[F04-OP] Equinox an Earraigh

Recommended Posts

She’d checked everything, making sure that the decorations weren’t overpowering, that the food was laid out – tables lining the entry hallway, the kitchen table and counters, and even the dining room table. The collection of varying foods – everything from what appeared to be typical Chinese/Japanese dishes, to the Gaelic dishes of her own family, and the numerous egg-based meals in honour of Ēostre.

The hallway itself had been lined with the coloured candles – something she’d spent days looking for, the varying colours of the rainbow lighting the hallway in an odd manner. She’d hung the images of the hares across the living room, hoping they weren’t too distracting compared to everything else.

Her nerves had certainly gotten the better of her as her finger hovered over the button, the message prepared to invite everyone to her home on the fourth in celebration of an event that she was sure only she celebrated. Sighing heavily, her eyes scanned the message again, hoping it didn’t sound too cringe worthy.

To: [List; All]
From: Nari-Lanreth
Message: Good day Aincradians, in celebration of the coming spring Equinox (at least, according to the calendar system here…I hope it’s right!), I wanted to invite everyone to a celebration that I’m hosting in my own place on the fourth floor! The celebration will commence from the break of dawn, until the late evening, honouring the goddess of spring, and the coming of another season. There’ll be plenty of food, some drinks, and depending on what everyone wants to do – maybe even some games? Anyways, if you’re interested in dropping by, or just plain bored/tired of grinding the fields, feel free to drop by! I’ve attached a map leading to my home in the message. Oh, and I have a special concert planned towards the end of the evening…so if anyone wishes to come play/sing, please let me know and we can do a quick rehearsal a couple hours before hand! Don’t worry it’s not hard!

A final sigh, and she sent the message off with a flick, returning to pacing the home in preparation for the first comers. She wondered if sending a message off an hour before sunrise on most floors was considered rude – something she hadn’t thought about until she’d sent it. Her face cringing slightly, she gave a silent prayer.

“Oh, Morríghan, what have I done?” The single sound of a slight squeak followed the sudden realisation spoken aloud.

true to night's jests, despite them only being so, the fact that nari had decided to end with a concert for the party was... telling.

and the woman only showed up at the front door early with her tongue stuck out just to tease her companion with affection. "see? i told you so. i told you--"

if she hadn't finished her menacing the other, it was only due to the fact that she hadn't properly registered just how much work and effort their host had put into organizing such an event. banners and colored candles, bunnies -- was this supposed to be a representation of easter? -- and the mix of food of different cuisines on the table; she wasn't sure if it was an intended fusion of cultures for the celebratory occasion, or if it was to nari's preference that the presentation was so... jumbled.

and yet the effort showed. it came through. it was apparent, even on the dress of her partner, her appearance the final piece of the puzzle that was this event that suddenly clicked into place.

so sobriety only kicked in for the woman at the trail of her voice and a pause afterwards. night didn't need the invitation in to have started towards her partner leaning in for a kiss to her forehead, the sting of the cold from her lips melting from the warmth between skin.

(a silent way of saying 'good job.')

"you should've told me," she mumbled, giving the woman another peck on her cheek ('well done') and the grab of nari's hand in night's own was paired with a squeeze of affirmation ('i'm proud of you.'). "i could've helped."

the quick change of clothes was in tandem with the warmer climate indoors. "now, what's this about a concert towards the end of the evening?"

Steam filled the small washroom, pouring out into the bedroom through the slightly ajar sliding doorway. Nearly akin to a sauna, not nearly as hot, but about as foggy as one would expect. A constant stream of water shot out from the shower head, colliding with the ginger's body before trailing down his pale skin and dripping to the floor, only to return down a drain. Jomei knew that there was no need to bathe in this world, it was no requirement, and they gained no benefit from doing so. However, a hot shower after a long day was just soothing, not as soothing as a dip in an onsen -something he was seemingly making a regular trip to nowadays- but relaxing nonetheless. Not only that, but it was just something from the real world that he could cling to, just to remind him of his humanity and add a sense of normality to his every day life.

