Armor and Weapon slots

Ok. I have heard there are 2 slots for armor/ Trinkets, and 1 slot for weapons. Shouldn't the shield go into an extra weapon slot?

Trinket was an old term I was using, it is actually called an 'accessory' now. An accessory can be many things, such as; a belt, gloves, vambrace, crown, necklace, etc. In the event a swordsman is using a shield, then his or her shield would occupy one of these three slots, most likely the accessory slot.
