Cindy-Catherine Mirabelle D'Artagnan. With a name like that, Cindy had no objections to the nickname 'Cat' that she was given sometime in her early life, especially if it saved her from three musketeer references. She didn't experience the typical girl's childhood when growing up. Being the third child of the family, her parents used her as an experiment, or that's how she likes to tell it anyway. Her two older sisters, who Cindy refers to as the 'princesses' were fairly spoiled and eagerly followed in the footsteps of their mother.

Cindy, not so much. Her dad was hoping to finally have a boy when Cindy's mom got pregnant for the third time. Things didn't work out and instead they got a Cindy-Catherine Mirabelle D'Artagnan. Her dad decided that gender wasn't going to stop him from having a father-son relationship, and so Cindy was raised like a boy. So much so, that there were points in her life when she forgot she was a girl. Luckily there was always some douche-bag eager to remind her.

Originally her parents got her involved with sports. That didn't work out. Her dad didn't mind, he was a big nerd himself and was more than happy to introduce Cindy to the world of gaming. Her mom was less thrilled about that. And so Cindy grew up as a tom boy with a slice of geek. For the most part things were fine, she didn't have a lot of girl friends but found a place with a close-knit group of boys. It was in High school when things got weird.

Her guy friends started to change, it became obvious they were developing feelings for her. Problem was, most of them were and she didn't know how she felt in return. Confused she looked for an escape and found it in online gaming. She stayed in touch with her IRL friends, after all she still saw them at school every day. But in her free time she distanced herself, creating alternate persona's in MMO's and just being who she wanted to be. Her friends would sometimes play too, but that was fine, being hidden behind the screen made things easier.

Graduation and prom though... made things worse. Now having been asked out by a few of her close friends. Why did they have to complicate things? Around the same time she learned her father had accepted a long term contract position for work in Japan. With high school completed and her awkward social life, she felt it was a good time to experience something new. She asked if she could go with him, and he agreed.

Being shy by nature, it wasn't easy making any new friends in Japan, not speaking Japanese certainly didn't help. Cindy didn't mind too much though, usually content alone doing her own thing. When news of VR MMOs and the Nervegear equipment came out, all she knew was that she had to try it. With her dad's connections in the industry she managed to get the Nervegear equipment and a copy of Sword Art Online on its release date. She wondered if the name lost something in translation, but shrugged in her excitement as she placed the helmet over her head, lay back and powered it on..

Virtues and Flaws:

((I didn't want to categorize these because, a Flaw or Virtue is merely a point of view. Some may say being selfish is a flaw, and it probably is socially. However from a survival standpoint selfish could also be a virtue. So instead I'm just listing them as her traits. Good or Bad is up to your own opinion.))

. Determination - When she sets her sight on a specific task, little can dissuade her from attempting to complete it. She handles failures fairly well, using them as an opportunity to learn what she did wrong. She rarely becomes emotional from struggles as a result of this trait and her realistic ideology.

. Stubborn - Determination can sometimes develop into stubbornness.

. Open Minded - Cindel is inquisitive by nature and is always willing to make an effort to understand someone else's point of view regardless if she agrees or not with it.

. Strong Willed - A compliment to her determination. She developed this trait as a shield to her sensitivity. Most attempts to provoke or anger her will generally be futile.

. Selfish - Cindel rarely concerns herself with the needs and wants of others. Typically any co-operation with others is driven by some personal desire she can benefit from. There are rare exceptions made for people she considers close to her.

. Sensitive - At one point in her life Cindel was extremely sensitive. As a way of protecting herself she developed many other traits all strengthening her will to disregard the feelings and opinions of others. This probably played a role in her introversion. But despite distancing herself and her strong will, she is still extremely sensitive over people and things she cares for. Though few they may be.

. Introvert - They often take pleasure in solitary activities such as reading, writing, and using computers. An introvert is likely to enjoy time spent alone and find less reward in time spent with large groups of people, though he or she may enjoy interactions with close friends. Trust is usually an issue of significance: a virtue of utmost importance to introverts is choosing a worthy companion. They prefer to concentrate on a single activity at a time and like to observe situations before they participate. They are more analytical before speaking.

. Realist - Bases her actions and interactions with others with a realistic view point, at least one that seems real to her. For example, she has hard time complimenting someone on something they may have created, or done. Unless she truly believes what they did deserves it. Where as most people will try and say something to encourage or discourage someone, she will generally be truthful in her assessments. She isn't a robot though, sometimes she'll lie for the benefit of others, but it doesn't come naturally.

. Egotistic - This only happens if she truly believes it due to being a realist. But if she thinks she's better than someone, she has no reservations about expressing it.

. Silly - Cindel sometimes believes her entire life is just some kind of story or tv show to entertain biengs beyond her comprehension. Well, she doesn't actually believe this, but that doesn't stop her from pretending. As such she sometimes talks to herself or says cliche remarks and jokes during socially tense moments, to provide relief as if there was some unseen audience. Perhaps she really does this for her own benefit as reality can sometimes be grim.
