Nari-Lanreth 0 Posted March 21, 2022 Author #161 Share Posted March 21, 2022 (edited) The words were exactly what Nari needed to hear, and as soon as they were out of NIGHT’s mouth, she had begun to rush across the sand towards the creature, bringing her shield up before her as she went. She knew that this was likely taking a risk – but, what was life without some small risks? As she came closer to the creature, she slowed her forward rush, willing to take caution over stupidity. Pausing only long enough to steady herself, she brought her spear in line along the top of her shield, listening for the sound of NIGHT behind her before making her move against the giant sea serpent. She could see the larger than usual health bar, and felt a moment of concern as she realised this was likely more in line with a field boss, than anything else. She whispered to herself as she thrust her spear forward, letting the growing concern wipe itself away. “Well, we’re here now…” Spoiler Nari-Lanreth | Lv. 32 | P. 10 | HP: 740/740 | EN: 86/86 | DMG: 8 | MIT: 147 | ACC: 3 (1+2) | REC: 8 | EVA: 0 | LD: 0 | STH: -5 | THORNS [72 DMG] | FROSTBITE [30 DMG] | Battle Healing [+15] NIGHT | HP: 1104/1104 | EN: 84/134 | DMG: 28 | ACC: 5 | EVA: 3 | LM: 2 | BLI: 32/-20MIT | BLD: 48 | FRB: 40/-1ACC | STC: 40/24 | TXV: 32 | LD: 9 | BH: 60 | Stealth Rating: 6 Giant Sea Serpent | HP: 2000/2000 | DMG: 280 | MIT: 175 | ACC: 2 | EVA: 3 | PARA Fearless | This creature is immune to debuff songs Water Serpent | Once the Giant Seahorse's health has been reduced to 25% or lower, it will pull back into the water, increasing it's evasion by 2, but decreasing it's damage by 80. NIGHT 0 Posted March 21, 2022 #162 Share Posted March 21, 2022 the moment she spotted nari missing, night thought something off about their target. and she dove in, crystal and all, yet the enemy didn't seem at all bothered by its effects. a great serpent, it could've almost been mistaken for a wvyern, given any other fantasy game -- for a creature so big, she should've been able to strike it with only little problems. unfortunately, that also wasn't the case. night thought she'd struck true, white upon scaled belly, close enough to have scented the sea brine it collected in between its ridges. but the effects of light momentum kicked into her status bar, and so too was the flounder of the snake powerful. with one shake, it sent the pair flying. nari was likely more stalwart than her companion. and night skid across sand in comparison, almost bouncing herself towards the vicinity of other nearby enemies. what was up with this mark? better that they had the chance to eradicate it now, then, before some other unfortunate parties found themselves engaged with such a foe. Nari-Lanreth 0 Posted March 21, 2022 Author #163 Share Posted March 21, 2022 (edited) Her strike missed. Even with NIGHT’s boosts, her first hit had…well, not hit. Nari gritted her teeth as the serpent lashed out in retaliation, watching her own health bar dip, then regenerate slightly. It wasn’t what she had wanted to see happen, but she was glad that NIGHT hadn’t taken any damage. She hadn’t dealt any, either, and although that would normally make Nari feel better, this time it concerned her. Setting her feet, she pulled her shield up in front of her again, balancing the spear along the top left edge before eyeing the creature – looking for the sign of weakness that all of these things had. “NIGHT…I’m going to focus on drawing its attention and lowering its mitigation, at least slightly. But…this thing seems more dangerous than anything else on the field. Be careful, okay?” She didn’t look back with her words, but she whispered to herself as she thrust the spear forward. “I will too, just…make sure we go home together today…” Spoiler [0] Nari-Lanreth | Lv. 32 | P. 10 | HP: 622/740 [BH+15] | EN: 86/86 | DMG: 8 | MIT: 147 | ACC: 3 (1+2) | REC: 8 | EVA: 0 | LD: 0 | STH: -5 | THORNS [72 DMG] | FROSTBITE [30 DMG] | Battle Healing [+15] [0] NIGHT | HP: 1104/1104 | EN: 86/134 | DMG: 28 | ACC: 5 | EVA: 3 | LM: 2 | BLI: 32/-20MIT | BLD: 48 | FRB: 40/-1ACC | STC: 40/24 | TXV: 32 | LD: 9 | BH: 60 | Stealth Rating: 6 Giant Sea Serpent | HP: 1928/2000 | DMG: 280 | MIT: 175 | ACC: 2 | EVA: 3 | PARA Fearless | This creature is immune to debuff songs Water Serpent | Once the Giant Seahorse's health has been reduced to 25% or lower, it will pull back into the water, increasing it's evasion by 2, but decreasing it's damage by 80. NIGHT 0 Posted March 21, 2022 #164 Share Posted March 21, 2022 and it was almost like they'd adjusted to their foe's difficulty in sync. for once, night drew her attention to the sound of which she thought most important in combat -- for once, she bid herself listen to that order above all else. bouncing back upon her feet, she charged back into the fray in haste. and as she swung, her executioner had decided it, too, would