[SP-F01] <<The Second Lesson>>

Recommended Posts

After the experience with Zackariah the alchemist and completing the 'first lesson' quest. Katakuri understood that he might have a handful of quests in front of him because he accepted to help Dorian the mayor. Walking along the streets, the young man thought about a few things;
I wonder if I will have to gather materials for this Lyle...
Is this going to be a similar task to helping Zackariah? Am I going to have to learn how to make something myself?
I'm assuming so, I feel like these 'lesson' quests are an introduction to this game... if you even want to call it that anymore...

Once reaching the front door of the blacksmith shop that Lyle owns, Katakuri opened the door without caution. Allowing himself to come into the shop and hear the clanking of metal upon metal. The earthy smell of coals burning -- Was that smell in his head? That took him off guard for a moment thinking about the smell of coals and if the smell upon entrance was his brain tricking him.

After adjusting his thoughts about smell and a few clangs later, Katakuri smiled when he heard the voice speak to him, "Welcome to my shop." Standing there, he didn't know if he should get closer to the man standing behind the anvil, rhythmically striking a heavy hammer against the product he was producing.
So far the men that guide you through the introductions of the game have beards or facial hair of some sort while being quite old. It was somewhat of a charming aspect if you asked Katakuri himself. Before anything could really come out of his mouth, he was probably standing there too long or smiling like an idiot. Lyle began to regard with annoyance that bordered disgust, "I'm busy." he states tersely.

Katakuri raised a brow out of reaction, yet he didn't show much more than that. Shrugging his shoulders, he would keep in mind that some of the NPCs were a little more grumpy than others. Lyle seemed to be the opposite of Zackariah, age can age you differently they say... he thought before approaching the older man.

"I -" Barely getting anything out of his mouth, Lyle was waving him off to go away. This caused Kata's brows to sharpen when it came to the thought of this old man. Maybe he was picking up the same energy of the old guy, but he needed to figure out who had Dorian's money.
Huffing out, Katakuri began to explain again before getting a hand raised to him, sighing, his facial expression turned sour.

"I don't do anything without payment. Go kill a couple of those pesky boarlets for me, and bring back their tusks. They're pretty weak, so even you shouldn't have any trouble. Do that, then I'll hear you out."

Katakuri seemed to be annoyed at the way that Lyle functioned, but he decided to roll his eyes. He was dealing with NPCs, he needed to remember that they are NPCs and not actually another person stuck in the game. Shaking his head while looking down at himself, he thought, What does he even mean by that? Is it because I am skinny?

The young male was quite the lean piece of muscle, he worked out, but he was not close to any kind of body-building material. He was healthy enough; a lot of people would probably consider him too thin for his height. Skin and bones is what his father always jokes about, skin and bones...

With Lyle not cooperating or wanting to listen to anything, Katakuri decided he should get to work. Do what he did with Zackariah and help out even though Lyle was appearing to be a pain to talk to, "I'll be back with what you want..." After confirming with a thicker Irish accent that he would take the job that the old grump of a blacksmith offered, he found his way out of the shop.

After leaving the blacksmith's shop, he found himself going outside of the city once again. Going on an adventure that the wild goose chase was sending him on, "Hopefully boarlets are not that hard to deal with..." huffing to the thought, "...can I die from those?" Whispering to himself, saying those words out loud gave him a piercing ache in his chest. Trying his best to shrug the feeling of dread off, Katakuri found himself outside the walls and at the wilds of Tolbana.

Pressing into his notifications real quick, he wanted to check on the tasks he had to do, and he quickly located the task.

Kill three boarlets and return to Lyle.

"That shouldn't be too hard... how difficult are boarlets?" Was he letting anxiety reach him at this point in time? Katakuri didn't even recognize the unsure tone in his voice. Making his way into the wilds of Tolbana, he equipped his vanity starter sword, a two-handed weapon and going right up to the first boarlet he seen, getting in a good position, and swinging the sword at it.

The first swing of the game proved to be weak and lazily supplied, a missing blow, and the young man stood there while watching the boarlet scurry off. Glancing down to the sword that he missed seconds ago and letting out a sigh, "I'll get better, hopefully..." Mumbling to himself while closing his eyes, "...I just need to focus and practice, a lot of practice."