The squeak of the faucet echoed throughout the small chamber as he turned it, the jets of water receding to a small trickle. With a heavy sigh, Jomei would run his hands up his forehead and along the crown of his skull, pushing the long strands of ginger hair from the front of his face to a home atop his head. Retrieving a towel and equipping it around his waist, the man would step from the shower, and the bathroom itself into his bedroom. Using a second towel to dry off his wet hair, giving it some semblance of that unruly, spiky look he usually went for as he did so. As the man went about drying himself off, the soft ping of a notification caught his attention. Curiosity drove him to open the message at the moment, rather than wait until he was finished with his task. Emerald eyes scanned the message before a soft smile pulled at his lips. Another holiday gathering, this time hosted by Nari-Larenth. Not feeling the need for a response, Jomei filed the event within his calendar, and continued turning down for the night.

Day of the Celebration

There was a bit of irony in having a party to celebrate the coming of the spring equinox on the Fourth Floor, where it was perpetually winter. At least, it was more apparent on other floors where the climates varied more with the seasons. Nonetheless, the ginger pulled his boots through the snow, following the map Nari had provided to her home on the ever-snowy floor.

Jomei stopped at the front door, looking around at the large estate the woman called home with a pensive expression on his face. "Why does everyone have such extravagant homes..?" Passing over that spark of jealousy in his voice, he would knock on the door to announce his arrival.

Having read the message aloud to herself, she began to dwell on it and consider going. It was just a party, right? No ulterior motives involved? It sure didn't seem like a problem, it sounded like a party...with an extra step, maybe? Yona didn't seem to understand or grasp whatever the sender, Nari, meant by a certain small detail...but the rest just sounded like what happens at a party. ...Wait...wasn't Nari that socially inept girl over at the Christmas party?

Oh, boy, this was gonna be a risk...that Yona would certainly be taking. "Well, I guess I'll need to begin preparations." She decided. The Binding Stone shook, and Shaxus came out to speak his opinion. "How interesting...You humans really seem to find the strangest things, you've all certainly changed during the past few thousand years I'd been sealed away...not that I remember THAT much about early humanity." Yona raised an eyebrow. "And what seems strange to you?" She asked. "In all these years, I'd never heard of deities that preside over seasons." Shaxus responded. "You humans really are odd, changing your beliefs so very easily throughout the generations..."

(OOC: An OOC religion check ensues, I think she failed the check XD)

Yona held her hand up to her chin in thought for a short moment. "You know what, I think we're on the same page with this one, I don't recall a goddess of spring in any religions I've heard of...not that I was into that sort of thing." She remarked. The message was sent by a player, so Yona's best guess was that it was related to a real-world belief she'd never known of. "Well, enough about the non-existent, it's time to go shopping for some proper attire to wear!" She decided as she headed out the door.

Day of the Celebration:

Yona had to equip a warm cloak over her party apparel due to the wintry conditions of the fourth floor. "How Ironic... a celebration dedicated to springtime and a deity of said season, set within a realm of eternal winter..." Shaxus remarked from the Binding Stone. ...Yeah, Yona was gonna have to say a few words, since Shaxus couldn't exactly communicate telepathically as of the moment. With a sigh, Yona stopped, checked to see if anyone was around, and spoke in hopes of getting something handled before anyone showed up. "I'm gonna make this clear, Shaxus. This is gonna have to be a 'me' thing, not a 'we' thing. Like most of the common folk we've encountered, not all of my people will be very accepting of your presence. If anything, it'll most likely unnerve them, and I don't feel like having to explain everything." She warned. "I understand if you want to have a part in the participation, but...I don't wanna take any chances. You can still see and hear from the Binding Stone, so I guess you could be around...in a roundabout way. Just don't speak up or jump out, you might scare someone. Got it?" Yona asked. Shaxus seemed to give a light groan in response, but he seemed willing to cooperate for the time being.

Yona approached the location as the map had directed. Nari's place was pretty extravagant...man, Yona couldn't wait to get an Estate, she just needed the col...she was sick of having to always rent rooms of random inns, she wanted to live within an estate again...but this time, she would be the owner, and she would get to call the shots...but, for now, she had a party to attend. As Yona approached the building, she saw someone else enter. ...Well, guess there was time to enter in a similar manner as she did last time!

