Good, he was cracking jokes, at least that would lighten the mood just a tad. "IT'S HARD TO HIT AN 8 FOOT TALL EYEBALL CHESTED CENTAUR LIZARD OK?"

Katoka watched as their opponent turned and thrashed about the room, smashing into walls and gouging out chunks of stone with it's hands and tossing them about in a random attempt to hit something or anything. "What the hell is this thing doing?" she asked, as she slid on a patch of moss that she haphazardly stepped on. If she hadn't already been charging her next sword art she might have been able to recover in time, but unfortunately the system completed her action for her and pulled her just off to the side of the monster, causing her to crack the stone wall instead.

"Shit, I can't get my damn footing in here!" she called tugging her sword free and rolling backwards as another hunk of stone landed right here she had just been. "Phew, that was--"

She was hit square in the stomach by it's whiplike tail, her words knocked out of her just like her breath. Time seemed to slow down and she saw Freyd had also been hit just the same. The two of them smashing into the ground and tumble end over end until they hit the opposite wall with a crash.

Sent flying through a nearby wall, desiccated mortar stone sprayed like shrapnel across the battlefield as Freyd passed right through them to impact the wall on the far side.  Peeling himself out of a Whisper-shaped crater, there was a near feral glint of glee in his eyes and he came dashing back through the very same hole just made by his sailing frame.  The keening of his weapon's hunger matched the missile impact as he smashed through the mutant monstrosity's side, leaving a trail of disintegrated mob bits in his wake.

"Maybe it's not that hard after all," he joked, skidding to a stop on the far side and then instantly scrambling to resume this darting dance around the tenacious creature.  It roared from all three mouths, one very inopportunably placed when genitalia should have been.  "Why is anime always so damned weird about that stuff?  And... eww.  Cardinal - you have issues."

"Keep pressing it with shatters and we'll cut it down soon enough." Freyd tagged Katoka on the shoulder so that she could find an opening as he turned the beast away from her.  He knew that she knew what to do.  All they needed was a little bit of luck, for a change.

Her pride had taken a hit just as hard as she had physically, but she wasn't ready to back down just yet. Adjusting her grip in her weapon Kat nodded to Freyd as he patted her shoulder, she needed to find an opening and carve a piece of this thing herself. She set off in a full sprint, dropping down into a slide as it swung it's tail at her briefly. Her sword let off it's usual blue light, but she realized too late that she had charged the wrong sword art. She was so used to her single target attacks that it was reflex at this point. Had she even used shatter before?

Her hesitance translated into her movement as she once again hit a patch of moss sending her skidding past her target. Guudgog once again focused his attention on poor Freyd, this time slamming his fist into his side while somehow managing to simultaneously kick Katoka at the same time. The Samurai saw stars as she skipped across the floor, sliding to a stop in some rubble from the boss's earlier rampage. Confusion covered her face, how had it managed to see her behind it?

Several open eyes on the beasts leg blinked at her before shutting. "Oh god, that's gross." she coughed, traces of digital blood trailing from her mouth. Looking up she saw that her health bar was nearly at half, however their opponent was finally creeping below that. "Alright, next one for sure this time." her hands tightened on her sword once more, "Definitely have to hit next time."

A nasty slam into his ribs sent Freyd reeling backwards.  Thanking the pain suppression apps, he was equally grateful that he'd kept up on those ab crunches and managed to see it the blow coming.  Things would be going that much worse if this thing started stunning or winding them with its attacks.  Jaw clenched, Freyd swept back into offense.  Grabbing the creature's arm as it tried to sucker punch him, a twist, a wail and a horrible snapping sound paired with a shower of shimmering shards.  Coming out of his spin, the Whisper now wielded a massive, severed arm that was in the process of disintegrating itself, but not before he could swing it like a club and strike the boss between the eyes with its own mangled fist.

"Take that, you filthy piece of flesh rubbish!  No means no!"  A series of blows in keeping with a perfectly executed kata further splintered the mob's flesh, splintering its surface with spiderweb cracks in glaring orange.  Showers of wayward shards and motes flew in every direction as Freyd beat the creature back into a corner, tossing the last of a crumbling hand its way.  His own form had taken somewhat of a beating, a few angry-looking bruises and abrasions already starting to heal.  Going toe to toe with Ugzeke, solo, had taught him a few things about toughness.

"This lightweight is going down, Kat.  I tagged a few weak points for you.  Rough him up a bit so we can finish the job."  Signs of doubt and hesitation were long gone from his face.  Freyd was in the thick of it now, and looking to deliver some pain.  The mob's time was running out.

"Right, let's do it the right way this time."

Katoka shifted her stance, bringing her katana into a form she hadn't really practiced much. Holding her weapon with one hand and placing the other on the pommel to reinforce the strike she was about to attempt. Her blade began to give of an orange light, her body remaining still as she focused on her opponent. As she watched Freyd strike the boss once again she saw it stumble, just for a moment, and that was when she made her move.

She burst forward, driving her katana deep into Guudgog's ribs. Her attack had finally hit it's mark, a gust of wind bursting past them as her movement caught up to her. The monster let out a wheeze as it's perversely placed mouths coughed up black ooze. Kat leapt back, removing her sword and keeping her guard up, but it seemed like the beast was frozen in place. It seemed to sporadically twitch, small bolts of electricity arching from various appendages.

"Got 'em, think you can finish him off?" she wiped the blood from her mouth, flashing Freyd a sly grin.

Sliding past Katoka's feet, driving a spray of mucky grey water before him, Freyd used the same environment that had given them such trouble against their foe.  Momentarily blind as it closed its many eyes against the splash, it recovered just in time to see the man barreling into its torso and unleashing a series of crippling strikes.  Each blow jarred the massive mob's form, forcing it backwards step by step until its back was to the wall.  Tensing every muscle such that the veins and tendons on his throat surged to the surface, Freyd thrust his fist hard into its midsection, folding the mob in half around it.  It popped like an overstressed balloon before the two halves met, Freyd stumbling forward another step as resistance suddenly disappeared against his momentum.

Leaning against the broken stone wall, the dungeon boss' motes still dribbling down around his feet, his cowl perked up the moment he heard the sound.  Like glass straining under the pressure of a flood, then a plink, followed by a crack.  White light spiderwebbed outward from the point where the mob has struck the wall.

"The dungeon is collapsing!  Go, Kat," he screamed, urgency bleeding through beyond a shadow of a doubt.  "If we don't clear this area before it caves in, we'll end up just like the Madrigal!  GO!"

What followed was a blur, movement and shifting terrain conspiring to capture them within the confines of a dying temporary world.  Slumping down at Katoka's side, equally winded, relief at having escaped was clear on both their hyperventilating faces.

"It's a damned good thing you're fast, little lightning.  And thanks for having my back in there."

Leaning forward with arms braced on their respective knees, Freyd hung his head to rest and recover, if only for an instant.  As he lifted it once more, the familiar wry grin was already spreading.

"Come on.  We haven't even faced the quest bosses for this chain yet.  Let's get to it."