awaken from its slumber to rend the enemy apart through blackest bile, as though covering for its owner as she paid the fight less attention. because-- "Be careful, okay?” -- when asked like that, of course, she had to be. for nari's sake. and the art executed had stopped the serpent in place long enough for the woman to send her sights towards the tank, eyes vigilant for when the stun would wear off. "then likewise. i trust you know when you decide a withdrawl if need be." grip firm on her blade, night pulled herself back from the creature's immediate vicinity, ready to prepare for another chance at evasion. Nari-Lanreth 0 Posted March 21, 2022 Author #165 Share Posted March 21, 2022 (edited) Between her own strike, and NIGHT’s follow up strike, the creature was looking slightly less impressive. Perhaps she had considered it too worthy of a foe, perhaps it wouldn’t give such a challenge…and then it started moving again, and Nari’s focus was back on the conflict before her. She heard the call of NIGHT, nodding in response before realising the girl likely couldn’t see her – her own focus hopefully on the creature. But she was unable to get out a verbal response before she needed to start moving again, dodging to her left, then right in an attempt to stay out of the creature’s retaliatory strikes. Lining up her spear, she eyed the creature’s movements, watching as it swayed in an everlasting dance with her. The movements mimicking her own, as if in a delay. She swerved, in and out, dancing alongside the giant serpent in a deadly dance, watching for her opening. As soon as she saw it, she thrust the spear forwards, watching as the violet trail shimmered on the air, barely visible. NIGHT 0 Posted March 21, 2022 #166 Share Posted March 21, 2022 oh, the serpent was definitely dancing, alright. and contrary to popular belief, night wasn't as dexterous with her footwork as the game made her out to be. the moment the enemy struck out towards nari, night made her move, both falling just short of landing upon their actual target -- the player reliant on overestimation while cardinal's pawn found the the inverse of its own movements. nothing but air. and the woman bounced backwards, trying to keep her cool. in the same vein she'd told her companion about consumables, night was perhaps considering if her own was starting to run out. at the very least, with light momentum sticking true to the woman's accuracy, she wasn't going to continue her mishaps for long. in the heat of the moment, she drew a careful breath, eyes closed, before releasing her frustration in an exhale. to remember to remain calm in the moment was difficult, but she had to do it. willed herself to, for both their safety. Nari-Lanreth 0 Posted March 21, 2022 Author #167 Share Posted March 21, 2022 (edited) Nari watched as NIGHT faltered on another attack, and she began to wonder if there was something odd about this creature. She leapt backwards slightly as it lashed out at her again, clearly agitated at her the most. ‘Perfect. Let’s give this skill a try, then. Maybe it’ll prove more successful than I’ve been thus far.’ She hoisted her shield, bringing her spear in line with the top edge, but letting her feet sink into the ground, holding her place and keeping an eye out for the next strike towards her. She knew that even if NIGHT managed to land an attack at this point, she’d drawn the majority of the creature’s hatred. Meaning that she would be the likely target of its next attack, hopefully. “Come on then, you giant ugly snake thing. I’m waiting for you.” She hissed the words between clenched teeth as her eyes remained focused on it, waiting for the sign that it was preparing to strike out at her. NIGHT 0 Posted March 21, 2022 #168 Share Posted March 21, 2022 now she couldn't tell if the serpent was a worse striker than she was. this time, her retaliation had been faster than the snake's movements, night sweeping in for a cut at its tail as she rounded the foe slithering, writhing. a small combustion, and their enemy caught fire -- though how a water-aligned target wasn't resistant to such effects wasn't a thought she'd wanted to fancy in the moment. as the player scurried away, she set her blade to her shoulder, feet hitting gold as she rounded the boss. would it strike true against the tank? the party certainly thought so. the serpent, however, didn't. what a letdown. but better for the survivability of players. had night a better opportunity for a second sweep, she would've taken it, watching the gauge of their opponent hang neatly between life and death. it almost irked her, how long it was taking to dismantle a random mark out on the field. had night the chance, she would've liked to have some words with cardinal. Nari-Lanreth 0 Posted March 21, 2022 Author #169 Share Posted March 21, 2022 (edited) NIGHT rushed in, swinging into the serpent and landing yet