The blonde collapsed down beside her - her fall exaggerated ever so slightly. Nari turned her glance ever so slightly to watch Onóra out of the corner of her eye, her face stoic and expressionless as she calmly spoke. "You know, you were lucky I was around. Had it just been you and that pack...anyways. Your form could use a bit of work - stop dropping your right arm, when you're going for an overhand strike - but...you're amazing. You're as good as some people I know on the frontlines...and last time I saw you, you couldn't even lift a sword. Let alone dance the War Dance with a pack of wolves, and come out alive."

Onóra had frowned as Nari started talking, but as the purple-haired reaper continued, the frown slowly faded away, leaving behind a soft smile in its place. Onóra threw a soft punch at Nari, whom chose to ignore the action entirely as she brought up her own menu. A few quick selections, and the party invite had appeared before Onóra, hovering in the air. For a brief second, Nari waited with her breath held, wondering what Onóra would do. Then the blonde hit the accept button, and Nari released her breath.

"Should've done that earlier, sorry. Would've noticed your...err...troubles, a bit faster then..." Nari's voice hovered with hesitation, not wanting to downplay Onóra's capabilities, but also trying to show concern for her friend.

"You don't need to be sorry." Onóra's voice was pleasant, filled with a tinge of what Nari assumed was happiness. Her hands had been placed beneath her head as she laid back, content to relax for the moment, while Nari continued searching the area absentmindedly. "If anything...I probably should've thought of it as well, as soon as we agreed to come here...it's not like remaining separate is beneficial. And I'm surprised the quest accepted both of us without the party indication...might be worth mentioning to info brokers in the future..."

Nari rolled to her feet, her energy fully returned to her and her desire to get back into action pushing her into movement. She glanced down at Onóra before offering a hand. "Unless you'd prefer to remain seated here, that is...but I'm ready to get back into movement and conflict. Plus...I could show you a move or two, if you wanted?"

The blonde stared at Nari for a single second, before accepting the hand. Her face breaking into a large grin as she pushed back at the jest. "You're pretty confident for someone who used to just sit back and take a beating while everyone else did the hard work...maybe I should be showing you, some moves."

Nari laughed, before turning to face the field before them. There were still lots of groups of creatures running around, and Nari found herself wondering whether it was worthwhile to try fighting something new. She was used to the wolves, but sometimes that comfortableness could create complacency, which meant dangers when facing something new. You're not the only one here, though...stick with what you know, until you're both comfortable with moving on.

Unable to argue with the logic, she turned to find another pack of wolves in the distance. Nodding towards them, she took off on a small jog towards them, picking up the pace into a sprint as she came within a few metres. Her final leap into the air, followed by a wide swing, aimed to take all four at once with her scythe - giving her a brief glance as Onóra's form launched behind her - well clear from Nari's strike, but close enough to follow up her attack as soon as Nari's had landed.

[Nari-Lanreth 0]

Nari's strike left the wolves stunned, their bodies unmoving aside from their eyes. Behind her, she could hear Onóra approaching on her right, the woman's footsteps loud against the grass underfoot. She didn't turn to look at her friend, calling out over her shoulder the command that would allow them better coherence in combat. "Onóra! Switch!"

As if on command, Onóra's form rushed past, the longsword sweeping through the nearest wolf as it slammed backwards - leaving it injured, but not dead. Nari grinned, taking her own approaching steps and listening for the response from her friend. For the moment, it was a game of cat and mouse, and the two of them were clearly the cats. "You're up! Switch in!"

The moment Nari heard the words, her body shifted, the weight that she had been using for forward moment twisting and forcing her scythe around in a wide arc. She'd come to enjoy the momentum placed behind the weapon - something that required little in the way of strength for herself, once she had learnt how to balance the length and general physics of it all. It almost felt, sometimes, as if the weapon swung itself on her behalf.