She opened the door in a sudden motion, but made sure to not be too careless with the door. "And Dawn breaks through with the arrival!"

Technically, Dawn had arrived before she'd entered, but it seemed that she was among the first to arrive...and there were only familiar faces, though she'd only met Jomei. She simply recognized the other two from the last party she was at.

Small world.

Yona unequipped the cloak, revealing her choice of attire for the occasion, as she took in her surroundings. "Nice place you've got here, it's been a good while since I've been at an estate...other than where that Valentine tourney was held, of course." She remarked. Hopefully her words wouldn't give too much of a hint to her past...it could easily be assumed that it was a player estate she'd been to, right?

Shaxus's Binding Stone was attached to a small four-link chain that had its other end attached to the waistline of Yona's dress, and the Binding Stone itself would have simply appeared as a rock with a single hole at the top if it weren't for the diamond shape marking on it. Said marking had a border outline with various straight lines in all directions within. Whether this Binding Stone appeared out of place or not was up to the beholder. Hopefully players would think it was just an odd trinket equipped for safety.

The first arrival, was of course the one she had expected the most. Accepting the physical compliments that were provided, followed by the vocal commentary, Nari smiled. She cast a hand around the area, as if to draw attention away from herself and towards it all.

“It’s nothing really. Onóra gave a bit of assistance with the food – okay she gave all the assistance with the food. But the decorations were easy enough. Besides…it’s kind of a traditional thing for me, and it’s something I enjoy doing.” Her eyes diverted away as she blushed ever so slightly, before waving her hand again. “Anyways, who knows if anyone will even show up-“

Words cut short as a knock against the door caused her attention to pull momentarily from NIGHT. Almost in shock, she opened the door, finding another familiar face standing upon the doorstep. Breaking into a large smile, she bowed slightly, before providing her typical greeting for the occasion, knowing that Jomei would likely understand the words, if not the reference.

“Fáilte, agus d'fhéadfadh Brigitte agus Ēostre beannaigh an lá seo ar do shon. Lig an ghrian Shine síos ar athnuachan, agus leá ar shiúl an imní ar an am atá caite.” Straightening, she glanced inwards towards the house, stepping aside so that Jomei could enter without barrier. “Uhm…you two are the first to arrive – but hopefully more will come. I don’t know if you’re…well, anyways. Jomei, NIGHT. If you two haven’t met before. Uhm…there’s tons of food! And a little while later I’m looking at getting some activities going.”

Almost bouncing on the tips of her feet in excitement and embarrassment, she took two steps towards the interior before a third knock stopped her. Before she could even turn fully to answer the door, it had opened by itself, allowing another to enter the front hallway.

Nari recognised the face, but couldn’t quite put a name to it – and for a brief second she stood, look of confusion to the world as she tried desperately to place it. Then, almost as suddenly it was gone, her smile returning.

“Oh! Welcome! Thank you! It’s not quite as…grandiose as the estate on the twenty-seventh…but it’s definitely homely. Also, come in! The fires are going, so it should take away any of the chill already felt. Foods out, and I’m hoping some others will arrive shortly. Uhm…I just need to go – handle something, quickly! I’ll be right back!”

Dashing down the hallway, she made her way down the stairs into the recording studio in the basement, her eyes scanning the area before heading into the smaller stage room that she hadn’t gotten the ability to use previously. Eyes scanning the room quickly, she confirmed that the few instruments, as well as the microphones were in place – the lights off, but positioned appropriately. Content, she gave a sigh of relief, hesitating in her return as she realised just what she had gotten herself into.

“Social gathering. Smart. Tugann Morríghan neart dom.”

No one Krysta knew seemed to have any plans for the next day. Perhaps the consistent need to train had taken its toll on the players she knew? Whatever the case, she simply stood and stared at the message. It could not have possibly been Krysta's first choice as to how she would deal with the lack of plans...but it was certainly an option, since there was indeed nothing else to do. Even Vigilon was busy, somewhere in Aincrad, helping out another player or two, although, based on what other messages she'd received, it seemed to take longer than a single day.

