There was something about the combination of its harsh environment, ruthless economics and absolutely cutthroat politics that Takeshi had always found appealing. Staring as he was now, down the bowels of a massive and seemingly endless sewer network, Freyd couldn't help feel like the parallels to Aincrad were strong. "Mouth of the sandworm, eh Persi?" The aloof little shadow mongoose stood off to the side on the least filthy spot she'd been able to find and had been preening endlessly since their arrival. "You realize that you're eating anything you lick off, right?" Blue eyes bulged and paused, a paw gradually returning to ground in the slowest and least admission of agreement possible. "Friggin Tleilaxu," said the Whisper to himself, knowing full well he was the closest kin to a face dancer this world might actually know. A crouch and quick message sent, Freyd simply waited, gnawing on a chunk of stale something from his Gungnir. It didn't taste great, but didn't have to. And, down here, it was the sort of thing to help tip the precarious balance between life and death. This particular mission was only a part of his whole intention, but a crucial one. A thin film of dust whisks through the air, as Raidou shifts open his HUD and taps a blinking icon like answering a phone call. Freyd had already scouted ahead, and was in position. This meant that the road was already cleared, and now was time for his respective part. "Although it may be pointless." Raidou decreed as he plucked a couple of bottles from the guild store room and they clack together in glass on glass. This place hadn't seen that much traffic as of late, it seems the urge had dwindled. The smells in this place were pungent and on the brink of turning to overwhelming. Adorned in her black transitioned armor, her skill doing its best to conceal her from her surroundings. She'd keep to the darkness and out of sight, this was hardly the place for loose lips. Once the group was all here, they would begin. For Kasumi that meant remaining on the peripheral, beyond vision and spreading that same perception dulling scent that did its part to allow her to slip past unnoticed. Seems all that trafficking back and forth between boats had made her more fleet of foot. Sporting the regalia of a Galtean official, still working away at keeping the refugees free of Ladonian chains. And the treasure, who could forget the mountains of random trinkets that the Grand Imperator's lackies kept so kindly donating to her cause. Morgan and the others were doing their best to keep the walls, and she still owed a pretty penny to Simmone. So when the guild called, wanted a hand she'd oblige. For one, they'd saved her booty shaped bacon on a couple of counts and for two, they had some of the best paychecks. Win meet win Slinking into an open drainage pipe, and pushing through her own home turf. "Sorry I'm late, you would not believe the things that a girl's gotta do to get a weasel out of a wall." She exhumed with her signature and trademarked smile, will sue. "Now we doing the slime thing again huh, I brought bottles. Wonder if Freya will cook with it if I bring some home. Wait, you don't think it will be alive in the bottle?" Mind moving a mile a minute as she sizes up the jar. "Nah." she makes a fart with her face, snickering as she presents three of them. Last time they were in this smelly butthole of a undercity, people were firing lasers and what not. I mean it was basically the worlds most dirty rave. Shiina wasn't about to miss this shindig, and frankly coral was getting pretty boring. What was less expected was the sudden and titanic impact that had caused it all. Having been to these depth before, Freyd knew what sorts of mobs to expect and had literally been keeping an eye on them from the shadows. The moment enough of them aligned - BAM! A streak of black and bullet-time detonation of green juju-goo in every direction. Two of the creatures disintegrated completely, their innards now on display across the entire surface of the broad junction tunnel where they had, moments before, simply been milling around and enjoying whatever it is mindless slime horrors do for fun. A third survived only because Samael's Pride's hungry oblivion portals ate a Freyd-shaped whole right through the centre. The fourth was fortunate enough to be clinging to a low ceiling, and last in line. It was merely plowed through as the Whisper skidded on the far side of the chamber. Only the final mob had offered enough resistance to deposit any residual goo upon his gloves, which promptly devoured it all before restoring its barely perceptible seals. "Door's open!" A heavy looking cleaver emboldened in orange flame that twists into a bluish hue, cold clocking on hapless slime and filling the room with fire. "I got caught up, and you started this party without me. Damn it Freyd!" Celeste barks beneath her coverage, the heat an intense washing in the area. All caught in its blast shrink low and join the muck on the floor, aiming to avoid as much of the smoldering wave as possible. The routine pop of another destroyed as bits of slime boil into a strange blackened puff of sticky smoke. Vaporized. After the quick flash fire, the girl