A quick check to make sure that Onóra was fine, and then Nari was moving again, her legs carrying her across the open grasses towards the next group of wolves, preparing for the conflict to continue. Nari felt the rush of the battle, the common enjoyment that came with the expenditure of energy and consistent fatigue of battle. 

Whether she had been here too long, or if it had been some part of her hidden away beneath it all, Nari wasn't quite sure. Either way, it was a part of her now, and she enjoyed every moment of that battle rush. It wasn't the desire to annihilate, that some individuals had, nor the bloodlust that came through causing pain and suffering to others - it was the simple joy found in the clash of blades, the challenge of overcoming your opponent. The dance of death, as her instructors had once taught her. 

"Watch your left!" The call brought Nari back to reality, and she tossed herself to her right side in an attempt to avoid the fangs that had been snapping at her flank. Setting her feet, she brought her scythe up, giving it a soft kick to start the whirlwind motion, the blade swiping through the air all around her in response to her basic movements.

[Nari-Lanreth 0]

Nari's blade drove straight through the wolves, sending three flying backwards to lay stunned upon the ground, before embedding itself into the final target. She grinned as another blade stabbed through the opposite side of the beast, draining what little health points it had left, before causing it to shatter. She quickly found herself staring at the blonde through the shimmering shards on the air, thoughts processing through her mind faster than she could compute properly.

"There's still more, come on. You can't sit around here all day long, just staring." The voice was coated in sarcasm, as if reading Nari's mind. Shaking her head, she turned back to the fight, a quick twist of the scythe bringing it around to a point where it fell into her ready stance almost naturally. She could feel the blonde's eyes on her, watching. "You seem well practiced with that...when did you switch out?"

"Just recently, actually...although wielding a spear for a while likely helped...it's...kind of like balancing a spear, that has a sword blade on its end. Or an oddly shaped glaive, I guess..." Nari shrugged, unsure of how else to describe it. The weapon fit her, and that was all that she cared about.

"It suites you." The words rang in Nari's ears, even as she stepped forward to bring the weapon around in another arc, aiming to finish the fight as quickly as possible to give the two of them some more time to rest and recover.

Nari gave a single sweep of the blade after the final wolves had been defeated. She threw a questioning glance at Onóra, before tilting her head in the direction of another pack of wolves. "Feeling up for another quick round? I don't know about you, but today has been...profitable. I wouldn't mind going a bit longer, but let's not overdo it either - yeah?"

Onóra nodded, checking the length of her longsword. The blonde seemed to focus on the edge for a second, as if checking for any break or imperfection, before looking up and at the wolves. "Yeah...I should be good for another quick round. So long as we - like you said - don't overdo it. Would be a shame to fall prey to one of Nemo's pets, wouldn't it?"

Nari nodded. Understatement of the year, that comment. Instead she gave a quick shift of her shoulders, before beginning to make her way across the grass. In an attempt to conserve herself, she didn't run. No sprint or fast pace, a simple walk carrying her over to the next mob of wolves, the scythe held comfortably behind her. "Last one for a little bit, then..."

Their blades seemed to dance together as they descended upon the wolves, Onóra driving the creatures towards Nari's scythe, only to find themselves caught in the sharp whirlwind that left them stunned and unable to move. Systematic, controlled, calm. 

Nari had to admit, the two of them worked well together - far better than she'd done with some others she'd encountered across Aincrad. She had just considered mentioning it aloud, when the wolves had begun to move again, tearing her mind away from the thoughts and back into the fight before them.

"Watch your left!" Nari called as one of the wolves attempted to dodge around and flank the two girls, Onóra's blade whipping through the air to meet it and drive it back into the central area that they had been pulling them into. Nari flashed a wicked grin, before kicking the haft of her scythe's shaft and spinning it through its whirlwind of motion again. "May I guide you to the world beyond this one. Say hi to Cardinal for me..."

