«Iensu» The misanthropic loner.

» About:

Tanaka Shun is a classic hikikomori. He has been brought up under rather unfortunate circumstances. When he was only three years old his father attempted to take Shun's life and then his own. His mother was not supposed to be home at that time but came home earlier from work. She sensed something going on and rushed into Shun's room, seeing her very own husband pointing a knife at him.

Nearly losing her mind she rushed in to save Shun and succeeded, but the knife still touched blood: Hers.

His father ran off at that night and presumably ended his own life in some filthy alley in Kyoto, whre they lived.

His mother somehow survived, but was severely injured and her body and mind never quite recovered from that incident.

When Shun joined elementary school he was quite the shy loner, but he had one rather close friend who lived just across his street. When in grade 2 that friend had to move away Shun got extremely lonely and only focused on games and school. He was an extremely talented reader at a young age and loved to read. He also started playing table tennis and practicing kendo, but he never really was a team player.

This personality on his made his middle school life extremely difficult. He got bullied a lot for being "odd" and a "loner" and everyone thought he was some kind of sociopath even though he just didn't know how to interact with people since his mother always sheltered him after that incident. All these years of bullying made him both misanthropic and ambitious. One day he was going to pay them all back.

Throughout middle school and high school he never really made any friends or even acquaintances, he also never really joined any kind of clubs besides the Kendo dojo and the table tennis team on which he never played doubles.

His mother also became overly protective of him and they fought quite a bit, because she wanted to completely control his life and make him an outgoing, extroverted person with lots of friends.

She was quite harsh on him at times which caused him to lock himself away from people even more.

Maybe he really wanted to make friends, but he never really knew what "friendship" was so the whole concept confused and scared him. To him it all looked very superficial to a sickening point.

He loves gaming and he always strives to be one of the best and he always seeks new challenges.

Despite his apparent laziness that made his grades drop down a bit in High School he gets quite ambitious and hard-working when it comes to gaming.

» Virtues:

Intelligence.

Shun is quite intelligent. He was able to read at the age of 4 and solved difficult math problems in elementary school. In 4th grade he already knew about complicated concepts of physics and he loved reading books on random topics. His interests are quite flaky and may shift very quickly though.

Ambition.

His ambition might be unmatched when it comes to gaming. Before there were VRMMO's he was a very high ranking player on many MMO's and MOBA's as well as FPS games. He'd skip classes to grind his ranks.

Anticipation.

Years of being bullied, having to deal with his controlling mother and having no support at all made him become a very anticipating person. Shun can be very careful and has almost built up a sixth sense when it comes to anticipating danger.

Laziness.

Shun can also be a very lazy person when he has to do things he doesn't really want to do. In-Game Iensu will probably be too lazy to keep up a profession unless he really wants to get something out of it and will avoid quests he finds boring or not worth doing.

Reserved.

This one should be obvious.

He'll hardly ever join parties or guilds and if he does it will be only because he needs to. Small talk wears him out and he won't really share anything too personal with other people.

Bonding with Iensu is extremely difficult.

Self-Critical.

Shun is extremely self-critical. Failure is not an option to him and he really takes each perceived failuire to heart.

When he fails to defeat a monster/boss he will become very bitter about it and maybe even lose the will to continue the quest (at least for a while)