continues onward and jumps into the next nearby tube. Her opposition finding the problem beginning to fade rise from their compressed shapes, looking eagerly for their aggressor in gelatinous lime green forms. But once the flames vanish, so did the woman using guerilla style warfare she'd trained herself in these smash and grab tactics. The enemies were jarred, knowing nowhere in particular on what to focus on. A prime situation to cut in and keep the confusion rolling. This tactical blindsiding and its benefits where hard to argue. As soon as the opening was made, a number of amorphous blobs taking solid shapes sees a scattering of small purple petals. An intense crack as Kasumi strikes with a sharpened point of her fingers, sees a spray of tiny droplets as her hand digs in up to her elbow. Although its shape was so fluid, it would appear the girl had struck something vital. A rigid and troubled attempt to take a swipe at the mere image of its aggressor sees a flash and a sprinkling of those same signature petals. From above, a screaming violet heel dumps itself into the second. It unfurls like parting water, as her foot plays the part of a cleaver. It jiggles uncomfortably trying to regain its composure, as the girl simply vanishes from sight without a word. Raidou 1 Posted July 22, 2023 #10 Share Posted July 22, 2023 Drawing out Auric Sunlight sees a flash followed by a faint glow of the blades metal, like ambient sunshine in this darkened corridor. As Firm Anima continued to tear these creatures limb from limb, Raidou reaches into his pocket and grabs some slip of paper. He rips it down the length of his blade and it catches aflame. Kneeling low as powerful attacks light up the room, playing off the glasses on his nose. Right as Kasumi disappears from view, like a rocket Raidou tears into the fray planting his steel to the hilt in the creatures form. It squirms. The nomad rips with a sudden and violent tug upward. Bits of the thing follow the edge, finding the ceiling in a hot broiling mass as the flames on his weapon begin to die down. What follows is it raining down in syrupy like clumps struggling to rejoin its bottom half. Sizing up his opponent, with a sword arm held strong he held his ground. "Let's light this firecracker~" The girl exhumes as a huge ring of red echoes out from beneath her feet. Her hands stretch out, hair begins to drift as if its ignoring gravity. "Battlefield Overture: Dramatic Encore!" she shrieks with an almost playful and yet grim smile. That large sigil lights up in a valiant and vibrant light, and her arms begin to twist as she seems to be dragging some heavy yet invisible bar. The weapons in the rest of her parties hands charge with their own respective sword art hues, as if lapping up the power that the little valkyre was emanating. A cacophony set of whispers begin to chant. Removing a small crystal and tapping it one, the thing vibrates then shatters and the song within begins to play from the room itself. Griswold 0 Posted July 22, 2023 #12 Share Posted July 22, 2023 Griswold lifts a heavy wall of a shield, his weapon charging up with energies as members of the group made a right mess of the chamber. Through a dark blue plated helmet, he scans the walls. Shoring up his embrace and clutching heavy the blacksmith's mallet in his off hand. These things were already long dead, weakly meandering before collapsing. "More to come." Griswold forebodes with a deep and gruff voice. Clacking his hammer to his shield, making the thing light ablaze in fire of its own. Others begin to slither out of the walls, his noise drawing them in. They'd have to clear the area if they wished a simpler fight with 'the big one.' Pouring out and up from various drains, sludge coalesced into more solid shapes. As they'd wrap in, the other players seemed to shore up in tandem. This was a slaughter, and not for them. An earthshattering crash follows with it, as the tabi on her feet were illuminated in violet energy. It recoils then attempts a rebuttal, finding its joints seize and its movement sluggish. The bladed arm it produces swipes harmlessly, finding her shape that disperses into a cloud of lilac colored petals. The next rings out as an open palm shreds through the torso of the next. It reels and splatters, sending a spray of green gunk across what little stone left bare. It worms trying to reciprocate, as the girl spreads her legs and dives low narrowly avoiding a spear toward her face. Springing up and clutching the source, she twists around it and bounces off of its face with both feet. Twirling as if this was a dance, her right knee coming above her waist before it fires off the blade of her foot. It catches hard and sends the third crumbling into a pile of syrup. Landing with a slide, she spins and takes two steps and leaps. A shower of those same petals as she disappears, finding her way with a jarring and abrupt pirouette that digs the flat of her foot into the awaiting maw of the last. What follows is a myriad of small hits as she continues to bite at their heels like a dog to cattle. Samael's Pride surged and loosed it bonds even as Freyd's teeth clenched to resist its effort to devour him along with everything else. Tugging at