As the boarlet got to a safe distance away from Katakuri, they seemed to meet eye-to-eye before the reddish-haired man took a stance while grabbing at his sword; ready to fight the pig.
Before he knew it the boarlet was charging right at him, full speed, and Katakuri didn't really know what to do in this situation. He understood that the fighting in this game had turns, but he was curious if he could try to block somehow and how much damage this creature would deal to him.

A feeling of dread ran through his body when he thought about it, What if this thing kills me? I'll look pathetic...

The boarlet began to charge and get closer within seconds, hanging onto the vanity starter-sword, Katakuri furrowed his brows and clenched his teeth before impact. A reaction of tensing up, because he was waiting for the impact of the creatures attack, Will this hurt?, He didn't know the answer to his own question but he would figure out within seconds if the boarlet was successful.
This game seemed to play tricks with what you could feel, smell, and actually do. It was a little frustrating sometimes, but he would get use to it; he was sure of it.

Taking a step back before the boarlet slammed right into his gut, Katakuri fell to his knees upon this and he definitely could say that he felt pain. His gut gurgled and seemed to spasm from the pounds of force on his stomach. Glancing up the boarlet was already away from him and seemed to be snorting in pride, kicking up the ground towards him, and prancing around.

After adjusting to the pain and getting to his feet, it took him a few minutes, but he did it. Grabbing his sword that he dropped and glaring at the boarlet, he went after the boarlet right away, "I cannot believe a pig is mocking me... I'm going to kill you for the quest and my own pleasure." Instantly getting into attack mode and running up towards the pig.

Katakuri made sure that he had a good grip on his weapon before charging and swinging at the boarlet in front of him. Upon the swing, he could feel a heaviness he hadn't felt before in the game, and it caught onto his arms. His vanity-starter, two-handed sword went right into the boarlet. The attack let red pixels form into the air, showing that he did some damage to the creature -- That must be the graphics for blood in this game.

Stopping in his tracks for a second and with his free hand, he held it out as a child would to catch bubbles. Trying to see if he could touch the red pixels, they went right through his hand. While distracted by the graphics of the game, the boarlet decided it was going to run off into the field away from the tank. Noticing that the boarlet was taking off, "I got it.", he smiled to himself since he actually did damage towards the creature. Walking towards the boarlet that went into the field, he had a great view of where it was running off to.

"These starter quests are pretty fun, but I cannot wait to get out of them." Talking to himself was somewhat soothing since he grew up with parents, his mom and dad who both did it. Being an only child for several years caused him to have this quirk as well.

  • 2 weeks later...

Katakuri noticed that the boarlet was beginning to slow down from the damage it has taken from him, and he followed it at a decent pace. When the boarlet stopped, so did Katakuri. The creature seemed ready to attack and was going to give him everything he got, kicking up random parts of the ground, dirt, grass, and whatever it would fling up towards the sky.

This situation, fighting, was causing his heartbeat to increase and giving him a rush.

The boarlet began to charge towards the player with angry grunts and heavy hooves which stomped at the ground. Taking a few steps back, Katakuri was thinking about the same thought he had earlier, Was there anyway to block creatures? There had to be some kind of skill sets that would help you take less damage or something. All these thoughts were putting a noted pin in his mind for later; he was definitely going to research and ask around.

Two more boarlets to go after this one and he would be able to head back to Lyle the blacksmith with the needed materials. A grumpy old blacksmith, but he was willing to get the starter quests out of the way to move on. Yet, these boarlets were proving Katakuri that they might take all day to deal with.

Noticing that the boarlet began to slow down, so did Kata before he stopped in his tracks. When he stopped the boarlet seemed to turn around and face him. Grunting and starting to kick up random parts of the ground, dirt, grass, and more. Katakuri understood that the boarlet was going to attack him; it was the boarlet’s turn after all.

This boarlet began to charge towards the player without a second thought, angry grunts, and hooves stomping at the ground underneath. Taking a few steps back, Katakuri gripped onto his vanity sword and held his ground. Knowing that he couldn’t run away from the boarlet or block it even, could he? He didn’t think that he could, so he stood there waiting for the blow from the beast.

He had to deal with two more of these beasts before he could go back to Lyle the Blacksmith and he already lost track of the first boarlet he was chasing. These things might prove to take all day.