Day of the Celebration:

Krysta stood, despite the freezing chill of the floor's wintry conditions. Thankfully, only a light breeze seemed to be blowing. She chose to stand here and witness the sunrise before actually going inside. The estate was in sight, but still a fair distance away. Krysta watched, and waited. She must never forget her own interpretation of this day's importance. Then, at last, the sun came into view as dawn broke through. Krysta stared off into the distance. "And on the third day, he rose from the grave..." She recalled. She spent a moment in silence, then she moved on, heading for the estate.

This party she'd heard of may be a way to spend some time with other people, but she had to admit to herself, she was nervous. She moved through the freezing conditions, the chill moving through her avatar as she walked in the snow. As cold as it was, it wasn't painful...although it did tingle beyond a few inches above her ankles. Hopefully she wouldn't end up taking any hypothermal damage as she approached the location of the event.

When she arrived, she made her way over to the door, and knocked with slight hesitation.

Hands shoved into his pockets to protect the skin from the biting cold, the ginger gazed around at the snowy exterior of Nari's humble abode for just a few moments before the door swung open. The familiar gaze of the violet haired woman met his, before she offered a rather lengthy greeting in the Irish language. The ginger simply smiled, allowing the small chuckle that bubbled up within to escape as his lips parted into a grin. "Well hello to you too." he chose to leave out an Irish greeting of his own, since Nari had said enough for the two of them, "Thank you for the warm welcome." he added with a polite bow of his head, before accepting entry into Nari's house.

With a swipe of his hand, Jomei removed his green cloak from his shoulders, leaving him in a form fitting, short sleeved, collared shirt with a pinstripe-like pattern to it. "You have quite the home, Nari." Jomei noted as he took in the interior, and the decorations Nari had plastered onto the wall just for the occasion. As he followed her into the mansion, he saw that he was the first guest to arrive. Formal guest at least, since NIGHT was already in attendance. With what little Jomei knew of the budding companionship between the two women, it didn't shock Jomei that she was in attendance. At least, for once, he would be able to share some words with her and get to know the fellow frontliner. "Oh Nari, before you go, later on we can speak about that performance you planned to put on. I wouldn't mind having a part in that, if you'll have me."

As the violette went off to greet more guests, Jomei turned to NIGHT, extending a hand in greeting. "I suppose its nice to officially meet you, NIGHT. Even though I feel we've fought in a few boss raids together, we still haven't had then chance to actually talk."

players unknown.

and the woman nearly let out a gasp at hearing the flow of unnatural words to her tongue out of nari. she hadn't understood what was said in the slightest. a new friend? it sounded like more. most likely ones the player either made before her time or during when they weren't on good terms.

night found herself cautious, eying the entrants. introduced to one -- jomei -- and not the other, though the player wouldn't have blamed her other for not remembering. there were just so many players in aincrad, after all. though she'd wanted query about the message sent out (after all, who let cardinal implement an @ everyone feature?), her other had decided upon scurrying towards the recording studio down in the basement. likely to set up.

she let her, despite the feeling of wanting to follow. "i'll keep an eye on the door," night shot back, turning to the one face that at least had a name to him. "jomei, right?"

the extended hand was appreciated. night shook it in formality. though, the manner in which he spoke of their meeting seemed curious. "officially?" she hadn't pinned the man for one of the players on the front, and it made just a tad bit less sense that she hadn't known of him through that channel. "shuffled into one of the other parties then, i take it? sorry -- i usually don't go hunting for other veterans through word of mouth." her brow furrowed, considering his word choice from earlier. "you said officially, right? how'd you hear of me...?"

then it was at the mention of the valentines tournament from the guest after him, and night found herself tensing at her shoulders. she tilted her head, gesturing to the other woman for a moment -- "...from that?"

there came a brief knock on the door afterwards -- the player excused herself for one moment if only to pull open the entrance for the new visitor. a brief excuse -- "hey. sorry, host's missing for a bit, but come inside anyway." -- before she shut of the door behind the newcomer, looking to jomei and hoping he'd have a response.

She’d barely caught the question Jomei had tossed her way before disappearing, and as her heart calmed to a normal beating within her chest, she suddenly cursed aloud – realising she’d dashed off without answering.