every shadow in the room, Freyd unleashed them as a giant tsunami of death - an army of Montjoys to make Agincourt proud, and just as decimating for the losing side. With every touch of his left hand - the Crashing Wave - crippled slimes faltered and fell, only to be devoured by the Whisper's shadowy tide. Just as it crested, another brilliant flash of white filled the room, with the contrasted shell of an absolutely disintegrated slime left imprinted on the ceiling. Only a handful remained. There wasn't even any dust left to settle as the rest of Firm Anima rushed behind the two scions of O&I blazed a trail for their companions. Celeste 1 Posted July 22, 2023 #15 Share Posted July 22, 2023 Upkeep: +4 EN A wave of heat blows out of a nearby tube, as if a response to the call. Her eyes still adjusting given the sheer echo of light had caused her vision to blur. "Good God. Save some for me would ya!" The woman outcries with an bombastic smile contrary to the words. Celeste swings this massive wrecking ball consumed by the oddest mixture of flames. One large cleave with a nearly immeasurable amount of force behind it. Instead of cutting, it was something much more akin to being struck with a bus. The slimes explode in tiny droplets and columns of steam, as their size continued to dwindle down to little. It would appear that fire was their greatest weakness, and the chick that wielded the stuff was kind of in her element as well. Even still, despite all of her efforts Firm Anima was still something to reckon with. It was a far cry from poking and capsizing Ladonian crews. These things put up a lot more of a fight. Each and every one making the robe on his back sway forward as they lunge. A hand moves to his brow, pressing an index into the bridge of his glasses causing them to shine and reflect the light from the following cataclysm. His hair flails about angerly, the crimson red robe fluttering like a flag in a storm. The red wanderer exhales softly, turning Auric Sunlight in his grasp as Celeste follows the assault. Waves of heat fill the arena, smoke and smog becoming almost to thick to see. Overwhelm and control. That gleaming sword finds a space above his head, and despite being beneath ground a single yet audible thunder. "Good one Freyd!" Shiina offers with a thumbs up before extending her finger like a gun. Shutting one eye and changing targets, she sets her sights on Celeste. The color in that symbol changes to a light blue, as the songstress sticks out her tongue. "Holder steady...BANG." The girl chirps out and the ring flares. A soft light begins to claim Celeste's shape as her stamina bar would shift from its normal green to a vibrant blue hue. Now the pair were linked and she'd start to be a lot more mobile. Unwrapping her hands, and extending them out at her sides just above her waist. The surge becomes a lot less of a pulse then a hum, as she shatters yet another crystal. Griswold spins the head of his hammer, stopping into range with heavy footfalls. A singular heave with a downward strike connects, dealing considerable damage to all within range. The one he struck at first dies without an issue, the second however detonates. It sprays steaming hot gel in all directions catching the girls and himself in the blast. As he begins to tap with haste as it began to eat at his armor, what little remained started to gather beneath his feet. This had a way of proving the danger they were all in. After all this was one of the hardest quests available, and despite their levels and experience it still had a few surprises. "Kill it." Griswold barks to the rest of the group, doing his damned to stop the sounds of it chewing up the plates on him. Auric Sunlight passes through quick and clean, causing the last bit of slime to turn to a shower of fractals. "You all alright?" he asks looking them over to a string of nods. "Keep on your toes, this is hardly over." The red wanderer forebodes, knowing full well that what lingered had surely heard the ruckus. With the adds handled, and the damage minor, they were all still in ripe condition. Although it was a bit more turbulent then his liking. His grip reverses back to neutral, his hands righting the weapon in a horizontal point. The hilt near his right ear. What came was silence, as the group stilled themselves as suspense began to build. In the nearby pipes, the sounds of sloshing played off. It would appear as if it was traveling, akin to a river or rapids. The Slime King had arrived, and with convenient timing for Freyd to leap back out of the shadows and fall flat on his face. "OWW. Fuck." By some strange quirk of circumstance, his foot had snagged on a stray segment of pipe and sent him sprawling, but also triggered a chain reaction of rattling pipes and bursting bolts. Rivets started shooting randomly throughout the chamber, several piercing the newly arrived boss until... PING. PING. PING. SsssssqueeeeeeeeaaaaalllllllllLLLLLLLL. CLUNK. Everything down here was rotten, including the walls and anything fastened to them. Though not at all his intention, a smeared and frustrated Freyd could only smile as a large section of cast iron collapsed from above and smashed down directly onto their opponent.