another strike, causing the health to deteriorate further. Nari held her ground, watching as the serpent rose up, likely readying itself to strike against the shield she held before her…and then slammed into the ground next to her, missing entirely. She blinked, looking at the spot on the ground, then turning her gaze to NIGHT. “Did you…blind it or something?” The words were out before she even realised she had spoken, and in her confusion she felt the shield slip out of place slightly. Jumping back into position, she pulled the shield up, readying the parry skill once more, and watching for the serpent to round on her again. She hoped that she’d get the chance to land a strike, but if NIGHT kept hitting it, there was concern that Nari’s work at keeping it focused on her would be undone – something she’d have to deal with later, if it came to that. NIGHT 0 Posted March 21, 2022 #170 Share Posted March 21, 2022 night wished she had that ability to do so. in the midst of giving her all, so too did nari's query catch her by surprise. and she slipped, tumbling over the one spot she swore was going to remain stable -- at least, until she managed to land a strike in. and the taste of sand, night falling in face-first was less than amicable. the groan, shaky out of frustration was muted in that padding, before the player pulled herself away from the coast. she fumed. "blinded by your love, maybe." anger made way to a jest. how else was the woman supposed to cope? and she hadn't meant it literally, neither did she will the urge to follow up on it. hand pulled to a fist after wiping the dirt off her face, night rushed over to the serpent's side as it snaked away to lash out at nari. it looked as though her own accuracy and the serpent's were equally matched. she broiled in that realization, too, returning in annoyance, though not with fault. Nari-Lanreth 0 Posted March 21, 2022 Author #171 Share Posted March 21, 2022 “NIGHT! It worked! Did you see…why are you laying on the ground?” Her excitement was curtailed by the sight of her companion face first in the dirt. Her side step and reaction had been nearly perfect as the creature lashed out at her – her health bar depleting slightly, but the counter and her thorns activating to bite back at the creature. “Are you okay?” Her concern was short lived though, as the creature reared back and slammed down into the ground again, missing Nari by a hair’s breadth. Stepping backwards, she decided that it was time to go on the offensive again. Giving herself some space, she stepped back a few steps, keeping an eye on both the serpent, as well as NIGHT. She wasn’t sure what was going on with her companion, but she knew that so long as she kept drawing the serpent’s attention, everything would be fine. “I…hope.” A half step forward and she thrust the spear, hoping to once again catch the creature and bring this fight closer to a closure. NIGHT 0 Posted March 21, 2022 #172 Share Posted March 21, 2022 "okay enough." the faux field boss was really giving her a run for her money. so much for being a damage dealer when she spent half of her efforts barely even capable of making her blade connect with the wriggling thing. and night came crashing hard against the serpent's scales, that thrust with the weight of her entire figure into the blow, frustration seething through her teeth as her cut forced it to stop where it stood. the only way she wanted to withdraw her blade now was in the manner where it would hurt the creature more, just so its health would sink lower, lower into the orange. "that's more like it," she pushed through her teeth, her weapon torn out vertically where her pierce had dove in to the snake's side. and there was the urge to stick close to the enemy despite the danger, for all night could know to do was burn, burn as the enemy once did. in a breath, she added, hushed, "you're cutting into very important time here, you know that?" she'd liked to think the shriek from the creature as the stun wore off was in reply to her. for her. Nari-Lanreth 0 Posted March 21, 2022 Author #173 Share Posted March 21, 2022 Nari watched as NIGHT once again made her connection with the sea serpent, cutting away at its health once more. She watched as the stunned effect wore off, and the creature began screwing – either in response to the damage, or at finally being free from its hold. Either way, she took it as a sign that they were besting it. With a single step forwards, she found herself once more in striking range of the creature. Letting her feet slide across the ground, she kept her eyes on it, bringing her spear up to thrust forwards, knowing that she was slowly losing the attention of their target. ‘Not if I can help it!’ She could see the sea serpent turning its attention to her once more as she came closer, as if it knew she was about to strike out at her. She ground her teeth as she raised her spear, determined to land her strike true, and to continue to aggravate it just enough that NIGHT could continue to hammer away at it without drawing danger to herself. NIGHT 0 Posted March 21, 2022 #174 Share Posted March 21, 2022 another swing, with all of the heft she could manage from it. close-ranged -- her blade's edge near the guard had finally seen use, perhaps the first time since the sword's debut in her hands. and night growled, in the way that ferocity should've been perfect for the woman, but instead what she got in return was the serpent lunging backwards, as though retreating -- -- and deciding to attack her, instead. a snap in her direction. night wasn't quick enough to shift -- and she knew, she knew it was going to be risky placing herself without distance from the enemy -- damn her for playing the part of the fool. jack wasn't raised quick enough to fend the knight, and that headbutt, the most that cardinal could do after taking a bite out of the woman's figure sent her spiraling across sand, pushing the player onto the edge of the shoreline. night skid to a halt, forced herself grab hold of the ground, snaking a trail dug into the sand from when she decided to stop. had she waited a little longer, she would've reached the water's depths. the best she had to work with, as she rose, were her shoes getting damp and her hands wet with saltwater. almost like the dungeon all over again. if looks could kill, the serpent would've died right there. Nari-Lanreth 0 Posted March 21, 2022 Author #175 Share Posted March 21, 2022 (edited) She truly was a beauty to watch on the battle field, and Nari felt her gaze drawn to NIGHT as the girl rushed forward, once again slashing her blade across the sea serpent and leaving a wide gash behind as a reminder of her time there. She missed, entirely, as the serpent pulled back in retaliation. Slamming itself into NIGHT it sent the girl flying, leaving her tumbling across the sands. “NIGHT! NO!” The scream was out Nari’s lips before she even realised herself that she was moving, sprinting in between the serpent and NIGHT, raising her shield and slamming her spear into place atop of it. The growl that escaped her lips spoke of anger, and danger. And as she planted herself, she felt the flow as she continued into her strike, the spear thrusting forwards towards the creature. Connection or not, Nari was determined to drag this thing to hell, her fury unleashed as the scene of NIGHT being tossed played behind her eyes. NIGHT 0 Posted March 21, 2022 #176 Share Posted March 21, 2022 she hadn't watched nari fall in direct line with her opponent. rather, she'd seen it and registered the movement at the corners of her vision. instead, night's focus was straight at the boss. she knew it was coming. that singular strike, that moment of truth. like a flame lit inside her, agitated and upset at the tribulations the serpent put them through, she preened with fury, blade swung to one side. a running distance away from the target. she would make that leap across the beach towards it. it was only when night started to move that she felt that fire intensity, glowing. like an aura had surrounded her blade, coating it in blue light before she'd even had the chance to reach it. a humming in her sword. it shook in her grasp, further and further -- -- until she passed nari. and night could've sworn she saw static pass her eyes. in one fell motion did she sweep across the sand, closing that gap between her tank's side and the boss. her flash, erupting in a scream from her executioner in black tar that ate at the serpent's scales, the latter shrieking alongside its newfound gift, that tell-tale blow. and as though it had not been enough, the health bar inched close from orange to the red. it hung onto the last few points of health. night stopped herself, huffing, before pulling herself together. hilt of her blade twisted tight in her hand. she knew all that was needed was that one extra click. she wondered if she should've performing it. see, the player didn't need to snap her fingers for the enemy to perish, and yet, it would've been cool showing off like that. but she stayed quiet, breath held, until cardinal finally decided to catch up to the sea serpent (wyvern?) and tore it into fragments with a howl and a burst of light. she let herself inhale, hold her breath, and then let it out. her blade's tip sunk into the sand, night finally decided to groan, back arching, slumping forward as though throwing a fit. a pitiful look was shot back to nari as night turned her way. stray strands of hair decorated her face. unkempt, like a stray. Nari-Lanreth 0 Posted March 21, 2022 Author #177 Share Posted March 21, 2022 A flash as the other leapt through the air, landing and remaining motionless. A flash as the serpent erupted into shards. Nari remained still, her eyes on the spot that the serpent had been just