“Tugann Morríghan neart dom. Ugh. This…this is not going how I wanted…” Softly banging her head against the wall, she dashed out of the stage room and back up the stairs towards the main floor, finding the majority of people still within the living room area, a small conversation between NIGHT and Jomei having flourished.

She hesitated for a brief second, allowing them to finish their conversation – or at least a portion of it – before wandering over towards them in what she hoped was a casual-not-nervous manner. Beaming a smile at the two, she nodded towards Jomei, her face flushing ever so slightly. “Sorry, in answer to your question…I’d love if you’d join in – I tried to keep it a little bit easier, but the song is…well, it’s nothing spectacular, just something I thought everyone might enjoy…”

She pulled out the specialised recording crystal – one of a few she’d crafted for today. They held nothing more than the recording of the song, but she’d done a few extras knowing that others may want to hear the song in preparation. Handing it over to Jomei, she gave a soft smile. “I’ve got a few of these, so you can have this one to listen to the lyrics and get a feeling for the song itself before performance time. And…feel free to adjust it in any way you want once we hit the stage, the idea is…well, amalgamation.”

She had just turned to speak with NIGHT when she noticed another newcomer, standing slightly off to the side. Plastering what she hoped was a welcoming smile, she moved towards the other, giving what was likely the worst curtsy in the history of, well, curtsies before speaking aloud.

“Fáilte! Welcome! Please, come in – I don’t think we’ve met before. I’m Nari-Lanreth, the…host, of this occasion! I’m glad you were able to make it. I’ve got some refreshments out, and there’s a few people here already – hopefully more, soon! Please come in and meet everyone.” Turning and grabbing hold of NIGHT’s arm – as much for her own comfort as to encourage the association aspect, she’ll pull the other towards her. “This is NIGHT, my- uhm. Well, my companion. And other there is Jomei, he’s amazing. And Yona was around here a moment ago…”

She gave a soft wave towards Yona as soon as she spotted the other, before turning back to the newcomer. “I know every celebrates a different day, but regardless of that, Happy Easter, and best wishes upon you for this coming season.”

Yona's eyes widened when the host mentioned she had another Estate, over on the twenty-seventh floor. "Damn..." Yona muttered under her breath in pleasant shock. "You must be pretty skilled then, how'd you make bank like that?" She asked, genuinely wondering how this player managed to get all the col she'd have needed to get her hands on both her fine homes. Even an Estate alone wasn't exactly cheap, so clearly this player had managed to strike it rich or something.

Oh, the host was gone all of a sudden. well, guess that question would have to wait until later. Yona felt a slight tapping on her dress, and she could only guess that Shaxus was trying to get her attention. She simply placed her hand over the Binding Stone to make sure no one saw it shaking.

One player walked over to the door in the host's stead to let in another player, while Yona took the liberty of excusing herself to make sure nothing was wrong. She checked to make sure no one was looking, then she tapped the Binding Stone twice while whispering, "What is it this time?"

"You've noticed how weak and minuscule I currently am, right?" Shaxus asked. "Uh yeah?" Yona answered, as quietly as her previous words. "I'm getting a familiar sensation...I recognize nothing, but there's something familiar that I can't quite place..and I find it kind of unsettling..." The shadow within the Binding Stone continued. Yona had an unamused expression on her face. "Shaxus, why are you like this..." She groaned. She didn't understand why he seemed to act like he was unusually sensitive. "You're with me, you're fine. You've got nothing to worry about as long as I've got you." A lack of movement from the Binding Stone, and a silence that it was paired with, Yona could only assume Shaxus was done. She then went to regroup with the other players.

When Yona got back to the other players, Nari spotted her and waved. Yona would wave back, and see Krysta there as well. "Oh hey, nice seeing you again! How have you been?" She greeted. She then looked over to Nari again after any potential answer from Krysta. "Right, you kind of disappeared when I least expected, but I don't mind, you're the host, after all. Running an event doesn't exactly sound easy...anyway, I'm really curious as to how you managed to get all the col you'd need for both this place and an Estate! If I didn't know any better, I might start getting jealous!" She said to Nari. As someone who really wanted an Estate for both personal preference, and lifestyle familiarity, Yona wanted to know what the best strategies for racking up col were. The Binding Stone shuddered slightly, but Yona immediately moved her hand to keep the "trinket" still as to prevent any suspicion.

