continuing from koga's christmas party.

ch'ang yue hua.

wait, wasn't that a chinese name? night took her eyes off the cat for a moment, just so she could properly register that fact, and then they drifted to the player behind the little ball of fluff.

"Or Kali. Just call me Kali."

"yue hua," she repeated; foreign, like the syllables hadn't been uttered in a long time. and she wasn't great at the language, so immediately her attention drew to the characters involved.

"like moon flower?"

a terrible guess -- there was more intricacy to how the characters were picked out for one's birth, and yet she asked it anyway. "if you don't mind me calling you that," night added. english words as names were common enough where she was from that it didn't matter -- but until she understood better the origin of kali, it felt less frictional this way. purposeful. after all, burden of names usually weren't traded for mandarin names where she was from, and the taste of it reminded her of home.

then to the cat in question, and where yue hua had gotten such a sweet little thing. night nodded eagerly, though part of her wondered if her own familiar would've been happy to know she'd been gallivanting with another stray. she closed in on the kitten, unable to help her smile, and offered her hand. when the feline felt comfortable with her presence after giving her fingers a sniff, she let them sink to his tiny forehead, thumb rubbing softly behind ears.

"he's precious," night whispered, all too satisfied from the needed distraction from the party. and the milk on the stove -- she promised herself she wouldn't forget it. "a missing pet poster, huh?" it must've been an environmental event, more so than anything, and it kept players busy where daily doldrums would've soured their schedule well enough. helped those who couldn't pull out a weapon stay sane just the same. "couldn't help but reunite a cat and its owner when it's so close to christmas, then? or did you happen to have a free day today; have a penchant for looking after lost kittens?"