moments before. Her fury, her anger subsiding. All at once she dropped the spear, rushing forwards and grabbing NIGHT in an embrace. She pulled the girl in tight, likely causing some discomfort with her grip. “I swear if you die, I’ll kill you. Do not scare me like that.” She gave one further pull towards herself, her head buried on the girl’s shoulder for a moment, before she released her. Wandering back to her spear, she collected the weapon from the ground before glancing at her health bar. It was further down than she liked, but slowly climbing. NIGHT’s below her own was what drew her attention though, a small piece missing, but enough that she felt an anger towards Cardinal again. “Should we…take some time to relax in your hidden spot?” Her frustration was slowly simmering away, as she realised they were both fine. She wasn’t quite ready to smile yet – the look of stress still on her face – but she could feel herself balancing out, and knew that soon she’d be back to normal. Later, she would consider the fear she had felt, but for now she needed to just collapse. “Maybe do some swimming, or relaxing on the beach? Or swimming. Swimming sounds fun.” Spoiler Word Count:
NIGHT 0 Posted March 21, 2022 #178 Share Posted March 21, 2022 had the serpent not knocked the wind out of her, then at least the hug from nari did. and her breath had been shaky on the exhale. night let the woman stay, a hand pressed to her head, gently running through her locks. how her tank hadn't looked worse from wear from the battle, she wouldn't know. “I swear if you die, I’ll kill you. Do not scare me like that.” night couldn't help but find herself sheepish. didn't she get mad, too, in the heat of battle. as though the spectrum of her emotions were on display -- "if it makes you feel any better," she reassured, wispy, "i don't have any plans on dying, thank you very much." her body eased into that hold, too, as tight as it grew. when they parted ways, she burned when nari wasn't looking, then failed to recover when those eyes were set her way. night's hand reached out to hold her fingers as she followed in suit, once the weapon was collected. she had a rough gauge of where their destination would be at. "it's not hidden." a correction made with a firmer grasp and sights upon the horizon. "i distinctively remembered someone wanted to be shown off." “Maybe do some swimming, or relaxing on the beach? Or swimming. Swimming sounds fun.” her hand drifted from the hold to nari's chest, gesturing in a joke. "you, and what change of clothes? unless you mean to tell me you're going home soaked underneath your armor. though that doesn't sound comfortable in the slightest."
Nari-Lanreth 0 Posted March 22, 2022 Author #179 Share Posted March 22, 2022 The words were comforting, even if they were nothing more than empty promises. Nari knew that none of them had any plans on dying, but in the moment – it was enough. Taking a deep breath, she forced herself to calmness, taking comfort in the knowledge that they were safe for now at the very least. “You distinctly remember, hmph. I never said I wanted to be shown off. I just said…oh nevermind. If you don’t want to go swimming…” She paused at the next commentary from the girl, thinking about her inventory full of clothing. “I uh…have a few things I could change into if need be…” The devilish grin reappeared as another thought came to her mind, hoping to draw out that reddened expression once more. “And who said anything about needing clothing for swimming, anyways?” With a soft giggle to herself, she began to make her way down the beach, casting an eye back to ensure NIGHT was following her, and watching for the look of embarrassment from the girl that she hoped would show up in reaction to her suggestion. NIGHT 0 Posted March 22, 2022 #180 Share Posted March 22, 2022 night raised a brow to her retort. "never said you said it." but the moment she caught that grin, she recoiled in surprise. “And who said anything about needing clothing for swimming, anyways?” "w-wait--" it must've been more common in other cultures, she rationalized. there must've also been a poor reason to have opted for that train of thought to begin with, because there wouldn't be a need for it had they brought the appropriate wear along. and night flustered, scowling, covering her mouth with one hand and grabbing nari's with her other, once she'd caught up from the woman's teasing stroll. "howaboutlet'snot--" a slight tug away from the water. where night had the chance, she moved them towards inland, still continuing down their direction. and she got close, eyes to the skies as she burned scarlet -- "i hadn't pinned you for the type to be comfortable with that..." with another questioning look, more shy than suspect, she also asked, tucking a lock of hair behind her ear, "are-- are you going to be showing off in that way around others, too...?"
