HISTORY

Spoiler

Hami Dlamini was a prodigy.

From a young age, he excelled in all walks of life. He was well liked, a good student, and a good son. His parents were middle-class, and the three of them lived comfortably in South Africa, where he was born.

His height made him an asset. By age 14, Hami had been recruited by his high school's volleyball coach. He joined, immediately given a starting position as a middle blocker, and contributed to his team's nationals victory.

The time for university came, and after four years he and his team remained undefeated on the court. He took advantage of this when applying for scholarships, and in the end avoided paying a dime for his education at the University of Cape Town. He excelled academically, while continuing to compete as an athlete until he graduated at 22.

His post-graduate canvas was blank. He didn't know what direction to go in. Volleyball teams scouted him, hoping to use his height to their advantage, but by then he had burnt himself out and needed a break. Without any other interests or passions, he enrolled in officer training at the South African National Defense Force.

His completion of officer training landed him an immediate rank of Second Lieutenant. 2 years later, he was promoted to Lieutenant. At 25, he led a platoon in the Battle of Lagos. All but three perished during the battle, and Hami lost a leg.

Due to his injuries, he was forced to leave SANDF. He returned home, where his parents cared for him while he recovered. His career was over.

Hami had never been a gamer, but always had an interest in MMOs. He was 30 when Sword Art Online was released, and purchased a copy for himself.

Leader | Hami's leadership qualities shone through both on the volleyball court and in the military, where he inspired his team with his dedication and strategic thinking. His ability to remain calm under pressure and make decisive choices earned him the respect of his peers and subordinates alike. Even after his injury, Hami continued to demonstrate leadership by mentoring younger players and offering guidance to fellow veterans.

Post-Traumatic Stress | The Battle of Lagos left deep scars on Hami, both physically and mentally, and he struggles with flashbacks and anxiety as a result. His sleep is often interrupted by nightmares, and he found it difficult to discuss his experiences with anyone, even those closest to him. Despite seeking help, the lingering effects of post-traumatic stress remained a constant challenge in his daily life.

Disciplined | Hami's background in the military instilled in him a strong sense of discipline, which he applied to all aspects of his life. He maintained rigorous training and study schedules, ensuring that he was always prepared and at his best. This discipline helped him overcome obstacles and achieve his goals, even in the face of adversity.

Man of Few Words | Hami is known for his quiet demeanor, preferring to let his actions speak louder than his words. When he does speak, he keeps it short and to the point. His reserved nature sometimes makes it difficult for others to understand his thoughts and feelings.

Humble | Despite his numerous achievements in athletics and the military, Hami remains humble and grounded, never seeking the spotlight. He has always credited his successes to the support of his team and mentors, downplaying his own contributions. Hami's humility earned him genuine admiration and respect, as he consistently put others before himself.

Guilty | Hami carried a heavy burden of guilt from the Battle of Lagos, constantly questioning his decisions and actions during the conflict. The loss of his comrades weighed heavily on him, and he often felt he had failed them as a leader. His guilt played a part in his isolation and quiet personality.
