Gestein 0 Posted August 16, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 16, 2014 Profile » Username: Gestein » Aliases/Nicknames: Stein, Haas “The Rockâ€, The Big Man, The Boulder that Walks » Real name: David “Kawika†Nagazawa » Age: 30 » Gender: Male » Height: 6'5" » Appearance: » Battle Theme: Rittai Kidou » About: David was born to a Japanese father and a Hawaiian mother on the Hawaiian island of Oahu, where he lived until he was 10 years old. As the eldest of three boys, his life was fairly care-free on the island; he was naturally proficient in class and could get away with getting decent grades without having to push himself too hard, and the locals were very laid back and friendly. Everyone on the island was “uncleâ€, “auntie†or “cousin†to him. People took their time to really relax, and there were no worries on little things like “being on timeâ€. It was idyllic. However, David’s father saw this attitude as lazy and conspired to move the family back to his native country so that his son could see, in his words, “what a real education looked like.†David did not do particularly well in the Japanese school system. Although he spoke both English and Japanese fluently (thanks to his parents firm insistence on learning their native tongues), his reading comprehension was not as up to par in Japanese. This, along with the shock of suddenly being shunted into a completely strange and new situation, made his time in school difficult. It also did not help that he was somewhat of a slacker to begin with; preferring to coast along on his natural aptitude rather than study. Unlike his classmates, he did not cram study or try to be the best that he could be. He only focused on getting by. When he hit his growth spurt in high school, the rotund boy caught the eye of a few coaches who thought they could make good use of his broad shoulders and large frame, but he was never really interested in sports. He made a few friends while in school and mostly kept to himself, but was able to branch out and make acquaintances through his judicious use of the internet, online gaming in particular. If not for the fact that his two younger brothers earned the lion’s share of their father’s ire with their constant disobedience and recklessness, his slacking would not have gone unpunished. Time passed, and David chose to avoid university and instead go work a physical job on the docks, much to the chagrin of his father. Why bother with all of that studying just to become a salaryman when he could get paid an honest hourly wage? It wasn't worth all of the stress. A job that didn't require much thought was much less frustrating and allowed him to think of what really mattered; planning the next raid in his favorite MMORPG or coming up with new build ideas for his characters. He could afford a decent apartment, food, and a decent internet connection, and as such had no more ambition than to simply pass the time away in peace. When word came out that a total immersion VR gaming platform had been invented, the gaming veteran decided to make the jump to the next generation. Although he was not selected for the beta, he pre-ordered Sword Art Online and even took the release day off so that he could get a good strong head start in the game. If only he knew just how much that game would change his easy-going life… » Virtues: Loyalty. If you are his friend, comrade, “Ohanaâ€, or brother/sister-in-arms, you will find no one more loyal than David. He cares deeply and fiercely for the people that manage to make it into his life and make an impact, and will be utterly devoted to their causes and needs in return. Calming Presence. David is a paragon of ‘taking it easy’ and has a very warm demeanor amongst friends. He likes to claim that he is a gentle giant, and is the first to jump at an opportunity to get people to relax and take a load off after a hard day’s work or a stressful situation. He works hard to keep people who are in his group of friends from fighting amongst each other, and will be the first to act as an arbitrator if a quarrel arises. Brave. His view of the game has given rise to a bravery that he would not have ordinarily had in real life. Before being trapped, if he was feeling particularly melancholic, he would sometimes quip that if he only had an enemy greater than his apathy he could have won, or that every day is mundane and exactly the same, so what was the point of trying hard? Being trapped changed all of that. Now that he has a clear goal in mind and people to protect, he can channel his resolve towards completing the game in the sort of grand and epic quest that he has yearned for all of his life. » Flaws: Pride. There is something in his Polynesian blood, as he likes to claim, that will not let an insult or slight pass unreturned. His mother was a smash-mouthed, take no nonsense sort of person, and her personality rubbed off on him in that regard. Depression. David suffers from depression, and as such he is prone to sudden bouts of melancholy and hopelessness. Some days he will wake up and firmly believe that his life has no meaning, despite every logical fiber of his being screaming at him, saying “what right do you have to be so unhappy and forlorn?†These bouts prey on him at random, although he has been known to spiral into depression after significant life events as well, such as being broken up with or losing a loved one. Because of this, David does not take the loss of something important in his life lightly. He's learned to hide it well enough (or so he thinks), and refuses to talk about it openly or seek help for it when it rears its ugly head. Guarded. David is a bit stand-offish at first with new people in unfamiliar situations. It takes him a while to gauge their trustworthiness, and at first glance comes off as introverted when presented with new scenarios. He needs to “Warm up†to people before becoming friendly with them, unless he is somewhere he feels comfortable – such as his hometown or his favorite restaurant. Stubborn. Though he will usually go with the flow of things or do as asked of him by his comrades, if David really does not want to do something, no amount of convincing or cajoling will make him change his mind.
