a mythical being like her was pretty off of Ariel's 'normality occurrences scale', which have been warped throughout the years spent in this 'game'.

A quick nod of approval towards Randal, who offered their help. Details on what they had to do, were provided in relative depths so that the blonde herself had no extra questions on that regard. She would nod once more at NIGHT's question as she sheathed and adjusted her weapon in its scabbard. This quest... she felt like she did it before, it bugged her enough to pull out her completed quests windows and check there. To her surprise it didn't register as 'completed', but as 'current'. She dismissed the window with a wave decided to focus on their next move instead.

"I took down some dragon-type mobs and bosses before. So maybe the «Tracking» skill works for this 'Carsar'. " she muttered, as her silver eyes intensified in color. As they started moving towards the new destination, she 'scanned' their surroundings and the air above but nothing alerted her of any dragon presence so far. With a light head shake and a shrug, she denied having gained any results from the skill.