Three had exploded into shards, and Nari felt herself grinning as she turned towards Onóra, about to share the excitement she felt at their further success. The grin, however, disappeared immediately as the one wolf she had missed slammed into her side, throwing her to the ground and tearing into her side.

For a split second, Nari found herself panicking, trying to figure out what had happened and how she had let her guard down so easily. Then, the numbing-pain was gone, and the blonde was standing above her, the longsword slashing at the air, driving the wolf back and away from the two of them. 

"Come on! It's not done yet! We need to finish this shithead off before it can regroup with its friends!" Onóra's voice called out from above her, driving Nari to her feet in a matter of breaths. A quick intake of the field - no obvious signs of other threats, nothing else coming towards them - and then Nari was moving, her scythe out to her side in preparation for a single, final strike.

Nari breathed a sigh of relief as the final wolf exploded, leaving herself and Onóra alone, aside from the few creatures still roaming around the garden in the distance. Turning to make sure that her companion was okay, Nari waved a hand towards the open area where the wolves had once stood. Her own health bar had taken a small dip, but nothing that Nari wasn't used to nowadays. "Well, I guess they're not much of a threat to us, now, are they?"

Her smile died as she saw the angry look waiting for her on Onóra's face. A part of her felt like she already knew the reason for the anger, but Nari wasn't entirely sure about the accuracy of her guess. Taking a risk, she decided to prompt the blonde about what the issue was, and try and figure out what she had done wrong. "What? You look like I trampled all over your side of the bed, or something..."

"I can see your health bar." The words were covered in fury, and for a second, Nari wondered what was so important about that. She'd taken some damage, sure, but her health had barely dipped - and already it was beginning to return to it's normal full state. She'd opened her mouth to say as much, when the blonde cut her off. "No excuses. No false promises. No words about how it will be okay. You cannot take stupid risks in this game. If you do, it'll be the end of you - and then everyone you care about, will be left behind. Left behind to consider their loss, to sit and mourn you, before realising they don't have that luxury, and that they need to push forwards, keep going about their day as if nothing had happened. As if everything was still alright, and the entire point of all this was..."

Nari shifted her weight, listening as Onóra continued yelling at her, the words filled with an anger that Nari quickly realised wasn't directed at her - not entirely, at least. The anger came, as Nari knew from experience, previous experiences. Experiences that were engrained into the heart, burned into the mind in ways that would never likely leave - only dull and lessen over time. Experiences that would leave stains upon those left behind, no matter what they did - no matter what they tried to forget. Something that Nari should've been more aware of...

Fifteen minutes later, Onóra had calmed down ever so slightly, allowing Nari to finally get a word in between her breaths. "You're right, and I'm sorry. I should be careful. But...this didn't occur because I wasn't careful. And sometimes, sometimes mistakes are going to happen...sometimes you get into situations where...where you just can't escape. I know that. I've seen it, far more often than I care to admit to...but it doesn't mean we stop. It doesn't mean we give up..."

Nari shifted her weight. It was a conversation she remembered being on the other side for, once upon a time. The memories somehow seemed both fresh in her mind, and aged by years. A feeling that left her somehow less than comfortable, knowing how she'd moved on from it all. "Honour the memories of those who have been lost...not by mourning in solitude forever, but by taking steps to continue their path. Like you're doing now..."

Nari fell quiet as she waited to see Onóra's response. The woman seemed on the verge of tears, as if everything was coming crashing down all at once. Nari lifted her hand, reaching outwards hesitantly as she considered trying to pull the blonde closer, unsure of what to do in the current situation. Before she could make a decision, however, Onóra had collected herself, shaking her head and looking at Nari with a stoic expression. The words caught Nari by surprise, and for a moment she remained motionless, trying to process what was being said. She still considered Onóra her friend, even if they had been away from each other for a while. The admission, however, had been unexpected, and as her brain tried to process everything she ended up saying that first thing that came to mind. "No unnecessary risks. Got it...so, how about lunch then?"