The door would open, and a woman in a tracksuit would greet Krysta, letting her know that the Host was missing for the moment, but also letting her in. However, said host quickly returned, making an attempt at a curtsy. The meaning was just able to get across to Krysta though, so Krysta would curtsy as well. The host would introduce herself as Nari-Lanreth, and state that there were refreshments out, as well as a few players present. She then introduced the woman in the tracksuit as NIGHT, stating that said woman was her Companion, as she seemed to claim. She also introduced her to a Ginger named Jomei, and noted that Yona was around, too, despite the apparent lack of her presence. While this was a fair amount to take in at once, Krysta should be able to respond properly. "It is a pleasure to meet you all, I am Krysta." She began.

@NIGHT @Jomei

Before she could continue, Yona returned to the room, and the host would wave to her. Yona would wave back, before walking over to join in the conversation. Nari noted to Krysta that she was aware that different people celebrated different occasions during this season. It was true, as Krysta was one such person... Nari proceeded to offer best wishes to Krysta for this coming season of Spring. "Thank you, and may your days in the coming season be blessed as well." Krysta returned with a soft smile. Yona then greeted Krysta, asking her how she'd been. "I have been doing well so far, how about you?" Krysta responded. Yona then began to speak of Estates with Nari. She seemed a bit excited about it... She couldn't help but wonder why, but for the time being, it was not a question for Krysta to ask.

Perhaps his choice of words weren't exactly on the mark of the point he was trying to make in his vague familiarity with NIGHT. He hadn't heard of her in the sense of listening in on tales of a fellow player, or from word of mouth in their mutual peers. They had simply crossed paths a few times before now, mostly during boss battles, and never took the time to speak to eachother.

A hand snaked around his neck to gently rub at the nape of his neck. "Sorry.." he said with a sheepish chuckle, "What I meant was that we've both fought on the frontlines a few times, different parties I believe. I just try to keep a note of the other frontliners.. not that I go seeking them out to speak with them. The event on Baldur's island kind of stuck the face and the name together."

Nari returned shortly after dismissing herself with a recording crystal in hand. A small sample of the song she would be performing later. Taking the item in his hands, Jomei looked at it for a moment before turning his eyes back to Nari. "Alright, I'll give it a listen in a little bit. Thanks."

Looking towards the other two newcomers, Jomei offered a polite nod of his head. "Pleasure to see the both of you again."

it'd surprised night to find nari rushing back out of the studio as she'd headed towards it earlier -- something she forgot to address, perhaps? and the quip on her tongue afterwards, 'so jomei gets amazing, and i'm your companion?' though she'd wanted to say it, the jest might've only been humorous if it was only the two of them. she left it there, leaning into their host instead, because surely the player needed it, the way night's own arm was being held at the moment.

and night was surprised to know that it was easter. because a while ago, it had been a big enough occasion that they system had decided to throw an egg hunt out of it -- why not now? the mention of different events came to pass nari's lips, which made it prime for the follow up question, "forgive me for asking, but aside from easter, what others had you figured others celebrated this occasion?"

had the player set aside that thought, it was to be courteous. a bow to krysta at the mention of blessings, a humble muttered equivalency in return. and though she'd wanted to allow yona's inquiry to pass -- because night hadn't heard of its rationale, either, and she was deathly curious -- she found herself shrugging in response, added with a light smirk. "joint funding. i'm farming safely with loot-aspected gear on while she takes the reigns in combat. the perks of having her as a partner." her thumb glided across nari's skin for good measure.

to jomei, she'd nodded, considering. regarding the tournament -- 'the face and the name go together' -- a part of her wondered if the outcome of that event had seemed like a twist, the way a witness might've noticed the duo joined the way they were now. she'd leaned away from her companion in that thought, just slightly, hand twirling at a lock of her hair absentmindedly. had anyone else came to visit, night hoped it wasn't going to be a player who recognized either of them for what had transpired back at the dojo. "if you need a quiet space to practice," the player spoke up, now feeling the same urge to hide as their host once did, "the recording studio's downstairs."
